Not until he found me in a world full of misfits.

following Jesus became a liability fast.

So I left and set out to right the one wrong I could.

Little did I know this journey would change my life forever.

that Jesus did, but I am willing to take his lead.

Me and Dad were runnin' fences.

This is back when we were patrollin' at night.

We come across this ridge,

and spot a campfire in the valley below.

It's just three men, cookin' a rabbit,

with the fur on, guts in.

If I was in that kinda hurry, I'd a just eaten it raw.

We got close enough to them that we could smell burnt hair

before we made ourselves known.

It gets a little fuzzy after that,

but the next thing I remember,

one of 'em's on top of my dad.

One of 'em ran off, and

the third one's comin' at me,

swingin' a machete.

Just total loco like.

And I'm stumblin' backwards to the brush, shootin' at

the ground, just tryin' to scare him off.

It's like, the way he's actin' though,

I'm not even sure he hears it.

Honestly, the one thing that kept me from shootin' him was

all the times I remember Dad tellin' me never to shoot

one of them unless I absolutely had to.

And I guess in that moment,

I just didn't feel like it was that time yet.

And Dad said I did good.

Said I exercised real good trigger discipline.

He never asked me what I was really thinkin' about

when it was goin' on.

How gross the rabbit was gonna taste.

Is that weird that I was thinkin' that?

when someone's tryin' to kill ya.
