Out here in the wild of Florida,

and I just found out
that there is a 21-day

"Naked and Afraid" going on

literally just outside
my property.

But right now is the absolute
worst time of year

to come to Florida.

Alligators in mating season
right now.

This is when alligator males
get a huge amount

of testosterone.

And because they're out there
looking for a mate,

they're also looking
for a fight.

I don't think I can sit back
and hope

that they don't get
into trouble.

And I think I have
to go out there

and see if I can help them
make sure they don't die.

Leaving the house naked.

Headed off into the bush.

All right, well,
got two new friends to meet.

I'm just not sure anybody can
survive here for 21 days.

Oh, my God!

Run! Go, go, go, go, go!

This is my first time
in the Everglades.

Super thick,
palm trees everywhere.

You can feel the humidity.

Basically like a humid hell.

It's been rainy,
it's been miserably hot,

and I'm afraid of the bug bites

in places
that the sun hasn't seen.

I think it's gonna be
incredibly hard.

All right, this is it.

I've been in the outdoors
my whole life,

going on camping trips
with my dad, my brother.

I have knowledge
of building things,

making snares,
starting fires.

So I went on a hike
at the Appalachian Trail.

I did 250 miles
on it by myself,

carrying a 50-pound pack.
And I was terrified.

You know, I'm by myself.

I had bears come up
into my camps.

I jumped across rattlesnakes.
I had no clue what I was doing.

I was winging all of it.

It was a life-changing event
for me.

I learned to control my mind,
and I learned that I'm a badass.

Did 75 miles
across the Sonora Desert,

did 90 miles in Portugal,
60 miles in Iceland.

After I found all
this confidence, it was like,

"Where's my next adventure?

Where's my next challenge?"
And here I am.

Bring on the Everglades!

Here we go.
Time to do it again.

This isn't my first challenge.

I've done a 21-day challenge
in Africa.

And also participated
in an "XL" in Colombia.

Unfortunately,
that one didn't go as planned.

Jesus Christ, man.

I'm gonna leave the challenge.

This location is not gonna work.

It's humbling, you know,
being here in the Everglades.

Obviously, the bugs and stuff
are gonna be horrendous.

So I'm not calling this
a redemption, but I'm here

to do this challenge
and crush it

because I wanna show

I'm one of the top survivalists
in "Naked and Afraid."

Florida, here I come!

Deep in the Everglades
of southern Florida,

months of historically
low rainfall

and unprecedented drought
conditions have recently ended

with a vengeance...

...as a massive influx
of violent tropical storms

have pounded the area
for days at a time,

bringing water and life
flooding back

to the marshy ecosystem,
but also awakening

its previously dormant
population of alligators

to breed and hunt
with newfound aggression,

and creating
massive infestations

of swarming insects
and mosquitoes

that pose an increased risk
for diseases

such as West Nile virus

and Eastern equine encephalitis

that can cause
brain inflammation

and death in horses and humans.

Seeing Cole, I am very excited.

I remember him from a show
that I just watched recently.

I'm a hunter,
so I brought my bow.

OK, awesome.

I actually brought paracord
with a giant gator hook on it.

Yeah, that's perfect.

We are going
gator hunting, baby.

Hell yeah.

When it comes to gators
out here, they do scare me

because I'm not trying to lose
an arm or a leg out here.

But you just gotta
let all that fear go.

And I have never
killed a gator.

And besides fish,
I have never killed anything.

But now I'm ready to jump
on the back of one,

'cause what's more badass
than that?

In addition to their
personal items,

Cole and Tori are given a pot,
a fire starter,

and due to the high risk
of mosquito-borne disease

in the area, a bug net.

We have no knife.

Yeah, that's a little
concerning to me, to be honest.

With no cutting tool,
it's gonna be difficult

to figure out our shelter,
but Tori's great.

Little on the smaller side,
but, you know, dynamite comes

in small packages.
I think we're gonna crush it.

I'm actually holding a map here.

to make it to this big

freshwater source over here.

To reach their water source,
Tori and Cole must push

through four miles
of dense marshland.

The muddy terrain
and gator-filled waterways

crawl with giant pythons
and highly venomous pit vipers,

such as the cottonmouth,
while the high grasses

conceal aggressive wild hogs
and territorial black bears.

Ow!

Look at that pig bed

Yeah, this stuff

Just keep your eye out

All my life, I've hated snakes.

They've always scared me.

I'm super nervous
not to have a knife.

but I'm gonna--

between Cole and I,
we're gonna have to really

come up with some ideas
of figuring it out.

I've been keeping my eye
out for some rocks and stuff,

but they're kind of few
and far between.

Not having a knife, I'm gonna be
as resourceful as I can.

I mean, growing up,
we weren't always allowed

to run around with a machete.

So I've done stuff like this
before, just like

a debris shelter.

So pretty much we're
using the trunk of the tree

as our main joist.

Doing an A-frame off of that
with side rails that will allow

our palm fronds to go in and do
our shingles down through it.

- Exactly.

for coming on this challenge was

seeing this bow hunter,
Mr. Matt Wright, killing it

bow hunting.
And I can do that, you know?

So he's a big inspiration for me
and I'm super pumped to see him.

of the shelter I made

was the three of us in there.

we get a fire going and just

start smoking the area out
to keep those mosquitoes at bay.

I've seen quite a few fires,
and that was one of the best.

Here we go!

This is day one,
and it didn't take long for me

to start feeling drained.

So I'm feeling parched,
a little dehydrated,

and we haven't even finished
building a shelter.

You can get hypothermic
still out here in the swamp

real easy.
- Yeah.

If you don't have a proper
shelter and it rains all night.

Matt and I are just getting
all the palm fronds layered

in there for shingles.

We're really just busting ass
and knocking this thing out.

We are working together
fantastic because we just

whipped together
a three-person shelter.

It is actually large enough
for all three of us

to lay in there,
have room to walk around,

but also it is pretty much
almost like airtight

on the sides because out here,

if you're not vigilant
into protecting yourself

from the elements,
these storms will send you home.

I am tired,
and I have a raging headache.

Definitely lost a lot
of electrolytes.

A little rest and hydration,

I think you'll be
feeling better.

Typical kind of overdoing it
for Tori on day one, I think.

You know, just hitting
those limits

of dehydration, overexertion
of building shelter,

just heat,
all those things.

Trying to drink... um,

enough water and everything,
but my head is pounding.

Like, it's gotta be a migraine.

And I feel nauseous.

I have to go throw up.

Sounds like you're doing
a little bit of that

I think that's subsided.

I kept feeling the waves
in the tent, but--

I ended up throwing up
everything that I got down

today, all the water.

Even though I'm still
uncomfortable, I feel like

if I didn't have a screaming,
pounding headache,

I could probably get some sleep
'cause I am very tired.

All the hydration I did have,
it just went out the window.

Day one, it just took its toll,
so I definitely feel like

I'm in hell right now.

How's the head feeling?

It's pounding really bad
right now.

- If we can find some willow--
- I did not see willow.

In the willow bark,
it has basically like

an aspirin trait.

- Oh, yeah?
- Yeah.

You can tell this is willow
by these long, skinny leaves

right here.

Um...

And basically, what I'm gonna do
is I'm gonna try

to just take some of this kind
of supple bark that's up here

and just kind of shave
some of it off.

Just like that.

OK, girl.

We're gonna administer some

willow bark to you, OK?
Bush medicine.

- OK.
- But it is a suppository.

- No!
- So we're gonna
have to...

It's-- it's a little rough.

Don't laugh.
I don't wanna hurt your head.

Just kind of, you know,
just take what you want

and just kind of munch on it
and, you know--

- Like actually chew it up

- Don't swallow it.

- Just kind of chew it up.

Yeah, and then suck
on the juices and just

let that kind of settle
in there,

and just, you know,
take it as you can handle it.

And we do have
fresh water, so...

try to get some water in.

he found some willow bark.

After now about an hour,
hour and a half of having it,

I can tell the difference
in my headache.

In 15 minutes from now,
as that sun gets lower down,

it's going to turn into a bit
of a mosquito wild ground.

So we are going to do
what we can to keep

these mosquitoes at bay.

I'm hoping I get
a little sleep tonight.

We set our shelter on top of...

some sort of--
- Mites.

...devil mite creatures.

We don't know what it is.
We're getting bit...

um...

by something that keeps us
from all being able to actually

have a quality night's sleep.

You could swat 'em,
you could smack 'em,

but it doesn't seem to go away.

They must be literally damn
near microscopic.

There's no getting rid of it.

There's no scaring
whatever it is off.

You could feel
the welts starting to build up.

We have, I mean,

barely slept a wink,
and, um...

it is-- it's frustrating.

Not gonna lie,
the thought that I could

probably walk out of here
and definitely be home sleeping

before daylight
crosses your mind.

It's insane.

Here on day two.

I'm just going
for a little walk here.

We made it through the night.

It was a rough one.
Didn't sleep very well.

Definitely had
some biting insects.

I say "insects," we don't even
know what it is, really.

Because you can't see 'em.

I think I got, what?
I think four minutes of sleep.

Welcome to "Naked and Afraid."

Yeah.

What the [bleep] is that?

It's a tiny, tiny
little red ant.

- It is a little tiny [bleep].
- Yeah.

That welt is 10 times the size
of the thing that left it.

These little microscopic ants
out here

sting like a damn wasp.

- But if you look right in,
there's a couple.
- Oh, yeah.

To improve our night's
sleep tonight,

we're gonna pull
some palms out.

And this fire is gonna be

stretched into there.

And we're gonna start just
trying to nuke

all of those little
ground bugs in there.

Then once everything has been
burned hard, just white ash,

bugs don't like white ash
because it ends up

making them feel
like they're in a fire.

So because of that,

they will usually
leave us alone.

Burn, fire ants!

Looks pretty damn good.

Anything worth doing
is worth doing right.

Headed to get our water pot
that's cooled down

in the water.
We're thirsty.

Hoping that we're gonna find
some food.

There is a water snake here.

Almost right off the bat,

and then just hit them as hard
as you can on top of the head.

So I get a little bit panicked,

'cause I've never
done this before.

I know there's a handful
of snakes out here that are

non-venomous, and plenty
of 'em are venomous.

Harder for me to tell,
'cause, like,

kind of a snake's a snake,
and I don't get too close to it

to be able to tell
the difference.

just a couple inches.

letting go of that fear

that holds you back

a huge appearance,

so we were getting ate alive.

Yeah, we gotta make sure
we smoke our fire out,

...mosquitoes are here.

And my bed sheet during
the night is now needed.

So we are hanging it up

and gonna spread it out
across the three of us.

The buzzing of the mosquitoes
never end.

Really aggravating.

Even with both fires,

it is not deterring
the mosquitoes.

It's not good.

Yeah, tonight's gonna be
a long night.

I am itching.

So second night,
how'd you guys sleep?

I still did not sleep well.

I got maybe an hour or two
of sleep.

Yeah, I didn't sleep
all that great.

I'm worried because
a lot of times the bugs

and everything's kind
of distracting you from really

calming down and going to sleep.

And I know it could
potentially take you out.

It is just--

thick with bugs and mosquitoes
and flies and biting flies.

Yeah, they're out there heavy.

See if you can see, I've got
a lot of mosquito bites

just all over my forehead.

My arm is just ate up with...

bug bites to my legs
and then my feet.

Yeah, I'm just riddled...

with bites.

All of the flies are
right here with us today.

We wanna thank everybody
for showing up.

There may not be
any mosquitoes

because of fly competition.
- Yeah, they're intimidated.

I don't know if you can see
these gnats,

but if you can,

imagine your entire face being
engulfed in little tiny gnats

going in your ear,
your nostrils, up your eyes.

10 challenges, this one
is the least comfortable

that I've ever had.

I could go for some food.
I know y'all can.

That's a South delicacy.

It's a lot of work to get
a heart of palm.

It involves chopping
a tree down to get

the small little center.

What I'm gonna do here,

is get a little swamp cabbage
out of here.

But inside it is
a lot of nutrients,

carbohydrates, and sugars.

Cole, oh my gosh,
there's two squirrels

right up here in the tree.

We're gonna go kill
a squirrel real quick.

This is the normal lifestyle
for me,

creeping around the woods
just like I'm doing.

Growing up, I lived pretty much
in a trailer park

on the east side
of Austin, Texas.

One way for us to save money,
we were always eating

wild protein.

It wasn't until I started
dating that I realized like,

"Oh, most people get
all of their food

from the grocery store."

Cole has spotted a squirrel.

Right there.

Oh.

You had that arrow
still up there.

You got him!
Wow!

Oh, my gosh!
Yeah.

I'm glad he got him.

And you could put him out

quickly so it wasn't
a slow death.

Big day.

Matt was cutting the heart
of palm.

Going in the pot.

One squirrel for three people
is not a lot.

However, there's enough
complexity in this cabbage palm

to actually make us feel full.

Out here in the wild,
we don't get a lot of veggies.

- We thank you, squirrel.
- Yes, thank you.

- It's the rule of life.

I tell you what,
this is the most tender squirrel

I've ever had.

All these years,
obviously I've had partners

that have got food,

but I've actually

never, through the last
10 challenges, had a partner

shoot stuff with a bow
and bring me dinner.

It is a, uh,
it's a pretty special feeling.

It feels almost like in a way
like you pass a torch.

I'm one of the first people
to ever feed Matt

with a bow and arrow
on a challenge.

And...

...that's huge.

I'm excited.

a part of this.

I love it.

It is the morning
of day five,

and we are already very much
a really close-knit team.

We don't even go
to the waterhole

without each other.

On the map,
there shows another pond.

We should go check it out,
too, while we're here.

That's about a six,
maybe almost seven-foot

alligator in this little pond.

It's mating season,
and it's kill or be killed.

We're either gonna get
snapped up by one of 'em,

or we're gonna snap one of 'em.

I want one of those
things bad.

He just popped right back up.

That's about seven foot.

Yep, he's doing a turn.
He might stretch to eight.

We've got our first gator
down here in the Everglades.

And I'm so stoked,
because that's all I've talked

about is I'm gonna
kill a gator.

With this hook,
you throw it over his back.

We're gonna hook it and you're
just gonna feel a tiny,

tiny bit of weight.

And then just really
hard jerk back,

and then rodeo begins.

That's a seven
to eight foot gator.

They are dangerous.

It could seriously injure us
or possibly de-limb one of us.

So it's gonna be my job
to lasso this sucker,

get it around his mouth.

He will get up to the shore
and fight and death roll

and go crazy, and then Tori
can give a knife chop

to the back of the head.

I've got mixed emotions on this.

I'm super excited,
'cause, like, this is gonna be

awesome, like, to live,
to tell this story, you know?

But also nervous, 'cause I--
I like my arms.

I'm pretty attached to them,
or my feet, and I would hate

for anyone to get hurt
um, doing this.

I can feel the rope just
burning blisters in my hands,

and I will not let go.

But we're only 10, 15 foot
from him, and gators can run

in a short burst
35 miles per hour.

What we wanna do is
tire him out a little bit.

whole thing with palm fronds,

have a small fire on the bottom,

Smoking it and curing it
preserves it for a long time

to where we can eat it
for a couple weeks.

And if we don't stay vigilant,

we might step on a snake,
step on a gator.

This extraction walk is
absolutely up there

with some of the toughest.

That's how you thrive
in hell right there.

Oh, I'm already
getting teary-eyed.

You better save it

'cause it's gonna be rough.

To get to their extraction
point six miles away,

Matt, Tori, and Cole
will have to navigate

the dense Everglades forests
littered with thorns

and territorial water moccasins

and trek through large swaths
of six-foot-tall sawgrass

and marshy swamp land
flooded by recent rains

where 500-pound alligators
wait for their next meal.

It's freaking tight in here.

Yeah, it's real tight.

I hope my navigation skills
are on point.

This is a big area.

It's wet.
It's boggy.

There's all the snakes,
panthers, the alligators,

you know, all the things
that could harm us.

It's imperative
that we stick together

and we work as a team,

keep our heads on a swivel.

Just one step at a time is
gonna get us

that much closer
to the extraction.

I mean, it's so thick,
it's hard to even

tell which direction
we're headed.
