And I used to love running my hand along the cushions

and feeling each individual fiber shift under my fingers.

I used to call it one-way fabric,

because it always left a visible trail after you touched it.

That's a cute memory,

That's the thing about one-way fabric is

I wasn't the only one who could see those trails,

and this was very much a look and don't touch kind of room.

So I had to be careful.

Growing up, my dad was really traditional

and he always wanted a son, but

he had all these expectations of manhood

that I wasn't interested in.

The only thing we ever really bonded over was history.

He had this book about the Kings and Queens of England.

I was looking through it and saw this really

twinky painting that caught my eye.

He was a king,

but he died when he was 15.

It just struck me close to home,

this boy, boxed in by expectations.

I felt like I could pick up where he left off

and become the man he never got to be.

I'd write him poems and stuff.

It's all really silly in retrospect, but it helped me figure out who I am.

That's a really sweet memory.

Well, it's just that

a memory of a long lost love.
