It's rumored that the man who helped settle the town

but we've never been to hell.

The story we've heard from them

caught some interesting evidence while we were out there.

Recently, the son and daughter-in-law

moved in, like, a guest house.

They caught the video of something moving across the room

from right to left on the screen.

Something that we couldn't quite make out.

So this is the actual video footage

that they captured with their nanny cam.

The child seems to see the person at one point,

then is looking all around,

almost as if trying to figure out where it went after that.

has gone viral and has panic racing through the household.

that have been going on here.

Just wanted to come out and check for ourselves, really.

There's been a lot of different things that have happened

that I can't explain that's been very upsetting.

we purchased this home

because there was two homes

available on the property.

We wanted the extra house as a guest house.

Shortly after we moved in,

I would say within a month or two,

I noticed some strange things happening.

There was a mist-type figure from the kitchen

through my dining room.

I've seen it a couple hundred times,

the same path, the same motion.

I thought maybe

it was the original owner of the home.

Dorothy had owned the home.

We were told that she had fallen

down a set of stairs here,

had broken her hip and had, you know, laid on the floor,

and nobody found her, and she had passed away.

Most activity has been concentrated

in the hallway area.

there would be heavy footsteps,

voices waking me up in the middle of the night.

I could never quite hear what they were saying,

but I could hear them talking.

It's unnerving.

I feel threatened.

and then things started to escalate.

The steps from the dining room into the living room...

I was barefooted on a hardwood floor,

and it felt like something had grabbed me by the ankles.

I think it was dorothy.

She pulled my feet out from under me.

I fell down the steps

and thought I actually broke my back.

"oh, my gosh, just like dorothy,

it's the same thing that's happening to me."

That was all in the main house,

and we never thought

the guest house was haunted, too.

Our son and his wife moved into the guest house.

Josh and I moved into the guest house

behind josh's parents' house with our daughter, lily.

And shortly after we had moved upstairs,

I started hearing voices.

I was taking a shower, and it sounded like someone

was running up and down the steps,

and I peeked out the bathroom door...

...And there was no one there.

The previous owner, dorothy, has a brother,

and his name was timothy,

and we were told that he lived in the guest house,

and that he committed suicide

by jumping out the second-story window.

The next thing that happened was...

The choking incident.

I woke up, and I felt like something

had its hands around my throat.

Something was telling me that it didn't want me here,

and it was willing to take my life by suffocating me.

and if there is a presence here in our home,

I'd want reassurance that whatever it is,

it's not going to hurt our granddaughter.

The family believes their home is haunted by dorothy,

who broke her hip falling down the stairs

and laid there suffering for hours

before succumbing to death, and by her brother tim,

who jumped out the guest-house window to his death.

to dig up more of the history of the family.

Meanwhile, steve and I are heading into the guest house

in an attempt to find another explanation

of the ghostly image captured on the baby monitor.

Actually, my dad's grandpa, he built it,

so it was only my family that lived there

Because we had heard stories

that she had fallen on the stairway there,

So to better understand the highland area,

I'm cross-referencing the museum's map

of native american trails

with the present-day map of the same region.

what's fascinating is that this extensive network

of ancient trails run right along the lake,

which is extremely close to the higgins' property.

Well, I got some information for you guys about the area.

It was home to some very, very old native american tribes.

They bury their dead in huge mounds.

Michigan had over 1,000 mounds.

I looked at the maps.

I compared the maps and saw the trails myself.

The burial mounds often would be

right off the trails, correct?

And there's a very, very good chance

that the higgins house could be very near

or on top of one of these mounds.

I mean, that's pretty intense.

this opens up a whole other can of worms for us.

We're in highland, michigan,

investigating the higgins property,

where we were just thrown a major curveball on our case.

While zeroing in on robert as the culprit

because of his active responses...

With this new information making us rethink our focus,

we're expanding our investigation to include

native american spirits that may be here.

My buddy, chris, a native american historian

and member of the mohawk nation,

has spent the last 24 hours trying to find out.

The mounds in the area,

they date back to pre-columbian era.

The tribes that are around here,

they started using the mounds

for their own burial ceremonies.

Could've been thousands of people in one mound.

But then when the settlers came in,

they pushed the natives off the land.

They would take all the objects in the mounds --

bones, pottery -- and find other mounds for development.

They wanted to wipe out any kind of native history

in the area.

You know, do you think there is some unrest there still?

Without a doubt. If you dig somebody up,

disturbing thousands of spirits all at once,

it's gonna be bad.

Chris' confirmation that the sacred burial mounds near here

were desecrated is just the beginning.

Next, we're gonna take a closer look

at tango's map of native american trails in the area.

So there's a trail that runs right alongside

the higgins house right there.

In my research, I actually found a trail that's closer.

This map of highland, michigan, shows

where the higgins house is located.

When we placed the old native american map

over the highland map,

it shows the trails that tango found,

and chris pinpoints a trail that runs even closer.

- That's almost in their yard. - It's almost in their yard.

Considering that this house is between these two trails

and these lakes and the thousands of native spirits

have been disturbed,

I wouldn't be surprised if you guys found it

to be connected to some sort of native-type haunting.

If the tail map is accurate,

it could mean that the higgins house

was built on top of desecrated native american burial mounds.

It's very possible that the higgins haunting

has nothing to do with dorothy's death

and everything to do with a much more sinister atrocity.

The possible connection to desecrated burial mounds

is intriguing...

For whatever reason, the daughter-in-law

thinks everything that's in here is a ghost,

and the only thing that sort of holds any water in here

is that footage that we can't explain.

I mean, I honestly feel like these footsteps she's hearing

while she's in the shower, it's just a coincidence.

It just has to do with the piping and the water,

or else she would hear the footsteps

when she was out here.

It wouldn't just happen when she was in the shower.

When I was downstairs looking at the well pump,

there was that

coming from behind me in the kitchen.

Honestly, I think it's gonna be more going through

the evidence to see what turns up.

The hauntings taking place in the two houses

on the higgins' property

presented one of the most complex cases for us.

We've gone through our evidence,

which revealed some new findings to share with the family.

who died in the house to be the aggressive entity

out to harm them...

we found no evidence to suggest this.

Dorothy actually didn't fall at the stairs and die there.

She actually died of congestive heart failure

in the bedroom.

Really?

And, you know, falling down the stairs,

there is a phenomena where because you thought

dorothy did pass away there,

and your mind is trying to make

sense of the information you already have,

that when you fell,

you could've put the feeling of hands

because you want that, even though it sounds weird,

to make the whole scenario make sense.

Got it. Okay.

So that could be what's happening.

Half of what we do

is try to help people out psychologically.

And the psychological aspect of this

does play into it big.

I know you guys thought tim had fallen out a window and died.

He did pass away, but he didn't fall out the window here.

He didn't die here.

He died of issues with diabetes about an hour away.

In fact, tim was her son,

and her actual brother was named robert.

We also uncovered a native american connection

to their property.

They buried their dead in huge mounds,

and there's a very good chance that the higgins house

be very near or on top of one of these mounds.

They smushed down the area and built houses.

Of course, a lot of unhappy native americans.

That something like that happened,

it's very disrespectful. Right.

We still don't see any evidence

that if that happened close to your property there,

it has anything to do with what's happening here.

Even though our evidence

showed no connection to native americans,

it did point to dorothy's brother robert

as a dominant spirit and center of activity in both houses.

There could be something here with intelligence

because when we started talking to robert,

we were getting direct responses.

What makes that important to us

is that it's doing what we're asking,

and it's on command,

and it's only when we're referencing robert,

which sort of leads us to believe

that could be who we are communicating with.

And we also captured a male voice in the guest house

that we couldn't distinguish at the time.

It was just a... I don't know.

It was like a voice.

After going through our evidence,

we believe this voice to be robert as well.

That sounds like it says, "where is timmy?"

even though we don't know the exact place robert died,

we do know he did grow up here,

and because we got responses from him and not from dorothy,

tim and native american spirits,

and remains spiritually attached to the home.

Robert might be the dominant spirit here.

And on cue.

That shows a knowledge of how to interact

with the physical world here.

That's incredible.

But what about the apparition

and heather's intense experiences in the guest house?

We tried to re-create the experience

that was caught on the baby monitor.

We can kind of get close to it,

but we can't 100% create it.

We do believe that you have

paranormal activity going on here.

Okay.

That image that moves by, it doesn't acknowledge the baby.

It's not aware of time and space.

It's just walking by.

So it's nothing that can hurt you.

He was a really nice guy.

He was super sweet.

I know you did have a situation

where you felt something choking you.

There is the whole thing with rem sleep

where people do feel either a weight on their chest

or that they're being choked.

And it's tough to say because we weren't there,

but if it was something that seemed to continue,

then I would be concerned.

But what we discovered, there's nothing to fear.

And if there's any more problems,

Knowing dorothy did not die a torturous death

at the foot of the stairs

and tim didn't commit suicide in the guest house,

we have no reason to believe

that they would be a threatening presence targeting the family.

We hope that this new understanding of old family ties

helps the higgins family live in harmony

with the former residents who are still attached

to their childhood home and brings peace of mind

for their baby's safety in the nursery.
