JON: Previously, on The Amazing Race Canada,

six teams boarded a mystery bus to Kitchener-Waterloo.

AARTHY: Why are there no windows?

JOANNE: Life is a surprise, man. SARAH: [laughs]

JON: ...where, for some racers, it was a whole new ballgame...

SAM: That is very tiring.

JON: ...while others found themselves trapped

between a rock and their hardware.

AARTHY: Babe, stop! I told you this a hundred times.

JON: Dave and Irina did the math,

and this added up to their third win of the race.

JON: You guys are team number one.

DAVE: Yes!

JON: At a culinary faceoff...

JOANNE: Ah, pizza!

JON: ...Lauren and Joanne cheesed off Trish and Amy...

JOANNE: We just crushed one pizza,

and that's all that matters.

JON: ...and answered for it later,

when the gravity of the situation

nearly forced them out of the race.

LAUREN: This is like my literal nightmare.

JOANNE: Lauren, it's okay.

JON: But in the end, it was the moms

who just couldn't go the distance.

JON: Trish and Amy, you've been eliminated from the race.

AMY: You know what? I have no regrets.

TRISH: Me either.

JON: Now, five teams remain, as they race to win

the all-new 2019 Chevrolet Blazer RS,

a once-in-a-lifetime trip for two around the world,

a quarter of a million dollars cash,

and The Amazing Race Canada.

JON: This is Kitchener-Waterloo, a community known for science,

technology, and innovation.

Today, these twin cities

will act as the eighth starting point,

as five teams battle it out for a chance to win it all

on The Amazing Race Canada.

Dave and Irina won the last leg of the race,

and will depart first at 3:29 am.

DAVE: Let's do this!

IRINA: Ride the rails to La Malbaie, Quebec!

DAVE: Yes!

JON: Teams will now travel east, by train,

to the peaceful town of La Malbaie,

part of Quebec's Charlevoix region,

located along the shores of the St. Lawrence River.

[whale call]

IRINA: Woo! Let's go!

Quebec!

DAVE: La Malbaie, it's in the middle of Quebec.

Most people don't speak English,

and it's a massive advantage for us.

We've won three legs so far, and today's the fourth.

IRINA: Well, Dave is very competitive, obviously,

because he's a fighter, but I'm not good under pressure.

IRINA: Are you kidding me? Oh my god!

[sighs] I wanna puke.

Oh, I hate this race so much!

IRINA: Dave really motivates me to push and keep going.

DAVE: Quebec, here we are, baby.

ANTHONY: Ride the rails to La Malbaie, Quebec.

I don't know French.

JAMES: Oui, oui!

ANTHONY: It definitely adds challenge

because there's a language barrier.

THINESH: Let's go!

AARTHY: To get number one spot today,

I am not going to bicker. [laughter]

SAM: Woo! Bonjour.

SARAH: Our word of the day today is believe.

That's a very important word to me.

It's tattooed onto my wrist.

I founded an organiZation called The Believe Initiative

because I wanted to inspire students across Canada

to make a difference in their own lives or in others.

If they believe in themselves, they can accomplish

incredible things.

We want to win, but it's gonna take a certain level

of discipline and commitment

and bravery and confidence and belief in ourselves.

JOANNE: Go! Kitchener train station.

JOANNE: We're starting today in last place.

This is normal for us.

We don't like that.

This could be our hardest leg but also our best leg.

LAUREN: We're the only team left in this race

that hasn't won a leg.

Maybe today will be the day we change that.

JOANNE: I'm excited.

DAVE: Quebec, let's go home!

IRINA: Malbaie, let's go!

SAM: I feel it's a little worrying,

the fact that we're, like, not fluent in French.

IRINA: Je t'aime. DAVE: [laughs]

JON: All teams are now travelling on the same train,

more than 1,000 kilometres from Kitchener, Waterloo,

via Toronto, Montreal, and Quebec City,

to La Malbaie in the Charlevoix region.

Once they arrive, teams will race to the iconic Chez Chantal

snack bar, famous for the Quebec Classique, poutine.

Here, they will find their next clue.

THINESH: Wow, look at that waterfall.

That's cool.

AARTHY: Tres belle.

THINESH: We respect each other

because we're all strong competitors,

and we think, yeah, us three might end up

being in the finale.

IRINA: This race is so unpredictable,

like literally anyone can end up there.

AARTHY: Anything can happen.

IRINA: For all I know, the sisters could be

in the top three.

AARTHY: Why do you make it seem like they suck?!

[laughter] ANTHONY: Wow...

IRINA: They've been consistently on the bottom.

ANTHONY: It definitely feels like we're in another country.

We're seeing like big churches.

There's like furry cows everywhere.

[goat bleats] JAMES: [laughs]

JOANNE: This'll be the farthest east we have ever gone.

There's nothing like this in Saskatchewan.

DAVE: Chez Chantal!

IRINA: Go, baby! Go, baby!

SARA: Come on, Sam! SAM: Aah!

Poutine! Route info.

Peel some potatoes.

JON: Teams will put their team prowess to the test,

as they race to properly peel 25 potatoes.

Once the chef approves their work,

teams will receive a sample of Chez Chantel's poutine,

and a key to the 2019 Chevrolet Equinox,

where they'll find their next clue.

SARAH: This is awesome.

We're on the banks of the St. Lawrence River,

in a little French town.

Just took the most adorable train.

Let's give some quality potatoes in for some poutine.

It can't get better than that.

JOANNE: Pommes de terre. They're apples of the earth.

JAMES: Oh, no way! Cool.

JOANNE: That's about as extensive as my French

is gonna get.

IRINA: I love potatoes. Love it.

Can eat them every day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

IRINA: I have a Russian background.

Russians eat a lot of potatoes.

AARTHY: It's the first time I'm peeling a potato,

I can tell you that much. Augh!

My hands hurt.

Chefs have a hard life. CHEF: [chuckles]

JAMES: Okay, we got two more.

JAMES: We spend almost every Sunday

peeling a whole thing of potatoes.

We cook huge feasts for people.

JAMES: We're done. Bring it to the window.

SAM: Alright, bring this.

AARTHY: Everybody's finishing.

Just hurry up. ANTHONY: Merci!

DAVE: Chantal, comment ca va? [speaking French]

Poutine, baby! Oh, feels like home.

SARAH: Yeah, I want some poutine.

So delicious. JAMES: It's a block more.

ANTHONY: Okay... JAMES: Argh!

Roadblock. Who wants to press their luck?

JON: Teams must drive themselves to the historic

Le Manoir Richelieu.

This 120-year-old hotel is famous for hosting world leaders

at the 2018 G7 summit.

In this Roadblock, one team member will take to the podium

and hold a press conference here in the tea room

at the Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu.

REPORTERS: [shouting chaotically]

JON: One at a time, please, one at a time!

JON: First, racers will need to memorize and deliver a speech

modelled on public statements delivered at the G7 conference,

in both English and French,

all while standing in front of this international

panel of journalists.

Then they'll have to answer three questions from the press,

one in each of the following languages: Japanese...

JON: German...

JON: ...and Italian.

JON: Once they've successfully briefed the press,

and answered every single question correctly,

they'll receive their next clue.

ANTHONY: You have to do it. I've done the last two.

JAMES: Okay, I'll do it. ANTHONY: You got this.

JAMES: Okay. ANTHONY: You got this.

We want to get on Rue Richelieu.

JAMES: I don't think it's too far.

IRINA: Who wants to press their luck?

DAVE: Press their luck... It's like pressing, okay?

IRINA: Okay, I'll do it.

SAM: Uh, I will. SARAH: Okay.

JOANNE: Ooh! Okay.

LAUREN: Check.

JOANNE: Thank you so much.

Who wants to press their luck? THINESH: I do.

THINESH: This is real good Quebec poutine.

AARTHY: I'm freaking out and Thinesh is enjoying life

and having a poutine.

This is literally our relationship.

THINESH: Mm.

JAMES: Fairmont, right?

ANTHONY: Probably just follow the signs.

You have to memorize the speech.

JAMES: [murmuring to himself in French]

Oh, what's that word?

JAMES: The text that we're supposed to memorize

is in English and French.

I know English and I know a little bit of Cree.

I have no clue how to read French.

That's a bit of a struggle, a lot struggle.

SAM: So I have to memorize a speech and say it

to a press conference, I believe.

IRINA: I'm a terrible public speaker.

Hopefully I won't screw up.

DAVE: How can you be negative? You're amazing.

I believe in you so much. IRINA: I'm not being negative.

I'm being honest.

SARAH: Let's go.

Brought a little snack.

SAM: Good morning. Welcome to La Malbaie, Quebec,

Canada, and the G7 Summit.

SAM: I'm an athlete. I do a lot of public speaking.

I'm used to speaking to kids in the classroom,

so this is right within my wheelhouse.

I'm confident I'm ready.

SARA: Mm.

IRINA: I don't feel confident at all.

IRINA: Languages are no problem for me.

I speak French, English. I understand Italian.

But public speaking is my most dominant fear.

IRINA: I might look like I'm the part, but I'm not.

This is not for me.

JAMES: [whispering] Welcome to La Malbaie, Quebec,

Canada, and the G7 Summit.

This is a memorization technique.

ANTHONY: MemoriZation is definitely something

he's good at. I mean, he's a doctor.

He's spent so many hours on hard chairs at coffee shops

that he's started getting calluses on his tailbone.

Like, that's how much he studied for med school.

JAMES: I'm gonna go attempt right away.

[cameras clicking]

JAMES: Welcome to La Malbaie, Quebec, Canada,

SARAH: [laughs]

SAM: I do a lot of public speaking,

but I don't necessarily memorize speeches.

SAM: When I give speeches, I give them from the heart.

So I'm gonna go out, gonna give it a shot.

SPEAKER: Ladies and gentlemen, your attention, please.

SAM: [chuckles]

I am super proud to be here, and you should be too.

LAUREN: Slow down. Get in the right lane.

JOANNE: Is it here?

LAUREN: It's big, like it goes along the water,

looks like a frigging castle.

JOANNE: Oh my goodness. Let's get in there.

LAUREN: You've got this.

THINESH: I'm hoping to get to this next Roadblock,

and just see all the other teams struggling.

We might have an opportunity to get out ahead.

AARTHY: Okay, please go kill this challenge.

AARTHY: Thinesh is pretty good at memoriZing

'cause he takes his time. That's the only thing.

I hope we can just bring this home.

THINESH: [whispering] Welcome to the G7 Summit.

JOANNE: [whispering in French] Uh-oh.

My memoriZation is usually really good, but under pressure,

and with words in different languages,

gonna suffer.

IRINA: I don't understand half of the things

it's trying to say, so I'm just memorizing words.

[sighs]

DAVE: This is up her alley.

She's a writer and she speaks four languages.

She's got this.

IRINA: Oh my god.

IRINA: I see all the people staring at me,

and I just blank.

IRINA: Sorry.

SPEAKER: The press conference is over.

IRINA: [crying]

IRINA: I feel like I've reached my limit.

My mind just says, "No, that's it.

"You have to go home."

IRINA: [crying]

I can't memorize nothing.

The words are just running out of my head.

DAVE: The pressure is killing her right now.

IRINA: I can't do it.

I'm done. We're out.

IRINA: Can I talk to Dave?

Can I tell him that I can't do it?

I'm out. I can't.

DAVE: I love you so much.

IRINA: Public speaking is my most dominant fear.

Like, I can't go forward.

IRINA: You don't understand. I can't get through it.

DAVE: I really think you can do it.

They're not even ready.

DAVE: We've been so far. I don't want to stop right now.

I know she can do this.

DAVE: Might as well try it until we lose, okay?

I'm working on the French, but I feel pretty confident.

THINESH: I've never done public speaking before,

but my dad is super into politics.

He's run for city council before.

I grew up to my dad giving speeches all the time,

so I want to make him proud.

THINESH: I'm gonna give it a shot.

AARTHY: Wow! Ha.

AARTHY: Thinesh walks out in a full-on suit,

and all of our jaws are open.

THINESH: [speaking in French]

I can now take questions.

THINESH: Next, I have to answer some questions to the press

in Italian, German, and Japanese.

REPORTER: [speaking Japanese]

THINESH: [responding in Japanese]

REPORTER: [speaking German]

THINESH: I have no idea.

I think... maybe Italian?

THINESH: [responding in Italian]

THINESH: It was not Italian.

SPEAKER: The press conference is over.

AARTHY: That's my man! [applause]

THINESH: Close.

JAMES: [murmuring in French]

JAMES: [speaking in French]

JAMES: This is just so hard.

Yeah, I'm definitely feeling the pressure.

It's way too long, and my mind is like, poof!

AARTHY: You look so cute!

THINESH: Sure.

AARTHY: We are heading to That. There's no description.

It makes us a little nervous,

'cause if you pick the wrong detour

that's not in your skillset, it might cost us the race.

But we hope we have a pretty decent lead,

so we think we're okay.

Thinesh looked so good in that suit and tie.

Like, I was turned on. I'm not even gonna lie.

but I focus on Dave's huge head because he's not moving

and it's not gonna throw me off.

JOANNE: I will now take any questions.

JOANNE: One of the first times we've been running

up in the front.

Having people chase us is definitely a weird feeling.

AARTHY: I feel like we're in the middle of nowhere right now.

THINESH: Keep your eyes peeled, please.

AARTHY: I am, I am. Okay, I found it.

THINESH: In the arches. AARTHY: We made it.

Voila.

JON: In "That," teams will flex their muscles and test

their hand/eye coordination, as they play a modified version

of picklit, a game that was created

right here in Charlevoix.

[people cheering]

JON: Teams will place a piece of wood

called a picklit onto a tree stump.

Then each racer will take turns to smack the picklit

into the air, and hit it out into the field to score points.

Once they've scored a combined 200 points...

[people cheering]

...Frank will give them their next clue.

COACH: You have to hit the piece of wood.

AARTHY: Like, just hit it? COACH: Yeah.

AARTHY: Pfft! I'm not a sporty person.

I can't hit it.

THINESH: I'm never heard of picklit,

but it seems like baseball.

I've been on a baseball team before, so I'm confident.

♪

COACH: Champion. THINESH: Champion, no problem.

AARTHY: Aah! THINESH: So close.

LAUREN: We are heading to "This,"

which is actually taking us to an emu farm,

and I have no idea what we're gonna have to do there.

JOANNE: Oh, right there! LAUREN: Yeah, that's it.

That's it. JOANNE: Oh, look at them!

Oh my god, they're big.

Aah! This'll tell us more about it.

JOANNE: "This."

JON: In "This," teams will need to channel their inner artist

as they re-create two paintings of these local landmarks,

using emu eggs as their canvas.

Teams will need to study these "egg-samples,"

and memorize as many details as possible because they will

not be able to touch or bring them to their station.

When their paintings have met the artist's satisfaction...

ARTIST: C'est magnifique.

JON: ...teams will drive to the nearby town of Baie St-Paul,

where they'll have to search the main street to locate

either one of the buildings they've painted on their eggs.

Once they've found one of these two shops

and delivered the eggs, they'll receive their next clue.

LAUREN: This is my jam.

LAUREN: I'm an art teacher. I can paint.

JOANNE: I can only paint by numbers.

JOANNE: Oh my goodness.

This is a lot of detail.

LAUREN: Red's probably a little bit easier to do.

JOANNE: Easier for me? LAUREN: Yeah.

JOANNE: Yeah, okay. LAUREN: Let's work right here.

JOANNE: Oh, they growl. LAUREN: No!

I'm not gonna lie, I'm really, like, stoked

that I'm not in the pen with them.

I remember getting, like, spit on by one as a kid.

They're like legitimately dangerous.

They will fight.

IRINA: [murmuring] ...built around the core principles

of democracy.

DAVE: It's taking a long time, but she's super smart.

She's gonna come back and do it.

SAM: Good morning, and welcome to La Malbaie,

and the G7 Summit.

SPEAKER: Press conference is over.

SAM: Now that I'm so focused on the other languages,

I don't feel like I have the English part.

JAMES: [speaking in French]

JAMES: [sighs] Sorry.

ANTHONY: You got it.

SARAH: The pressure is real. The pressure is real.

ANTHONY: For sure, but at this stage in the game,

there's nothing but pressure.

We all want to win, and when you're feeling that,

crazy things happen.

AARTHY: I did one!

You wanna just go and try it?

THINESH: Yeah, sure. AARTHY: Let's go, babe.

[band playing]

THINESH: Hey! AARTHY: This is so cool!

THINESH: There's this huge arena.

There's a band playing. There's a crowd cheering.

I'm feeling like a pro athlete.

[people cheering] THINESH: Yeah, let's go!

AARTHY: Okay, Bautista, let's go.

THINESH: Once we get 200 points, we can get out of here.

You have to hit the peg, and the further it goes,

the more points you get.

[people cheering] THINESH: Ah!

AARTHY: Aah! THINESH: [laughs]

AARTHY: Go again, babe. Go again.

AARTHY: Thinesh is bringing this challenge home.

He's bringing us the 10's, the 20's.

[people cheering]

AARTHY: And I'm struggling.

THINESH: Oh! AARTHY: Oh my god!

[contestants all murmuring]

SAM: Okay... just...

SARAH: He is a public speaker. He knows how to do this.

I just hope that he's able to use some of his techniques

we would use in sport, and have the confidence to overcome.

SAM: Persistence. I gotta believe.

ANTHONY: Oh my god. SARAH: What?

SARA: Okay. Argh!

SAM: There are two teams ahead that are quite a bit ahead,

so that sucks, but we're in the mix.

We're in the middle.

IRINA: [murmuring in French]

I think I got it.

IRINA: This is definitely the toughest challenge for me

so far in the race.

My worst nightmare, but knowing that Dave is waiting for me,

I have to push myself beyond my limitations.

I don't want to let him down.

IRINA: [speaking French]

DAVE: I love you so much.

REPORTER: [speaking Japanese]

IRINA: [responding in Japanese]

JOANNE: It's hard to come back and paint it,

and go back and forth; like if I could have it in front of me,

that would be perfect, but we can't do that.

JOANNE: We left the Roadblock in second place,

but I'm starting to get nervous.

We don't know where the other teams are.

LAUREN: Let's hope that this is our correct choice.

[people cheering] THINESH: Yes!

AARTHY: I really just want to contribute a couple points.

THINESH: Yes, hit it! Oh, nice try!

AARTHY: It's hard. THINESH: You got this.

where they will find the eighth Pitstop

amongst these legendary ships

on the shores of the iconic St. Lawrence River.

The last team check in here may be eliminated.

AARTHY: We're off to the Pitstop!

so we kind of took a really long detour.

THINESH: Hopefully the teams are still stuck at their detours,

and we still have a chance for first.

We stopped a lot for directions today, but it's been hard.
