an impact on wildlife

in the Everglades.

and when you look over here

Central Florida is facing
the worst drought

in almost a decade, leaving
rivers, lakes, and wetlands

gasping for relief.

We're burning a lot of energy.

It's hot out here.

It's unbelievably dry, like,
unbelievably dry.

That might be
our water source.

I don't know how drinkable
this is gon' be.

This little green cesspool.

This is majorly alarming.

Whoa, that stinks.

That smell might get me.

I'm just not sure anybody can
survive here for 21 days.

The humidity's already up.

It definitely seems to be
a hostile environment.

With the sun beating down,
the terrain being so dry,

I feel it's gonna be
definitely a challenge.

There should be a lot more
water than there is.

I'm concerned what that means
for a fire.

At the same time,

it's also alligator
breeding season,

so the animal I'm after the most

and love the most is a gonna be
a little testy if we show up.

21 in the Everglades.

Throughout my challenge
in Belize, I definitely had

a few days and nights where
I was running on zero sleep

and covered in insect bites.

But it's nothing
I couldn't get past then,

and it's nothing
I can't get past now.

I'm ready for the 21 days.

I'm gonna conquer Florida
and then I'm gonna conquer

the next challenge.

I believe I'm fearless.

I haven't encountered
anything yet I'm scared of.

since Belize.

I really got this nervous
energy about my partner.

I don't know anything about
their skill set or anything,

so I'm super excited,
but also super nervous.

The Florida Everglades is
a region of over 1.5 million

acres of flooded grasslands,
forests, and wetlands

in the south of the state.

The tropical savanna climate
has two seasons--

wet and dry.

However, Danni and Bob are
beginning their 21-day

challenge in the midst
of an historic drought.

The waterways that normally
flow through freely have

dried up, crippling wildlife.

But the wet season is about
to begin, which could bring

violent monsoon storms.

And with them, an influx
of hungry alligators,

poisonous water snakes,

and the Burmese python--

an invasive species which can
reach up to 20 feet in length

and take down prey
as large as 700 pounds.

Well, I can already feel
that sun, and I can tell you

we not do too good
just dwelling in this.

Yeah.

Whew, that grass
will slice you.

That sand is crazy hot.

This is not what I had in mind.

Most people don't think dry,
when they think the Everglades.

Exactly.
With a name like the Everglades,

that's the last thing
you think of.

This was definitely a wetland.

It's that drought that daggone
just got the ground scorched.

That's crazy.

Let's hope that watering hole
on that map is actually full.

No kidding.
I hope It ain't just like

a little mud hole.

We're in a drought,
so we're gonna be competing

for resources out here
with the wildlife.

So, in these areas where we do
find water, we're also gonna

find tons of gators,
tons of cottonmouth.

We're gonna have
to be careful.

Looks like it's getting
a little more green

up this way.

and anything?

In a survival situation,
you never know

how many opportunities
you're gonna get to eat,

so I think I'm gonna go ahead

we've come across

After just two days
in the Everglades,

Bob taps out of the challenge.
His PSR drops from 5.8 to 5.5.

I think a lot of people
come into this

thinking it's gonna be easy
because they've done

similar things
in their daily life.

And when you get out here,
it's just a whole other game.

I don't have a partner,
so I'm a little worried.

It's already a challenge
on its own just to go through

all this, so having
that partner, you know,

when you're not
in your happiest moments

or feeling down
or even just overexerted

is definitely beneficial.

Plus you bond real quick
out here, so...

sad to lose somebody.

Further distances.

Finding a reliable source
of water is a huge priority,

considering my current
water source is a cesspool.

I think being,
you know, a wildlife biologist

in the field, I know
the Everglades are full

of natural resources.

There's no reason I shouldn't
be able to find some,

even in this drought.

Doesn't look like a whole
lot's over there.

It's just an open area,
still very dry.

But I'm gonna go see what's
over here because it looks like

there is some taller
green grass.

I was hoping there'd be water
over here.

Just a dry creek bed, I guess.
It's all sand.

This drought really has ruined
any of the chances

for some clean water.

One thing that I can do is work
on the shelter, at least get

a bed, like a lifted bed down.

Bob and I got it started
together, but didn't get

a chance to finish.

bed frame that is tethered

to three trees,
secured by an X-cross beam.

A layer of smaller branches
form a sleeping base that are

then tied with paracord.

21 days, you'd think I could
build a decent shelter, though.

I love the heat,

I came down and thrived.

Put it on full display
that I am who I think I am.

Super proud of that.

Right now, I'm so happy
about conquering the Everglades.

Yeah.

This challenge, to me,
meant an opportunity

to redefine myself.

This was probably
the hardest thing I've done

in my adult life.
This environment is no joke.

No matter what was thrown at me,
I was able to adapt

and overcome it.

Coming out of this challenge,
I've really gained

a lot of self-confidence.
You know, it gave me

an opportunity to cement myself
as the man I hope to be.

After surviving 17 days,
Kyle shed 35 pounds,

and his PSR rises
from 6.8 to 7.5.

This is just awesome.
