crawler on the deepest water

the fleet has ever mined.

But that would be too easy.

The front compartment,

We're going to go there,
assess the situation,

and see how much trouble I'm in.

'Cause worst case scenario,
we need to plug that hole up

with jackets or something, you know?

Something just to limp home.

and it's not looking good.

to do to keep going forward,

found a phenomenon called

cheese sandwich that
most people know about,

but you rarely see it.

What it consists of is five
layers, gold sandwiched between

gravel and Clay, and
more Clay and then gravel.

My hope is that the deeper
we go, the more concentrated

that that gold is going to be.

So I'm gonna put in a three-hour shift

and go check it out.

With pay dirt dwindling,

racing to get the next cut
open to keep production going.

Everybody's focused
on opening up this cut.

Trying to get down to pay dirt.

Plugging away.

We're getting close.

You can see we're down.

I'd say within 10 to 15 feet of pay.

Right now, I'm feeling a little
discouraged because we're going

to run out of pay dirt.

Without pay dirt, the
plant's not gonna run.

We're going to have a
little bit of making up to do at

the end of this.

It takes weeks to dig
down 80 feet to the pay.

Still a mountain of work to do.

And we still have a long way to go.

So we started using the water
Cannon to help move this along.

The monitor is doing a great job.

It's carrying all this slimy
Clay and carrying it all

the way back into that back hole.

The problem with this Clay,

pulls the water and just
turns into a great big sponge.

God's helping move that away.

It's definitely helping
us right now get down

to pay faster.

Trying to work smarter, not harder.

Sometimes that just
doesn't work in my favor.

I'm doing everything I
can to reach pay dirt.

Gotta spend money to make money.

We just need to keep
grinding around the clock

until we get there.

Gold mining, it was the only
job I found that the harder

I worked, the more I made.

All the other jobs, the harder you work,

the more you made for somebody else.

So I figured out real
quick that gold mining is

where it's at.

It's a Jigsaw puzzle with dirt.

where to put the overburden,
where to put the black dirt.

this whole section out, that'll be

down there... Sitting
on this big bed of silt.

So you can undermine under
those rocks, and then the rocks

fall down.

But... it's hard to do
because you have rocks flying

at you from every direction.

The gold in this gravel
underneath these boulders is

really difficult to get at.

But if the box is lighting
up, then it's definitely

worth our time.

We're always avoiding
the rocks, and it's like,

"no, you can't bring this
energy into rocks because

"it slows you down too much.

You can't get gold."

I was like, " it, I'm gonna
go right into the middle

of the rocks."

This ground is really hot.

So we're gonna send
Sam down to smash out

a three-hour shift and see
how much he can put in the box.

This is probably the best spot
that we've found all summer.

Is it manageable?

Yeah, you just have to get
that nozzle underneath those

rocks into that silt.

And once you do that,
you can stay in control.
