(Glory of Special Forces)

(This series is Shanghai's major literary and artistic project)

(Episode 43)

-Pei Ta Yan. -Mao Lang.

-Su Jian Fan. -Ren Xiao Chuan.

Reporting for duty!

Xiao Yun Jie, Yan Po Yue, Guo Xiao Xiao.

About face!

I know that over the past few months,

you all have been working hard.

You have overcome all kinds of difficulties,

and have improved a lot

academically and physically.

The higher-ups

have expressed very high expectations for you,

saying that you are the elite of the elite of armed police forces.

However,

Instructor Ai has reported certain situation to me.

And you know what situation I'm talking about.

I won't repeat it here.

I would like to stress that

healthy competition is

the catalyst to maintain the driving force to move forward,

but teamwork

is equally important.

Warrior Competition

will be held next month.

Our detachment has received an honourable task

to select personnel to represent China.

The detachment has decided that

the seven of you

plus Xu Yang

will form a participating training team.

-Pei Ta Yan. -Yes, sir!

You're appointed as team captain.

Yes, sir!

-Yan Po Yue. -Yes, sir!

You're appointed as vice captain.

Yes, sir!

As the captain and vice captain,

you both have to play an exemplary role.

I hope

every team member can perform your respective duty

and coordinate with each other.

A month later,

I want to see a brand new Cheetah team.

Is that clear?

Yes, sir!

Captain Lu Tu

will personally lead the team during this competition.

Next, he'll tell you the details.

In line with this competition,

your studies at

Special Police Academy will be suspended for now.

You will start doing intensive training.

Based on the situation of the competition,

we have simulated the environment,

altitude and even humidity of this competition

in all aspects

so that you can adapt to it in advance.

Therefore, I hope you can help each other

and form a united whole as soon as possible.

I want you to focus on improving your weaknesses.

Also,

the event this year will be different from the past.

The participated countries

may join forces or share information.

So, I want you all to work on

your language skills.

Particularly, don't think that you can excuse yourself

just because your teammate can speak it.

-Xu Yang. -Yes, sir.

Bring the gift here.

Yes, sir.

Well, go on.

Open it.

Listen up,

the weapons at the competition

are issued by the organizers on site.

Therefore, based on our experience,

we've prepared customized exported gun especially for you.

It will allow you to get familiar with it in advance.

Moreover, in order for us to have better chance at winning,

with the approval of the higher-ups,

Special Police Academy

has assigned us an interpreter

and intelligence analyst.

She'll join us

and travel with us.

-Report, sir. -Enter.

Gu Meng will come with our team.

Yes, sir.

Alright now, put it away.

An hour later,

pack up your belongings

and gather in front of the school building

to depart to the training site.

-Dismissed. -Yes, sir!

What's the matter?

Detachment Chief,

I'd like to speak with you alone.

Xu Yang,

come on.

What's the matter?

You feel bitter that I assigned you

as vice captain?

I won't dare to.

So, you think

those new cheetahs are not as physically adept as you?

You're worried that they would be dead weight?

They are outstanding,

we can learn from them.

But when it comes to accepting them, I feel a little resistance.

It's understandable.

Yan Po Yue,

sometimes people

can't make the choice they are comfortable with,

they have to make the right choice.

During a battle

many years ago,

I was seriously wounded

and needed an emergency transfusion.

I have Type A blood,

but due to the poor conditions on the battlefield,

there was only Type O blood for me.

Although O blood is the universal blood,

there are antibodies in the plasma.

If too much of it is transfused,

the body will have a rejection reaction.

At that time,

my body could not accept the fresh blood.

By the time the battle was over,

I almost died.

But I'm fine now.

They are all inside my body serving me.

So that I can stand here and talk to you without any problem.

Yan Po Yue,

accepting Pei Ta Yan and the others

is the same as transfusing blood to you.

If you refuse the transfusion,

you will die,

If you accept it,

you will go through a rejection reaction that is more painful than death.

But you will live.

As long as you live,

everything can be changed.

I just received an order.

I'm leaving soon.

Now,

I'm here to bid your farewell.

Well, soldiers

are awaiting orders at all times.

Report, ma'am!

Come in.

Instructor Ai,

I just received an order.

I'm leaving soon.

I stopped by to say goodbye.

Bye.

Captain...

I just want to say I think I see a desert.

This year's Warrior Competition

set the competition area in the desert

to simulate the most brutal frontline battlefield of counter-terrorism.

Desert area

is open and exposed.

Since it is difficult to find a reference object,

it's easy to get disoriented.

The loose land can affect movement.

It's lack of water resource,

and there is a large temperature difference between day and night.

There is frequent hot sandstorms.

It's difficult to achieve tactical suddenness.

The few of us are more experienced in desert combat.

So, I believe that...

Captain,

Xiao Xiao,

we've been here before.

We are familiar.

Okay. Your stability training is over.

You'll now begin tactical shooting training.

(The pre-competition training)

(just freed us from books and tests.)

(The old cheetahs are bursting with energy)

(to vent out all our grievances we've suffered)

(at school on the endless training.)

(We want to tell all the cheetah cubs)

(Cheetah is Cheetah.)

(Cheetah is the most indestructible team,)

(baptized by battles.)

Marhaban.

Marhaban.

Marhaban.

It means Hello in Arabic.

How are you doing?

It's so hard.

It's 11:30pm now.

You have a training at 6am tomorrow.

How long do you still need?

I need to go through every part of the gun,

and then recalibrate it.

Then,

I have to install new accessories.

It's not as simple as dismantling and assembling a gun.

Regardless,

you need to have enough rest.

How about this?

You have two more hours.

-Report, sir. -Enter.

Captain Lu, I'd like to request for more bullets for my extra practice at night.

Who permits you to touch my gun?

It's just regular adjustment and maintenance.

You think I can't do it myself?

Xiao Xiao,

Mao Lang isn't just an expert sniper.

He's also a firearms expert.

He is very knowledgeable in both domestic and foreign,

light and heavy weapons.

What did you do to it?

I went through your past sniper test results.

I noticed a pattern.

At a range of more than 400 meters,

your shot always show a rightward dispersion.

This dispersion

increases with distance.

Then, I pulled the footage of your test

and found the problem.

It's the trigger pull.

The effect of trigger pull on shooting accuracy

increases with the range.

Therefore,

I adjusted the trigger pull of your gun

from the original 4.5 pounds

to the current 3.8 pounds.

This is a sniper rifle,

but also a recon rifle.

Now its trigger pull

isn't just good for long-range sniping,

it's even better for close range assault.

Feel it.

Try it.

Every weapon has its own story

and its secret.

Their appearance may look the same,

but the degree of wear and tear of each part inside,

the twists of each screw,

are different.

This is why

the accuracy of each gun is slightly different.

And this tiny difference

is just like the Achilles heel,

it's fatal on the battlefield.

The gun has its weaknesses,

but it's people, not guns, that win the battle.

We all have a break-in period with the gun we use.

From adapting to getting used to it,

we keep improving the accuracy

to avoid this problem.

You are not wrong.

But that is for people to get used to the gun.

What I want to do

is for the gun to get used to its shooter.

No matter who picks it up,

the shooter will be able to aim at his target instantly.

Aiming system in the future

is computerized.

It'll rely on scientific computing,

rather than personal perception.

Achieving the overall physical consistency

through personalized adjustment,

that is what I'm after.

The lunch boxes have names on them.

Find your name.

(Name: Xiao Yun Jie)

This dish is awesome.

I've been craving beef lately.

Yan,

come here. Sit with me.

What has gotten to him again?

Forget it. Let him be.

Xiao Xiao, let me see your dishes.

You got quite many dishes.

How come none of it is the same as mine?

It's fine. We can share our dishes.

Okay.

What are you doing?

Do not share your dishes.

This is yours.

This is too much.

Come on, share it with me.

Eat only the dishes that are given to you.

You have to finish it.

This is an order from your superior.

Whose order is it?

Mine.

Is there a problem?

Captain Lu,

the dishes are quite abundant,

but it's too much.

It doesn't make sense to finish it all by myself.

Sit down first.

The rice and dishes in front of you may make little sense to you.

But it's actually the results of many people's efforts.

Our kitchen squad's kitchen

has almost become a lab now.

The ingredients for each of your meals

are carefully selected and weighed

before they are cooked.

But why?

We don't mind eating big pot rice.

-Pei Ta Yan. -Yes, sir.

Tell them

how all these meals are prepared.

Yes, sir.

I pulled everyone's

health information from Cheetah.

Based on each of your height, weight, age,

gender, allergens and physical indicators,

and taking into account of your years of service in the army,

and your primary duty in the team,

we made a personalized diet plan for you.

Xiao Yun Jie,

you just became automatic rifleman, right?

In a combat situation,

in addition to carrying a machine gun,

you have to carry a lot of ammunition as well.

You need to have great weight-bearing ability.

And if you encounter an encounter battle,

you need to get to the best concealed firing position in a short time

to set up the machine gun to suppress fire.

So, your need is to build up

explosive strength and muscle groups with uniform weight-bearing capacity.

In terms of diet,

it means you require a lot of protein

and vitamin B2.

So you need to eat more cucumbers, potatoes,

organic cauliflowers.

For meat, you need to eat more beef and pork loin.

As for fish, you can have prawns,

carps and eels.

Fruit should be mainly bananas, oranges.

In addition, you are now in a period of muscle growth,

so extra egg whites

are added for you.

Then, my diet plan

is focused on enhancing vision and stamina, right?

Yes.

Your food mainly replenish your vitamin A,

vitamins B1, B2, B6 and B12.

And high carbs that

increase glycogen reserves.

And you need to avoid eating greasy

and indigestible food.

The cooking method is mainly boiling and steaming.

We'll juice all the fruit for you.

This facilitates the absorption of sugar.

So good.

Xiao, that's a good one.

Go up, go up.

Harder.

A little lower.

You're enjoying this. Get up. My turn.

How is it?

It's okay.

Let me tell you,

there is an art in massaging.

Our skin is thick,

we need to use the strength of our elbow.

Otherwise, it won't press through.

The muscles won't be able to relax.

You're talking too much.

Just tell me if it's working or not.

-Yes, it is working indeed. -Feels different, right?

This is a muscle relaxation technique I learned from Su today.

Now I get to practise it on you.

Hands off me.

You called him Su?

What an affectionate address.

Su.

Wait.

Let me see your razor.

Looks nice. When did you buy this?

I borrowed it from Pei Ta Yan.

Xu Yang,

I see what's happening here.

You've been captured by

his sugar-coated bullets.

This is for the cleanliness of my appearance.

Pei Ta Yan said

it is not only about the appearance,

but it also represents the self-discipline of a soldier.

Otherwise, we would look bad when we're abroad.

Since when did you become so obedient?

You listen to whatever he said.

He has got a good point.

And you have to admit that they really are good.

Like today, after Mao Lang finished adjusting the guns,

our shots were indeed more accurate than before.

They have studied their respective fields thoroughly,

and then, put their strength into good use to work with each other.

They are different from common squad of soldiers.

They are highly educated.

It's true that they are stronger than us.

Fine, they are strong.

What do you mean they are stronger than us?

Besides,

I was afraid that they weren't strong.

It's good that this is a challenge for us.

It's worth

for us to work hard to surpass them.

Listen to that,

now that's ambition.

Save it. I don't want to waste my time with you anymore.

Where are you going?

I'm going to look for Yan.

It's so late now. I need to check on him.

By the way,

what you just said to me,

you mustn't say it in front of him.

Got it. Don't worry.

Return that razor.

It's true that they are stronger than us.

It's rare to see that

you're not memorizing foreign language or training.

What are you looking at?

What is there to see?

This is good.

You should relax a little.

As I said it before,

don't strain yourself too much.

The pear is sweet.

Pear.

As a shooter,

you need to enhance your speed and explosive strength.

You should eat more

carbs that are easily absorbed,

as well as vitamin B, vitamin C,

phosphorus and protein.

Like the brown rice you ate today...

You're learning. That's good.

Keep going.

Actually, I think

that Pei guy made a good point.

Our training volume is super high now.

Our nutrition really needs to keep up with it.

You think they're strong.

That's a fact.

You can admit it.

I thought we were just growing up,

but compared to them,

it feels like we are already old.

Veterans have the advantage of being veterans.

Like you said,

no matter how good the equipment is, it needs someone to operate it.

I just think that

it's a good thing that we complement each other.

Stop competing with them.

I've stopped long ago.

It's just that when I looked at them,

I often wonder

who can represent the future of Cheetah?

Us

or Pei Ta Yan?

You see,

you're still competing with him.

Ta Yan.

We'll see who can fly higher at the end.

Brave soldiers,

I have before me

teams from special forces of 16 countries.

On behalf of the general assembly,

I want to extend to you a warm welcome

to the 12th

Warrior Special Forces International Competition.

Our event is

one of the leading special forces competition all over the world.

It started in 2009, and since then,

it has drawn wide attention internationally.

And it has also generated a positive impact.

Counter-terrorism is becoming more and more complex

and tense all around the world.

And special forces

are a key component of the combat against terrorism.

This year's contest will be based

on skills.

The Warrior Competition

is a collective effort carried out by the combat team.

And the project designed is based on real life situation.

I wish you a great performance.

And I declare

that the 12th Warrior Special Forces International Competition

is now open!

What did the chairman say on stage?

Do you guys understand?

His English pronunciation isn't standard.

He speaks with an accent. I couldn't understand it.

Don't communicate if you don't understand. Talk less.

Okay.

Honey, are you here for the game too?

My dear, the sand is too hard.

Their English sounds standard.

I think I understand them. They're saying girls can't do well here.

Right?

Come on, honey.

Bye.

See you next time.

This communication is good, better than talking.

I'm showing you an example.

Buddy!

Xie!

Hi! Hi!

Sergei, how are you?

Okay, okay. Whatever you say.

This is Yan Po Yue. My other good friend.

Good.

This is Sergei. I met him in the last competition.

He can't speak English too. They are my friends.

-I mean... -What is he doing?

This is the way they display affection. At least he didn't try to kiss you.

I think she doesn't like me.

Yes, yes. How have you been?

Did you come with the same members from last time?

This time, did you come here with your old friends?

Okay, okay! Very good!

Okay! Whatever you say!

Okay. We need to go take a rest.

See you later.

Good!

Okay, okay. No problem. See you!

Who was that guy?

Didn't I tell you already?

Sergei, from Country R.

I met him during the last Warrior Competition.

You guys have no idea what each other are talking about.

-Yet you seem like you had fun. -What fun did I have?

His smile was so awkward.

Xiao, so he's an old friend.

More like an old rival.

Hold on.

What's wrong?

Is this really necessary?

Clear to go. Next.

Seriously.

I suspect that there is something on you.

Come on. I just took a shower.

A bug.

This is such a dirty move.

I'm going to report them to the organizing committee.

It's useless.

They will deny it.

The moment we stepped foot in here,

the game has already begun.

No wonder Xiao Xiao said don't communicate and talk less.

Sergei's affection was all fake.

He's very cunning.

He's the strategist in their team.

You'll see.

I can't believe you found it so soon.

By the way, Yan,

the female officer next to the podium just now looks quite pretty.

What country do you think she's from?

Have you never seen a woman before?

I'm just initiating a chit-chat.

South Korea?

Doesn't look like it.

Japan?

No.

Southeast Asia?

Her name is Katherine Hu.

Chinese-born.

She belongs to Country S's special forces,

proficient in mountain warfare and sniper warfare.

In special forces circle, she is a famous expert in mountain warfare.

Sounds tough.

We should let her fight Xiao Xiao then.

Am I right, Xiao Xiao?

If she joins the combat,

she will be a very tough opponent.

She has a nickname in the field,

White Phantom.

Yeah, right. I can also call her Black Fear.

Hi there, beautiful ghost.

Hi, Jason.

Are we going to meet on the battlefield?

Maybe.

I wish don't.

As soon as the beast lays his eyes on the beauty,

the beast has already lost.

For the honour of Country A, you won't.

Five consecutive champions.

You cannot let it go.

The organizing committee has kept their lips tight

on the content of this competition.

Only two things can be determined so far.

First, the difficulty of the event is increased.

Second, it's closely similar to the actual combat against terrorism.

Therefore,

scope of the competition content will be expanded to the maximum.

Like hostage rescue, alley warfare,

combat in confined spaces,

precision shooting, obstacle-crossing shooting,

special rescue, rapid transfer,

all of these will be involved.

Instead of guessing the possible content,

we should pay more attention to our opponents.

There are only two opponents that really

need our attention.

Country A, claimed to be strongest military in the world,

is also the team that caused us

to end up as a runner-up in the last competition.

The other one is Country R.

Country R has been defeated over the past few years,

but they have bounced back.

Their strength is increasing rapidly. They're a tough opponent too.

Huzzah!

Huzzah!

Huzzah!

Chinese team,

ready so soon?

We get ready all the time.

Announcement of the game.

At 7am today,

a passenger plane was hijacked by armed terrorists

over S Country.

S Country sent fighter jet to land the plane.

This organization has assembled

a group of mercenaries from all over the world.

They're well trained and have rich combat experience.

Recently, they have carried out a series of terrorist attacks

to show their will and mentality.

The plane will land at the Joint Command Center

military airfield in 20 minutes.

There are a total of 33 passengers

and five crew members on board.

Unknown number of terrorist.

Unknown purpose.

We should do all the best.

Thank you, ma'am.

Did you understand the mission just now?

-Yes, sir. -Yes, sir!

You understood?

Tell me then,

what did she say?

Hostage, right?

Plane.

Airplane.

Anti-hijacking plane. It's obvious.

All you got are two key words.

What about the number of passengers on board, number of crew members,

the number of terrorists?

33 passengers on board.

Five crew members.

Number of terrorists unknown.

This is the only valuable information she provided.

The negotiator is currently talking to the terrorists,

but they are playing hardball.

The negotiation isn't going well.

According to the setting,

the plane that was hijacked

is a modified An-26 passenger aircraft.

This is the interior construction map of the plane.

Goodness.

It's all in Russian.

That's right.

Prior to the exercise,

all projects are kept confidential.

The organizer only gave us drawings marked in Russian.

Can you translate it into Chinese?

English is fine too.

It'll take 40 minutes to translate it into Chinese.

We only have 10 minutes to work out our operation plan.

Stand up. I'll take it from here.

This is a modified An-26B

short-to-medium-haul aircraft designed by Antonov

of the former Soviet Union.

Its fuselage is 23.8 meters long,

its wingspan is 29.2 meters,

and its wing height is 8.5 meters.

There is an aircrew hatch,

which is 1.4 meters high

and 0.6 meters wide.

For the first day of the competition,

each team will have to assault

a hijacked passenger plane.

On board of the plane,

there are 33 passengers,

but the number of terrorists

is unknown.

The score and the tactical point

will be based on the faster the completion time,

the higher number of terrorists killed or captured,

the lower number of injuries or casualties among the hostages,

and the lower number of team members eliminated.

-Understood? -Yes, sir!

Good luck!

The increase in difficulty from

previous anti-hijacking drills is

first, we are not familiar with

old model Soviet aircraft like this.

Second, it was flown in from other country and forced landed.

We must take into account the factors of that other country.

Third,

we are still unclear about the terrorists' ultimate purpose.

Any opinion?

This plane's cargo hold is very large.

Can we sneak into the cargo hold from the bottom of the plane,

and break in through the floor door and other hatches

at the same time?

We are still uncertain about the modification of this aircraft.

An-26 was designed to be

a standard military cargo plane,

but the aircraft we're dealing with here

could be a passenger plane,

or a transport plane,

or an airdrop plane.

Therefore,

this idea isn't feasible.

Gu Meng,

when the event starts,

return to the command centre immediately and use the laser microphone

to eavesdrop on the whole process of other teams' mission.

I need you to collect as much as possible

all the instructions, communication,

number and frequency of shots fired

by the other teams during the mission,

including the number of meals and cutlery

given to the hostages and terrorists.

Filter out the most useful information.

-Yes, sir. -Wait.

Don't you think this is a little nasty?

Vice captain,

this isn't a sporting event,

this is war.

The first priority of special warfare is to gather as much

accurate intelligence as possible before the battle.

We split into three groups!

Two assault teams, one sniper team.

-Team A, Pei Ta Yan, Ren Xiao Chuan... -Yes, sir!

-Su Jian Fan. -Yes, sir!

In charge of security gate break-in.

Team B, Yan Po Yue.

Yes, sir.

-Xiao Yun Jie. -Yes, sir.

-Xu Yang. -Yes, sir.

In charge of cargo hold break-in.

-Sniper team. Guo Xiao Xiao. -Yes, sir.

-Mao Lang. -Yes, sir.

Cover both sides outside the cabin.

Is that clear, everyone?

Yes, sir!

The combat readiness time is over.

The R team goes first.

The other teams gather.

And the tactical discussion stopped.

Copy.

Don't move!

Go!

Go!

Go!

If you don't get back, I'll kill him!

I'll give you one minute to leave this plane

if you want to stay alive.

I'm not joking, get back!

One minute.

There are over 30 people on the plane.

If you don't get back,

I'll kill everyone per minute.

I'll kill everyone!

With what?

The air in your hand?

Forced attack!

This is the determination as a fighting nation.

2 minutes and 30 seconds. They're fast.

Their method is rough,

the result can't be gentle.

There is no way our country's pilots won't put up a fight!

Loser!

From breaking into the cabin to killing every terrorist,

it took them less than five minutes.

They have

broken records.

Be patient.

See what the organizing committee will say.

Sir.

I declare

that Team R has completed the mission

in 4 minutes and 34 seconds.

All four terrorists were killed.

And there were no casualties on the side of the team members.

However,

there were four injured hostages.

And among them, one got a broken arm.

Our medical team examined

the passenger with broken arm. And found out

that his injuries was caused by the team members.

Also, Team R has used anaesthetics

on the injured passengers.

This is extremely dangerous.
