uh, which is a mixture of ketamine with MDMA.

And we're seeing a lot of counterfeit goods.

We gotta be on our toes because if we don't stop it, it's gone.

And from the 20,000 packages we may flag maybe 100 to 150 of them.

And we come out and we examine those packages.

that recently crossed over from Mexico.

see if we can identify the car early on and land it.

And we are gonna try to get out on it

and see if we can figure out where it's going.

And then try to intercept the drugs

and identify the other people involved in the smuggling event.

Because these are typically moving targets,

speed is the key in terms of getting out on the road as quickly as we can.

The majority of the last five years has been in the field here in San Diego.

We've been running operations several times a week.

Long days and long nights, making a difference.

We've had cases go as, as far as the northern ends of,

of California, into Arizona

and as far as Michigan, New York, and North Carolina.

We, in many cases spend more time together,

uh, than we may with our families.

We're trying to stop as much as this as we can

before it even gets farther away from the border.

But in many cases, they're in the doors or they're in some part of the frame.

So it's possible, if he knows

where the drugs are in the car, he could be inspecting.

And now he's getting back in again.

Into the driver's seat. He had his phone in his hand.

I couldn't tell if he was texting or talking to it.

This driver could be waiting for instructions to go someplace else

or another driver could come into the area and take the car from him,

what we call a "driver swap."

So we just sit and watch.

This is probably gonna be a few ounces, but let me go weigh it.

If an HSI agent wants to come talk to them and see if we can prosecute 'em.

It could be some jail time, little jail time, probation.

But, yeah, there is gonna be a consequence regardless.

so it can easily get into the wrong hands.

My guess is both of those are empty

and that'll be his concealing method.

That when he returns the car he can move it back into his personal car.

drugs, medication, counterfeit items

Counterfeit goods, or intellectual property rights violations

are a big black market business

for a lot of, uh, transnational criminals.

So we, we make sure that anything that comes into the US is legitimate.

Usually, because they're trying to circumvent

the screening process, they don't usually declare the actual item

and the value of the item.

And this is because they don't wanna pay duty.

Once it goes to an appraisal, those are our experts at CBP,

when they can officially make a judgment call,

they're typically your smaller loads.

Fentanyl has a high price point on it, to where they don't have to smuggle in

huge quantities of it to make a, a decent amount off that over here.

The human element is a huge aspect of it.

So I like to pay attention to their body language.

I'm always watching for any nervous tic or anything.

Every once in a while, you'll get somebody

that stands out to you, to where you're like,

"Ah, you look out of place, buddy."

Something is up with this guy.

His, his eyes have been real shifty

while he's been waiting in line this whole time.

Once he would notice you looking,

he would kinda try to hide behind somebody real quick.

And, heh, so he was real, real suspicious, kind of.

So, I'm gonna grab him real quick.

put it on the test kit and...

and then the test kit will let us know if it's THC or not.

It's turned purple. So, it did test positive for THC.

We'll seize the vape pen.

It's still illegal to cross with,

um, a national border with it.

He knew it was illegal to cross with it, so this traveler will be penalized.

Since you, 'cause you concealed it,

you didn't declare it,

you are gonna be, uh, fined for it.

So you're gonna get a promissory note

since you don't have the funds on you right now

to pay within 30 days.

How much is it?

About $500. So, that's mitigated from a thousand.

they use this for money laundering purposes,

to finance terrorism, narcotics, and child labor.

with a body carrier.

in this smuggling event in custody.

Uh, we hope that evidence and interviews

that we do will lead to other leads in this case.

And we're happy that the drugs didn't make it onto the street.

Right now, we're gonna take it back to one of our facilities

for weighing and testing.

We found a bundle internal.

We just came out of the bathroom.

We did find another bundle within her bowel movement.

She claims that she does not know what she was carrying inside of her,

and that she does not know if she has any more bundles inside.

It changes the whole dynamic.

In the beginning, it was just a body carrier.

Now, it's more dangerous.

Coming around.

Since it is life-threatening, we, we do have it in a, in a high-risk.

If one pops, you know, they can go into shock,

causing your internal organs to shut down.

So, we gotta get her checked out as soon as possible.

I'm gonna get a bottle of water.

Maybe get her a cover too.

She seems like she's cold.

We have the narcotics that we found

on the, uh, the violator, and in her.

And we're gonna be testing it.

I don't know if it's fentanyl.

I don't know if it's cocaine. I don't if it's heroin.

But this will help confirm what it is.

That red line is giving us a positive indication

that we are indeed dealing with fentanyl.

So what we need to do now is we need to determine the total weight.

This is important for the investigation, also for prosecutional reasons.

We have 147.7 grams of fentanyl.

This is far beyond any type of personal use narcotic,

She'll be looking at some serious time trying to get this into the United States.

We told her it was fentanyl. She didn't know.

She thought it was cocaine. It's fentanyl. She almost threw up. We have to go.

We have to transport her to a local medical facility

and make sure that she has nothing else left inside of her.

We have a duty to protect the community. So when we get the stuff at the border,

this stuff isn't getting into the communities,

it's not getting into the schools.

And it's going to prevent further smuggling

deeper into the United States.

We brought this to the port.

Uh, it's safer for us in, uh, a more controlled environment.

We're gonna test the drugs and, um, weigh them.

It's likely methamphetamine.

The San Diego ports of entry are, uh, responsible for more than half

of the country's entire seizures of methamphetamine.

So it's very, very common.

But we'll need a confirmation that that's what we're dealing with.

Cutting into one of the packages and then we use these, uh, test kits.

They're these chemical reagents that will, um,

react to a certain color if it tests positive

for the characteristics of methamphetamine.

Yeah, that's methamphetamine.

It's about as much of a match in color as you're gonna get.

across about 90 packages.

If we didn't intercept this,

then it would've hit one of their distribution hubs

and then delivered anywhere in the country

that you can think of.

So, any time that you can take drugs off the street,

put bad guys away, and nobody gets hurt,

that's a great day.

Today was my last operation with the team.

I'm headed to D.C.

I love being on this team. I love watching them grow.

And we spend a lot of time together, both on and off duty.

So that'll be hard, but we have to continue to fight

and dismantle these networks.

These drugs are harming real people.

They aren't numbers, they aren't statistics.

They have names, they have families.

Failing is, is just never an option.
