[Chad] So, we had three car down at the gate with big lights

and these two guys could've entered on foot. We don't know.

Right there we have at leas eight to ten people involve in this.

I am not trying to freak anyone out about this, I am just saying.

There's people out there trying to sabotage this whole thing.

I am telling you what, we don't need this,

before we're going down into that hole.

We need to check over it.

- Yeah, what else could they could've done. - Could they have sabotaged

[Duane] All the equipment by our dry cabin looks good

and we came up with a good plan last night.

So who knows what the next step is for whoever is watching us.

But our next step is to move forward

into that cavern at any cost.

- Let's go on either side, choke it through. - Okay.

[Eric] We got this open hole right here, it's uncased,

meaning it's just natural material all the way from total depth to surface

and up in nature, open holes don't want to stay open. They want to cave in.

And that's especially true at the top of the hole

where the soil tends to be less compacted and loose.

Watch that hole, man.

[Eric] I'm staying away from it, you direct it, yeah.

So our plan is to drop in two 48 inch diameter ten foot sections of casing

to secure the top part of that hole.

The first casing will go in

and then second piece of casing to push that first piece down.

That should keep it from caving in on top of us

because if that happens, we're dead.

but I am glad we spent the time to do it right.

Now, it's time for the hard part.

All the gear looks good so far.

Jamie's gonna be our man top side.

I want to make sure he knows this system, inside and out

because if anything goes wro down the hole, he is our only lifeline.

This is out first compressor. It's going to be shoving air down to three hoses.

We've got enough air to stay down there for 20 minutes.

The secondary is gonna be going to this compressor.

This one goes down we gonna use this compressor. You turn it on

and it will start feeding back the air into the system.

If something goes wrong with these generators

and that hole all goes down then you'll have ten minutes to get the last guy out

or he's dead.

- Right. - That's how it works.

What do you say we get our hoses right here and get 'em hooked up

and then we'll be able to put suits on and...

- start going down the hole. - Right.

Eric, how's those suits?

Yeah they're pretty stout.

Duane, this one's yours here.

This is Chad's.

So we brought in air tight hazmat suits to protect us from radiation in the cave.

This also means that we hav to have fresh air pumped int the suits so we can breathe

which brings its own set of challenges.

But with the risks we are facing, it's worth it.

-It looks good. -It feels pretty stout. I mean it is pretty solid.

I'll be carrying a multi detector on the outside of my suit

to be checking for H2S

which is probably my biggest concern besides radiation.

On inside of my suit I'll be having a detector

that can detect carbon monoxide and oxygen levels.

Flashlights.

- Got two right here. - We'll each need a flashlight.

- Okay, so we got three lights. - Okay, perfect.

I gonna need zipping up too.

- Are you ready? - Zip us up to about here, you shove the air in the back.

We'll get up to about here and we'll put the hoods on.

Chad's got a young family depending on him

so he will go down last and come out first

which will give him the best chance to get out if [bleep] hits the fan

We'll also be doing this without the filming crew.

Because more the people down there, the more problems

we'll have getting in and out of the hole fast.

So we'll have helmet cams and body cams.

And Chad have a little hand held so he can document what we see.

[narrator] H2S, also known a hydrogen sulfide, is a colorless, poisonous ga

that occurs naturally in sewers, oil and gas wells mines and even volcanoes.

It's heavier than air, so it settles in low spots, close to the ground.

Swift death can occur, even at low concentration.

In the last seven years there have been 52 fatalitie

attributed to H2S poisoning in the US.

We ended up using the hazmat suits for radiation protection

because we scanned the whole area and there's radiation all over that.

And thank God we did because if we wouldn't have had those suits on,

that H2S would have killed us all.

We get to the end of our air hose and Chad sees my H2S meter going off.

[Chad] You're blinking red.

I was just trying to go as fast as we could, not to hold anyone up.

Because the longer I take, the longer they're down there in the [bleep] cave with H2S.

I made the decision to be the first in and the last ou

you know, so it's not hard to think that you've lived a pretty good gig

and your son needs to carry on,

so, you know, I want him to be out.

If we go into harm's way it's a blessing that he goes in with me,

but I want him out.

But it's a good day to be alive.

This cave system, I mean, there are many different passages.

We chose to take one passage and at one point we get into this huge room

and on one corner of that room are these weird scratchings.

It's like tick marks that somebody has carved into the wall.

It's not a Roman numeral, it's some kind of accounting.

It could be an accounting of what was down there

and they're marking as it leaves.

We just don't know.

Somebody put those scratch marks on there.

Someone had to have been there.

[Eric] We never made it to the end of that cave system.

So we've got a lot more work to do in there.

- [Eric] That was a wild son of a bitch. - Yeah.

[Chad] Scary.

You know, this ain't no funeral.

I mean, it has so many different angles to it

and this is just a big-ass puzzle, is what it is.

But it's a good puzzle.

and we'll have a plan to fully explore this caver

and, hopefully, find a whole bunch of treasure.

Who knows how close we were to that treasure?

Millions of dollars of gold or who knows what else

could have been right around that next corner.

I'll tell you this much, waiting to get back out here and down in that cave...

You know, I'm pleased about what we accomplished and I think we can go back in

as long as we can put the engineering controls in place to neutralize

the hydrogen sulfide gas in there.

It's been an incredible journey this season.

I mean, finding that gallium down there,

that might just be the craziest thing I've dealt with

in my whole career.

Could the Aztecs really hav put it down there?

It's hard to say for sure.

[Jamie] And what else could be down there?

I got a feeling that the treasures in those caves

won't come out without a fight.
