"The Great One." How did that

name come about?

>> No, actually, Orson Welles

was the first to call me "The

Great One." I'm not exactly sure

why. And then Lucy continued

that tradition and started

calling me that as well. And I

never had a problem with it.

I learned to deal with it.

>> Why was "The Honeymooners"

so successful?

>> Well, I can probably give you

30 reasons why. But the one that

comes to mind is it was funny.

>> Is it true that you didn't

like to rehearse?

>> I was never fond of

rehearsing, simply because

I believe that the best comedy

should have a certain degree

of spontaneity and surprise.

And it was just totally

a decision made by my technique.

I liked to be surprised as well,

and the more I rehearsed, the

more I felt it was watered down,

and so I rarely rehearsed.

for enjoying your libations.

>> Now, that is a lie.

( laughs ) I drank for one

reason only, and that is to get

bagged. It never got in the way

of my work. I never drank on

show day. I was always on time.

nothing we can't handle.

that's ever happened to me. It's

thing. You know, it's probably

just, you know, like a year

contract, so to uproot everybody

and go clear across the country

probably doesn't make sense

about the kid. I mean, you think

she's fussy now? Can you imagine

we all get on a train and go

clear across to California?

She'll never sleep. And with

the time change and everything,

you're doing a big-time picture

They're struggling. Write it

You know the feeling.

there's a bunch of kids just--

argue, and it isn't funny when

you argue in front of children.

He's the kid. That's the point.

the blubbering kid that

won't grow up.

>> Okay, so then it's

just the two of them,

and they're loners--
