To prevent this, Ursula's mother crafted

She wore it to bed for months to avoid
intimacy with her husband.

Rumors spread that José Arcadio Buendía

initially. But one day, in a cockfight,
a man named Prudentio Aguilar

mocked his manhood publicly.

Jose Arcadio Buendia was so furious that
he killed Prudentio in a duel.

Life was so basic that most things
didn't even have names.

Every year, gypsies visited Macondo with
strange inventions.

One year, they brought ice.

Young Oriniano was amazed by it. He
never forgot the sight.

The gypsy leader, Melquiades, showed
Jose Arcadio Buendia magnets.

This made him want to hunt for gold. But
all he dug up was a rusty old suit of

armor with a skeleton inside.

Melchiades later returned with more
items. A telescope and a giant

glass. Jose Arcadio thought the glass
could work as a weapon.

He swapped Ursula's hidden gold coins
for it.

He experimented with solar warfare and
sent his findings to the government, but

they never replied.

They named her Rebecca.

Rebecca often sat in a rocking chair.

that Rebecca was sitting in her rocking

chair with glowing eyes.

She realized that the insomnia plague
had reached Macondo.

At first, José Arcadio Buendia found it
funny that no one needed sleep.

However, visitation warned him that
eventually it would lead to memory loss.

Soon, the candy animals Ursula made
started spreading the plague throughout

town. In the beginning, people enjoyed
walking without rest, but before long,

they began.

Aureliano came up with a solution.

When the renovations were almost
finished, a magistrate named Don

Moscotti insisted that all houses must
be painted blue.

José Arcadio Buendía refused to follow
this order and forced the magistrate to

leave town.

However, Mascote soon returned with
soldiers and his family.

This time, José Arcadio Buendía decided
to negotiate.

He agreed to let Mascote stay under two
conditions.

First, the townspeople could paint their
houses any color they wanted and

second, The soldiers had to leave.

Moscote agreed to these terms. The
soldiers left and the magistrate and his

family stayed in Macondo.

Ursula ordered a piano for their newly
renovated house.

An Italian expert named Pietro Crespi
arrived to set up the instrument.

Both Rebecca and Amaranta were attracted
to him and they competed for his

attention. However, Pietro Crespi
eventually grew closer to Rebecca.

After he left, Rebecca even went back to
her unusual habit of eating earth.

Meanwhile, Aureliano fell in love with
Remedios, the nine -year -old daughter

Moscote. He began writing poetry and
became lovesick. To find comfort, he

strongholds were being wiped out and

advised him to surrender the town to
avoid further destruction.

But Arcadio refused to listen.

With only a small and poorly trained
group of soldiers, he chose to defend

Macondo. In the battle that followed,
all of Arcadio's men were killed and the

liberals were defeated.

The conservative army recaptured
Macondo.

and Arcadio was captured and sentenced
to death.

He was executed by a firing squad.

When the liberals lost the war, Colonel
Aureliano Buendia and his friend,

Colonel Gerinaldo Marquez, were captured
and sentenced to be executed by a

firing squad.

Aureliano's last request was that his
execution take place in his hometown,

firing squad, Jose Arcadio appeared,

townspeople weren't at all impressed.

After all, they had ridden a magic
carpet years before.

In a short time, more shops were run by
foreigners, and gambling houses and

shooting ranges began to appear.

In just eight months, Macondo looked
completely different.

Only Remedios, the beauty, stayed the
same.

She acted very much like a child and her
unusual behavior made men fall madly in

love with her.

Three men even died trying to chase her
but she never seemed to notice.

Then one day she simply floated up into
the sky and disappeared forever.

Meanwhile, capitalists took over the
town and exploited the locals for cheap

labor. Colonel Aureliano Buendia

Meanwhile, the government secretly
killed anyone they suspected of joining

union. They also denied that any
violence had occurred.

They even claimed that the banana
plantation had no workers at all.

Traumatized by these events, José
Arcadio Segundo hid in Melquiades' old

There, he studied the mysterious
writings left behind by the gypsy. He

himself from the world, determined to
keep the memory of the massacre alive.

The heavy rain that began after the
massacre lasted for almost five years.

During that time, Aureliano Segundo
stayed inside and became very calm and

quiet. The constant rain damaged the
house and ruined his wealth as all his

animals, bred with Metrocotus, died in
the floods.

To pass the time, he spent his days
searching for Ursula's hidden gold coins

Not long after, Amaranta Ursula started
bleeding heavily and died.

Heartbroken, Aureliano wandered through
the empty town without any direction.

In his sorrow, he even forgot about his
newborn son.

who had been left alone in the house.

When he finally returned, he found the
baby dead, swollen, and being eaten

by ants.

At that moment, he recalled a line from
Melchior Delsa's manuscripts.

The first of the line is tied to a tree,
and the last is being eaten by the

and finally decoded Melchiades' ancient
