Original subtitles

Do you know Jesus?

Well, I didn't.

Not until he found me in a world full of misfits.

In that life,

following Jesus became a liability fast.

So I left and set out to right the one wrong I could.

Little did I know this journey would change my life forever.

Can I help you?

Are you Mike Brighton?

I might be.

This your tank bag?

No.

What is it that you want?

You know Jesus?

No.

Thank you.

A few dozen Mike Brightons later,

can't say I'm much closer to findin' the right Mike,

but I'm trustin' the Lord has a plan for me.

Well, where do you want me to go next?

All right, I'll choose.

I know there's no shortage of folks that need the kinda help

I could give.

Now, I'm not saying I'll ever come close to the work

that Jesus did, but I am willing to take his lead.

Hey, like your bike.

Thanks, I like it, too.

Sell it?

No.

Sure?

Yeah, I'm sure.

Homes, don't wanna sell the bike.

You know Jesus?

Oh, Jesus.

Yeah, I know Jesus.

Jesus, he wants to know you homes.

No, man, Jesus.

Hey, man, you gotta move your truck.

You're right.

I gotta go.

When I'm ready.

I need you to reach.

Move once and I'm gonna bury you.

I guess no one around here knows Jesus.

So why you think they went after him?

Oh, Jake.

His dad owns a good chunk along the border.

Put up his own fence, patrols it himself.

Probably why they targeted his kid.

There's kidnappin's every month up and down the border.

Cartel, coyotes, gangs, extortion, retribution.

It's a good thing you were there.

I guess so.

We good here, sir?

Yeah, we're good.

All right. Take care.

You okay?

Yeah, I'm good.

I'm Simon. Jake.

Hey, thanks for steppin' in the way you did.

No problem.

Anything I can do to help, let me know.

Actually, lookin' for a few day's work just to make some

gas money to get down the road if you know anybody lookin'.

Yeah, my dad, he's got a ranch.

We're always lookin' for extra hands.

I'm an extra hand.

All right, cool.

Just follow me.

Cool.

Boy, it's about time you got back.

My cows have been waitin' on ya.

Dad, I left you a message.

Boy, don't give me any lip.

Give me a reason you're two hours late this time.

Couple guys tried to kidnap me.

Apparently they didn't.

What's this fella got to do with it?

Well, he beat the crap outta them.

Is there anything I can do for you?

I could use a few day's work.

Got plenty of that.

Pays $100 a day, plus room and board.

My name's Simon.

JM Sterling.

You can call me Mr. Sterling.

Yes, sir.

Jake, put him to work.

Let's finish this up.

Hey, Dad wants to see you at the house.

Well, come in.

Jake said you wanted to see me?

Where ya from, Simon?

Not much of anywhere anymore.

Family?

Bible says, "Those who do the will of my Father,

"are the same as my brother, sister, and mother."

Jake said you took apart those thugs pretty good.

You have experience in that?

I served my country.

I never thanked ya for what ya done.

Still haven't.

What ya drinkin'?

I believe I'll just take water.

I'm just drinkin' sweet tea.

I'll take sweet tea then.

Want some tea?

Nah, I'm good.

What about you, sir?

You have any more family than just Jake?

Wife got tired of the ranchin' life.

The other kids left with her, 'cept for Jake here.

Couldn't stomach this part of the country,

and all that comes with it.

The problem with that, if everybody runs north like that,

pretty soon, the southern border's gonna catch us.

"The Earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof,

"the world and all that dwell therein."

Are you gonna keep quotin' Bible to me every time

I ask you a question?

Honestly, sir, I just feel like we should

do good everywhere we can.

As I recall, one of the goods in the Bible is

to protect the sheep from the wolves.

There's sheep on both sides.

Oh, I agree, and we're gonna protect our own.

Can't get caught up with what's goin' on on the other side

when we haven't got it together over here.

Respectfully, I disagree.

You see, son.

That's how real men act when they disagree.

Well, we got cows to hay.

Thank you for the tea and for the job, sir.

My Catalina.

Hey, I brought you dinner.

You weren't here, so I went for a walk.

What are you doing?

I'm out of the club.

Well, that's a good thing, right?

It wasn't received well.

What happened?

I hurt Ringo,

pretty bad.

He came at me, we got into it.

So what are you gonna do?

I have to leave town.

It's the only way to keep you safe.

Go to the police, make a deal.

They won't make a deal, not against the club,

and certainly not with me.

No!

Let me talk to them.

I can't let you do that.

I'm not some innocent angel.

You don't know them.

I know you.

They are not me.

Your way of dealing with things has got you into this,

so let me try.

I'll tell 'em that I haven't seen you.

Jake's gonna give you a tour of the perimeter,

show you what we're protecting.

Give you a little taste of what it's like in border country.

I take it we're not just lookin' for lost cattle.

You take it right.

I'm not killin' anyone.

I'm not askin' you to.

I don't want the district attorney knockin' on my door

with a warrant for murder.

You bring 'em in alive.

If you can't, we done the best we can

with the laws we're given.

You boys be safe.

You ever killed anyone?

Me and Dad were runnin' fences.

This is back when we were patrollin' at night.

We come across this ridge,

and spot a campfire in the valley below.

It's just three men, cookin' a rabbit,

with the fur on, guts in.

If I was in that kinda hurry, I'd a just eaten it raw.

We got close enough to them that we could smell burnt hair

before we made ourselves known.

It gets a little fuzzy after that,

but the next thing I remember,

one of 'em's on top of my dad.

One of 'em ran off, and

the third one's comin' at me,

swingin' a machete.

Just total loco like.

And I'm stumblin' backwards to the brush, shootin' at

the ground, just tryin' to scare him off.

It's like, the way he's actin' though,

I'm not even sure he hears it.

Honestly, the one thing that kept me from shootin' him was

all the times I remember Dad tellin' me never to shoot

one of them unless I absolutely had to.

And I guess in that moment,

I just didn't feel like it was that time yet.

And Dad said I did good.

Said I exercised real good trigger discipline.

He never asked me what I was really thinkin' about

when it was goin' on.

Which was?

How gross the rabbit was gonna taste.

Is that weird that I was thinkin' that?

You'd be surprised what you think about

when someone's tryin' to kill ya.

You wanna know how it ended?

You're both still here.

That's true.

Can I help you?

You Dozer's girl?

You mean like he owns me, no.

I mean like is he here?

I haven't seen him.

We got into a fight last week over that Jesus kick he's on.

It seems like he cares more about that book than me.

So what is it that you're doin' here?

I brought dinner.

Looks like you're not the only one who wants to have

a talk with him.

That's right, Simon has somethin'

that belongs to us.

So if he shows up here, you make sure you contact the bar

on the corner of Fifth Street, because his sins

can easily become yours.

You have a good evening, little filly.

I wanna go with you.

No, you got your job and your family.

And you heard Ringo.

These sins are mine, let's keep 'em that way.

You're safer here with me gone.

For how long?

I don't know.

Look, Jackie, you're the only good thing that's ever

happened to me, and I cannot let them hurt you.

I want you to have this.

I don't want your dirty money.

This spot up here,

about like seven generations back,

my grandparents, all of 'em,

it's where we spread their ashes.

Oh wow.

You know that guy?

No, why's he standin' in the truck?

I don't know, let's check it out.

Man.

Never seen coyotes run by here before.

It's 'cause they're not coyotes.

Drug smugglers?

I don't know, they're lookin' for somethin' or somebody.

Let me see those.

It's a girl.

I'll have a look.

Outside that bush over there.

What'll they do if they find her?

Depends on why they're lookin' for her.

Well, we should help her.

Kid, those guys that came after you at the store,

those were just thugs.

This is a whole different breed.

Just cover me with the rifle.

Jake, Jake!

That kid.

Oh, kid, go left.

Now get her out of there, get her out of there.

Let's go.

Oh, come on, come on, come on.

You don't like somebody comin' after you, do ya.

Fire it up!

Go find him.

Looks like you got one.

Yeah, not exactly.

They may be followin' us, so we gotta get everybody

out of here, come on.

Get in the shop.

Jake, call this in.

You need to come in here too, sir.

Stay here.

What do they want with you?

So they come after me.

That's a nice story,

but why didn't you go to the police?

They are police.

And they want you?

Si.

Wait a minute.

What are you thinkin'?

I'm thinkin' this ain't my fight.

Nah, I can't let ya do that.

You have no say.

Dad!

This is my call.

Don't be a coward.

I ain't no coward!

I'm keepin' you alive.

Senor?

I'm sorry to come to your land and bother you,

but the woman you have inside,

she crossed your border illegally.

I need her back.

Her father is a political dissident.

They're gonna kill her.

Just be quiet.

Give her to us, and you and your family and your ranch

will be in peace.

You have my word.

He will kill all of us, all of us.

I'm gonna go talk to him.

Don't be foolish.

Is it foolish if God's on my side?

Senor, I need an answer.

Oh Lord, be with me.

Senor?

What can I do to resolve this?

Catalina, I need you to come with me right now.

No, senor.

Senor, this isn't your fight.

Catalina.

Senor, senor!

Sheriff.

Yeah, JM.

What are they gonna do with her?

She's wantin' to claim asylum, and what she said is true,

she'll get it.

Takes time though, you know that.

Can I talk to her?

Tell me about your father.

What do you want to know?

Is he a good father?

Can he help ya?

No.

He is broken.

I'm gonna help with anything you need.

For real?

Let's go.

Jake, come here.

Come here, son.

Son, you did good today,

and I'm proud of you.

Thanks, Dad.

Go feed our cows.

Go feed 'em.

Sorry.

I am too.

Faith in God means trusting in Him

to take care of you, of us.

I know that.

Not with your soul you don't.

I'm not gonna lie to you and tell you that I'm gonna

wait forever, but I will be here when you figure out

what real faith is.

Dad said to give you some extra.

Just put it towards Catalina's attorneys.

Simon, how's the shoulder?

It's healed up nicely.

Good, we appreciate what you've done.

If you ever come back this way again,

you got a place to stay.

You got family now, son.

That means a lot, thank you.

Sure you gotta go?

I do.

Ya'll take care of yourselves.

God bless you.

You know, when the Lord takes us on a journey,

we might not always understand His plan or know His path.

It's not always easy, but I just keep the faith.

I am a Son of Thunder, and this is my story.
