You know, I've been teasing this musical experience for over a year.

It's not just a record though, you know?

It's a very, very special project.

It's a movie.

And it's also a whole behind-the-scenes of the journey that it took to get there.

You waited, but it's gonna be worth the wait, I promise you.

You guys waited such a long time, my little On The JLo crew.

Over a year.

So I just... I wanted to say thank you for being so patient.

It had to be perfect for you.

And, you know, something that's 20 years in the making,

it... you can't rush it, you know?

You have to wait till it's ready, when it's right.

And a lot of people along the way have asked me,

"What is the album like? What is it about?"

And I think you guys know.

- There was This is Me... Then... - Yeah!

20 years ago.

And this is This is Me... Now.

So you can kinda guess what happened both times

that made me write those records, I think.

What the inciting incident was.

Yes.

That bitch in love!

But it's not just that.

It's also about a whole life's journey.

It's about the thing in life that drives you as a person,

as a human being.

And the one thing that I always felt mattered the most in life, which is love.

And I always had questions.

You know, I always had questions. I'm like, "Is love real?"

I got my heart broke. "Is love real?

Does true love exist? Does anything last forever?"

And once I felt like I found the answer to that question,

I had to share it with all of you, and that's what this album is.

That's what this project is.

It's how you get from heartbreak back to love

and all the bumps and bruises in between.

And there were some bumpy nights.

This is called "Rebound."

way back when, for those of you who were with me at that time...

That was a huge record, and obviously I do it all the time,

but it was actually a little song.

But I was just thinking there are some youngsters in the room

who need to be educated on who LL Cool J is.

And don't act like if you've been with me all that time, you know.

We still look good though. We keeping it young.

But this record here... this record was number one for weeks.

And I remember LL calling me up and being like, "Can you believe it?

Our record is still number one!"

And I just remember little things like that, you know?

'Cause the whole experience of that album, that whole time in my life,

was such a beautiful time.

So many beautiful, lovely things happened to me.

And I know a lot of you out here have been to a lot of my shows

and so you know that when we do this, we do it together, right?

We do this one together.

You know, 20 years ago I wrote a very innocent song

about falling deeply in love with someone

in a way that you never have before.

And it had very simple lyrics.

Very simple lyrics.

But it got a lot of attention.

Because I decided to call it "Dear Ben."

So I knew, when I made this album, there had to be a part two.

That's such a happy song.

That's "Hummingbird."

You know, I wrote a lot of happy songs on this album.

It was so easy to write about happiness...

And hummingbirds and miracles...

'Cause it's not often you get a second chance in life.

You know?

Second chances are hard to come by. You gotta embrace it.

But there is another part of the story that needed to be written.

And that was much more difficult for me.

And that was about the struggle and the pain in between

that it took to get to the miracle, you know?

You know, some of these songs I wrote much quicker than others.

My whole team, we were in the studio vibing.

Ink is in the house. I see Ink there.

She helped me write almost every one of these songs.

And we were in the studio, right? We were just like, "I love you.

I love you more. No, I love you so much."

Love, love, love.

But this next song, I wound up taking away myself.

And I wound up writing it over and over and over a thousand times.

You know, when you're inspired, things pour out of you.

But when you have to dig a little deeper and look at those parts of yourself

that feel pain and devastation and, you know,

the trauma that lives inside us that we carry with us.

And I realized that this song just never felt quite right.

It just... It didn't flow in the perfect way.

But the truth is, that's not how life is, that's not how it works.

Sometimes that's not how love is.

It's this... It's a winding, crooked, fragmented road.

It gets dark at times.

And so the song had to be that way too.

And I had to get to a place where I realized...

Well, more that I had to admit to myself

that I was broken in a lot of ways.

You know, I was always so used to putting my best foot forward

in show business, you know?

Keeping that other part for myself.

I'm okay. I'm out here with you. Everything's all right.

And I was doing that for many, many years.

And it was okay.

But there was also a part of me that I was hiding from everybody.

We love you!

And I realized that I wasn't not only being honest with you,

I wasn't being honest with myself.

And so then I realized that I was broken and that was okay,

because there's something beautiful about those parts of ourselves

that we carry that have scars.

There's something really great about that because, you know,

you ever have a scar, like, right here?

And you're like, "Look what happened to me.

I fell right here."

And you're kind of proud of it in a way. You survived it.

And that's beautiful.

And sometimes those cuts are on the inside.

This song is called "Broken Like Me."

And the reason we're here is because I want to capture this moment in time,

'cause it is even better than the first time.

I think I learned a lot in those 20 years,

but the biggest thing was to accept myself, you know?

To finally get to a point where I can say, "This is me."

The messy parts, the broken parts, the beautiful parts, the strong parts.

"Imperfect and ever evolving, ever changing."

"This is me... Now."

It's the greatest love story never told for two reasons.

Because it's this incredibly epic-long love story about getting a second chance.

Yes, but it's also the story of learning to be in love with yourself.

That's the greatest love story never told.

Then, maybe a miracle can happen.

If you have lost hope, almost given up, don't.

Because true love does exist and some things do last forever.

That's real. And I want to put that message out into the world.
