the prices real high.

Availability of product
legally to sale, you know,

And then the price is high.

So that actually makes it
kind of a rare commodity.

So this is not a one-time deal.

moonshine on a jet,

I mean-- I mean, we're gonna,
we're gonna bring it.

This barrel here,
that should make a fine cap.

It'll make a good, little cap.

In Graham County,
North Carolina, suspecting that

rival shiners Mike and Jerry
stole the copper cap

from their moonshine still...

but to build a new one

with materials
they have on hand.

to make them out of wood.

The plan is we're gonna use
this small, wooden barrel

and we're gonna use what scrap
copper we got to seal it

to the pot.

the right dimensions cut out.

What is a candy roaster
and how in the heck do you make

a pumpkin pie without pumpkins?

A candy roaster is
a type of a squash.

It was first cultivated
in this area

by the Cherokee Indians.

It's real sweet.
It's real firm.

It doesn't break down
like a pumpkin.

I mean, it's amazing.

So apparently the candy
roaster squash tastes like

a pumpkin, but a lot sweeter
and a lot better texture.

You got my answers to that.

We can be working

Well, the big thing is,
like, how much of this stuff

are you gonna need?
- Well, got a big family,

so I'm looking around
maybe 30 gallons or more.

Just as much as
you can get me.

You know, this is a whole new
process to us, but I've worked

with similar fruits or gourds
before, so to speak.

Take that skin
off of it for you.

Pretty much simple,
just, you know,

bust this stuff up,
break it down,

and cook it down,
and mash it in.

Almost tastes like
a green watermelon.

what that reminds me of?

Tell you what,
these things are way different

than a pumpkin,
in my opinion.

You know, the meat's a lot more
dense, and it's got a lot more

flavor to it.

a pie out of them.
They've just got a whole lot

different flavor to them.

And I figure that if we can get
our water up to boil,

melt our sugar first,
and then put our candy roasters
in,

it's gonna be cooking
all that flavor, all that sugar

into these-- into the meat
of these candy roasters

and make it
that much sweeter.

I can already tell you're gonna
have too much fun with that.

I do, they got way
less guts than a pumpkin does.

And the important thing
is we gotta get these things

broke down so that
the yeast can actually work

the sugars out of them.

By boiling them,
we're softening up that meat

where the yeast
can get in there to it.
