catchphrases in WWE history.

Now, far more than just words, a
catchphrase can come to define a

larger -than -life persona. It becomes
their signature, makes them memorable.

not to mention marketable, and perhaps
more than anything acts as sort of a

rallying cry that fires up fans and
connects us to the superstars.

So, what do you guys want to talk about?

What happens at Between the Rings may
not be the most memorable thing all the

time. What is always memorable, though,
is a really good catchphrase.

Catchphrases are the best way for an
audience to latch on to a performer.

but it's also very good to let it come

I'll give you the origin story of the

New Day Rocks chant. I dug into my
cheerleading bag from college. So I

well, we should make our own cadence so
that everybody knows that when they're

doing this, it's specifically for New
Day. Once you have that connection, now

they're invested in you.

Man, yeet means like, yeah, no, maybe,
hello. Like, man, what up, Uzi?

Let me hear you say, yeet!

Yeet!

We've all been saying it.

It just caught on with me, apparently.

Man, I'm in there, you know, hitting the
punches, and they're like, yeet, yeet,

yeet, yeet.

It came organically. I didn't force
nothing. It was just there.

I was like, what?

So the street privacy catchphrase, we
want to smoke, is actually derived from,

was a huge fan of The Rock, so like,
it's a way of saying, just bring it.

Just bring it.

It's basically saying that we want to
smoke, we want these problems, and bring

them on, because we ain't running from
the task at hand.

Here's what I think.

It doesn't matter what you think, man.

What makes catchphrases so special to
me.

It is definitely something people look
forward to. They feel included and they

feel that they are actually part of the
show.

in the air and they do it with you.

I'm a big 90s movie fan, specifically
Pauly Shore movies. And Encino Man, he

the shoosh.

And I was doing a promo one night and
the crowd was kind of getting on us.

And to kind of quiet them down, I just
pulled it out.

You could just even feel and see people
in the audience, like, respond to it.

And so from that moment, I was like,
we're going to keep this thing. We're

to stick it out.

You never know what's going to stick.

You never know what is going to catch on
with people.

Literally anything can be a catchphrase.

It can be a sentence. Now can you dig
that?

It can be a word.

Sometimes these catchphrases, they
become their own beast.

We just got two words for you.

Every kid at least once told their
parents or a teacher to suck it.

The very next week, 316 signs

to imitate.

Ooh, yeah is something that I repeated
non -stop as a

kid, chasing my sisters around, chasing
the dog around.

Everyone's at home doing it. You know,

As the Dudley boys, when these guys were
in the ring, it meant one thing, wood.

More precisely, their opponents going
through wood. We all knew when Bubba Ray

Get the tables!

Some poor soul would end up at the
centerpiece.

What are you going to do tonight when
you are standing in the middle of a ring

and 20 ,000 screaming people say, Devon!

The crowd reaction to that is just
freaking

surreal.

One day, in a

ring, I don't even know when this
happened. I just looked at Devon and I

get the tables.

Much like a lot of other things that
catch on.

Just a spur of the moment thing that
comes off the top of your head.

Put the tables away and

stretch good cheer.

Not only do you have the fun of getting
the yell, get the table, but then you

know you're going to see someone go
through that table.

of God, did you see that?

With one motion.

An entire arena would signal for Devon
to get the table. I think it was really

testament to what they brought to the
industry.

Me and Devon did not invent putting
people through tables.

Me and Devon made it cool.

They most certainly did, and it goes to
show that the best catchphrases are born

organically. Although, our next
catchphrase may have been born

You see, WWE superstar Ron Simmons was
known to mutter damn to himself anytime

something didn't go his way in the ring.

Well, fans in the first few rows at live
events could hear this, and before

long, they began to chant damn during
matches.

And, you know.

Once the WWE universe gets a hold of
something, the rest is history.

Damn.

Damn. Damn.

Damn.

So let me tell you something about Ron
Simmons, right?

First, worldly recognized African
-American world champion.

He has realized his dream to become the
best in the world.

One of the greatest tag team specialists
of all time.

The APA.

The baddest of the bad.

All -American in college football.

He's in the College Football Hall of
Fame. He's in the WWE Hall of Fame. But

some odd reason, despite all those
accolades, the one thing he is known for

than anything is one word.

Bam!

There might be...

No one better at summation in a single
word than Ron Simmons.

I mean, he figured out one word that can
let you know everything

about what's happening in a room.

More than anything, I thought what made
it catch on with its popularity is my

voice and the way it's being said.

If you don't feel the uh right here,
don't even try to say it.

This is so funny, and his comedic timing
with it.

Perfect. Always.

If you were seeing two people interact
backstage, whenever you felt that, like,

there's some tension at all, this is a
bit awkward between them two.

God almighty.

You are the tooth fairy, the world's
largest tooth fairy. Some craziness will

happening around him. He wouldn't even
be in the room sometimes.

Like, he would just magically appear.

It was so exciting to just kind of watch
in the corners of the screen thinking,

is he coming? He always made you wait
like that extra one or two seconds and

then he would hit you with the payoff.

And as soon as he would say it, it's
just like instant joy.

You never knew when it was coming and it
got you every time.

That to me was my favorite part. Just
seeing who he was saying it to, their

reactions when they would jump.

It was so versatile.

It was so easy to use in pretty much
every situation imaginable.

it can be an upset damn. It can be a
happy damn. It can be an angry damn.

Many variations of damn. And I think Ron
Simmons has perfected all of them.

Damn is a word we all say, but we don't

There's something different about it
coming off of that man's lips.

Hall of Famer Kurt Angle.

Now, your Olympic hero was known to tout
his many achievements. And no matter

how annoying it would be to some of us
fans, it's hard to contest the wrestling

machine's claims, especially when the
man speaking punctuates his statement

such a clear validation of the truth.

Kurt Angle, the most celebrated real
athlete in WWF history.

Nobody has taken to the world of sports
entertainment from outside of it the way

Kurt Angle did.

It's no surprise that he's an incredible
athlete. He won an Olympic medal with a

broken freaking neck. But it's the fact
that on that first night, he was able to

grab a microphone and tell the audience,
you do not boo an Olympic gold

medalist. Oh, it's true. It's true.

I'm the best in the world. It's true.

And immediately you knew exactly who you
were dealing with. Nobody wants to be

told something and then have the person
brag about it. I might as well be the

and it would just rile people up.

And I've seen rednecks all around the
