First in's the last out. That's how it works.

And so I go in first, Chad will be last and first up.

He's got kids to raise.

If any of those items go off we have to extract ourselves immediately.

Maybe this will make more sense if we start at the beginning.

[narrator] Last season on Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch,

Texas wildcat Duane Ollinger discovered a two mile long cave system

deep under his property in the Uintah basin, a vast area in northeast Utah

notorious for its lore and mystery.

UFOs, skin-walkers.

It's hard to wrap your brain around what's going on.

We had some great discoveries last year.

And lot of good signs.

Huge signs. We could be right on top of this treasure.

And well, you know, hell, fellas,

even conservative estimate could be in the billions.

So, yeah, it's very good stuff.

But, um, Eric I know you worked your ass off on the iridium deal,

so tell us what you got.

Well, I went ahead and ran some of those samples that we took

We're looking at about 628 ounces of iridium.

Price of iridium today is about 5,600 bucks an ounce.

And so, we're sitting on about $3.5 million right there.

It's there. It's there for you.

That's really good stuff, Eric.

It's always gonna be there, but we got this [bleep] box and how knows what's in it.

And she's basically an Aztec expert.

If she looks at it and says that box is 50 years old

and there's no way the Aztecs could've done that

then we gotta go to plan b.

And then we become iridium miners.

But if she likes it, and says it is possibly Aztec...

There's not a man on earth gonna stop us from getting in there.

My dad doesn't want me to go in guns blazing.

But another side of me is like, "Let's suit up,

we have all the stuff here, and let's see what's in the box."

The whole iridium thing, that's cool or whatever.

But I'm not here to be some kind of miner.

That's not what I'm signed up for.

I mean, we're here to find the treasure and that's why I'm here.

So, we have a lot riding on this archeologist coming in.

It's kind of like make or break.

I mean, if she says it's not Aztec, it's like, "Arg."

That car was right here. I see the tracks.

[Duane] I was pulling up here to the gate and, uh...

there was a van, I mean, just sitting right there and still running.

You could feel the energy coming off that car.

I walked up to look in and, uh...

it was a bad deal.

There was a lady in it and, uh...

she had just shot herself.

- [Charlie] And the gun was in her lap? - Gun was in her lap.

Her face was painted up white.

And with black around her eyes.

I don't know what took place here, but...

This whole deal was [bleep] up.

[narrator] Blind Frog Ranch sits in the Uintah Basin in northeast Utah

only a few miles from the infamous Skinwalker ranch.

From more than a century, the area has be plagued

by documented reports of animal mutilations,

electromagnetic disturbances, bizarre sightings,

missing persons and mysterious deaths.

[man] Quiet a few things had happened around here.

The Skinwalker Ranch and the Blind Frog Ranch up there.

We've seen a few things.

Mutilations.

Something's out there.

I didn't believe until I lived here.

The Skinwalker Ranch area is kinda odd because...

things have happened.

When I'm prospecting, some places that I go

people had been killed.

- Charlie, what are you thinking? - Um...

Most likely it'll be ruled as a suicide.

To try to do an investigation it's gonna take some time.

We're gonna have to figure it out,

He's done a lot of investigation.

Well, that's who we need then.

We gotta play a different game, Charlie,

I just can't help thinking it's an omen. Of what's to come.

All I've been thinking about since the first snow last winter is this damn box.

What's in it? Who built it?

And why the hell it's on our property?

But my Dad's pretty clear on not spending extra time,

or more money to get that box out of there

unless we're 99% sure that it's worth pulling it out.

So I reached out to a couple of archeologists at some local schools.

And one actually came here to see what we have.

If she thinks it's Aztec...

we'll throw everything we have at it.

If I can even find it again.

So you saw the pond we have there?

That's where this footage came from.

We actually scuba dived down into this small cavern

and that's where we found this.

[woman] That's a pretty exciting find.

We know it's man-made, we just don't know by whom.

And we're just trying to see if it's connected to any certain era of people.

[woman] It does look kind of like how the Aztecs made rafts.

I mean, the Aztecs were master builders that made boats and canoes.

They usually used long logs just like that.

Let's take a look at some of the photos.

So this is what we know.

They were using ropes and reeds to bind it.

Something like that.

- [Chad] We can see there's similar building techniques. - Exactly.

And this is just a bigger scale of that right there.

Yeah.

[narrator] In 1519, Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortes

arrived in the Aztec capital of Mexico.

Meeting with the Aztec King Montezuma.

Cortes claims to have seen entire rooms filled with gold.

Cortes gathered an army of Spanish troops

to invade the Aztec empire and seize the gold.

But when he returned, the treasure was gone.

Legend has it that Montezuma dispatched 8,000 Aztec warriors and slaves

northward with the gold in hopes of establishing a new civilization

far from the reach of the Spaniards.

Many historians believe that the Aztecs made it all the way to Utah,

where the treasure was allegedly buried in a mountain

with seven caves and flooded with water to protect it.

If we could prove that the Aztec were here on this property,

that would be huge.

Yeah. But it's hard to say for sure.

Unless you can get down there and get some samples.

If you can get a sample of that wood, we can get it analyzed.

You ready for the rope?

[Duane] Check gear.

[Chad] Plenty of air, that's good.

[woman] We can see f that log came from a tree that existed during the 16th century.

[Chad] I'll just get my hands on the box,

get that sample and come back out.

Aztec lore says that all of these caverns have been booby trapped.

[Charlie] He's down in there.

[Duane] How deep you think, Charlie boy?

He's about 15.

We know Aztec created water traps.

It could be, as you start to pull those logs down,

walls start collapsing on you.

[Duane] So Chad's been down there about 20 minutes

trying to get his way back to the box.

I know he's been doubting himself

and thinks he's been lucky finding the box first time.

But I don't believe in luck, he'll get there.

'Cause we've got a lot riding on this core sample.

There's bubbles. Bring him up.

- What'd you get? - [Chad coughs]

I didn't get to the box.

I kept getting tangled up.

The hose was hanging on itself I go back try to undo it,

and that would get caught. God!

It kept jerking out of my mouth.

- Did you see it? - No I didn't see anything.

I got disoriented.

I thought the problem would be finding the box again.

But, come to find out, my air hose was getting stuck.

Last season we didn't have the problem of getting tied up but this season we are.

It should be right in there, but it's getting hung up on this and that.

- Everything was just grabbing on it. - Yeah, we don't need that.

We had to work out a system where Chad goes down with air hoses,

because the entrance of the cave is too small

to fit a grown man with scuba tanks on.

But if he's getting his air hose caught up right at the entrance,

that's no good. It's no good.

We're gonna have to get that core sample somehow though.

[Duane] We're on the same page. I can get you a good entrance.

I'll pop that shelf open and get more room.

Man, we can put a sub in there if we need to.

That's a sub.

If I can open up the entrance a little bit bigger,

then he can use a scuba tank and not get all tangled up with all those hoses.

My eyes are on the price and that's finding the box.

Figure out if it matches up with the Aztec treasure.

And if it does, we'll pull it out.

This is a Cat 336.

It would be about twice the size as the one we had last year.

So, twice the weight... but it can do four times the work.

I just wanna make sure that son of a bitch works.

We brought a big bucket with tiger teeth on it.

Those teeth right there, they'll chew through anything.

I got twice the arm length on this Cat, so I can go twice as deep.

Basically, we're gonna use this big bucket to chew through the rock.

And open that tiny little hole into a barn door where Chad can drop right in.

Then he can use a scuba tank and not be tied to air hoses.

Look at the bubbles, Chad!

That's it. It's in the hole right now.

[Duane] Now we're in it. Yeah, we're in it.

Ha-ha!

That's the casing right there that we put in it to keep the hole open.

[Duane] That's out, the whole deal!

And we're pulling it out now, so we're in the hole for sure.

You couldn't ask for a better scoop than that.

[Eric] I think the project has potential.

But, um...

I'm beginning to be a little bit concerned, I think.

Um, I mean, right now,

what we've got is a box of rocks under 30 feet of water.

And honestly, we shouldn't be diving into that cavern blind.

It's just too risky.

I know he's got a dream.

And I'll tell you, they don't always come true.

You know, there's a thing called "gold fever."

Um, I remember a project I was working on out in the Arizona desert.

And I spent the better part of two months hand-digging this hole.

But I never found anything.

I'd hate that to happen to Duane.

But I'll try to help him as best as I can.

So I'm gonna see if I can think of anything I can do to lower the risks here.

[Chad] We're giving it everything we got this year.

I can't stand the feeling of unfinished business.

Up here in the mountains, our window is so short.

So it's been six months since I've been back here.

And all I can think about is this pond.

This is our only way in, and we have to get back in there.

But the truth is, I don't even know if I can [bleep] get back in there.

It's like a maze down there.

I have no idea if I can even find it again.

I've only seen that box once.

I can't help but think I got lucky the first time.

And I kind of [bleep] it up.

The first dive of the year.

And now that the archeologists said that it could be Aztec construction,

the pressure is really on now.

And I'm the only one that can do this.

I've seen a lot of bad things.

So I just retired.

Sitting on my porch, looking at the trees and the birds.

Charlie calls me up.

Says he has something for me to look into.

But after 20 more minutes of looking at birds...

- [Jamie] Nice to meet you. - Nice meeting you.

He's gonna help me with some of the security around here.

- Good deal, we need it. - [Charlie] Yeah.

We've got some strange stuff going on around this place.

Yeah, Charlie's brought me up to speed a little bit, uh...

[Charlie] Let's take a kind of a tour of the ranch

and I'll get you familiar with the perimeters and...

I'll go get some stuff ready and we'll head out.

[Duane] Hey, Jamie, could I shoot the breeze with you a little bit?

- Grab a seat... - Sure.

[Duane] ...and let's walk through some of this stuff if you don't mind.

So here's the deal, I don't know how much Charlie told you.

There's one thing in particular I want you to focus on for starters.

About a month ago, we had a pretty wild episode at our gate.

It was a lady in a van.

And, um, she had just shot herself.

Right away, I noticed her face painted up white.

And she had a piece of paper pinned to her chest.

But it was like a message, or something, you know.

[Jamie] Oh.

She was still quivering at the time,

so it must have just happened.

I hadn't even had time to get to my phone and an ambulance shows up.

I don't know how to explain that.

It was almost like they knew she was there.

When you say they, you're talking the ambulance?

Yes.

They were by themselves.

And, uh, they walked right past me,

took her out and put her on a stretcher

and they wheeled her right by me.

They just had their focus, like I wasn't even there.

Well, for an ambulance just to pull up and grab her and go,

that's not protocol.

But, I'm not sure what you're asking me to help you out with here.

[Duane] What I would like to do is find out what is going on.

I mean there was a guy that tried to get

some information on that, but we never did.

His name was Dave Miller.

So, it's good you have the police experience.

I don't know where you wanna start on this deal, but be careful.

We do enough risky stuff as it is.

When you find a dead body on your property, it's a scary thing for anyone.

I've been an investigator for 30 years.

A lot of times, there's a simple explanation

for things that seem not so simple.

There's gonna be a quick explanation for this.

Uh, within a day or two, I should wrap this whole thing up.

Duane told me about that incident at the gate.

How legit is that?

[Charlie] Absolutely 100%, I've known him for 20 years.

If he tell you something, you can take it to the bank.

[Charlie] He's kind of freaked out over this whole thing,

since it happened on his property.

- You know, I just don't have time to do it anymore. - [Jamie] Yeah, well.

Pretty cut and dry.

I don't think it's gonna take me more than a day or two.

[Charlie] You know, Jamie thinks that there's probably an easy explanation.

But, uh, been my experience up here investigating things,

that it might take you a little bit longer than what you think.

Well, you just, uh, be thorough and, uh,

keep me informed and get after it.

Been so long since I've ran this damn thing.

Oh, yeah. I got video.

I'm gonna dive down.

Chad's first dive was a failure for a few reasons.

The way Duane solves problems, he takes a big machine and smashes up rocks.

I like to take a scientific approach

and use technology when it can help us.

All right, we're going now. We're on.

Bumping through it, anyways.

[Eric] Chad's been texting me all winter about that box.

I know he's on kind of a war path to get back there and learn more about it.

Bottom line is him just swimming around aimlessly,

not knowing where he's going, it's really dangerous.

So I just think we need to do a little more due diligence.

So I got an underwater LiDAR scanner which we'll attach to the drone.

It'll give us GPS data as it cruises through.

It shoots out millions of laser scans per second.

Those lasers bounce off the walls

and it measures the time it takes to come back to the unit.

All those millions of data points can be used

to build a 3D picture of the cavern.

That is how I think we get back to the box.

It's like a maze in there.

All right, there we go.

There, it opened up right there.

- Yeah, yeah. - See all in that area?

- Really opened up. - [Chad] Yeah.

Okay, okay. There's that little cave.

- Okay. - Let's see if I can get through there.

- That's it, that's it! - Is that it?

Let it settle right over the box so we get good numbers.

Now that we found the box, we can lock in the exact GPS coordinates.

And we can let the LiDAR collect as much data as possible.

Once we download the data, we'll see this wonderful 3D image underground.

Then, we'll be able to guide Chad to the box, we'll get the core sample,

and we'll be able to see how old that box is.

So then we'll know if we're on a box that's,

you know, 50 years old, worth nothing,

or if we're on a huge treasure.

And, um--

That was intense.

[Jamie] Duane asked me to find out who the woman was and what happened to her.

Why did she kill herself here?

So I've been making phone calls around town,

and nobody has a record of this death.

I don't understand how a woman can be found dead in a car,

and there's no crime scene, there's no investigation.

But according to Duane, they removed the body and left the car.

That car would have to have a paper trail.

I'm talking registrations, inspections, title transfers.

So this could be the next best starting point.

I got them all the way to the end of my yard here. So...

This is the, uh, county impound lot.

If the car that the woman shot herself in

on Duane's property was recovered,

it would have been brought here.

At least, it should have been.

that possibly could have taken in this van?

I mean, we're talking 30 plus miles away, so...

It just doesn't make sense.

The car. The woman in it.

It just doesn't disappear into thin air.

So where are they?

Who moved everything so quickly?

And so quietly?

And this is just the tunnel that leads to the box.

[Duane] You didn't tell us you swam that far.

It didn't seem like it was that far.

[Duane] I got 2 miles of caverns underneath the property,

and I've only mapped just a part of them.

But I still can't believe how far Chad swam down in there.

If the little [bleep] would have told me,

I probably wouldn't have let him back in.

You know, pardon the French.

All the way in the back chamber there...

it's the box.

That's amazing.

We opened up the hole big enough to get in the cave with scuba.

Now that we have the LiDAR map of the path down to the box,

there's nothing stopping us from going down there to get a core sample.

Do you have the tool?

[Eric] This core sample is key to the entire operation,

because if it proves that this box is from the Aztec era,

then Duane will go all in,

and he'll stop at nothing to pull that box out of the cavern.

And if it's not, then we're gonna become iridium miners I guess.

[Duane] You get a little more than 3,000 pounds.

Now that we have this map, I can track Chad's GPS location from up here.

And I can radio directions down.

Test, test. One, two.

Chad-Ro, can you hear me?

This is a good deal.

It'll... It'll make it where he can get right down to the box.

He has never been afraid of going into harm's way.

It's still risky, that's for damn sure.

But tracking his location on the map here,

and sending down with scuba,

I feel a lot better about our approach.

Chad-Ro, you got a sharp right turn ahead of you.

Hang an easy left, Chad.

Chad-Ro, you're about 10 to 15 foot away from a huge opening.

You're there, Chad.

You're on top of it.

[Chad] First time I was trying to find the box,

it was just a huge cluster [bleep].

This time, everything worked out perfect.

And it was an absolute relief to actually find it again, see it again.

A lot of stuff was going through my head

of all the things that could have went wrong, and it went perfectly.

No dying trying today, man.

[laughs]

[Chad] Whoo!

I got it.

- You got it? - [Chad] Yeah.

- [Eric laughs] - [Chad] Gonna hand you something.

- [Eric] There's a lot riding on that sample right there. - Yeah.

[Eric] In order to carbon date the age of that box,

Chad had to get at least 4 inches into that wood.

So I sent him down with what looks like a giant wine opener basically.

You may have seen this method used

for age determination of living trees.

But for us, this allows Chad to get into the undisturbed portion of the log.

And that sample will tell us just how old this log really is.

Put on some gloves here so I don't cross-contaminate anything.

[Duane] What's in that orange tube

will tell us exactly what we're gonna do to move forward.

If the box is 50 years old,

I'm not gonna spend a bunch of money trying to pull it out.

But if it's 500 years old, it matches up with the Aztec treasures.

And we'll know if we're sitting on something huge.

And we'll spend everything we've got,

do everything but kill ourselves to get it out of there.
