Aren't you supposed to be at the wedding?

Tell me...

Who on earth am I?

Does Doctor Jin know?

You know everything. Then why?

He should never know!

So why? Why?

Lady! Lady! [Episode 15]

We must find her and operate on her immediately.

So she risked her life to marry me?

Maybe she thought I'd be moved to tears then.

Find her.

You said she could die unless she gets surgery!

I can't let her die.

Same here.

It was a dream but it was not.

Even if I bleed to death...

I didn't want to let go of his hand.

I couldn't leave Doctor Jin.

Then?

What are you going to do?

You live in this world but he belongs to another world.

You think there's hope for your love?

Maybe there is in a different world.

I've tried to protect both of you...

since it'd be better not to know if it's hopeless.

The truth is valuable only to those who can deal with it.

Since I can't deal with it and my love is hopeless...

I'd better hide my feelings...

and just ignore it. Is that it?

If Doctor Jin finds out the truth, everything will turn into a mess.

And he'll never be able to go back.

Is that what you want?

Miss.

I don't know.

I really don't know what I should do.

I know how painful it is...

to just watch, hiding feelings of love.

But, you must control your feelings...

and you should.

Why am I...

going through this?

Also...

why is he going through this?

We should not ask why in this universe.

All we have to know is how to deal with the things that are given to us.

You must abide by my words.

Never, ever let him know about your love.

Choon Shim, are you out there?

Have someone follow her.

Yes.

Miss!

Miss!

I'm sorry.

Search everywhere she could possibly go.

Comb through the town and find her. Got that?

Yes!

Father, can I stay here for some time?

Please, let me hide in here.

My Lord. My Lord!

Is no one out there?

My Lord.

Go fetch Young Rae and her mother right now.

I'll make them government slaves.

She is sick.

She belatedly found that she has a disease.

That's why she couldn't attend the wedding.

She's even in poor health?

What a plight!

It is curable with surgery!

Please give me some time!

I will find her and bring her in by any means.

I cast out even my firstborn son when he brought disgrace on my family.

Will I not be more rigorous...

Don't forget there is a limit to my patience.

The Royal Family Tree?

By Prince Heung Seon?

After taking charge of the Bureau of Royal Kindred,

he's carrying forward the compilation of the Royal Family Tree.

Isn't it under the jurisdiction of the Bureau of Royal Archives?

Exactly.

Something smells fishy.

He gave his son to the Queen Dowager for adoption.

Maybe he wants to become the head of a serpent for his own ego.

Your Excellency.

I should've nipped him in the bud before he became a threat.

People might hear you.

They say that a long-lived serpent ascends to heaven as a dragon.

Would he really become a dragon?

[Seonwonlok]

What is Seonwonlok?

It's the record that proves our royal kinship.

In other words,

this book contains the name of an heir to the throne.

Therefore,

we should be proud of our royal blood

and set straight the Royal Family that is dying down.

The time to show our power as royal kinsmen has come.

That is why we gathered here.

This book will be of great support to us.

We'll strike Byung Hee Kim.

Who is Byung Hee Kim?

Isn't he the most corrupted in all of Joseon?

And he tried to wipe out the royal kinsmen.

Prince Heung Seon, but that's...

the State Councilor.

He's still too formidable for us.

I have His Majesty The King and the Queen Dowager behind me.

It is time to unite and fight to drive out the Andong Kim clan.

If you're afraid of an assassin,

you shouldn't do anything reckless.

Be thankful that I was not sent by the Councilor.

My gracious!

Isn't he Scholar Hong?

Didn't he die in Jinju?

Don't breathe a word to anyone.

Since your body was not found, I didn't think you were lost, but...

I was shot and I fell into water.

A group of bandits passing by saved my life.

Heaven helped you.

It would've been better to lose my pathetic life.

Scholar Hong.

Not until the narrow escape from death did I realize...

that I can't achieve anything if I have nothing.

My comrades, my friend...

I've lost everything.

Will you use me?

What if my goal is different from your ideal world?

When I fell from the cliff...

the ideal Joseon I dreamed of..

also vanished in the water.

Now, your goal will be mine as well.

Thank you, Scholar Hong. Thank you.

By the way,

why don't you let your sister know that you're back?

If she knew you were safe...

No one should know.

That's the only way I can protect my family.

The Left State Councilor enters to Your presence.

This Servant answers to your summoning.

The cause of the Jinju riot was the result of corrupt officials

and behind those officials is State Councilor Byung Hee Kim.

Corruption in our government administration is too extreme now,

and the Councilor's house is always full of

petty cliques that seek positions.

The State Councilor should resign from his position.

The State Councilor should resign.

State Councilor, State Councilor...

All these letters of appeal have to do with you.

Hundreds of letters a day,

they give me such a headache!

Your Majesty,

they're just falsely accusing me!

Please pay no attention to those filthy troublemakers.

Filthy troublemakers?

Most of the appeals are from royal clansmen!

What now?

Royal kinsmen are crowding outside the palace and...

The people are starving and they're complaining about the Royal Family!

The one who is responsible for this situation,

State Councilor Byung Hee Kim, should resign now!

He should resign!

Your Majesty, please listen to us!

Please listen to us!

Will the Councilor step down at their protests?

Of course he won't.

Eh?

Then why did you mobilize them and cause this chaos?

Do you like chess?

There's a move called drastic change in middle phase.

That is, once you stabilize your lineup,

you need to make a bold, clever move and break down the enemy.

Now you need to find out

who bribed the Councilor, how much, and what they earned in return, in detail.

Can you?

That's my specialty.

If I treat aristocrats in my gambling house,

I think I can lubricate their tongues.

You might want to plant a spy in his party as well.

A spy?

It just crossed my mind that there might be a perfect man for the job.

Then I'll get going to the gambling house.

How did it go?

We've searched everywhere in town but...

I don't think she's in the city.

Search further. Send a search party.

Yes.

What now?

I'm glad to see you after such a long time.

Listen.

I have nothing to do with you now.

What about the treasury bond with your signature?

I've already destroyed it.

I didn't know you were that nimble.

So don't even try to threaten me with it.

Okay?

Look, Secretary Kim.

How long do you think the Councilor will be in power for?

No power lasts forever.

Every tide has its ebb.

Why don't you prepare for the future, just in case?

I've seen so many people end up in misery

because of the poor choices they made.

What a surprise. When did you come?

I know you blame me.

You do?

You think she disappeared because of me,

that I scared her to go into hiding from you.

No?

She has cancer.

If she's left alone and her cancer gets worse, then...

Then there might be nothing I can do.

What if it's her fate?

What?

Again, are you going to save a person doomed to die?

It can result in the death of someone who must live!

My lord.

How can you not see my love for you?

You really can't see it?

It's all for you.

Everything's slowly returning to where it was.

It's not long until you can go back.

So please, stop looking for her.

No.

I'm fine with fate and fine with returning, but...

I will find her before that. And,

I will have her get the surgery.

Any news from her?

No, but...

What is it? Tell me.

I think maybe she's there.

Where...?

There's a place she goes to sometimes.

What are you waiting for? Search!

Yes!

Sir, there's no one here.

Move aside!

Grandpa!

You little rascal!

Hoh! Hoh!

There's none.

Listen.

If you're caught in hiding Catholics...

you know what will happen, right?

Pull out!

Yes!

Hoh...

Hoh! Hoh...

What should we do?

We need a doctor. Please send for a doctor.

We have to go to the capital for a doctor,

but he won't come.

Then can you bring me thread and a needle?

Fine silk thread and fine needle would be good. The finer, the better.

Also, bring me soju if you have some.

You can treat simple external injuries with some basic knowledge.

Before treatment, always disinfect the wounded area.

After disinfection,

stop the bleeding with green tea.

Can green tea stop the bleeding?

Yes. Carotene in green tea arrests bleeding.

Ca...

...rotene.

Carotene.

Sterilize medical appliances at all times before using.

Is it to keep the body from being infected by germs?

That's right.

I know that.

We heat up the needle before we prick a finger with it on the same principle.

Seems you know a lot.

Hoh, you can bear with it, right?

Hang on, you'll be fine after this.

Good stitches will leave no scar.

Especially on the visible area, it's better not to do close stitches.

Bear with it a little more, all right?

You're a good boy.

Now we only have to tie a knot and snip it off.

Though it seems like nothing,

all these tiny stitches keep a life safe.

Done. It's all finished.

You were very brave.

Thank you. Thank you.

Are you a doctor?

No, I'm not.

I just learned it from somebody.

But please, come see your patients. You said it's your dream.

Don't give up on your dreams because of me.

You're not bad.

I think somebody taught you very well.

Can you go play outside?

The feelings when you've cured a patient for the first time...

It's beyond expression.

You feel happy, excited,

and thankful.

Now it's your turn to get treatment.

Please go back.

I know it's because of me.

And that's why I can't go back.

I can't let you die because of me.

Where is your stuff?

Is it in there?

Maybe this is my fate.

Then, it's also your fate that you met me, a doctor.

You must go back to the future.

I know. I do!

But the person in front of me is you,

and you're dying.

I won't go anywhere before I save your life.

So he's finally...!

No.

No, you should not.

Your Majesty, please dismiss the Councilor from his position!

Please dismiss the Councilor, Your Majesty!

Please dismiss him!

Councilor, we should figure out what to do.

It's already been two days.

He's right.

I don't think they will go away that easily.

They're saying that they won't leave until you resign.

This is Prince Heung Seon's scheme to oust our clan from the royal court.

Are you going to just sit and watch?

Of course not.

Then..?

Did you say it's been two days?

It's about time they get weary.

Pardon me?

Tell the Royal Guard right now to send out guardsmen.

Guardsmen?

Soldiers?

Yes.

Well, the Councilor is not the type of person to take this lying down.

But still, it's a bit much to use the royal forces...

Things will turn his way.

Royal kinsmen will get scared and scatter.

That's the problem of wimpish aristocrats.

If you draw a sword, you should at least cut something.

When the military is at his command,

how could we stop them?

You mean, you'll back off now?

Then, how about adding fuel to the fire?

Fuel?

Me?

Me, what?

Please dismiss him!

Listen up!

If you withdraw now, no one will get hurt.

But!

If you don't, we'll have no choice but to use force.

Leave at once!

How dare you!

The State Councilor is an unprecedented loyalist.

How dare you play trickery?

What? Trickery?

If you're jealous of us, the Kims of Andong,

find a way to rise to the head of the State!

You petty worthless royal kinsmen!

You sound as insolent as street bums!

What? Street bums?

Did you just compare us to street bums?

Come here!

Don't stop me.

Let go of me. Let go of me.

- Let go of me! - What!

If we had left them alone, they would've dispersed themselves.

Who the heck gave such orders?

Was it you?

Pardon? No...

I have no idea.

Who is it? Who did this without his approval?

Is it you? Or you?

Councilor, there's more trouble.

Angry royal kinsmen that heard the news are gathering

at the gates of the palace.

Their numbers are increasing.

Also, it looks like Confucian scholars are joining the royal kinsmen in protest.

There's already an overwhelming number of letters of appeal.

State Councilor, His Majesty summons you to his private room.

Councilor, Councilor.

Are you trying to kill me?

I have a pounding headache from that noise.

Your Majesty, you shouldn't just do nothing.

We should arrest them all and punish them by law.

Arrest?

Do you know how many of them there are?

We don't even have enough space to put them in jail.

But...

My King,

wouldn't it be easier to remove one person than a hundred people?

Who is that one person?

Do you mean the Councilor?

Oh, Queen Mother, that is impossible.

Unless he resigns himself, how could I...

Maybe the Councilor has some ideas.

And what were you up to when things got this bad?

What were you thinking?

Please forgive me.

It was all so sudden I couldn't stop them.

Prince Heung Seon...

Prince Heung Seon!

Your Excellency, Your Excellency.

Excessive anger is not good for your body.

Please calm down.

They say that the crowd numbers a few hundred.

It'd be big trouble if they break in here.

It'd be better to prepare for every possible scenario.

What are you waiting for?

Call out private soldiers and tighten the security around the house.

Yes, My Lord.

I'm glad you'll get surgery now.

He will for sure save your life.

Oh, you need to disrobe.

Excuse me for a moment.

Are you sure...

you won't regret this?

I will regret it if I can't save you,

if I even lose you.

If...

What if...

Never ever let Doctor Jin know about your love.

No.

Never mind.

Call us in when you are ready.

Thank you for finding me.

Are you going to save a person doomed to die?

It can result in the death of someone who must live!

Call in private soldiers.

Surround the house like a ring of iron. Don't let even an ant sneak in.

Yes, sir!

The bride disappeared before the wedding.

You must be very anxious.

Did you come to let me know where she is by divination?

Sorry, but I don't have time to listen to some sham soothsayer.

In that case,

I guess I shouldn't tell you what I know.

Where is she?

Do you know?

Never...

They should never be together.

Just answer my question!

The estimated size of the tumor is less than 3cm in diameter.

I'm not sure if it's spread to the lymph gland in the armpit.

The distance between the tumor and the papilla is more than 3cm.

We'll go with lumpectomy.

Where are you going?

- Call for Dr. Seo now! - Yes.

Yes, Mi Na.

We ca...

We can...meet...

We can meet...again.

Doctor Jin, it seems she's not fully anesthetized.

I'll go bring more anesthetics.

We can...

We can... meet...again.

Huh?

What is she murmuring?

She is under anesthesia.

I'm going to do surgery on her. Please wait.

Is it breast cancer for sure?

It seems so.

It's curable with surgery for sure, right?

If it doesn't spread further, yes.

Excuse me.

I beg you.

Pleas save her life.

I will.

I'll definitely save her this time.

She just murmured something.

Sorry?

What was it again? I didn't hear it clearly but...

she said something like, "...meet again."

It happens during awakening from anesthesia.

Let's begin.

The tumor is located in the upper, outer quadrant, around 2.5 by 2.5 cm in size.

Since the tumor is close to the skin,

I will remove the adjacent skin in the shape of a bamboo blade.

Removal of the tumor.

Remove the surrounding normal tissues

to make sure there are no cancer cells left.

Now we only have to suture.

Good. Thank God.

Doctor Jin, what's wrong? Are you alright?

Must go back.

Yes.

Doctor Jin.

Doctor Jin!

Blood. She's bleeding...

The bleeding isn't stopping!

Doctor Jin.

Abnormal bleeding. Seems somewhere in the artery burst.

Keep on doing suction!

Mi Na, hang in there.

You must hang in there.

No, Mi Na.

Clamp. Give me the clamp.

We must hold it with the clamp.

Clamp?

Are you going to save a person doomed to die?

It can result in the death of someone who must live!

Clamp.

My hand... Please hold my hand!

What's wrong with your hand?

Hurry!

She's bleeding too much and I can't see where it bleeds.

If I don't tie up the bleeding vein, her life could be in danger.

Please...

Give me. I'll do it.

No. Give me. I'm okay.

I'm a doctor, too!

Although I'm not as good as you, I'm also a doctor!

Both you and Lady Young Rae are patients now.

If you trust me as a doctor,

please leave yourself and her to me.

Doctor Hur...

I learned from you, didn't I?

Just trust me.

Then I'll trust you.

Here... Incise the bottom here and find the artery.

Incise...

There's no time.

Doctor Jin, I can't see it.

Oh God. There's no time.

- Doctor Jin. - Please...

- I got it. - Hold it.

Alright.

Seeing that he had private soldiers encircle his house,

I guess he is ill at ease.

By the way, how did you come up with such a brilliant idea?

And we benefited from our spy as well.

Now it's time to figure out what comes next.

Certainly.

Did you get it?

Oh, sure.

Here you are.

The record of when and how much they bribed the Councilor.

See here?

I even got their personal seals fixed.

However formidable the Councilor is,

he can't be safe if this is released, right?

The more you touch poop, the more it stinks.

His stink reaches the high heavens.

You must now make the calls.

Then now it's my turn to deliver a checkmate.

Councilor, you're nearing your end!

How is it going?

The number of people in the crowd is rising.

Ugh...

I brought some medicine for you.

Not just medicine,

but I also brought you a good remedy for this situation.

There's only one person who can disperse this crowd

...and put things back to how they were.

Yes, it's Prince Heung Seon.

What are you saying?

Unless he is insane,

why would he rain on his own parade?

So we should make him do so.

How?

We can use Doctor Jin to move him.

Doctor Jin?

Lady Young Rae disappeared, therefore refusing to marry.

It seems she and Doctor Jin are quite intimate.

Would he sit idle if something happened to her?

And to whom would he run to to ask for help?

Sometimes the heart is more powerful than the sword.

Miss.

Are you okay?

How do you feel?

So I am... alive.

But Mi Na...

I couldn't completely save her.

I couldn't even make sure if she had recovered before I came here.

I was afraid of making the same mistake.

I was worried that you might not come around either.

It's not your fault.

Don't be hard on yourself.

She probably would want that too.

You said there must be a reason why I am here.

It was on my mind while doing the surgery.

'Why was I sent here?'

'Why did I meet you, who looks like Mi Na?'

'Perhaps, instead of saving her...

I was sent here to save Lady Young Rae.'

I'll visit your family. They must be really worried about you.

Get some rest.

Madam!

Rebel? What are you talking about?

My son couldn't be a rebel!

- Let go of me! - Madam!

What is it? Why are you taking her?

By the command of the State Councilor, we're taking the family of a rebel.

What?

What are you talking about? Rebel? Let go of me!

Hey.

Let go of me!

- Take her! - Yes!

Madam! Madam!

Sir.

Please help.

What's going on?

Madam Hong was taken away.

I think they found out that Scholar Hong was the leader of the rebellion.

They say the State Councilor will make his family government slaves.

There's no one but you who can help. Please.

My lord.

I'm glad that you are safe.

How could I beg for your forgiveness?

No words can justify my...

If something bad had happened to you, I wouldn't have forgiven you.

My lord...

But since you are safe, I'll forgive you.

Come, let's go.

Let's seek the Councilor's pardon for this and proceed with our marriage.

I'm sorry but I...

Don't worry.

Since you are well again, there are no problems.

I will make sure he is as merciful as possible towards you.

It is not that.

I thought it was our fate.

So I was going to submit to it.

Stop.

But even if we were meant for each other,

I can't follow that fate.

I said, stop!

Didn't I say I wouldn't expect your love?

Nothing will change.

We'll marry as planned.

My lord.

-Is no one out there? -Yes sir!

Escort the lady.

I can't go with you!

You really don't know how I feel?

You do, don't you?

There's someone in my heart.

So you finally...

You finally...!

What is it?

She's still a patient. Where are you taking her?

My lord!

Step aside.

No.

I said, step aside.

Just put me to your sword.

It is I who wronged you.

I deserve to die. So please,

kill me.

If it's your wish to die, I will grant your wish.

There was a woman I wished to save but couldn't.

So I promised Lady Young Rae

...that I'd save her by all means.

If you're gonna kill her, go ahead.

Then I'll save her again.

That is the reason why I was sent here...

and because you wanted to save her so desperately.

Crazy...

You and I... We're all crazy.

I thought you'd come to me if I waited for you forever.

My waiting in vain...

ends here...

for good.

What do you want me to do?

Do you think you can save them?

Then I'll have to let the Councilor go.

I will devote my life to you.

Please save my family.

My Lord, Prince Heung Seon is here to see you.

Let him in.

What a surprise.

Since we know what we each want,

I'll get straight to the point.

So, you have something to give me?

A little drink benefits your health but too much ruins your health.

I think you've eaten too much.

That's why you're doomed to fail.

Prince Heung Seon.

I was going to show it to His Majesty The King and the Queen Dowager.

If Confucian scholars knew as well,

the post of State Councilor could be empty by tomorrow.

Do you really think you can get what you want with this?

Why?

You think I can't?

Councilor,

I will tell the protesting royal kinsmen to stop.

I will secure your position.

In addition, I'll petition the King for your son in exile.

I see what I'll gain from you.

Tell me what you want in return.

You really don't know?

I will set Madam Hong free.

And I promise that she won't become a slave even in the future.

Is that enough?

See?

I told you that human beings are easily moved by emotions.

You're right.

I thought Prince Heung Seon would be different but...

Anyways, since you gained something bigger,

it wasn't a bad transaction.

What are you talking about?

You think the deal is done?

Pardon me?

He severely disgraced me.

This isn't enough to satisfy me.

What do you mean?

I still have something to give Prince Heung Seon.

Young Rae!

Young Rae...

-Mother. -Did they let you go?

Are you alright?

Why didn't you tell me?

Now I am fine.

Doctor Jin gave me surgery.

Is she really alright?

Yes.

But she needs more rest.

How come you got such a virulent disease at your age?

How were you going to die before me?

How come my children worry me so much?

Mother, I'm sorry about not telling you the truth about Young Hwi.

I'm proud of him.

I thought he's had a weak character but...

Did you see how he died?

It's better that you saw him to his last journey instead of me.

Mother...

What is this? Make way.

Strangers are not allowed to come in.

Don't you know who I am?

I am Kyung Tak Kim, the Commander of the Royal Guards!

The Councilor just dismissed you from your position.

Also, he has forbidden your entry to this house.

What?

Anybody who touches me,

I won't forgive them.

What's with all the commotion?

What did I do wrong?

Leave us alone.

So you're going to shoot me?

My Lord.

I told you that there's a limit to my patience.

You brought disgrace on me and the family with your marriage

and you couldn't even do things right because of that girl.

How long did you think I'd let that slide?

Too much water decays a plant.

I was too generous

and expected too much out of you.

Now that you know why... get out.

What should I do?

Please tell me...

what I should do...

You're really making a big deal out of nothing.

When things went well with the Councilor, why should we...

How can you say that?

Don't you understand how important his safety is in a situation like this?

I asked you repeatedly to escort him safely.

That's why we're going to fetch him now.

Let's hurry.

I don't feel good about tonight.

Sir.

What brings you here?

Madam Hong was released and came back unharmed.

Really?

Thank you.

For what? Don't be silly.

By the way, how did you change the Councilor's mind?

I gave up my Cannons and Chariots, but played a tight defense.

Sorry?

You don't need to know.

Just put me to your sword.

He has done nothing wrong.

Doctor Jin!

Sir!

Sir!

Are you going to save a person doomed to die?

It can result in the death of someone who must live!

No.. No!

Sir.

Sir!

Subtitles by MBC

He was shot. This way. Hurry!

My lord. Who did this atrocious thing to him?

You'll be alright. Stay with us!

Myong Bok... Please take care of my son.

- My lord! - Sir.

Sir!

- My Lord. - Sir!

By his death, Joseon ended an epoch and moved into a new one.

Do you think I'd share my fate with Prince Heung Seon?

Are you going to discard him now?

We'll wait and see.

You and me... I feel we have a doomed relationship.

It has grown too big. I mean the lump in your head.

You shouldn't get involved in things in this world anymore.

My lord, please take my life.

It's me who wants to die. Why do you ask me to kill you?

Even if I died several times, I wouldn't be able to undo what I did wrong.
