My name is Cole Harrington, and I've
been hunting the western United States

since I was a kid.

My father taught me to hunt the right
way, ethically, responsibly, with

for the animals and the land.

Hunting isn't about trophies.

It's not about...

staged shots or glamorized kills like
you see on other shows.

It's about connection to the land, to
the wildlife, and to something primal

inside it.

Every hunt tells a story, and out here,
nature writes the script.

I take pride in being an ethical hunter,
giving back to the wild that gives so

much to me.

This isn't just a sport.

It's a way of life.

And if you're here watching, well, you

This is Primal Instinct.

You know, I had an interesting
experience one time deer hunting.

Not too far from here. I was kind of
thinking about it while I was on this

I ran into a, I don't know if you'd call
him a hippie, I guess maybe a hippie.

Didn't think anybody would be out as far
as I was.

Came around a bend and there he was,
barefoot.

Had his feet, like, buried in the dirt.

And... He called attention to me by
saying, he saw me first, actually.

When I went over to him, he said, he
said, are you deer hunting? And I

great.

He's going to be some protester and it's
going to be like a big pain in my ass,

right, to get away from this guy.

But I said, yeah, I am.

And he said, he said, that's good.

He said, Did you find your balance?

And I had no idea what he was talking
about, right?

And I said, well, I don't know.

You know, I don't know. I guess
everybody has their own idea of what

right? And he said, he said, the earth
has a balance.

And he said, if I'm going to be taking
something from the earth, a deer,

do I have a plan to pay it back, right?
Keep things balanced.

He was out, he was doing something, I
don't know what the term was, earthing,

don't know, I'm making that up maybe.

He had his feet in the soil and he was
saying that by his bare feet being

in the dirt like that, he was, you know,
he was connecting with earth again,

right? And he felt like I was also
connecting with earth. If I, as a

get a deer and I eat the meat, then I'm
connecting with the earth, right?

But he said, we all have to have a
balance.

when we're out here otherwise everything
gets thrown off and he asked if i if i

had figured out my balance yet and i
said well quite honestly i i don't

know how to answer that so i asked him
uh if he had any kind of um thoughts on

what you know a hunter's balance would
be and he said of course it was very you

know

out there but essentially that he
couldn't answer that because that's for

person to answer for themselves right
but he said uh if i was willing to draw

blood um from one of earth's creatures
that i may have to be willing

uh to eventually give my blood back
right to the soil balance

and he asked if i had it figured out and
i said no i don't think anybody really

can figure out

Their own mortality, you know, that's
the whole point of living life is not

knowing when it's going to end, right?

And I don't find it scary.

I think it's what makes it exciting.

That's what makes the journey worth
taking.

But he just said, he said, make sure
that you always,

always replace what you take and keep
the balance, right?

Don't take more than you give.

Don't give more than you take.

And we left each other there, and I went
on hunting. I ended up getting a deer

that year, and it was great.

But I've always thought about that. It
was interesting.

You know, we probably live very, very
different lives. I imagine he's probably

the type that he may get teary -eyed if
somebody kills a spider, right?

Which is fine.

Balance. If there's going to be somebody
like me out there, there's got to be

somebody like him. Otherwise, we just
can't harmonize, right?

It's all about the balance.

Jeremy, I don't know if you're going to
be able to do a whole lot with this

footage.

I mean, as you'll see, as you go through
this stuff,

I don't have a whole lot.

It's been a hell of a hunt. I spent nine
days.

Man, we didn't come in to anything.

I thought maybe the snow and the weather
would help drive them a little bit, but

I don't know if it being a late season
hunt, if maybe the early hunters got in

here and pushed them out. I don't know
if the fires that we had earlier did

something.

I don't know if there's a predator in
the area or what.

I did all that scouting, and we had our
eyes on a couple of good bucks, and I

didn't see them once we finally got out
here. So disheartening for sure, and I

don't know.

Trying to end a season of a show here,
and I got no deer in my hands.

I don't really know how to end this,
right?

I guess maybe you're...

Your technical wizardry with the editing
should maybe be able to do something. I

don't know. Or maybe we scrap this whole
final episode and you just do a

highlight reel or something.

I don't know, man.

I had a lot of time to just reflect, and
it was a great hunt.

You know, because everybody knows a hunt
isn't about the kill, right? If it'd be

called killing, it wouldn't be called
hunting.

And I just, I had some time to spend

thinking on things, kind of
reconnecting, get everything.

Well, I mean, who am I kidding, man?
Everything's kind of fucked.

I don't know if it's the divorce or the
uncertainty of what's going to happen

with the kids or what, but I wasn't into
this one at all, and I think that's why

the footage stinks, and maybe that's why
I didn't run into any deer. I don't

know if my heart wasn't in it or what.

Anyway, man, I appreciate everything

So All that back there That's pretty

much where we're gonna be headed into it
It's hilly country. It's rocky country.

It's where big cats like to hang out. So
That's where we're gonna go kind of

Scout today as you'll notice I Got a
rifle on me That's because we actually

have not been issued a permit yet We
applied for a depredation permit based

the ranchers, you know, claims of
livestock being taken. But state hasn't

issued one yet. So I can't actually
legally be out there hunting yet because

we're not permitted. But I got to do
this thing legal. You know, I mean,

kind of been like the entire premise of
the show, right, is doing things the

right way.

But I have never been one to do things.

The stupid way.

So. We're absolutely.

Not going in.

Completely empty handed.

So one of the big complaints.

That I had.

From the first season.

Was.

Trying to film everything.

Was a huge pain in the ass.

And.

Now. I have upgraded.

To a very cool.

POV.

body cam So now we'll be able to get
some really epic stuff Love

Sometimes

this place just feels like it was
forgotten by time, you know

I think one of the more impressive
things with the big cats

is how incredibly strong they are even
when they don't look it. Even a small

mount lion, you know, around 70, 80
pounds can hoist triple its body

weight straight up, up into these rocks,
up a tree.

Hauling off, you know, calves and young
cattle, it's not out of the realm of

possibility at all.

I'm going to go a little further in, see
if I can locate a den or something.

Might be a good indicator where they're
hanging out.

So stay tuned.

This is interesting.

Looks like it's dead.

Not that it's out of the ordinary to
find stuff like this out in the desert,

we are way, way out here.

So, to be honest,

I'm a little surprised.

You know, a lot of hunters, they go way
up into these rocks and stuff and they

misjudge everything and they fall.

So we'll take this with us, see if we
can't get it charged up and see what's

it.

One of the more concerning things about
this, actually, is that this is a new

phone. I've got the same charging port
on my phone, and I've got a charger back

in the truck, so I can get this thing
going.

It did not take much weather damage. I
mean, the screen's cracked a little bit,

but when I hit the power button, it
actually is giving me an indicator to

it in, so there's still electronics
working.

The reason I've got a little cause for
alarm is University of Nevada, Reno.

Had two anthropologists that went
missing just a few weeks ago.

And it's not far from this area that a
lot of people speculated they were.

There was some talk that maybe because
they were a romantic couple that the

boyfriend may have been a suspect. But
anybody that's spent any time up here

knows how dangerous it is. And you can
go up too high, take a spill, and fall

into a crevice real easy. Nobody would
ever find you.

Plus there's mine shafts all over in
this area.

People go down there all the time, kind
of heeding the warnings, and they don't

come back out.

So this makes me think that we could
potentially be onto something.

And depending on what's on this, I may
be, since I'm out here, right, I might

abandon this whole lion thing and go on
more of a search and rescue mission.

So yeah.

Just letting you know Jeremy when you
get all this footage I have no idea what

is gonna be on this by the time it's
done, but This could be for some pretty

compelling television, so stay tuned

here, it makes me wonder if we, you

maybe the Ice Age was a little different
around here. I wonder if early man

around here went underground instead of
just wandering.

I mean, think about it. The Ice Age
wouldn't have just been about surviving

cold and surviving the fauna and flora.

extreme hunger, from weather phenomena.

this one, especially since we're so far

out here.

too and let him know, because he may

He may have tribe squatting on his
place. I don't know maybe he knows about

I I would assume he wouldn't be hanging
human body parts from a total structure,

So, I got up high enough, get a little
bit of service, contacted Lahontan

Sheriff.

There's no way they're going to be able
to send anybody out.

We're way too far out, and they're way
too understaffed.

So the plan is, they want to come take a
look at the human remains tomorrow.

They're asking me not to touch it,
obviously.

They asked if I'd be willing to just
stay up here overnight, which is fine.

Because quite honestly, if that cat did
this, we got a man -eater in our hands.

And he's going to come back at night. So
it's going to give me at least an

opportunity to see if he's coming and
going from that mine.

Yeah, so anyway, the plan is I'm going
to stay up here tonight.

Just kind of keep watch.

If it is in fact that cat, I'll get out
of here.

I'll go get all my stuff to be prepared
for a real hunt, and we'll come back out

here and we'll take him down.

If he's coming in out of there, it's a
den, so there's no way he's going to

abandon it at this point, especially if
it's taking food in there. So stay

into a missing persons episode

we're gonna have a hit on our hands
especially if I can

find him up here alive

I know they said not to go in and
disturb any other remains or anything,

not, but that cell phone footage has a
girl and a guy,

and there's no way that that foot
belonged to that guy.

And I just feel like it wouldn't be me
if I didn't at least take one more

look through there, see if I can't
locate him.

I'll let the sheriff's office do their

walk through there but I'm gonna go
