[Tim] Then let's follow this hamster to her burrow.

[Emma] Wow! There are so many rooms in here.

Aww, look. A room full of babies.

[Tim] That's right, Emma.

Hamsters have special rooms for different things in their burrow.

This one is the nursery.

[Emma] Aww.

Mom is making them a soft grass pit.

She's so sweet, let's call her...

Hailey.

[squeaking]

[Emma laughs]

[Emma] Aww, she's sleepy.

[rustling]

[Emma giggles] That's a funny way to wash yourself.

[Tim and Emma laughing]

[Emma] It's time to play tag. They're so fast.

[Tim] They have to run fast in the wild, so they don't get caught by predators.

[Emma] That lil' guy went too far.

I'm going to call him Zigzag.

[squeaking]

[Emma] A little tinkle before being tucked in.

[lively music]

[Emma] Goodnight.

[alarm ringing]

[squeaking]

[light music]

[Emma] Oh, no!

Not again, Hailey.

[Tim] Don't worry.

She's gonna save them in her cheeks for her babies.

[Emma] So her cheeks are like pockets.

[playful music]

[Tim] She has to stuff them though,

'cause her babies eat a lot.

[Emma] Aww, they've gotten so fluffy.

[munching]

[snorting]

[squeaking]

[bright music]

[Tim] Zigzag needs to eat a lot to get bigger.

He's gonna need grains, berries, and eggs.

[munching]

[rustling]

[comical music]

[squeaking]

[Emma] Hey, now.

There's more than enough to share, Zigzag.

[Tim] He's more than interested in somersaults anyways.

[laughing]

[rustling]

[light music]

[squeaking]

[Emma] Zigzag is so big now.

[Tim] Hm, maybe I'll try this.

[comical music]

[Emma] If I were a hamster,

I'd think there's too many choices for snacks.

[rustling]

[laughs] [Tim] Oops.

[Emma] He may be grown-up, but he still runs to his mama.

[Tim] She's always keeping an eye on him.

[quirky music]

[Emma] Those greedy little tricksters.

[Tim and Emma laughing]

[rustles]

[squeaking]

[comical music]

[squeaking]

[Tim] Sun's coming up. Everyone back in the burrow.

[Tim sighs]

What a busy day.

[dreamy music]

[Emma] Sleep well, Zigzag.

[calm music]

[light music]

[frog croaking]

[Emma] If I were an animal, I'd wanna be a toad.

[sloshing]

[Emma] Huh, are those marbles?

[Tim] Those aren't marbles. Those are toad eggs.

It's amazing.

One mom can lay up to 8,000 eggs at a time.

[Emma] Wow, that's a lot of babies.

[dreamy music]

[Emma] I'll call this little guy Tony.

They feed on small plant matter called algae.

[Emma] You mean that green slimy stuff?

Ew.

[Tim] Look, this is how tadpoles grow up, but fast forwarded.

[Emma] So that's how they get from tadpoles to toads.

[Tim] Exactly. We can see that his legs are starting to grow,

which mean he's five weeks old.

[Emma] He looks a lot more like a toad now.

His transformation is complete.

[lively music]

[Tim] It's time for him to move on to land.

[croaking]

[Emma] Are these all of Tony's brothers and sisters?

[Tim] Yep! Now that they're starting life on land,

they'll go off on their own adventure.

[Emma] But where's Tony gonna go?

[Tim] He'll find a garden,

and it looks like Tony will make this stump his new home.

[slurping]

[Emma] After one year, he sure is gonna find a hiding spot.

Do you think he's gonna celebrate his birthday?

[Tim] Actually, toads are awake at night, so this is his morning.

And you're right.

He's got his eye on a special treat tonight.

[croaking]

[Emma] Yuck!

I wouldn't want that as my birthday cake.

[Tim] You might not.

But now that Tony is older, his diet is made up of creepy crawlies.

Where is he going now?

[Tim] Just wait, you'll see.

[Emma] Tony, look out!

[playful music]

[croaking]

[Tim and Emma laughing]

[Emma] Tim, why isn't he hopping?

[Tim] Because he's a toad, not a frog.

Toads walk, and frogs hop.

[bull bellowing]

[Tim] It takes a lot of energy for him to hop.

[bull groaning]

[Tim] So he only does it when he's startled.

[croaks]

[Emma] You're so sneaky, Tony.

[fly buzzing]

[Emma] Oops! [giggles]

[croaking]

[playful music]

[Emma] Oh, is he trying to cross the road?

[Tim] Yup.

[suspenseful music]

[engine rumbling]

[Tim] It's a good thing we have crosswalks, unlike poor Tony.

[tense music]

[Emma] Oopsie.

[Tim] Tony wanted a piggyback ride, but someone else beat him to it.

[croaking]

[playful music]

[Emma] Where are you taking us, Tony?

[Tim] You'll see soon enough, Emma.

[Emma groans]

[Emma] But I wanna know now, Tim.

[chuckles] [Tim] We're almost there.

[croaking]

[playful music]

[dreamy music]

[Emma] If I were a toad, I'd love to walk around in the rain.

[Tim] You would!

The rain makes Tony's skin all stretchy.

[trickling]

[Emma] Gotcha! A yummy, crunchy beetle.

[gulps]

[Tim] This is it, Emma. He's arrived.

[Emma] He went back to the place he was born!

[Tim] That's right.

Except now, it's time for him to make a family of his own.

[croaks]

[sloshing]

[Emma] I think he found his true love.

[Tim] I think so too. Congratulations.

[croaking]

[Emma] Can't wait to meet your new family, Tony!

[light music]

[lion growling]

[Tim] If I were an animal, I'd wanna be a lion!

I'd be the king of African savanna.

[Emma] That sounds like the life for me.

Look, Tim. He has three little lion cubs.

[Tim] He does. Two sons and a daughter.

[Emma] I'll call them Lucas, Leo, and Kiara.

[giggles] And they look like kittens.

[Tim] You're right, Emma. Baby lions are felines.

So they're just like our kitty-cats.

[playful music]

[growling]

[Emma] Aww, what a sweet family.

[Tim] They sure are.

Lions are the only felines to live in a pack.

And it's always the male lion who protects his family.

[growling]

[calm music]

[birds chirping]

[Emma] Does Lucas lie close to the ground to be sneakier?

[Tim] Yep!

[Tim laughs]

[Tim] Good job. You almost had them.

[growls]

[Emma] What do you see, Kiara?

[gasps] [Emma] An elephant? Really?

[upbeat music]

[trumpets]

[Tim giggles]

[Tim] I think it was a bit too big for you, Kiara.

[elephant trumpets]

[light music]

[playful music]

[roars]

[Emma] Aww, look how snuggly they are.

[Tim] Normally, the male lion doesn't get too close to the babies.

It's usually the mother who raises them.

[growls]

[comical music]

[Emma yawns]

[Tim and Emma laughing]

[Emma] It's time for the king's royal nap.

[Tim] That's right.

Lions have to sleep for at least 20 hours a day.

[Emma] Where is she taking them, Tim?

[Tim] She's gonna show them her hunting skills.

[Emma] "Come on, kids!

Mama's gonna show you how to hunt for zebras."

[suspenseful music]

[Tim and Emma chuckling]

[Tim] "Did I miss something?"

[Emma] Looks like they had a really good time.

[purring]

[Tim] "Oh, boy. I think I ate too much."

[Tim and Emma laughing]

[Emma] If I were a lion, I'd wanna nap after feast like that too.

[snipping]

[cracking]

[Tim] Wow, look how much they've grown!

[Emma] Even though they aren't cubs anymore,

they still love to play.

[rustles]

[growls]

[Emma] Aww, snuggles.

[roars]

[playful music]

[Tim] No, Leo!

That's a pangolin, not a ball.

[playful music]

[Emma] Oh, what a weird-looking creature.

[light music]

[roars]

[Emma] Wow, Lucas and Leo look so much like their papa now.

[Tim] It's the mane.

It start to grow when they're three years old.

But there's a lot more growing up to do before they're real kings.

[calm music]

[roars]

[purring]

[Emma] Well, we sure can't confuse them with Kiara anymore.

But they still do everything together, just like us.

Yep.

[Emma] See you later, lions.

[calm music]

[jackal howling]

[Tim] If I were an animal, I'd wanna be a jackal.

[Emma] Aww, look, Tim. It's a big happy family.

[Tim] That's right, and they've got a whole bunch of babies.

[growling]

[Tim and Emma] Aww.

They even have a big brother, just like you do, Emma.

[Emma] Looks like he spoils his sister too.

[lively music]

[Emma] I'm going to call him Jack.

[Tim] And who gets to be in charge when mom and dad go off hunting?

The eldest.

[Emma] They've got the same rules as we do at home.

[whines]

[Tim] "Where did those little ones go?"

[Emma] "Peek-a-boo!"

[Tim] You know, it's not easy being a babysitter.

[Emma] "Here we are."

[whines]

[Tim and Emma chortling]

[yipping]

[Tim] He's taking his mission seriously.

He’s even got his friend, the hare, to help keep a watchful eye.

[whimpers]

[barking]

[growling]

[Emma] What? Tired already?

[whimpering]

[Tim] These kids are a real pawful.

They never seem to run out of energy.

[whines]

[woofs]

[snorts]

[barks, whines]

[boar groans]

[laughing]

[Tim] Quick, everybody. Hide!

Hyenas and jackals don't get along.

[barks]

[Emma] Come on, guys. It's time to listen to your big brother.

[growling]

[Emma] Let's cheer him on.

Go, Jack, go!

[snarls]

[Tim] See how clever Jack is?

He's attacking the hyena's weakest spot where it will hurt the most.

[Emma] Good work. You're my hero.

[howling]

[howls, barks]

[Tim] "Who's the toughest? We are."

[yipping]

[Emma] Here comes mom and dad.

They're here to congratulate him.

So cute.

[Tim] And he even gets a special reward.

"Hey, that's not for you, little ones."

[comical music]

[yelps]

[whimpers]

[Emma] I guess it's time for a well-earned lunch break.

[upbeat music]

[barks]

[Emma] Jack's all grown-up now.

Is he off to his own adventures?

[Tim] That's right, Emma.

No need to watch over the little ones anymore.

[Emma] If I were a jackal, I'd go on long walks in the savanna.

[Tim] Jack spotted something yummy, but he's gonna have to wait his turn.

[Emma] He's not gonna steal the lion's lunch?

[Tim] Not until the lion leaves.

It was his kill, so he gets first dibs.

[bird squawks]

[cawing]

[barks]

[growling]

[Emma] Now a cheetah is having some too.

[Tim] That's right.

In the wild, the stronger animal gets the meal.

So now, Jack has to let her have it.

[Emma] Oh, she's just trying to feed her babies.

[thumping]

It's time for him to find his own food.

[barks]

[rustling]

[Emma] Oh, look! He's making a friend.

[Tim] More like a girlfriend, if you ask me.

[Emma] A romantic dinner and a kiss.

[romantic music]

What a perfect couple.

[howling]

[crying]

[Tim and Emma] Aww.

[calm music]

[yipping]

[Emma] You were a great babysitter, Jack, and you'll be a great dad too.

[Tim] So long, sweet little jackals.
