That must have been really scary.

My mom was up in Montreal for a medical conference.

Paul was off with Doctors without Borders

and they couldn't get ahold of anybody but me.

Took me 24 hours to get through customs and get home

and the whole time I was traveling

I had no idea what was going on.

But, after that I just kind of canceled everything.

You know, at first it was just temporary,

I wanted to be there for recovery and everything

and of course Mom and Paul came back

but after a while it just sort of made sense that I stay

and help with rehab.

They were both really busy and I didn't have the shop yet.

And you're caring by nature.

I don't know about that.

Well, I do.

Well, anyway, a couple years went by,

it seemed like he was kind of on his feet again

so I felt like it was safe to travel.

I was gonna go to Ireland and Wales.

The day I was supposed to leave he had another cardiac incident.

I didn't hear about that.

Oh yeah, well thankfully it was just a complication

of his medication so he was ok, but it really spooked me

and I just couldn't go after that.

I know it doesn't make any sense but I just couldn't leave him.

Well, I understand.

Well, Grant didn't.

We fought about it a lot.

And then he planned this trip to Belize without telling me.

Even after knowing everything that's going on with your dad?

It was just kind of our breaking point.
