Just pure, concentrated evil.

I buried this for nearly 30 years.

Be prepared to be afraid.

Michael's grandmother's house, story number 25.

We spent a lot of time at my grandparents' house.

We were the only grandkids in the family.

My dad was an only child, so we were very spoiled.

My earliest real solid recollections of experiences

would be back when I was around seventh grade.

I would hear a lot of things upstairs.

I've heard doors close, footsteps in the hallway,

and my back would be to the room.

And I would feel like someone was standing right behind me.

I'd hear footsteps.

I'd spin around and no one's there.

And I heard the loudest banging crash

sound on the second floor.

Something so loud, I had to just get out of there.

I ran out of the house because I thought

I was waiting outside until my grandfather got home from work.

Told him what happened.

My grandfather used to just make a joke of it.

You know, that, oh, if there's a ghost in here,

they owe me some rent.

I don't think it was something they like to talk about.

Went upstairs and there was nothing disturbed.

That was probably the scariest encounter I had

as a young kid in that house.

Michael wasn't the only one to experience

weird things in the house.

Hang on.

Things would happen.

Especially in the bathroom.

Can you give me a minute?

My mom would hear someone right outside the door.

Hang on.

And there'd be nobody.

People would be using the bathroom

when they'd actually start hearing

the shower curtain rustling.

Like there's somebody standing behind it.

And so, you know, they usually always

reluctantly peek behind it.

And there's nobody there.

And so, you know, that was probably

a weird experience.

The strange activity didn't stop at just unexplained noises.

Manifestations roamed the house.

So they're all in the kitchen, and they see this man walk in.

My mother described him as having

And they see this man go up the stairs.

When they checked it out, no one had come in.

There was no one upstairs.

The family tried to get on with normal life.

Michael grew up, left, and had a family of his own.

But 20 years later, he was forced to move back to the house.

Back in 2003, I had to move back in after my twin sons were born.

My wife at the time and I just had differences we couldn't reconcile.

It just seemed like moving back in, those experiences, suddenly they just sort of picked

up again.

I was sleeping in the back bedroom and I had gotten up to use the bathroom.

And as I turned around to come out of the bathroom, there's a dark figure standing in

the bay window.

I didn't see a lot of detail.

I couldn't see a face.

It was like someone standing in the shadows.

And turned around quickly and went into the bedroom where I was sleeping.

And then I like rushed after it and I get in the bedroom and there's no one there.

Then I had to lay in bed knowing that whatever it was disappeared in the room.

And I don't think I really slept much after that, that night.

Shaken, Michael sheltered his twins from his disturbing encounter.

I didn't want them to see a concern.

I didn't want to feed it.

I also didn't want to make things worse.

I just wanted to drop it.

All right, bedtime boys.

I was putting them to bed one night.

And they were usually very good about going to bed.

But I shut the door.

And as they start to walk away, they start screaming.

And I mean like both of them screaming simultaneously.

It's like an ax murder going on in the bedroom.

And they're both hysterical.

Dad, dad, make the man leave.

There's a man in here, make him leave.

I'm like, there's no man in here.

It's time for bed.

Come on.

No, dad, there's a man.

And they're both pointing out to the corner of the room.

He's over there in the corner.

And then I saw someone in the shadows.

He's kneeling down and he's praying.

That's the guy I've seen in the house.

Even telling it now, I get this like chill

through my body like fear.

The ghostly figure vanished.

But the twins were badly shaken.

There were times they would tell me that there

was a creature in their room.

Whatever was in there comes out of the closet.

He crawls around on his belly because he

has no arms and legs.

He's a very terrifying experience.

It was too much for me at that point in my life to handle.

Michael enlisted the help of a local paranormal investigator.

When I go into an investigation, I

have to go in a little skeptical and with a scientific approach.

And then I try to use all my resources,

interviewing the witnesses, do a historical,

do a scientific investigation.

And the final piece, spending the night in the location

to see if I can personally experience

the haunted activity.

So many people over the years had experiences.

Everybody was curious.

OK, cool, finally.

Like, we're going to find out.

Is grandma's house really haunted?

People always say, what's the best way

to conduct a ghost hunt?

And I always tell them, sit still and be quiet

and just see what happens.

We were getting anomalies on the infrared video,

temperature shifts, and a band of high EMF.

And I was like, oh, my god.

I'm going to go to the hospital.

High EMF that seemed to run the length of the house.

EMF stands for electromagnetic frequency.

And it can sometimes indicate the presence of a spirit,

because spirits are made of energy.

Wow.

We couldn't ascribe this to any natural phenomenon.

Haven't found that anywhere else.

We were just setting up the equipment on the top floor.

And we were in there trying to make contact.

You know, is there someone here who wants

to give a sign of their presence?

And we heard a very sharp knocking sound.

Oh, was that you?

No.

And I turned around.

I said, that seemed to have come from the wall.

So I put my hands up against this thick plaster wall.

And I said, you know, if something's here,

can you make that knocking sound again?

And it made the sound right under my hands.

Not only did I hear it, I could feel

the reverberation in my hands.

And I jumped back.

I said, OK.

I got an idea.

I knocked twice.

And wouldn't you know, immediately,

it knocked twice back.

And I think I jumped back even farther.

We both stood there with our jaws hanging open.

And this was a direct response.

This wasn't a random rumbling of the house.

Oh, it's like he's talking to us.

And we heard somebody walking down the hallway.

And I remember Linda telling me, there's

someone coming up behind me.

And you could hear the footsteps progressing.

I started to get very upset.

I started to cry.

I started to get very upset.

I started to feel this overwhelming sense of grief

to the point where I actually was beginning to cry.

That was such an overwhelming, life-altering sadness.

I could only describe the feeling as the pain

that a parent has to feel when they lose a child.

After being plagued by apparitions

in his grandmother's former home,

Michael Warden called in paranormal expert Linda

Zimmerman.

But the investigation made the activity get even worse.

I felt something in there that was so sad.

Something so terribly grief-ridden

that I had to just get out of there.

The incident spurred Michael to look

into the history of the house.

After this experience that Linda and I had,

it really prompted my grandmother

to dig out the deed to find out who the previous owners

of the house were.

We had found another previous owner from the 1800s

was this gentleman named Obadiah Howell.

He was an attorney.

He was a surrogate's judge, just a very upstanding,

very well-regarded member of the community.

And we came across his obituary.

I get to a part where it mentions his only son,

Bradford Howell, had died at an early age,

and the father never fully recovered from the blow.

The picture of the judge,

he's got the old-fashioned mustache.

That's the guy I've seen in the house.

That's him right there.

Desperate to find peace for the family,

Linda brought in a psychic to contact

the deceased judge haunting the household.

Judge Obadiah, please come to us.

Judge Obadiah, Obadiah, Obadiah, Obadiah.

The psychic had a heart-to-heart talk with the judge.

I don't think the judge ever intended to scare anyone,

let alone the children.

He's trying to recapture the love of his son.

The psychic discovered Judge Obadiah

wasn't the only one haunting the house.

The power of light and love lands this house.

Her overall impression of the house

was that it was some sort of focal point

or portal for spirits.

The portal is an energy gateway

between our world and the spirit world,

and spirits can use those to come and go as they please.

She just found so many energies.

She was overcome.

asking them to move on.

I think what makes his grandmother's house unique

is the unprecedented variety of spirits

and the length of activity.

We're talking about four generations of his family now

have experienced these things.

Because in life, you pretty much know what you're dealing with.

You can see it, you can perceive it, you can deal with it.

But with the paranormal, you can't always see it.

You can't always just deal with it,

because you don't know.

And I think that's what makes it scarier.

I believe the answer is, we definitely can stick around.

Whatever it is that we're supposed to go to,

there's a part of us that's supposed to continue on somewhere.

After the cleansing, Michael finally found peace.

The ghost of Judge Obadiah and all the other spirits in the house

were never heard from again.

The living may experience something so traumatic,

they return after death to relive that torment for eternity.

Sometimes they don't mean to scare or harm the living,

but occasionally that energy can have deadly consequences.

Story number seven, Haunted Horses, featuring Michelle.

We came here in 2001.

The property is over 150 years old.

We do a combination of rescue horses,

we breed some horses, and we board some horses.

We have 93 acres,

60 acres of open land, and the rest is bush.

Michelle and Jim had fallen in love with the property,

but after moving in, they discovered the house had a troubled history.

Well, I know the first owners, their barn burned down for no reason at all.

The next couple that moved in here, the marriage broke up

and they ended up splitting up.

They moved out.

This house has always been a little creepy.

You always feel like there's something there.

You just felt this place was cursed,

that there was something wrong, that nothing could ever go right here.

Then things like electric toothbrushes would go off.

We just took the batteries out of it and thought it was a short.

Strange occurrences spread throughout the house.

My daughter, as she was walking past the bedroom,

noticed there was something on the floor.

She looked at the floor and saw a black spot.

She thought it was a black spot.

She thought it was just a friend that had shown up that she didn't know about.

And when her boyfriend came down for coffee,

she asked who stayed over.

Out in the barn, things were even more foreboding.

You know static electricity?

And the hairs on your arms stand up.

And you have that sort of like a tingle that goes through you.

That's what it would feel like when you were in the barn.

You know, it's like a little bit of a horror movie.

A horror movie.

Even the horses seemed spooked.

We had a lot of trouble with the horses.

They were getting sick.

We had a whole year where a string of horses were dying of colic.

So we thought maybe there was some poison on the property or something like that.

Even the vet, I asked him like, what is going on?

And our vet is very religious and he's like,

you better get God to start praying because I think your place is cursed.

And even my daughter, she's like, the place is cursed.

I'm like, what?

Just sell it. Just move.

You just had that feeling all the time that nothing you tried was going to go right here.

Reeling from their losses and desperate for answers,

they found only more questions.

I called Jim over to say, you know, there's somebody in the field.

We all stood there watching.

It looked like a lantern. Like, what? A single light.

And then all of a sudden the light went out.

Of course, the kids were starting to get nervous.

We were all kind of nervous at that point.

We walked over with flashlights.

And then all of a sudden somebody just walking out of the corner of your eye.

I turn around, there'd be nobody there.

It's extremely scary because you don't know if there is somebody

that's trespassing or if it's something else.

When it comes to anything that you can't explain,

that fear is much more frightening than any of the other fears that you'd have to face.

The strange lantern remained a mystery

until Michelle and Jim happened to speak to a neighboring farmer.

And so he was telling us about the lantern.

A hundred years ago, on the edge of our property,

at the very back of the hundred acres, there was a house.

What happened was the family that originally owned the place

needed something at the store.

Their store was quite far, so they would have had to ride a horse there.

They would have had to walk in the woods.

And they were looking for a place to live.

And because it would take so long to do that walk,

she took a lantern with her.

And as she was walking home, she noticed the house was on fire.

By the time she got there, her family had died in the fire.

After moving into an old farm,

Michelle and Jim had been seeing strange lantern lights around their property.

A local farmer had a theory about what it was.

The ghost of a woman who watched her family burn to their deaths in a house fire.

She went a little crazy.

She was a little bit scared.

She was a little bit scared.

She was found dead within a month,

which would have been somewhere on our property.

She's the lady with the lantern.

She keeps walking back and forth from where her house would have been to the store.

So that's why you see the lantern.

Traumatic energies can basically be trapped in time, like an imprint.

If her family died in a fire,

she may very well believe that they are still there.

She might remain behind with them or in hopes of finding them.

Traumatic events can definitely bind a spirit to an area.

With the realization that their land may be haunted by the Lantern Lady,

they were terrified of what they could lose next.

Chance was an amazing horse.

He was about three years old when we got him.

Absolutely wonderful horse.

The kids loved him.

He was a sweetheart.

It was always calm, but when it was in the certain spots in the barn,

well, it was freaking out. It didn't like it there.

And something freaked the horse out.

Be patient and kick in the walls.

It just wanted out. There's something really bothering it there.

It sensed something.

When a horse sees or hears something they don't like,

you can see fear in their eyes.

You knew it didn't want to be there.

I believe all animals are very receptive to paranormal activity.

They're very sensitive to it.

We had a storm come in.

It was a big windstorm with lots of rain and lightning.

Terrified, the horse broke out of the stable into an adjoining field.

It's almost like he was chased. He was scared.

But it ran through the fence.

Though injured, the horse continued to bolt.

The horse, I finally found the horse laying a ways down.

He ended up where the tree snapped in half

and it actually impaled him.

He actually ran into it.

It was pretty horrific.

That was a catalyst.

That was like the final straw.

I just wanted to sell the property.

I really wanted to get away from here.

I just couldn't take it anymore.

It was after that that the group, the mediums and the psychics came here.

Michelle and Jim enlisted the help of paranormal investigator KT Mavin and her team.

We did our initial history of the place

and we'd also heard stories of the lantern lights.

We used our cameras.

We used K2 meters, NML meter, which register the electromagnetic fields.

We had a lot of our EMF hits when we were down the laneway

trying to make contact with the lantern lady.

When Paul and I were trying to communicate with the lantern lady,

we had a lantern in front of us.

And at one point we were able to see individual blaze of grass and weeds move

when nothing else around them moved.

I had no explained reason for that.

At one point the medium began to channel who we think is Jane, the lantern lady.

We tried to convince her that it was time to cross over.

I just became completely overwhelmed and I broke down crying for no reason.

After the ghost of a grief stricken woman caused the grisly death of a horse,

paranormal investigator KT Mavin and her team have been trying to cross her over,

but the spirit was not willing to go without a fight.

I just became completely overwhelmed and I broke down crying for no reason.

I feel this certain pressure completely surrounding me.

The best way I can describe it is you're being sucked down under water

so it's just pressure from all sides and I just start crying.

After our medium helped cross over the lantern lady,

you just felt this lift off your shoulders.

There wasn't so much pressure anymore.

We've never had any more issues with the lady and the lantern.

All those horrible things that kept happening, the horses getting hurt,

the horses dying, all that kind of stuff, that's all stopped.

I actually, I really do believe that things have changed here.

It's scared me because it's not a normal presence.

There was something really bad for all these bad things to keep happening all the time.

This wasn't a good presence and I don't know if I believed in bad presences before,

but I certainly do now.

Often the spirits of the long deceased can be helped to finally find eternal peace.

But other times the dead who returned from the grave

passed away in such violent and tragic circumstances

that their hell-bent on coming back to life.

My husband and I had just gotten married

and I found this cute little apartment.

Everything about the apartment was very, very charming.

For the price it was pretty big.

It was in a very old building built in 1905 or so.

So it was attractive.

I was very happy with it.

we saw this little boy driving by on his bike.

And we said, yeah.

And he said, you'll regret it.

We didn't really know what he meant by that.

And it seemed like a foreshadowing for the future.

So it was about two weeks after we moved in

and I was washing the dishes and putting stuff away.

We still had a lot of boxes all over the place.

And all of a sudden I heard this rumbling behind me

in the hallway.

And I was like, what's in the boxes?

Almost like there was a mouse or something in the box.

But I didn't see anything.

Went back to washing the dishes,

just telling myself, you're just hearing things.

But the more I was doing the dishes,

the more I was hearing a rustling.

So I turned around and stared at it.

I saw the box that was open like this

close each leaf right in front of me.

That's not possible.

It's not possible for a box to close by itself completely.

This was all making me feel like

there's something wrong with this place.

I just thought that I don't know what to do.

I just thought that I don't know.

You know, I wasn't there

and that maybe she's just crazy.

That was not the last of the strange things

that happened to Suki

and the next one proved to be much more dangerous.

A few weeks later, I was watching TV.

I started to smell this cologne

kind of lingering around me.

And so I kind of froze and tightened up

and I was looking around to see

but of course I couldn't see anything.

Some people may pick up on an odor within the home

such as cologne or cigarettes

or something that's not normally in the house

which could indicate the presence of a spirit

or negative energy

that could be trapped in that location.

And as I was sitting there,

I felt hands on my neck.

I felt them squeezing my neck.

And then I stood straight up

and I said, stop.

Whoever this is, stop.

It felt like a real human presence.

I just stood there

in complete fear.

I was so scared.

But when I looked around,

I couldn't see anyone there

so I thought I was going crazy.

She would tell me as time went on

that she was feeling a presence.

Every time I would feel a presence

I would feel like I was in a dream

or I was in a dream.

or in the bathroom,

especially when I was getting undressed,

I would feel as if somebody was watching me.

At first I would look out the window

to see if there was anyone

One thing she would say repeatedly

is that when she would shower

she felt like there was a guy watching her.

I was in the shower

and I all of a sudden

felt the temperature of the room go down.

And I thought to myself

as you logically do

well maybe the window

is cracked open a little bit

but the window was closed.

Then all of a sudden

the shower curtain was moving

on its own.

That took me aback.

And then suddenly I saw a hand

print kind of come

through the shower curtain

and move towards me.

Oh my God.

experiencing strange things

in her new home.

But then the activity

took a terrifying new turn.

I was in the shower

and suddenly I saw

And then I felt

something playing with my hair.

My hair was actually

moving on its own.

This is not possible

that my hair is moving

on its own.

I'd never experienced

something like that

before in my life.

I was terrified.

I just ran out

as fast as I could.

Right after that

I called my husband

and he calmed me down

and he told me

that I was being crazy.

It must have all

been a dream for a long.

I started really feeling

some extremely negative

energy and started

seeing things that were

just like, okay,

living here is going

to be unpleasant.

We had a spare bedroom

and he started seeing

the door knob opening

by itself.

These were very

old, heavy doors

so it's not something

that would just happen

from a little bit of wind.

It would take quite a lot

of effort to turn a knob

and actually open the door.

And that door

would blow open

all the time.

Like we'd just be sitting

there watching TV

and it would just go...

And nobody was there.

It was really

when he started

to realize,

Suki's right,

there's something

going on in this house

and there's ghosts.

And it was just

undeniable.

It was undeniable.

Soon Rob also fell

victim to the terrifying

night time attacks.

Sometimes Rob would

wake up and he would

just be screaming

He would say this

angry spirit is trying

to kill me.

I would have

these dreams where

it's trying to choke me

and I'm fighting with it.

It's like it wanted

to stop your energy.

It wanted to stop

you from living.

This is when I really

started realizing that

what I was dealing with

here was not just

a regular spirit or ghost.

It was something

very evil and very

dark and demonic.

It wasn't long

before Suki witnessed

a new escalation

in the activity.

One day I was in

my bedroom and I was

getting ready for work

and I suddenly just

saw something go by.

I was in the house

because no one

was in the house with me.

So I went out

into the hallway.

As I looked

down the hallway

I saw this woman

dressed in white,

completely white.

She was walking

very slowly,

and as soon as

she passed the end

of the hallway

she just kind of

disappeared.

Evaporated

into nothing.

That was the first

thing that I actually

saw physically

with my eyes.

Somebody that was

in my house

that wasn't

supposed to be there.

A few weeks

later I was sitting

with my neighbors

downstairs and we

were having a few

drinks on their

front porch and

they started to tell

us about the story

of the house.

And there had been

a pretty high

profile murder

in the state of

Delaware.

And the woman

was living in

this building

at the time

when she was murdered.

After having

endured months

of terrifying

and violent

paranormal activity,

Suki Iliterio

and her husband

Rob thought

they had discovered

the reason behind it.

The story

of the house

was a mystery

to the family.

The family

had been

in the house

for a long time

and the family

had been

in the house

was trying to

find the reason

why he was,

looking for letters

and keys

and what versions

of the house

the family

had been looking

for.

After a

great period of

contemplation

and concentration

on what

the house

was about,

And as I was watching it, I felt something behind me,

and my hair kind of moved.

There are no suspects yet.

And I looked over, and I saw her come through the wall,

the same spirit, the same woman in the white.

And I felt her actually watching the documentary with me

while I was watching what had gone on in her life.

And that's when I got very sad.

I cried, and I felt her pain.

I realized that this life that she had,

it was so tragically taken away from her.

And she died about the same age that I was.

So there was this real connection

of I was actually living the life that she

didn't get a chance to live.

If someone died tragically, it could have happened so fast

that they don't know they're deceased.

It's possible for a spirit to finally realize

they are deceased through media or overhearing conversation

of the living about their death.

A spirit who suddenly finds out that they are deceased

can react very violently to that news.

And that's when she got very angry and hostile.

These kinds of incidents would just repeat and repeat,

and you just became sick of it.

Suki and Rob hope that knowing the history of the house

would make the hauntings easier to cope with.

They were wrong.

One particular day when his mother had

come to visit us for dinner, the electricity

started to play tricks on us.

Oh my god.

The lights just went out.

Uh.

Yeah.

It's probably nothing.

Probably just a fuse.

Yeah.

Oh, look.

Look what I got.

I don't know what.

Yeah.

Oh!

And I say play tricks because sometimes

the lights would go off.

And then all of a sudden, the lights would come back on.

The electricity in the entire apartment would pulsate.

It would start out.

Everything would get dimmer.

And you could feel it in the air.

Like, it would start to lose its conductivity.

And it would make, like, a hard noise.

Like, it would go, hmm.

And it would go, hmm.

It felt like there was, like, an electrical entity

in that room.

And it was not only watching you,

but it wasn't happy with you at all.

Just pure, concentrated evil.

No!

The window right by his mother completely

shattered from the inside.

And glass just sprayed all across the room.

And we were all just sitting there looking at it in shock.

We tried to figure out why the window would burst like that.

But there was no logical explanation.

This was the end of the road for us.

And we had to very, very determinedly

get out of this house.

We decided we were going to leave that night.

But we were both kind of spiraling out of control.

We stuffed the car with all of our belongings

as much as we could.

And I remember pulling away, pulling away from the house

and looking at it one last time and feeling like,

I'm never coming back here.

I'm so happy to get out of here.

And as we drove away, I felt this weight

just lift off of my shoulders.

It was very liberating to just get out of there.

This is one of the most terrifying

experiences of my life.

I can't imagine going through this again.
