I took a huge gamble.

For a chance to find the pay streak

of the original nome gold rush.

And I haven't hit my
gold target for weeks.

The freeze is close.

But there's enough time to find fortune

before the doors slam shut.

I've been on top for over a decade.

And I refuse to fail.

It's a cold morning.

After a game-changing discovery,

Zeke tenhoff has been forced

to make a crew change
that hits close to home.

We're out, nice, bright, and early.

The sun is just starting to
think about maybe coming up

here after a little while.

And I got my brother Gabe out here.

My brothers are gonna
kind of swap around because,

like, we're just kind
of... tensions are high.

The last time we went
out, things went really well.

We found some awesome gold
under a giant pile of boulders.

The problem is that it's really hard work,

and it may be a little bit too dangerous.

And unfortunately, my brother
Sam didn't want to dive on it

because he believes it
might be too dangerous.

- I don't feel comfortable.
- That's a problem.

We're gonna swap around the rotation.

I'm gonna have Sam dive on night shift

and my brother Gabe on day shift.

It might just make things a little easier.

Yet again, we persist.

We are on time, out of the harbor.

My brothers are very different.

My brother Sam is a musician,
and so he feels kind of that

gold mining is not the
main thing that he does,

whereas Gabe and I are 100%.

And so I'm hoping to
get two dives in today,

but these boulders are no joke.

- Shall we?
- Yeah.

Yeah, let's do it.

It's tough to work in this Boulder field.

- Let's start pulling it up.
- Ok.

Haul up on it just a little bit gently.

Yeah, yeah.

Ok, there it goes.

And it's really tough to move
this 14-inch nozzle around

and navigate these boulders
with it because it's so heavy.

- I'm gonna do that.

It's the biggest nozzle in
the suction dredging fleet.

And so, I'm gonna have
Gabe help me move around

by adjusting the anchor line.

That's gonna involve
Gabe firing up the hydraulics

and releasing five feet from one anchor,

and then pulling in five
feet on another anchor.

It's going to help me a lot underwater,

but Gabe's gonna be really busy topside.

Nice. That's good.

and he always ends up
having you go back and forth.

The first half of the
summer was not great.

we're still not in the water.

He's not gonna get any better.

The nitrox machine is only
running off of one cylinder.

At this point, we might
as well just go into town.

It's straight up 1.8. That does not cut it.

But last time out, we turned the corner.

We got the nitrox system fixed

and got on the best gold of the season.

I want to get back out
there and dive until dawn.

Some teams have a night crew,

but we've just got Scott and Richie,

so we're aiming for two
dives from each of them.

That'll be a total of 18 hours.

It means pushing them
and hoping they have

the stamina to do it.

- We're on spot right now.

We're hitting the same area as last time,

but with more hours,

we ought to have a fantastic clean out,

All this overburden is
disappearing really fast.

I'm liking what I'm seeing.

We cleaned out the first cut,

but fell behind trying to
get the pay on the second.

We had to shut down the wash
plant because we didn't have

anything to run through it.

Look at how quick this is coming down.

We have a whole fleet of
new toys to get through this dirt.

It's adding to my tab,
but it's also putting things

into high gear.

We gotta be getting close to bedrock.

That's where all the gold's at.

We're almost to bedrock.

My plan is to open
up as much as we can,

take all this lower grade stuff,

and then come in and
take that high grade.

repairs on the mistress,

and we should have the
mistress back in the water today.

After a season of turmoil,

together for their end
of summer onslaught.

mistress a couple weeks ago.

The plan was to have the
crawler and the mistress

both making money for
the rest of the summer.

We've been working around
the clock to get the mistress

back on water.

We're not done yet.

We're close, but we're not 100%.

So while the final fixes are being done,

I'm going to take the crawler out.

The plan is simple.

and the mistress getting

beating, it'll get damaged.
