This episode of Flora's Lava is brought
to you by the kitchen.
A dangerously fun room for all.
But remember...
Don't try it at home, though.
Please don't try it at home.
Don't try it.
No, no, don't try this at home, bro.
If you can get some lava in your house,
don't try it.
Don't.
These guys are right.
If you get the chance to play with
lava, keep these tips in mind.
Jumping directly into lava can be
detrimental to your skeletal health.
Just go!
Just go!
Lava bathing will result in a very
messy skin condition.
You must remember at all times,
lava is not your friend.
Hopefully today's three teams use these
tips.
We have an age-old rivalry in this
episode.
Doctors versus nurses versus emergency
room patients.
The battle for dominance will be
settled in the kitchen.
The kitchen is a chef's fever dream of
appliances, butcher blocks, and pizza.
But if you make one mistake,
it won't just be your goose that's
cooked.
That's why picking the right path from
the entrance to the exit is so
important.
The first option requires a good grip.
If you've got strong hands and can
handle a skillet,
swing your way across the pot rack to
the pizza oven,
where pizza is your friend.
And useful items hide in plain sight.
If you can just think outside the box.
From there,
just a few hops across the bar stools
will deliver you to the dining table.
But be careful,
those stools aren't as solid as they
look.
If agility is your recipe for success,
there's another route for you.
Climb the imposing wall of knives.
But don't fret,
those blades have been adjusted for
safety.
Once at the circular table,
you're just a mozzarella stick ride
away from the dining table and a shot
at the exit.
The kitchen is filled with countless
other options to get to the end,
including a secret to make that final
leap a lot easier.
Whichever path you choose,
you'll need to make it quick because
the stairs to the exit are sinking,
making that last jump tougher than a
microwave pizza.
And the first of three teams that'll
attempt to play with the lava is a trio
of physicians.
Here are doctors Rap, Jennifer,
and DJ reporting for duty.
We know each other through work since
we're all physicians.
We sometimes share in patient care.
We see young people,
we see very old people.
My motto is, from the womb to the tomb,
baby, we'll take care of you.
We also all have children about the
same age.
We actually met five years ago at a
Halloween party.
And you guys know each other a little
bit more intimately than that.
We do.
Jen and I have been married over 11
years.
We're going on our own.
11 years.
Yes.
That's all.
It's all road.
Ralph and I have three rambunctious
shamboys.
My kids and I love to play the floor as
lava.
We do it often at home.
So my kids actually play the floor as
crocodile.
But there's some crossover and I
haven't been eaten by a crocodile yet,
so I don't see a problem too.
Nurses are our competition today.
And I love nurses,
but I don't care if I'm going against
my grandma.
She's going down.
The nurses are a great support in like
the clinical setting, but that's it.
They're the support.
We're the docs, we call the shots.
That's how it is.
Oh my god.
Wow.
Holy.
What is this place?
So wait, why don't you grab it?
Look at these.
Can you protect you?
Hey, there's an oven there.
Pizza is key.
One of us has to get over there to that
pizza oven.
Hello, doctors.
It's nearly time to operate.
Inside this kitchen,
everything is at your disposal.
So probe, examine,
and manipulate whatever you believe
might assist your trip across the lava.
Get to the exit.
Stack as the exit stairs slowly descend
until they are gone.
The team with the most players through
the exit wins.
Most importantly,
do not touch the floor because the
floor is going to try this over here.
Do you want to give that a go and see?
I don't know if I can reach it.
Do you want Raph to go first so we can
help you?
Hold on, put your foot on it,
see if it's wobbly.
Not wobbly.
You want any surprises?
I don't know if I could reach this.
Are we dividing concrete?
Are you going that way?
Is it stable?
Yeah.
Jen's in for a huge surprise if she
doesn't realize there's gaps between
the footholds along the wall.
Okay, I'm trying, I'm trying.
Watch with her.
Yeah, watch your footing, Jen.
It's interrupted.
Do I have a place here to put my foot?
Yeah, but it's interrupted.
You guys broken up.
There's a smaller step coming up now.
Does she have the reach to get to that
step?
Go more left.
A little bit more left.
Go more left.
Right there.
There you go.
Okay, okay.
I think you should help her there,
and then I'll start with her.
Help her where, sorry?
Help her by going across the street.
Okay.
So, uh,
are you gonna wait for me or are you
gonna go across?
I don't know.
You should try to pull.
Whoa, Dr.
DJ with cat-like moves.
Smart move prescribing himself a slide
to avoid a slip and fall.
Okay.
All right.
I'm coming to you, Jen.
Hey, child!
Okay.
Okay.
I'm breathing.
I'm not hyperventilating.
I'm breathing.
Okay, we're going to stay together.
Wait for him.
Wait for him.
Oh my god, I'm not quite sure.
Okay.
DJ, a pain management doctor,
aching for a way onto that pot rack.
He's on.
And he's a beast.
Look at him shaking down that pot rack
like it owes him money.
Wow.
Way to go, DJ.
Great job, DJ.
Wow.
Careful.
All right, Jen.
Oh, Baba, Petey.
Bappa.
Yes.
Do you need help?
All right.
Hey, Monako.
Careful.
Oh, Jin lunged for the table,
but her efforts delivered her to the
lava.
I need something to get a good grip on.
Newly single Dr.
Raph taking the same path that just
consumed his wife.
That is kind of a stretch.
A little challenging.
He's having more trouble with that move
than his wife did.
What can I do here?
Extend my grip.
Oh, that's not going to help.
All right, I'm making my way.
I'm stretching.
Alrighty.
This is a stretch.
Maybe go for the chair with your left
foot and then your right foot on the
table.
My left foot, huh?
Left foot on that chair.
Yeah.
Alrighty.
That way you have something to dig into
a little bit.
I got to dig into it.
Push on.
Push it.
They got to get a grip.
All right, here we go.
That's it.
Oh, lava trenching his lower half.
All right.
See if you can get.
You hide?
Lasa?
Sure.
Coming your way.
Doctors stopping for a lunch break.
They may want to hurry since time
determines tiebreakers.
Don't get your hands too greasy.
This stuff is too greasy.
Your inner child will play today.
All right.
Hopefully the inner child doesn't play
with lava.
Okay.
Alrighty.
So I gotta hang on to the ropes.
Diagnostic radiologist Raph at work.
Is it mozzarella or provolone?
Hmm.
Get ready.
I think I'm gonna have to go for it.
One.
Two.
Oh, no.
Oh, no is right.
The stairs to the exit may be gone
soon,
making that last jump a very difficult
operation.
Oh, I can't.
I need a little bit more momentum.
Spot-on diagnosis from Dr.
Raff.
And he makes it!
With that confident dismount, Dr.
Raph demonstrates how on this team,
he is the big cheese.
Dr.
Raph needs to go now while there's
still one square above the lava.
Me, you can jump in.
And the doctor is in.
All right, DJ, you can do this.
You know, there's a hole in this table.
You know what?
Looks like it might separate.
Maybe we need a key or something.
Uh, yeah.
DJ saw the pizza is key sign earlier.
And he's off.
DJ has come alive.
You got this.
You got it, buddy.
You know, if this stair disappeared,
I could try to help you get into this
doorway.
What's in there?
DJ digging inside the pizza oven and
comes out with pizza.
Nice.
Pizza?
Looks good.
Pepperoni.
Oh, pepperoni and lava.
All right, Jay, DJ, the stairs gone,
buddy.
Okay.
The stair is gone.
The stairs are indeed gone,
making that key even more important.
Oh, wow.
And there's the key.
Awesome.
You know, I don't think I...
If those stairs were here,
I could have made it from here.
I think you have to go back around.
Looks like a harder jump that way.
I think you got to start moving, buddy.
Good.
Running out of time.
Good.
If you can get on that chair,
you can jump across and save time.
Dr.
Raff's prescription?
Take a bar stool and call me in the
morning.
Nice.
Wow.
That was awesome.
Monkey bars?
Maybe you could swing it?
Bar stool, the dining table, maybe?
I'm going to rack myself on this thing.
Whoa, he's in the spin cycle.
That was awesome.
Yes!
Step right up and take a ride on the
Flores lava stool that will more than
likely spin you into a pool.
Of lava, that is.
And don't drop that key.
You got this.
You got it in the back, man.
Yes, but he made that lava very angry.
You got it.
You can do this.
Come on.
That was awesome.
Wow.
You land on the table,
just flatten out.
Two jumps stand between Dr.
DJ and the exit.
The jump he's looking to make to that
dining table is four feet.
And what's worse,
that chair he's jumping from swivels.
Taking home the gold medal in
self-mutilation is Dr.
DJ with an incredibly painful dismount.
Enough, peace!
His team has one point, though.
Yes!
Woo-hoo!
I did it!
A 33% survival rate for the doctors as
Dr.
Jin went into the lava with 10 cc's of
Chinese food.
Her husband, Dr.
Raph, however, had good fortune.
Your inner child will play today.
All right, let's play.
And kept his cheese together all the
way to the end to score a point for his
team.
And physically impressive Dr.
DJ took himself for a spin and a
painful goodbye into the lava.
I think we may have a chance because of
what you've done so far.
I mean, like,
singular effort was awesome from you.
We call the shots.
Nurses do all the work.
They're definitely indispensable.
We love them.
But today, they're going down.
The doctors are on board,
but nurses are waiting in the wings,
and one point isn't exactly a diagnosis
for success.
Our next team to take on this culinary
course are three professional
caregivers who have a bone to pick with
the doctors.
Meet the nurses.
We are orthopedic registered nurses,
so we work with a lot of joint
replacements and hip fractures and just
bones.
Nurses do way more work than doctors,
and if you say doctors do more work,
then you must be a doctor.
We're a good team just because we all
bring something great to the table.
I do CrossFit,
and I love CrossFit because it's
competitive and it's fun.
I'm a runner, so I run half marathons.
Endurance is mostly my specialty.
I weight train,
and I've actually gained 20 pounds of
muscle.
We play the floor as lava and we have
to jump up onto ropes and onto benches
and even the rigs sometimes.
I feel like having a nurse mom,
people think that we're like warm and
cuddly,
but it's more like put some dirt on it
and, you know, move on.
We're a lot nicer to our patients than
I guess to our children.
Oh my gosh.
They could do this.
Um, okay.
There's a lot of lava.
Hello, nurses.
As you make your rounds,
be sure not to fall because the floor
is lava.
And the nurses shift has begun.
Oh, wow.
Like, oh my gosh.
Like,
how the heck am I going to get up there?
Very carefully.
That is really high.
All right.
That looks pretty safe.
Let me see if this is safe.
Hold on.
Nope, that's not safe.
That looks slippery.
Okay, you're going to go that way?
She's going to go that way.
You're going to go that way?
Do you want to go that way too and I
try to go this way?
Yeah.
Yeah.
I think that's best.
I don't know.
Should I slide?
You don't want to slide all the way
down.
Okay.
Okay.
Or can you go here and then go to
there?
I don't know.
Okay.
Or step onto it.
Yeah, whatever works.
Okay.
Jessica getting into the game on the
wall of knives,
but she better keep an eye on her
footwork if she wants to stay out of
that lava.
Okay.
This is fine.
Mariah examining the pot rack.
It's going to be fine.
You can do it.
You can do it.
Okay.
You can do it, Mariah.
You got it.
She probably never had a pot rack as a
part of her CrossFit workout of the
day.
Get it, girl.
She got it.
She came.
She does know her way around a set of
monkey bars.
She's crushing it.
Okay.
The island is within reach.
Mariah struggles to operate on that pot
rack while Dr.
DJ had the prescription for success.
I will get this.
Let's hope she fares better than that
pot that just blew off the racket into
the lava.
Oh, code blue.
Code blew.
Nurse is down.
Nurse is down.
Mariah gets to the edge,
but there is no glory.
She might need a doctor,
as it's impossible to nurse that
landing back to health.
And no time for tears from these
nurses.
How the heck this is going to work.
Jessica focusing on her three-foot
move, oblivious to teammate Felicia.
And Felicia solos that dismount.
Oh!
Lava erupting like an emergency room on
a Saturday night.
Yes, she can.
The nurse succeeded with the
conservative route where the doctor's
brass choice ended with failure.
Oh, smart.
Felicia's using a drawer to cut down
the distance.
Do you want help?
No.
No.
You don't want help?
No.
Okay.
All right.
Here goes nothing.
Whoa, fake out.
You can do it.
Come on, come on.
Felicia's showing support.
Come on.
Kind of.
All right, cheese curd.
And she's off.
Gliding that Gouda to the dining table.
Staff.
Got it.
Oh, what a Gouda move.
That book is useless without the pizza
key that they overlooked.
But it doesn't matter.
There's still two stairs up.
Jessica needs to go now.
And she makes it.
Nurse Jessica finished the course
faster than Dr.
Raff, so the doctors are out.
Go back as far as you can on the table.
But with one team remaining,
the nurses need every point they can
get.
And she's on.
Look at that cheese go.
On.
Look at that cheese go backwards.
And that last stair is dipping below
the lava.
Felicia needs to harness the 20 pounds
of weight training muscle she's put on
and give herself a solid push.
A lot more momentum this time.
Can she?
She made it!
Yes!
Do you think you can make it?
But those exit stairs are gone.
With one team left,
the nurses need all the points they can
get.
Do you think you could jump to that
chair?
And then you could try it.
Oh, pizza is key.
But how does she get to the pizza?
Do you want to just try and get to the
chair?
Please try and do that route.
Just hug the back of the chair when you
jump on it.
Like try and straddle it.
Okay, no.
Push off the edge of the table instead
of the top so it's not slippery.
This is hard to watch.
Nothing good has come of those bar
stools.
Yes!
And she makes it.
I didn't know that was going to happen.
Felicia steps off the dining table and
onto the barstool only to find that the
barstool spin and that she stepped into
a trap.
Can you stand on the back of the chair
and reach that?
Felicia needs to get that key.
Gotta figure this out right.
No pressure.
You get it.
Just try.
Oh, another nurse is down.
A gutsy move from the nurse,
but that was doomed from the start.
And just like the doctor,
this nurse has flatlined.
By Felicia, even though they tied,
the nurses have beaten the doctors
because the nurses ran the course
quicker.
If the next team of party animals fall
in the lava,
the nurses could take this.
All we can think about it is just
hoping no one else makes it to the top.
The final team to attack the kitchen is
made up of three buddies who met in
high school who love to party.
Here are the party animals.
We're number one.
We're number one.
We're, oh, I hate you guys.
We met in middle school slash high
school.
Just did a lot of sports together,
football, track.
We started working out together when we
were probably around 16 years old.
And ever since then,
we've all haven't really stopped.
I can bench 405.
I've done it multiple times.
How useful it is to bench 405, I mean,
it's just more of a fun factor,
I guess.
I mean, I just like lifting heavy.
That's on his tender.
Yeah.
Hopefully we win and the other teams
suck.
We need this money.
We really want it to go to Cabo.
So we need this prize money.
El Boracho Buchachos.
Whoa, what the hell?
Are you kidding me?
Oh, no.
No.
No way.
Can we stand on these?
Hello, party animals.
This is not a drinking game.
I repeat, not a drinking game.
The rules here are pretty
straightforward.
Don't touch the floor because the floor
is nervous, guys.
You stand on that.
Oh, man.
Alex, is that doable?
Huh?
That's pretty doable, yeah?
I'm going for it.
Alex, desperate for a trip to Cabo,
taking on the wall of knives.
Where are my feet at, though?
You're good, left, left, left,
more points.
This team of party animals communicates
better than the nurses.
Okay, go.
Put it more so your right leg can be
there.
Put your left leg further.
Yes.
This one's a small one, so be careful.
Further, further.
Excellent teamwork by the party
animals.
But it'd be super cool if they let Alex
know there's still one more step he can
use.
He's just hanging there.
Drink in that upper body strength.
Oh, I made it.
You want to try this?
Yeah.
But I'm scared that thing moves.
Then how am I going to get over there?
How do we get it?
You have to go get the pizza.
Okay, so if you go this way,
you have to hold me.
We need to not stable this.
This is going to move.
Hold me.
Is it stable?
You got it?
Yeah, that's good.
You want me to hold you?
You want to go?
You're better at it.
Go tight.
Go tight this.
Lee is on and immediately goes for the
pot rack.
It's a spectacle of swinging skillets
as Lee utterly demolishes the pot rack
above him.
Wow.
Lee.
Should I go this way?
That's pretty hard, you know.
Hey, Alex, can you guide me?
Yeah.
Ryan doesn't lift weights like Lee and
Alex.
Oh, yeah,
come over here and then we can pull
each other to the other side.
The knife wall makes more sense for the
less sculpted, the less cut.
You know, like me.
That's where I would go.
And then you got another big one right
there.
The teamwork with these guys is
impressive.
We got a small one right here.
And the dismount is good.
You got a jump?
Because that's not that far of a jump,
guys.
You're going to go from the box to the
table?
Go to the oven.
What's in the oven?
It's a no, look at the sign.
Hey, Lee, it says pizza's the key.
So you need me to get the pizza?
Bingo!
Is that getting to that box easy?
I have to get to that box,
and I might slip.
Are we believing him?
But what you're gonna get to that.
You're gonna go all the way over there?
Do you boop.
If you think you can do it, but.
I can.
I might fall, though.
Watch out for the pants.
Careful.
Yes!
Lee made it!
Yet to get the thing to get the pizza
out.
Yeah, the pizza peel.
Checking the chickens for structural
integrity.
Good move.
Don't be worried.
It's hot.
Is it really?
Alright, hurry up.
We're hungry over here.
And he's got it.
There you go.
They could be the first team today to
use the key.
The key could be the difference between
one point and three points.
It's the key.
Who wants a pizza?
Toss it over.
Toss it over.
Dude,
what are we going to do right here,
though?
You have to get over there,
then use that to hop over.
Ryan helping his buddy Alex with that
three-foot move over the lava.
Just jump it.
You can jump on the chair of the table.
I don't know.
And now for the four-foot move.
He made it.
If you remember, Dr.
Jin did not.
Alex stepped lightly.
Dr.
Jen took a huge leap.
Years of trying not to spill a drink
pays off for Alex.
I'll wait for you to go so we're not
both on the table.
Found it.
Hey, guys, there's a key in here.
The key?
That's a key, all right.
Hey, don't go up.
Go straight.
What do you guys want me to do?
Hold on.
Alex takes the cheese train.
Not enough.
Come back.
Alex, hold on.
Hold on.
But it's not an express.
Lee, you can eat it.
Is there a way to get to the stairs
from there or no?
Or to that table?
I can go there.
I can meet you guys back there,
hopefully.
You might need to.
Do you want me to come back there?
Yeah,
this way it's easy if you can get past
the monkey bars again.
Lee adding time by going back across
the room could be a smart move.
Safer than those bar stools that took
out both a doctor and a nurse.
The party animals are behind the
doctors and nurses on time,
but this team still has three potential
points in play.
Let's go, Lee.
Let's go.
Let's go.
Let's go.
Open it up.
Wait.
Wait.
You gotta give them the key.
Go.
Go.
Come on.
The stairs are the secure.
Let's go.
We need the key.
I'm coming.
The stairs descending makes keeping the
key much more important.
Lee presses on.
He's the key to this game.
Let's go, let's go, let's go.
Let's go, let's go.
Watch out for those pants, man.
They hurt.
Ow!
Good, good.
I need drive.
Yeah.
Chill, come on.
Alright, so left foot,
put your left foot a little more.
I got it.
I'm a ninja.
Don't forget.
Stairs are gone.
Stairs are gone.
Okay, so we need the key.
We need the key.
Oh, Jesus.
Whoa!
Lee nearly went into the lava.
If Lee goes in, the key goes in too.
You want to go first or me?
It doesn't matter.
You go first.
Hey, make sure you keep your hands.
Let's go, Ryan.
Come on, Ryan, let's go.
Let's get it.
Four-foot move coming up.
There you go.
Oh, angry lava trying to take Ryan out.
There you go.
Run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run.
Actually,
that key is going to slip out.
Please, go back.
There you go.
Pull it back and then run with it.
You got to really pull it back and run
with it.
There you go.
Go, go, go.
You guys, ready?
Yeah, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go,
go.
Home stretch for Lee and the key.
Go, you're good, go, you're good.
Woo!
Here, open it.
Quentin all tucked in.
Yes!
Let there be a light!
Oh, we gotta push, we gotta push,
we gotta push.
The key shrinks that last leap from
seven feet to four feet.
That's a big difference.
Watch out, what the hell, though?
Is that it?
That's it.
The party animals only need to get two
of their team across to win.
Neither doctor nor nurse had the key,
but they still had stairs to help with
their exits.
You go first, nurse.
Let's go, baby.
Easy.
That trip to Cabo looking better every
second.
One point for the party animals.
Mike there, baby.
Let's go.
If Lee makes this, they'll win.
Fronto, there we go.
Lee scores point number two.
The party animals don't know it yet,
but they have won.
