and illegally digging
for the treasure

With the increasing number
of dig sites

they've found recently,

to come hard.

The only way we're gonna
get these trespassers
off our land

is through
the federal agencies.

Otherwise, we'll do it

to come to that.

And the biggest one
marks the cave.

the wagon trail up
to Crow Creek,

Chad, James

have located seven
stone pillars,

sometimes called
the Seven Sisters

or Dragonback.

That, according
to Mormon journals,
are a key landmark

that guards a cave
that will reveal
the location

of the fabled
Rhoades Mine.

we'll be able to get
a good look

at those caves we spotted.

We could get on top
of the rocks over there.

[Chad] At the downed tree,
hang a right.

According to legend
and clues left behind
by Caleb Rhodes himself,

there's supposed to be
a series of caves close
to the Seven Sisters.

And inside
one of those caves,

there's supposed
to be something
that looks like an eye.

Like a petroglyph
or a carving.

And if you stand
against that wall
and look southeast,

you should be able to see
one of the entrances
to the Lost Rhoades Mine.

[narrator] Caleb Rhodes' use
of the eye as a marker

was not the first time
an eye played
a significant role

in American history.

Since 1935, the back
of a US $1 bill

has featured a pyramid
topped off with
the all-seeing eye,

also known
as the Eye of Providence,

symbolizing divine guidance.

The all-seeing eye's origin
stretches back even further

to the late 1700s,

when it was adopted
by the Freemasons,

to remind them

that God is always
watching their actions

and seeing their thoughts.

Since their founding,

Mormons have also featured
the all-seeing eye
on their temples,

and some believe
the eye also points
to one of the seven entrances

of the Lost Rhoades mine.

down the cliff-face

to access the caves.

On the left, we have
a crazy, treacherous,
like, steep hill

covered in loose rocks.

I mean, it's a recipe
for a rock slide
right there.

And on the right,
we have a cave
right in the middle

of this super tall cliff.

So we either
have to climb up

or we have to lower
ourselves down
from above.

[John] We'll start
rigging up over here.

But that's why
we brought John along.

He's a climbing expert.

When we get down there,
we're gonna see if we can
get in that cave.

Maybe it opens up.
That'd be awesome.

[James] Should I help
feed it? Or you're good?

See, right now,
we're up to about,
like, 9,000 foot elevation.

And our drop is about
250 feet, so it's no joke.

And then I'll guide you in
from the ledge just below
the cave.

he will anchor the line

and use the rope
to swing Chad
into the cave mouth.

when I go in the cave?

You're looking
for the eye.

Apparently, it's either
etched in or it's
a natural feature.

this whole cliffside

looked like a face
with two eyes.

So right now,
it's all about
figuring out

if it's the left
or the right cave
that has the clue.

which might hold a clue
to the location of the fabled

So if I can get
in front of it,

we should be able
to get a good look inside.

The first cave
was so shallow

there was no way
you could stand in there
and look out.

with the right cave

but luckily we have
one more to explore.

The problem with the left side
is one wrong step

could trigger a rock slide.

sits at approximately
8,800 feet elevation.

And reaching it involves
a steep climb

through loose rocks
and sand.

just collapsed.

laying down helped.

I suddenly started
blacking out and sweating

and I couldn't
hear anybody.

You know, when I'm flying,
like in the airplane,
sometimes [bleep] happens,

like, if you pull heavy Gs,
all the blood can go down
to your feet

and you can just pass out
just like that, man.

So you gotta clench up

and to keep the blood
up top.

So when you laid down,

-I think the blood started
pumping to your head.

Instantly, it started
feeling better.

Couldn't breathe.
That's never ever happened.

You know, I'm not sure
if it was the fall
or the altitude.

I seriously thought
I may have been
having a heart attack.

They would've probably had
to call in a helicopter evac
for something like that.

The rest and the water
helped a little bit.

On the map, we can see
what looks like a ridge
and some taller trees.

I mean, that's clearly a ridge
and those tall trees run
right up the hidden canyon.

Yeah, I see it.

You'd have to be up here
in order to sit that.

[narrator] Following the gaze
of the eye cave southeast,

the team sees a hidden canyon
about two miles
across the valley.

That's where
we need to go.

Let's do it.

I thought I saw
something over there.

We'll catch 'em.

few days,

Charlie has been
surveilling the property,

hoping to catch
the poachers trespassing

onto Blind Frog Ranch,

so they can pursue
legal action and get them
removed from the area.

take you down here
to a spot where

I actually saw
something really weird.

And whatever it was,
I even got a photo of it.

This is it.

Right down there
in that body of water.

You know, I was patrolling
the property this morning,
doing some surveillance

and checking the trail cams
for trespassers and...
right down there,

in these weeds,
sounded like water moving.

And I was able
to grab my phone

and this is what I got.

But that's a huge...
whatever it is.

And there were no legs
that I could see whatsoever.

It looks like the tail
of its back here.

But that's only about
12 to 13 feet stickin'
out of the water.

The other half
is driving straight down.

I don't know
what in hell it was.

I've never seen
anything like it
in my life.

That's a serpent-looking
thing.

But it's got scales
like an alligator would,

all along its back.

But I'll tell you one thing.
It definitely wasn't
the trespassers.

a lot of mineralized rock.

some kind of a depression

like tailings over here.

All this crushed up rock
like this? That's not normal.

they were mining.

That was the overhang.

They blew that up

It's obviously something
important that they
covered up.

cold air coming out

Differences between
underground and surface
temperatures

create a pressure system

that can be used to estimate
the size of the cavern
network below.

Blind Frog!

Yeah, there... there's
something metal down here.

This is definitely
a mine shaft of some kind.

100% that was blown up
and covered.

They're hiding

of an ore cart rail tie
and a tailing pile of quartz

indicate that this
collapsed cave
was once a mine.

The question is,
could it be one
of the seven entrances

to the Lost Rhoades Mine

mentioned in Mormon journals?

We found all these
tailings all over
the place.

And then we find
this iron spike.

It's at least 19th century,
from all the oxidization
that has occurred.

It looks like
a collapsed mine.

This is an entry
into the underground system.

This is what
we've been looking for.

My God, this whole thing
is just gonna keep collapsing.

There's no way
I can keep pulling out
these little pebbles

and make any kind of headway.
It's gonna take
something bigger.

is with a major
mining operation.

We're in the middle
of nowhere.

This is an entry
into the underground system.

into the underground.

We might not be able
to get in here

but look where
this tunnel is pointed.

It goes down directly
towards the ranch.

This is just one
of seven entrances

according
to the Mormon journal.

The other six
could be off BLM land.

Maybe even on
our property.

connect to the Keyhole
Cavern system.

-Below Blind Frog Ranch.
-They're all connected.

the mine entrance blocked

and inaccessible
by heavy equipment,

the team will have to find
one of the other six
recorded entrances

closer to Blind Frog Ranch.

Blind Frog Ranch
is right down this way.

And the cave appears
to lead directly to it.

[narrator] By following
the direction of the cave,

they hope to be able
to locate where
and if it intersects

with the Keyhole Cavern
underneath the property.

[Chad] This trip was wild.

We rappelled down
this, like, 250-foot cliff,

looking for this cave.

You guys went rappelling
without us?

[all chuckling]

[man] You couldn't
handle this, Charlie.

[Duane] Charlie

But eventually,
it led us to a collapsed cave.

So we started getting
some of the rocks out

and feel, like, cool air,
like a breeze.

The cool air, to me,
means either there's
another entrance

where it's blowing air
through the whole system.

Or there's a much deeper
cavern system below

-that it's tied into.
-Exactly.

[narrator] The volume
of airflow in and out
of a cave opening

is an indication
of the size of the cavern
system below.

The larger
the cavern system,

the stronger the airflow
will be in and out
of the cave.

This is a geological
phenomenon known
as cave breathing.

This could have been
one of the entrances
to the Rhoades Mine.

But where
is this place?

Well, that's the problem.
It's on BLM land.

And this isn't just
like some easy process.

Like, there's huge boulders

and we'd have to have
a full-scale mining
operation there.

You know, fellas,
that's all good information,

but we can't get off
our property.

We know what claim-jumpers
are doing to us

and we don't wanna be
one of those ourselves.

But the bottom line is
that that's just one entrance.

seven entrances.

So if we can find out
wherever that tunnel leads,

maybe we can find
one of these other entrances.
