that your grandson
had adopted two children.

It reminded me

of when my destitute mother
left me

on the steps of an orphanage,
never to return.

So, when I found out
that Martin had adopted

two children-- not two babies,
but two children--

my respect for you
grew enormously.

What you and Smitty are taking
on is a great responsibility.

And now those children
will have parents

who show compassion.

Remember, money is a good thing.

I've made a lot of it,

so has Vernon,

but a society without compassion
for those who have less than...

not worth living in.
