mission under the command of Captain

Braddock lifted off the surface of Mars
to begin the journey back to Earth.

Nine long weeks in which inexplicably
there's been no contact with mission

control from the nine international
scientists and astronauts who undertook

unprecedented and dangerous journey.

a scant five months ago.

This lack of communication from those
aboard remains a mystery, and Dr. Andrew

McAllister, the director of the mission
here in the United States, provides no

answers and seems to have no idea as to
what has happened.

He must truly be the first person in
history to have lost a spaceship.

As of last night, however, observers at
Palomar have isolated a moving object,

which may or may not be the space lab.
If it is, then Conestoga would only be

three days away from Earth.

big ifs, if the object is indeed the

Conestoga, if the craft has not been
disabled in some way, and if their two

-week encampment upon Martian soil has
not led to some physical or mental

debility that would preclude the space
traveler's safe return to Earth.

Whether or not this is the spaceship,
the mission is clearly in jeopardy.
