jason: As paranormal investigators,

were constantly toggling between the living and the dead.

And always looking for ways to expand our expertise.

so, when we got a call from a local investigator

in virginia,

who also calls himself a "paranormal paramedic,"

we wanted to meet him to hear more about

his high stakes case and unique approach.

I've been investigating for 11 years now

and been in the medical field for 26 years.

Quite a while. So, after a while,

I started figuring,

I'm gonna make the two worlds meet.

I bring the medical equipment in

to see if it works in our field.

So, during an investigation,

I take the ekg machine, read your heart,

put it on ourselves,

and see if there's any physiological changes

that we noticed,

see if our body subconsciously reacts to things

that we don't see right away.

That's really interesting. Alright.

So what's going on with this case then.

So, the reason I called you guys in

is that there's been so much activity.

It's the most active I've seen in a house.

We're over our heads with this property.

What kind of things are happening?

There seems to be a lot more than just one thing

that's going on in there.

is what I've gotten from the clients. Okay.

The family caught this evp in the storage room.

Hmm. Alright.

It sounds like they're saying "daddy."

It does sound quite compelling.

Now, has the family experience any apparitions?

They have, and they are terrified.

They have seen a female, and it's based on the stairway.

Chris fill us in on a lot of what has been happening,

and it sounds like you have your hands full

with some pretty intense activity.

Anissa: There's just a very eerie feeling

in this house.

the house was built in 1929.

we purchased our house January of last year.

♪♪

we lived here about three months

before we started experiencing activity.

we've caught banging noises

in the kitchen.

it's frightening.

It's just a very eerie feeling.

My son john and jade moved in in September.

We moved here with the family to help them renovate.

You know, we can work on the house together.

This is when the activity really escalated.

Jade and I both saw an apparition

on the stairs.

I was at the top of the staircase.

I saw a woman.

She was looking up at me. Just staring at me.

Her hair was long, dark, and she just smiled at me.

what scares me the most about the apparition

was her smile.

It was malicious.

And then in the blink of an eye, she's gone.

a couple months later, I walked out of the kitchen

and saw the same thing --

a female...

Long black hair in the dress coming down the stairs.

Then came into the living room.

the previous female homeowner in this house,

pocahontas edmunds, may be here.

I was upstairs in the bathroom,

and, all of a sudden, the door just flew open

with such intensity.

What was weird about it was, I couldn't hear

any footsteps leading up to the door

or any footsteps leading away.

I went downstairs,

and nobody was there.

It was terrifying.

One time, when me and jade were up in the bedroom,

we did hear a knock on the door.

[ banging ]

I got up and opened the door...

And nobody was there.

anissa: We have a storage room.

That's a room nobody really likes to go in to.

John: I start an eerie feeling

as if someone's watching me.

Anissa: And we recorded an evp in there,

and it sounded like it was a child's voice saying daddy.

john: Whatever's happening here, it scares me.

Jade: I feel like I'm being watched.

I feel, at this point, that I am a target

of whatever is in this house,

but I don't feel like I'm the only target.

Anissa is the other target.

I feel scared in my own home.

I don't know if I could live

with things like this happening

for too much longer.

If no one can help or give us a peace of mind,

then, most likely, we're gonna have to move.

I am afraid they will leave,

and I don't want to lose my family.

I was sitting on the patio downstairs.

Everyone was sleeping.

And I heard stomp,

stomp, stomp, stomp across the balcony,

and I even got up and was like,

"is anybody up there?", and nobody was awake.

We're going to do everything we can to help you out

and try to figure out what's truly going on here.

to investigate the family's many paranormal claims.

and find out if pocahontas edmunds

or some other entity is haunting their home.

this is a large colonial house,

and we've got a lot of area to cover.

We're going to deploy a camera in every room where

there have been claims of paranormal activity.

Is the view getting the whole landing?

We've got three cameras

completely covering the staircase

where they've seen the female apparition.

In the kitchen here, they've cut some audio

of what sounds like objects moving around,

maybe even a door opening and closing.

So, this camera will actually

get a great shot of the entire kitchen.

We've also got one facing the storage room

where they captured the voice saying "daddy"

and one on the balcony where they heard footsteps.

at the staircase...

And this is the staircase

where the mother anissa

and jade have both claimed

to see that apparition.

Steve: Tango and I are gonna head upstairs,

as the voices we heard sounded like

they were coming from that direction.

It's also where jade had the experience

with the bathroom door.

jason: Chris and I are going to follow up on the sounds

the jones family captured on their surveillance camera

in the kitchen when nobody was home.

That sound, let's take a listen to it while we're here.

but you hear how it has a second sound after it? Boom.

It's all frozen up, 'cause the thing's been broken.

So, jade has said that this door pops open.

I was upstairs in the bathroom.

All of a sudden, the door just flew open

the footsteps anissa was hearing above her were not paranormal

jade or john could have walked out onto the balcony

and back inside before anissa yelled out to them.

but now have to figure out who or what could be behind it.

was trying to get in this house.

and we're taking a new approach

to find out if the female apparition

anissa and jade have seen is pocahontas edmunds,

the original owner of this house.

Because jade is able to describe the apparition in detail

and has seen her on more than one occasion,

we've called in a sketch artist to work with her

and illustrate exactly what this apparition looks like.

"j" and I are going to meet up with a local historian in town

to learn what we can about the history of the jones house

and the original owner, pocahontas edmunds.

So, you know the house we called on.

And we've just been trying to find

as much history on that property as possible.

Well, 1875,

judge john riley and his wife, emma, purchased the property.

- Okay. - And then he passed away,

and his wife, emma, deeded the property

to her daughter louisa and her husband.

Okay, but how do these people relate

to the original homeowner, pocahontas edmunds?

Louisa's son richard edmunds married pocahontas.

Oh, really. Okay.

Even her mother was named pocahontas.

- Wow. - She is a direct descendant

of pocahontas.

- So they kept that name - they kept the name

through the generations.

We called her pokey.

I just thought she was wonderful to deal with,

and well respected in the community.

I've always wanted to see this.

Alright, so, can you describe any eyes?

Maybe like an almond shape.

barbara: Around 1929,

richard and pocahontas built a home there

on louisa's property.

So pocahontas and her husband built that house.

When they built it, they took

some of the inside carpentry work

from the springwood house

and put parts of the house in their home up here.

- Even the front doors. - Wow.

- Interesting - quite something.

So some pieces of the springwood house

are now in the jones house here in halifax?

That could hold some residual type of energy.

for the women who passed away there.

that the apparition jade and anissa claim to have seen

was not the former homeowner pocahontas edmunds

has spun our investigation into a whole new direction.

So tonight we're broadening our focus

to include new potential suspects.

We have two other women who died at this property.

- Louisa edmunds. - Pocahontas' mother-in-law.

Steve: And, of course, emma riley.

The mother of the mother-in-law.

jason: While steve and I are in the basement,

paranormal paramedic chris is with tango testing his theory

that our body is capable of perceiving

and reacting to a paranormal presence

without our brain registering what is happening.

in order to track any fluctuations in his heart rate.

A spike in the reading will tell chris

that tango's body may be reacting

to the presence of a spirit, whether he realizes it or not.

and other noises coming from above us.

that our bodies can detect a threat

before we actually make contact with something or someone.

where john and jade heard unexplained knocks on the door.

it's very possible the spirit behind these knocks

could be causing the footsteps we just heard.

and us hearing a female's voice

around the same time we reached out to emma riley

could be a breakthrough in our case.

This means we may have a new suspect,

what's causing the sounds of doors locking and unlocking

near the kitchen.

after barbara mentioned that the jones house

was built with materials from another home in the area...

They took the front doors to place in their home up here.

That could hold some residual type of energy.

to give us some insight into the dna of this colonial house.

We've noticed a few different types of wood in this house.

This is absolutely fascinating the way this house is set up.

Anytime you could recycle goods, they would use other houses.

What can you tell us about the door?

This door right here came from springwood.

This dates to like 1818-style.

Springwood was purchased by the edmunds family,

so it was just natural to be able to purchase a family house

and add it to the existing house that they had, to expand it.

That was a common thing that they would do

back in the '20s and '30s.

Steve: This could mean that energy from the springwood house

is attached to this 1800s door,

creating the residual sounds of being locked and unlocked.

We also want barry to check out the balcony upstairs...

Steve: This whole house could be, like, a conduit, you know?

...Where we noticed a railing that looked like

it didn't fit the style of a 1920s house.

- Here's the railing. - It's beautiful.

You can see why pokey would want to have this.

This is actually the railing

that came out of a house in richmond called brockenbrough.

It was the white house of the confederacy

that jefferson davis stayed in between 1861 and 1864.

It's told that jefferson davis' son was 5 years old

may in fact be the actual voice of jefferson davis' son

who tragically fell to his death.

This entire house may be harboring energy

that's still attached to two additional historical homes,

the springwood and the brockenbrough.

So while chris and I watch the monitors,

The jones family felt under attack.

They claim the previous homeowner, pocahontas edmunds,

a direct descendant of the renowned native american legend,

is the threatening spirit inhabiting their home.

Does the name pocahontas mean anything to you?

But our investigation took a turn

after we tried to identify pocahontas?

Does that look familiar to you at all?

No.

Our research then put other suspects in the spotlight.

This door right here came from springwood.

These doors came from a different house.

Yes.

That could hold some residual type of energy.

And also tragic.

Jefferson davis' son was 5 years old

and actually fell off this exact rail.

There's a strong possibility that this railing is harboring

the energy of a little boy who fell to his death

and is the spirit behind the daddy evp.

And then there was the noise captured in the kitchen.

[ clicking ]

we believe that could be harboring an energy

connected to the door from the springwood house.

The only thing it seemed to match

was the old lock system on the double door.

We were able to create the sound very similar.

And you'll just see a quick comparison here.

- wow. - Wow.

There's a whole thing of residual-type haunts

but residual type sounds, as well,

which an object can hold the energy from something.

Okay.

Now, the energy would most likely be surrounding

or attached to the door.

You can still hear that sound.

You know, you really can, so it doesn't mean

that that lock on the door is actually physically moving.

It's just that that sound that's being created.

Oh. Okay.

We also learned about previous property owners

who lived and died on this land.

Emma riley and her daughter louisa.

Throughout the night, a few experiences we all had

did seem to culminate around emma riley.

Emma?

What was that?

That was footsteps.

It seemed intelligent, 'cause when "j" and I

were in the basement, we'd hear it coming from above us.

When we were on the third floor, we'd hear it come from below us.

Wow. The same sound we heard

when we were in the basement?

Tango actually asks, "emma, are you here with us?"

and a few seconds later,

you do hear what we interpret as a female voice.

[ whoosh ]

did you hear, like, a voice?

Yeah. I heard it, too.

Dude, I'm getting chills.

Is it getting colder in here?

A cold spot.

- Oh, wow. - It was very, very strange.

It was like putting your hand in static electricity or gelatin

that has a feeling. It's very cold.

You do have chills. Tango, what's going on with you?

I don't know, man.

It was one of the craziest things I've ever experienced.

Wow.

Jason: We encountered the most activity

only when tracking the original owner of the property,

emma riley.

Whoa. What?

Something just zipped by me.

I felt something hit my face,

and I just clocked myself.

- He clocked himself good. - Felt like I had a black eye.

Even though the historian, barbara,

didn't have a sketch or a photo of emma riley

to compare to the illustration,

we believe she is the spirit behind the hauntings

based on the responses we got from her.

But we found no evidence

that she would have any reason to target jade and anissa.

We look at this as living history.

It doesn't seem like there's anything here

that has any ill intent.

It's just saying,

"this may have been once my property,

and I want to make sure you're taking care of it,"

and it seems like you are.

So I think you can live with what's here, coexist,

and really feel comfortable. Oh, wow.
