Gotta say, I never delivered a keg to a guy with no cups--
Oh! Okay. Um, there we go.
Thank you. Yeah, I'm sure you've got places to go.
-Okay. Thank you. I'll-- -Door's right here. Thank you.
All right. (chuckles)
Hey! Come on! Hurry up.
-He's gonna be here any fucking minute. -(chatter)
-Hi. -Hey. Thanks for coming.
-(chattering excitedly) -All right, guys.
Look, I know this is secret, but I promise you,
it's going to be worth it, all right?
-(chattering continuing) -Okay, guys, listen, listen. So, so--
-I'm kind of drunk, but I could-- -(chattering continues)
Hey, hey! Sh-Shut the fuck up!
(inhales)
I found him.
Who?
Graham Husker.
The... Graham... Husker?
Yes.
So, he's, like, buried here?
-No. No, he-he's alive. -Where?
-(scoffs) -Oh.
Shut the fuck up, dude. This isn't funny.
I know, I know it's not funny because it's true.
That guy's been missing for, like, 20 years.
-Logan: Twenty-four! -I'm sorry, what are we talking about here?
-Graham-- -Oh, hey! So, um, it's 1993.
U2 wins again for best album at the Grammys,
and Bono gets up on stage and he says,
"The best record of the year was made
"by a 16-year-old kid named Graham Husker.
His album is entitled The Murderer"--
And everybody's freaking out because nobody knows who that is.
And the next day, people are scouring the record stores,
and there's no Graham Husker!
And this is before the Internet! Nobody knows what's going on!
All these bootleg cassettes start making their way around,
and it starts spreading like wildfire--
My dad actually got one when he was in college!
That's how I first heard it.
It was this raw, basic, acoustic five-song EP--
It was like a rock opera, on an acoustic guitar,
about a boy who loved his mother so much...
and she loved him, and then it all went bad.
-'Cause in the story, the boy fucking kills his mom. -Mm-hmm.
-So fucking awesome. -Dark as shit.
And so, he can't take the pressure of fame.
He's like this crazed, fucked-up loner.
And then, in 1996,
they find his car, smashed to shit
on this bridge over this raging river,
and he's nowhere to be found.
There's just a note in his car and it says,
"I am not a musician."
Wow. You guys are really excited about this.
Guys, guys, guys! Here, get this! Sit down! Sit still!
So I'm at The Turtle, right, for open mic night,
and then he comes up and he performs on stage,
but it's under a fake name, Gary Horton.
Gary Horton, Graham Husker.
And he looks completely different, all beat to shit,
but goddamn, that fucking...
that voice...
that voice was unmistakable.
And so, like, after I finished freaking out,
I went up to him, and, of course,
he denied it over and over again,
but then I just-- I just looked him square in the eyes...
and I said... (sighs)
"Your music meant so much to me,
and I just want you to know that."
-That is so fucking awesome! -Anyway,
so he blew me off, right? But get this shit.
I'm walking to my car,
and he comes running after me, and he says,
"I want you to gather
"four people and yourself,
"no more, no less.
"I want you to get a keg of Keystone Light...
"and I will perform the album for you,
live tonight."
-I swear, if you're fucking with me, man, honest-- -(door creaks)
(chuckles nervously)
M-Mr. Husker.
It-it's an honor. I...
just... (clears throat) wanted to say what an honor it is...
