to a hidden mine entrance...

The team uncovered a massive chamber

300 feet beneath Blind Frog Ranch...

That they believe is
the legendary Keyhole Chamber.

Guys, we've gone in far enough.

The distance is right.
The bearing is correct.

This has to be the Keyhole Chamber.

After two days of excavation
in search of Aztec treasure,

they made a breakthrough discovery.

You just pulled out gold ingots.

Now, as Ron heads to Arizona

to have the gold ingots analyzed,

the team continues
excavating the chamber,

hoping to find more treasure.

I believe that that gold
probably originated

from the Aztec.

you have all these different feelings.

because I don't know
where the hell I'm going.

There's a lot of risk involved
when you're digging into voids,

not knowing what we'll find
on the other side.

But at the same time, it's worth it

because I know there has to be
more treasure down here.

And I'm not giving up on finding it.

After uncovering three ingots
hidden in the Keyhole Chamber,

Ron turned to his trusted gold analyst

to determine their origin.

First of all, here's your ingots back.

Well, let's just check those first

to make sure they're all there.

Dick is an associate that I've used a lot.

Of course, I've been mining,
prospecting a lot of my life,

and any time I have a question
or I want something analyzed,

something assayed, I go to Dick.

He's very quiet, he's secretive.

If I tell him not to say something,

he does not say anything.

He gets me the results,
but he can analyze

anything I give him.

Well, I've got some interesting results

- for you here.

The thing that's really
strange is this high percentage

of copper.
We have a sample here at 25%.

Gold's more typically around 1%.

20 to 25% is extremely unusual.

That's pretty interesting.

When you make bullion,
you don't want copper in it,

- that much copper.
- Exactly.

The only thing that that would
indicate to me is that it was

added to the sample.

To get a higher percentage

for whatever reason they wanted it.

Number two is the grouping
of the trace elements.

We've got platinum,
rhodium, and palladium.

This grouping is simply not
found in Utah.

I've seen samples
that have come from Australia,

South America, Mexico.

Mexico?

Supposedly in Mexico,
the Aztecs used a lot

of copper, mixing it into their bullion,

make it harder, to change color.

And the grouping
of those trace elements,

Mexico is a good candidate.

The fact that we tested these bars

and the results came out as they did

kind of proves that it is Aztec gold.

Most miners do not add copper
to gold bars.

Aztecs would have.

The Aztec added copper to their gold

to create tumbaga,

a versatile alloy prized for its rich color

and added strength that gave
their jewelry and artifacts

an unmistakable quality.

The amount of copper

and other elements in the ingots

suggest the gold has Aztec origins.

We think the gold-copper alloy
in these ingots point

to the Aztec, possible Aztecan
gold long buried

in the Keyhole Chamber. In the Uintas.

These results would correlate
with where these came from.

So your theory might be
that this was actually Aztec.

- Yes.

Very interesting.

Makes me pretty excited
that these tests indicate gold

that could have originated
from the Aztecs

exist on Blind Frog Ranch.

And it's not just the Keyhole Chamber.

For the past few weeks, my research

into the Rhoads Journal suggests

that there are other chambers
full of Aztec gold.

My next goal is to figure out
where these other chambers

of gold could be.

used by many Indigenous cultures.

Carved into the shape
of animals or people,

they often serve as guardians
against danger

Many people believe disturbing them

has severe consequences.

in the Keyhole Chamber,

to Blind Frog.

but there's a lot of wild animals out here.

I was sick since January,

for a year and a half now.

from someone who detected

strange anomalies on the ranch.

with what's been happening to me

There's a lot of things going on

on this ranch
that people don't understand.

So far, we've covered
about 70% of the chamber.

We haven't found
any additional gold ingots yet,

This is an applied lip. So that's old style.

They just took a piece of glass

and wrapped it around there
to make the lip.

Maybe 1870s, but probably before that,

1860s, 1850s.

Well, that would set right in
with that Mormon era here

when they... from the 1850s onward.

You know?

Well, somebody had a stash

- right there in that hole, beneath the floor.
- Yeah.

And along with the other
artifacts we found,

that wasn't the Aztecs
who put them there.

- This is something, man.
- Yeah.

This is some incredible finds.

All of the artifacts we're
finding in here are pointing

to the fact
that modern people were in here.

Based on the design of the glass,

it's from the early Mormon era.

And if we're talking Mormon era,

Thomas Rhoads could have
been down here.

There's a story that he once
arrived at Salt Lake City

with so much gold that ingots
were falling off of his wagon

on his way through town.

We think Thomas Rhoads
financed Mormonism with gold

from the Uinta Mountains.

And I believe they were successful.

I believe that that success
is what a lot of the legends

were built off of.

It just makes me think

that we're onto something
really big right now.

before the team returns

to the Keyhole excavation,

Ron and James are
meeting with Mormon expert

Dr. Roger Blomquist to decipher
a clue that might lead

to more chambers of Aztec gold.

You bet, only way to travel.

Through my research
the past few weeks,

I'm convinced that the Keyhole Chamber

isn't the only place with stored treasure.

We're looking for other chambers

where there could be Aztec gold.

And I think the Rhoads Journal
was the Mormon's search

for all of those chambers.

And one passage I found in
particular piqued my interest.

They seem to be very old,
written in some kind

of a language, a map.

It may be Deseret, the Deseret alphabet.

If something was written
in a code with a map,

my treasure-hunting senses
are always up.

So, to help us decipher this passage,

I'm meeting with Dr. Blomquist,

who is very knowledgeable
on Mormon history.

So, this was in between two of the pages

and we think we know what it might be.

What it is, this is
the old antiquated obsolete.

Deseret alphabet.

The Deseret alphabet
is a phonetic alphabet.

It started in the 1850s

- and lasted for about 20 years, give or take.
- Really?

Under Brigham Young,
the Deseret alphabet

was created for Mormon settlers
in the Utah Territory.

Its cryptic characters made it
nearly impossible for outsiders

to decipher and perfect
for writing coded messages.

So, Doc, can you decipher this?

Yeah. Yeah.

And we'll take it sentence
by sentence and break it down

and correlate with Ron
with what he knows.

OK, so the first line,
"Have had the offering in hand"

"and come to believe there are others."

"Chief is gone, but many
of his people have spoken

of property of ancients
in the breathing earth."

Breathing earth to me would be caves.

- A cave system.
- A cave system.

And I think maybe the property
of the ancients must mean

the Aztecs, the Aztec treasure.

- You agree with that James?
- Yeah.

The Aztecs were the ancients.

OK, so the next line...

"Small hawk leads to stairs of gold."

"Big hands hold safe
the Golden Staircase."

"I believe this could be
the big resting place."

"Big," I would imagine, means important.

So this is interesting to me because,

based on my research,

it's not just the Keyhole Chamber

that contained gold.

We believe there's several locations

where this treasure could be.

Maybe what this Golden Staircase,

whatever it is, holds this treasure.

And I think that's what
the maps are trying to lead us

- to in the journal.
- For sure.

So the passage
that Dr. Blomquist translated

indicates there is
another chamber of gold

called the Golden Staircase.

What we gotta do now is find
the location of it.

As the fifth day of the Keyhole
excavation begins,

Charlie has invited physicist
and engineer Dr. Jim Segala

back to the ranch.

Segala placed seismic recording devices

on the property last year

and uncovered unexplained
electromagnetic activity

on the ranch.

Now he's returned
to Blind Frog to discuss

another mysterious anomaly
deep below the surface.

Something strange going on
under the property.

Some days ago there was a earthquake

right underneath Blind Frog.

In fact, it's right smack dab
in the center of it.

It was very strange for this area.

That's interesting, because we felt that

when we were underground
heading to the Keyhole Chamber.

- Hey, you guys hear that?
- What was that?

Sounds like something rumbling
underneath us.

It's about 70 kilometers deep,

- which is pretty deep.
- Wow.

It was into the mantle.

On September 10th,
a rare earthquake struck Utah

68 kilometers below the surface.

At more than 10 times the depth
of typical Utah quakes,

this one occurred in the Earth's mantle.

It's very possible there
is something strange

under this property

that's causing all the things happening.

So I worked on a little bit of a plan

to put some devices out there,

record over a period of 24 hours,

and see if we can
actually measure this thing.

Well, given this information,
I would say let's get started.

Yeah.

Dr. Segala is strategically
placing sensors

around Blind Frog Ranch.

If they detect underground anomalies,

he'll use those hits
to triangulate the source,

zeroing in on the true
epicenter of the disturbances.

So we're gonna leave it in here,

try to get it as flat as possible,

and then we're gonna
come back later tomorrow

and basically pick the data out.

Based on the evidence,
the team believes that the gold

that was once stored here
in the Keyhole Chamber

was already cleared out by the Mormons.

But as the excavation
of the Keyhole Chamber

comes to an end,

the chase for the Aztec gold
is only beginning.

It's a huge accomplishment

to find something that was lost

for over a century.

I mean, this is a huge moment for us,

but our work's not done.
We've got a lot more to do.

had friends at one time.

I want to know where the rest of it is.

I spent years looking for this spot.

tears, and lots of money

to get us to right here.

the team believes
Thomas Rhoads removed

all the gold that was once stored inside

and will now set
their sights on other caches

of Aztec treasure in the area.

With the Keyhole Chamber
completely excavated and empty,

we need to move on.

There's more gold to be found out there.

Based on my research,
there's six other chambers

of gold out there.

And after Blomquist
deciphered this passage

from the Rhoads Journal,
I believe we found one of them.

James and I spoke

with a Mormon expert, Dr. Blomquist,

and he was able to decipher

this passage in the Rhoads Journal.

"Small hawk leads to stairs of gold.

"Big hands hold safe
the Golden Staircase.

I believe this could be
the big resting place."

"Big," I would imagine, means important.

I believe that
this Golden Staircase is one

of the other six chambers.

They are caches of gold from the Aztecs.

This map is depicting somewhere
in the Uinta Mountains,

but all we have
to go on are these symbols

and the topography drawings,
which stands out to me

as this H symbol here,
which is often used to signify

something of important.

I think that could be
the Golden Staircase entrance.

It's gonna be hard to decipher,
but we're trying

to look at the topo and figure out

if the land formation looks

like what's drawn
on Thomas Rhoads' map.

What we're looking at on the topo

is some similarity to the map
that's in the journal.

These two lines could be ridge lines.

It might be a valley.

We just don't know until we get
out there and maybe see

some similarities to what's
on the map in the journal.

Well, James, you were talking
about something

over here, weren't you?

Yeah, more on an eastern direction,

right up in this area.

Right here, there was a ridge here,

a ridge line here,
but it's not an exact match.

It's not a ridge, but it's linear.

It has sort of the shape of that.

But then, I mean, how sure are we

that it was gonna be an exact

- way of drawing?
- Yeah, it's hand drawn.

- Yeah, he's not above looking down.
- No, hand drawn.

He's on a ridge drawing from a ridge line.

And we have the benefit
of this modern map.

Right, right, and who then...

- He didn't have that.
- Yeah.

I mean, there's lots of ridges
in this country here.

We've got a few locations.

We just need to narrow it down
because we've got

to start somewhere.

Maybe this area up here then fits that.

And we've got two ridges
coming in on either side,

just like this. The angles look right.

It's the only spot that
has two ridges close together

in the way that this looks
like it's orientated.

So maybe that's our target zone
right there.

The team has identified
a location just northeast

of Blind Frog Ranch that seems to align

with the Golden Staircase map
from the journal.

- Maybe Chili and I should go out there and investigate that.
- OK.

From there, we'll have to improvise

and see if we can locate
any other markers from this map.

Just prepare for a pretty long hike.

My dad uncovering this Golden Staircase

is a great lead for us.

All right, I think we got a plan.

The great thing about
treasure hunts is you're always

uncovering something new.

so the trees are starting to open up.

The hunt for the Golden
Staircase begins two miles

northeast of the ranch
on a ridge line of the Uintas

that reaches 12,000 feet in elevation

and stretches 43 miles long.

We're seeing a marker on the map
that we think maybe indicates

where the Golden Staircase is.

It looks kind of like the shape of an H.

And that can indicate
some sort of opening,

an entrance, a portal.

And if we can figure out where
these other markers are,

we can orient ourselves
and find that marker.

There's a rock outcrop right there.

Yeah, this must be the top
of that ridge line.

Find a good little lookout.

Yeah, this looks good right here,

good vantage point.

Well, by looking on the map,
you think you can find

the exact spot where we're at?

That's this jut right here.

So I think we're right about here.

OK.

- Let's get that journal out.

Because I want to compare it
to the geography here.

So I'm thinking that this

is the ridge line we're standing on

- right now.
- OK.

And I'm thinking that this is

depicting this cliff edge right here.

I think that's right over there.

And you see this symbol here?

What is that?

To me, it looks like it's a marking

that's like a depression in the ground.

Maybe it's an old working,
like a prospect or something.

Let's follow the ridge line

and search for something
that could be this symbol.

We have to be able to figure out

what this meant to whoever
the heck put this in here.

Deciphering treasure maps is hard.

You don't know what the author
of that meant, you know,

what they were thinking,
what that symbol meant to them.

It might be difficult to spot
all these years later

because the landscape
changes constantly.

It's tough, but this is what
my dad and I live for,

using the past to figure out the present.

After placing recording
devices around Blind Frog Ranch

yesterday, Dr. Segala has
returned to share his findings.

After looking at it for quite a while,

we saw a periodic bump

in three spots at about an hour
and a half interval.

So every hour and a half,

you would see a bump in each one.

So that leads me to believe

that there's this undulating,
large energy mass

that was flowing around the ground.

That could be the thing that's
actually disturbing the plates

and making it slip and go...
and crash into each other.

But it's not a continuous energy flow,

it has different densities
depending on where it is.

And the biggest density,
the biggest spike,

was at the Bead Site.

It could be the epicenter.

This type of thing, if it's strong enough,

the human body's gonna perceive
that as something dangerous.

That's why you see a lot
of people that have these

autoimmune symptoms.

This concerns me.

Could this be what's made
some of our team sick?

Well, that's a really good question.

That's something
that we're trying to understand.

It's very possible that this energy system

that's underneath here
is actually causing that.

The closer you are to the source,

the more dangerous
that's gonna become.

That all could tie
into working in that area.
