on in our schools right now.

concerns in particular?

- Well, we have concerns
about the gender identity.

there's men and
women, that's it.

they're downplaying what it is,

It's sexual activity

that our children
need to be reading.

that there are four
other Republicans

walking around right now
that are not endorsed,

and they're actually
backed by Democrats.

So just something
to be aware of.

The last time we ran, it was

the majority on our board,
which is frightening.

school board members

who are going to be
fiscally responsible,

and that doesn't
mean just low taxes.

It means being smart in what
we are choosing to invest in.

There are five of us.

For the first time ever, there
are five endorsed Democrats

running for school board

in the Elizabethtown
School District.

We just need your help to get
us across that finish line.

All right, I think it's working.

Today happens to be the
anniversary of my first loss

for school board.

I ran back in 2019.

I have had to endure
some personal attacks

over the past four years.

There's been attempts
to harm my reputation

as an educator at my
place of employment.

In addition, this
year has brought me

some personal challenges.

I lost my brother very suddenly

to a drug overdose
at the end of March.

I've never dealt with
that type of grief before,

so having to go through that

while trying to give
my all to this cause

that's so important to me
has been very difficult.

Oh gosh, I got a
message from my sister

which will make me cry.

Thanks, Kel. (laughs)

I miss you guys.

Oh my gosh, I got
through without crying.

Thanks a lot, Kel. (laughs)

policy change in Hempfield

that would have the
district remove, what,

like hundreds of books.

You know a little
bit more about...

- So, yeah. The wording is,

I think the intent is to remove

any sexually explicit material.

But the wording they're
using is any sexual content

which can be interpreted as...

I mean, hand-holding.

So yeah, it could
lead to the removal

of lots of books in the library,

lots of books from
the curriculum.

I have to be careful, because
that's my place of employment.

- [Liz] Of course.

- [Alisha] School
board update for us?

- School board update.

So we still have the two
pro-public education slates.

On our Democratic side, it
is "Support Etown Schools,"

and then the "Elizabethtown
Republicans for Education,"

and then hopefully the
goal is on May 16th,

we can eliminate all of
the extremist candidates.

Nothing is like that.

Like, Democrats and Republicans

in a conservative town like this

being so supportive of
one another is crazy,

but so inspiring.

I don't know what's going
to happen in May but-

- I think that really
speaks to the level of crazy

that we are up against.

- Yeah.
- So.

- We have explicit,
sexually explicit

and vulgar books in our library.

- Oh, really?
- And they're in the middle

and the high school,
so, that's definitely

something to be concerned about.

- I heard that a year or two ago

they found a book or something

that nobody even thought
to check, and then-

- Those are something that
the current school board

and the Democrats that
are running against me

think is A-OK.

We would like to get in
there and change that

and make those books not
available for children,

and that's not book banning.

You know, you could
still go to the library.

You could still go to Amazon,

if you're interested
in that sort of thing.

- [Resident] The
library has everything.

- Exactly, so, we just don't
think that the school itself

should be offering that.
- Yeah, it makes sense.

to address that.

So how does he do this?

The devil's going to work
towards his goal through lies.

We're fools to think
we can fill our minds

with the world's
movies, shows, games,

social media, pictures,
even news, the me culture,

and not think this is
rewiring our brains.

So, like, what is
that leading to?

Like, why is the gender
dysphoria happening right now?

Like, there's a lot of evidence

that this is a social contagion.

And there's a good study
that's out just now,

that they're trying to bury,

that's saying this is
a social contagion.

So, what do I have to do?

What do I have to fill my
mind with to retrain that,

to push me towards faith,
to push me towards hope?

To push me away from sin, to

we welcome tonight's
in-person and virtual viewers.

For in-person attendees,

if you wish to address the
board during public comment,

I will now give the meeting back

to our school board
president, Mr. Terry Seiders,

and our school district
acting-superintendent,

Dr. Karen Nell.

- Thank you, Troy.

Facilities &
Finance, Mr. Hummer.

- Yeah, we'll start
with a budget update.

We will be voting on the
proposed final budget.

Again, ultimately, it's
still a 3% tax increase,

so, I won't go into a
ton of detail on that

unless there's any
further questions

on what was in the board log.

- Just kind of some
things to note,

since we are talking
about a 3% tax raise.

- [Mr. Hummer] Sure.

- In the economy that we're in,

wouldn't it make sense for
us to think about our elderly

and people who are on
a very tight budget,

to look at decreasing the
amount of tax we're asking for?

Every one of us is
feeling the cost pinch.

I know that our family feels it.

Maybe your families don't.

Maybe you guys are a
little more affluent

and are able to afford
this a little bit more,

but that's not the
average person.

I think that's a
disservice to us

and to the people that are here

that are struggling
month to month.

- The larger argument
that you're making

is how public education
is funded in Pennsylvania.

Unfortunately, two
thirds of the burden

comes to local
taxpayers, for Etown.

All we do is try to
look for a balance

between what taxpayers can
afford, what students need,

and providing a first-class
public education system.

That's our responsibility,
is finding that balance.

I appreciate your opinion on it.

I think there's more to
the story with it though.

- Thank you. Policy

We find ourselves in the
spotlight with Policy 109.

We tried to take into account

all the feedback we that we had
received from the community,

and I would say,
from both sides.

- My first question.

The only thing about the opt-out
that has me worrisome is,

and I'll direct it to myself.

If my son wants to
walk into the library

and pick up a book off the shelf

that I don't want him
to read, he can do that.

If there's an opt-in policy,

he can't do that because
that book would be,

excuse the expression,
under lock and key.

I'm not looking to
build a cigar room,

you know, a humidor, as it were,

but what I'm saying is-

- Mr. Emery, I just
want you to be aware

that any kid at any
point could touch

or look at a book
on the shelves,

regardless of what
the rating system is,

so, I just want to be
clear on that part.

- That's my concern.

- Yeah, I hear that.

I just want to make sure
that even if we do an opt-in,

I can't prevent a student

from taking a book off the
shelf and looking at it.

- Okay.
- Mm-hmm.

- [Mr. Martin] I think
that's all we have

for the Policy
Committee, Mr. Seiders.

- I'm glad you didn't
have seven of them.

At this time, we'll go into
the public comment section.

You have five minutes

- Good evening, school board.

To be it a Etown school
board is very exciting.

But I believe there
is a smugness that
comes from this board

because we have a
business plan that means

for infinitum we're
going to raise taxes 3%

every year because we have to,

and I believe that's
offensive to taxpayers.

And the reason it's offensive

is because you come
up with a plan,

and then we have
to bear the burden.

And there is no talk about
how we can tighten our belts.

I call that bureaucratic
entitlement.

It comes across like we're
entitled, we're going to get it,

and you're going to
have to live with it.

I believe that
there are solutions

where we could
come up with years

where we could maybe
come out to Etown Square

and have a party and say
we had a 0% tax increase.

Wouldn't that be great?

(group applauds)

- [Mr. Seiders] Amy Karr?

- In my time participating
in these meetings,

I have noticed that there is

a particular group
of individuals

who choose to weaponize
almost anything that is said.

We sit here and hear
comment after comment

about the dangers of books
and accuse the district

of distributing explicit
content to minors,

in an attempt to demonize
teachers in the district.

It has been shown that
providing public comments

can even threaten
our personal safety.

I have parents and
citizens approach me often

and say "I wish I had the
courage to stand up there

and give public
comments like you do.

But I'm just not sure about it."

And I get it, but I've
decided that if our teachers

can handle the difficult
job of teaching our children

and being attacked
on top of that,

the least I can do
is stand up here

and let them know
they're supported.

- I want to bring
forth my family.

This is a picture
of my grandmother

and her great grandfather
that fought in the Civil War.

When he was 21, he
took a shot in the leg,

and he walked with a cane
the rest of his life.

Now, we have conflict
each and every day.

We have to respect both sides,

but I've been seeing
a lot of Christians

being disrespected
on their beliefs

or bloodshed in the
last couple months,

only because they
were Christians.

It's not across the world.
It's not our missionaries.

It's here at home
that we're being

killed because of our views.

(people chattering and laughing)

- (laughs) Oh my gosh.

(car whooshing)

- Good morning. Is there
anything I can do to help?

- If you would like, yes.

- I would like.

- You could, underneath,
get some plates.

- I grew up thinking
God didn't want me.

- Mm.
- Mm.

- Right?

And then, you know,

long story short, I
ended up abandoned

at, like, 13 years old.

And, I was a rotten kid, right?

And so, my mom kicked
me out of the house,

and a lot of bad
stuff happened to me.

You know, I got into
drugs and gangs.

And, you know, I was living
on the street, you know?

Got frostbite.

It's Maine. It's cold, you know?

- Mm-hmm.

- But I was 19 years old,

and I was with my
second girlfriend,

and she was pregnant
with my third child.

I already had two by
the time I was 17,

and been working
since 15, you know?

But I got led to God
again and I found him

in a real way this time.

And so, okay, I went
through about a year of

"Okay, you're real.

You love me. You're
out for my good.

But what the hell
was all that mess?"

Right?

And it just didn't make
sense to me, you know?

And in that moment,
I was 38 years old,

and in that moment, like,

everything in the past just
kind of flooded through my head,

and I got this tap
on the shoulder,

and the Holy Spirit said,

"Are you still wondering
why I allowed you

to go through what
you went through?

I'm going to use it. And
you're going to reach them."

He's definitely real.

And He's definitely sovereign.

And He's definitely worthy
of praise, you know?

Okay, guys, so, just a
recap of the last session.

So, the last session,

this is kind of
like a military set,

with a biblical undertone to it.

And last session, we
talked about platoons,

which would
represent the church.

And we talked about squadrons,

which would represent
10, 12, 15 guys together.

Then we talked about fire teams.

In this session here,
we're talking about

what they're referring
as back-to-back.

You know, we're in the
midst of a battle here,

and it's a spiritual one.

It's one that if you don't
know about it, you can't see.

And it's against an
enemy you can't see.

Having said that,
you're going to need

to gel together with other
guys because life happens,

life sucks, get a
helmet kind of thing,

and you're going to need guys

that are there for you when
the enemy is attacking you.

Because we be watching
out for one another,

like brothers and stuff.

Do you know that
there's only one way

that two guys can cover
a 360-degree perimeter?

It's back-to-back.

You know, have
you read the story

of Job in the Old Testament?

I mean, this guy,
if you remember Job,

Job had everything.

He was one of the most
righteous men in town.

He had more money
than everybody else,

and at one point,
he loses everything.

The Bible says in Job 2,

when three guys found out

what their best friend
was going through,

they traveled a very long
distance to get to him.

And by long distance, this is
thousands of years ago, man.

This is dirt, sandals, camels.

The Bible also
says when they saw

their friend off
in the distance,

they tore their robes and
threw dust on their head.

We don't do that anymore, but
that was a sign of empathy.

What about you, right now?

What are you in the
middle of right now

where you're trying
to do it alone?

Get with a guy right
now and tell him

that battle that you're in.

I promise you, it
could save your life.

So again, this series

is to promote battle buddies.

We're going to need that,

because whether you
want to be or not,

we're all enlisted.

We've got to be strong
as a church, you know?

We're really good
at being involved

in our community
here at LifeGate,

but that comes with a cost.

And we've got to
be a strong squad

to resist everything
that's going to come,

because it's just the beginning.

So last week we decided
to talk a little bit

about gun violence in the U.S.,

and especially as it
relates to schools,

and I remember I kind of
polled you all to see, like,

who was a supporter of
the Second Amendment.

And I was kind of
surprised that most of you

said you were kind of okay
with guns being available

in the U.S.A.

But, well, look at the words
of the Second Amendment.

It says: "a well-regulated
militia," comma,

"being necessary to the
security of a free state,

the right of the people
to keep and bear arms

shall not be infringed."

Do you truly fear
coming to school

that one day there will
be a shooting here?

I'm seeing heads going all
different directions here.

Yeah, let's go around.

- I don't think I'm afraid.

I don't think about it all the
time, but if I'm, you know,

here, at a movie
theater, at school,

at a restaurant, almost
any time I think, like,

if something happens,
like, where's the exit?

What's the fastest
way to get out?

- And that's an awful thing

that we should have
to worry about,

that we just normalize
school violence.

I mean, I feel bad
for your generation.

You're growing up in this.

It's been with you almost
from the beginning.

But how do we get around this?

Because it's not going away,

either in the school
or our society.

I've even seen people within
the last several years, like,

talking about the potential of,

"Well, there are these crazy
people in my community,

and they're against us.

They're traitors."

And, you know, you start
talking about there

potentially being
another civil war

with the availability of guns.

What's the way
forward with this?

I mean, what do we do?

- I think in the short
term, you have to,

like cops at schools, that
kind of thing, to protect them.

As horrible as it sounds, like,

schools are kind of the
place that it happens now.

Like, there's-
- Why do you think that is?

- I have no idea why that is,

but it's sort of
become the thing.

Like people, I mean, they do
mass shootings at schools.

- [Mr. Safford] It's
not at McDonald's.

It's at schools, right?
- Yeah.

Well, I know at least
a large percentage

of school shootings
are done by students

that are actually
attending that school,

and I think that's part of
the reason why the school

is the main place
where they're targeted.

- Yeah.

you don't know who I am.

I'm going to be your
facilitator, instructor,

safety person tonight.

This is my part-time hobby job.

I also do armed
security undercover.

I work full-time at
Etown School District

in Safety and Security to
help to keep our kiddos safe,

and our staff.

A Girl and a Gun, a little
background on A Girl and a Gun.

It's a national organization
that started in Texas

with one female
firearms instructor

that wanted to bring women
to the range to learn.

Now, the organization
is 7,100 members strong.

So, if you guys want to start?

I've been coming for a
probably a couple years now,

I guess it was.

This was my first
gun that I ever got.

So, I was very uncomfortable,

very scared of it, actually.

And coming to this group

where I can conceal carry yet,

but hopefully that's
my next step, and so.

- And it's a journey.

We, as a group, as
Freedom Readers,

we have poked the
bear with this.

You know, we are just
constantly doing this.

- Well, that's what got
me involved in the group.

When I heard that
Danielle Lindemuth

had raised complaints
about her daughter

having to read "To
Kill a Mockingbird"-

- [Librarian] That
was, excuse me,

that was the person
who was running

for school board?
- Yes.

Who is now on the board.
- And who is currently

on school board.
- Okay.

- Yeah, she posts

her whole list.
- With her husband.

- A whole list.
- With her husband.

- Yes.

- I went to my first school
board meeting in years

because at the
end of 10th grade,

my family moved from
Elizabethtown to
Birmingham, Alabama.

- Wow.
- And it was

when Birmingham was
known as Bombingham.

- Yeah.
- And I-

- What year again was this?
- So, that was 1964.

- Wow.
- And I said

that reading that
book prepared me

for the racial injustices
that I would witness firsthand

to which I had, like,
no prior knowledge.

And I've had this fear,

I guess would be the
best word to put to it,

that Danielle

and her other compatriots
on the school board

are going to say

that the district is teaching
critical race theory,

and of course, they don't know
what critical race theory is,

and I feel like we
should be prepared.

- I think about part of
the mission statement

of the Elizabethtown
Area School District,

which is to make
students that can thrive

in a global world.

But if you don't give
them the tools to do that,

if they don't know anything
beyond the farm behind them

or the house next door to
them, how do they thrive?

They don't know the differences.

And when you think about that,

and you contrast it
to how that patriotism

is being twisted-
- Right. Right.

- By this Christian
nationalism movement,

it is stunning to consider.
- Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

- It really is.

- I can't believe we
have to do this again.

- Right, right.

- Exactly.

- And it's worse
than it was before.

- It's significantly worse.
- It really is.

And the scary thing is
that they could win.

There was a post on
your social media

about school libraries
covered in caution tape.

When you opened it up,

it gave you a link to
sexual content in books.

The idea of the library,

the school library
needing caution tape

is just ridiculous,

and it puts teachers
and librarians

in a really precarious position,

because now people are thinking

there really are dangerous
things in the library.

- Can you say that
none of those books

are in any school
library in the 98th?

- Yes.
- Okay.

Can you say that across
the state of Pennsylvania?

- No.
- Okay.

Those books do indeed, do indeed

show up in school libraries

across the state
of Pennsylvania.

I don't think it's
fear-mongering.

I think it's speaking the truth,

and I think parents
should be concerned

with their children being
exposed to an agenda.

And the agenda, yes, the agenda,

so, the agenda is in writing

and quoted by three
organizations:

the IPPF, the International
Planned Parenthood Federation,

the World Health
Organization, and the UN.

They believe that sex education

should start at the age of five.

They have a Child's Declaration
of Sexual Independence.

- I disagree with a lot
of what you just said.

- I know you do.
- I don't want to take

these people's time.
- I know-

- But I'm-
- But we do this,

see how we do this cordially?
- Did you see? Yes.

- And I was actually

nodding my head.

I totally agree that parents
should be able to ask.

I just know that libraries

are safe havens for children.

I've literally seen
students go there

to be safe, to be secure,

to read all kinds
of different things.

There are so many
more beautiful texts.

Our congregation
attempts to practice

peace, service and
openness to all,

and we are very, very happy
to be hosting this event today

with special guest
Reverend Jennifer Butler.

and thank you to you all

for being here to talk about
this pressing moral issue.

Christian nationalism is
ethno-cultural as an ideology.

It uses the symbols
of faith to justify

the acquisition of power,

political power
and social control.

It perpetuates the lie
called replacement theory,

the belief that a
cabal of elite Jews

seeks to overthrow
the government

and is mobilizing Black and
Brown people to replace whites.

In America,
Christian nationalism

is a white supremacist ideology.

And we saw it at its most
virulent on January 6th,

when Trump and other
elected officials

used Christian nationalism
as one of the ways

to stoke an insurrection and
subvert the will of voters.

So, overall, about a
third of the population

is captivated by these ideas.

And among those
who strongly agree

with Christian nationalism,

40% agreed with the statement

that "true American patriots
may have to resort to violence

in order to save our country."

I've said that
Christian nationalism

is like a virus
lurking in our system.

Their goal is to make the
United States a theocracy

by taking over the seven
spheres of influence

called the Seven Mountains,
which are education,

religion, family, business-

- No it's not.
- Government and military,

arts and entertainment
and media.

My happy picture is that 2024,

we choose a democracy

and we're able to start slowly
rebuilding and reforming.

If 2024 does not go well,

it will be a long in coming
before we can reverse it.

Not only for the United States,
but for the entire globe.

(leaves rustling)

- At this time, we'll go into

of clear the air a little bit.

I'm not a Facebook person,

about my brother,
myself and our church,

to encourage people

that we still have
constitutional rights.

We all have different opinions,

but this school board has
become a little contentious.

I don't have any interest
in trying to control Etown.

I'm a citizen. There's a
lot of citizens out there.

Our elections will take
care of people's opinion.

But I'm disappointed that
people have to be so nasty,

give out
misinformation, be rude.

I don't do that. Our
church doesn't do that.

There's 20 to 25 other churches

who believe conservative
values that LifeGate believes.

And just as a school board,
I want you to be aware

of the fact that many
citizens out there

are not writing
derogatory things

about people who disagree
with their points of view.

and books have made
me a better person.

name a few, you know,

I was grown up and raised
in a household where,

you know, like, feminism
wasn't a word that we used.

I didn't really ever
think about it that much

until I went to college.

Didn't understand
why it was important,

but I read "A Handmaid's
Tale," and then I understood.

I could see the world
could go this way.

I have to respectfully
disagree with Mr. Lamb

about some of the messages that
have come through in sermons

that are publicly
available from his church.

I hope that hearts and minds

can be changed within
that congregation,

but just please know
that it does not speak

for all the congregations

or all the people of
faith in this community.

Because with an opt-in you
have to lock away books.

but it just makes more
sense to go with an opt-out

where perhaps a child
who briefly is in the IMC

somehow grabs a book
off a shelf, somehow
finds some passage

that their parents might
find objectionable.

You have to weigh that
versus locking away

big chunks of the
books in the library,

because they may fall
somewhere in the spectrum

of there's some part of it

that some parent might
have a concern to.

And quite frankly, I just think,

in a way, it's un-American
to be locking books away

and having an opt-in like that.

How would that opt-out
process be changed?

Would parents be able
to exempt their child,

opt them out of advanced mature?

Would that be possible? Is
that how that would work?

- Parents would
be sent a new form

where they would

have access to mature books,"

or "young adult mature
books", something like that,

but then they could still
access to the other categories.

- So, I would like
to recommend tonight

that we approve Policy 109

and make it policy.

For those of you that
this is your first time,

anybody here that this is
your first time at FreePA,

or at Etown's FreePA?

Capital area.

Fabulous! Welcome.

It's good. It's good.

But just to give you a little
overview of what FreePA is.

The first thing we do
is we provide a forum

to educate fellow citizens

regarding our
Constitution and history.

We believe that
if you don't know

what your founding
documents are,

if you don't know
what your rights are,

you don't know what's
being taken away from you.

So, it's so important for
us to know what's going on.

The second thing we do is we
organize physical meetings

for like-minded
patriots to gather,

communicate and strategize.

That's what this is.

It starts here, at
the grassroots level,

and then we work our way up.

And eventually we're going
to work all of the way up,

because that's what we do.

It's not just about
coming to these meetings

and then going home.

We come to the meetings

so that we can then go
out and do something.

(people chattering faintly)

- Now that they've
been defeated, are
they willing to go out

and get involved
for the Democrats?

- [Gerry] And I know we were
talking about this morning.

- Oh, you mean the
moderate Republicans?

- Yes.

I just wish that even one or two

of the moderate Republicans
had gotten through.

- Yes.
- So that they could run

as a coalition
with the Democrats.

I think that the real extreme
views in the community,

they came out for this primary,

because they wanted to win
it hands down, right here.

And I think there's still
a lot of votes out there

in the community for
a general election

that would not like
that kind of extremism.

Because I refuse to believe

that this community is
an extremist community.

- Put it this way: I think the
only way to have a measure,

even a glimmer of hope is

the gloves have come
to come completely off

for the general election.
- Right.

- And I mean, that's
what the union has to do

is buy that board, okay?

And you're going to have
to put it out there,

and you're going to
have to go extreme.

Like, you know, images of
necessarily, like, book burning,

you know, with their names
associated with that.

- Well-
- It's got to go extreme.

- I mean, it's got to do that.
- I tried it.

You've seen what happened.
- Right. Yeah.

I mean, that's the problem is-
- That's the only way

you're gonna be able to do it.
- You get some people

within our union that
have cold feet about that.

- Yeah.
- But we all know,

you don't win being nice.
- The gloves have gotta,

they're going to
have to come off.

- Right.
- And it's difficult

because that's the same
thing, all the way back,

right, in the 1990's,

when everybody had the talk
about going on strike, you know?

And if was the idea
that if you don't,

then do you want
to continue to be

an educator that requires
two jobs to pay your bills?

Because that's what
people were doing

back in the 90's, right?

You know, teach here and then
work at the liquor store-

- Yeah.
- Or Kmart or whatever it is,

just to pay your bills.

(birds chirping)

- When the teachers' union
approaches a new teacher

and says, you know,

"We'd like you to be
a part of the union",

the angle that they bring
is, "We'll protect you.

We'll put an umbrella
over you," you know.

"You want to worry
about parents,

and you want to worry
about other teachers

and administration and
board and all this stuff."

And so, they are
essentially the problem.

- Mm-hmm.

Yeah, when you start
dialing down into it

at the federal level,

they state there that
they want only people

who are queer or of color

to be on school boards.

That doesn't quite
sound inclusive in a
community like ours.

- That sounds racist towards me.

- Yeah.
- Like-

- [Aimee] But you are
of color. You're white.

(group laughs)

- It's so wild that our
minds gear to this now.

I mean, it's like COVID
just changed everything.

You know what I mean?
- Well that's what I told you,

like, when we were at the-
- I wasn't even

engaged in any of
this before that.

It really made me realize

how far away from the
Constitution we've gotten.

- Yeah.
- Like, I mean,

here is a document

that's based on
Judeo-Christian values,

and it's got it all through it,

and we sit here and
say "separation of
church and state,"

but yet, you know,

you've got God that's
driving it all.

- Yep.

Your story and mine
have a similar path

and somewhat parallels.

Yours started when you
began kindergarten;

mine began in 2006, when I was
placed on the school board.

We celebrate and we accept
graduation as an end,

commencement.

This next chapter of your
life, for many of you,

will be the first chance
that you have to meet people

with a different zip code and
different life experiences

than the ones that you've had.

You will have conversations,

challenges that are
markedly different

than the way you were
raised and educated.

So, my wish for you tonight,
as you leave this place

and this community and
step out on your own

for the first time, is that
you keep your mind open,

that you engage in
conversations, and you listen,

you listen with
compassion, with curiosity,

with the intent to connect
instead of to conquer.

Congratulations, Class of 2023.

We had a little incident

at 6 o'clock.

were some complaints

about the books on our shelves.

- Three new board members
came to talk to us about it.

- Three?
- I walked in

and Dave was, like, in a
confrontation with them.

- The fair board.

- You're kidding me.
- No.

So, I said, "Just
take the book down."

- And then the first
thing that happened,

as soon as Kristy said
take the book down,

he said, "Okay, that book
up there, 'Lawn Boy,'

that book is so...

- They were just...

- Basically, trying
to create that.

- They were making the point

of just take all the
books off the shelves.

- So anyway, they
didn't come back, but.

- You know, this is like
tyranny. This is like, you know-

- We brought up the
First Amendment.

- Yeah.
- Yeah.

- And that didn't work,

obviously.
- No, it didn't.

- [Kristy] Well, they said,

"We believe First
Amendment rights."

- Yeah, but-
- "But also,

take your books down."

(sighs) All right.

- I mean, to me,

though it's not, like-
- I don't want to look angry

when people come through.
- Yeah, it's not about, like.

(people chattering)

- The fact is, Trump
won that election.

That's a fact. It's a fact.

You know, we bring up
these kinds of things

in public conversation,

and you get called
conspiracy theorist

and whack job, and
all this stuff.

- The Wednesday
before Christmas,

somebody contacted me and said:

"Hey, President Trump has asked

for people to show up
in D.C. on the 6th,

because that's when the vote
is supposed to be ratified."

Is that the word
I'm looking for?

And so, I was like: "Well,
I have a 12-passenger van.

I can send the 12-passenger van.

I'll get people together."

And within five days,

I had to find the
third and fourth bus,

because that many people
were just crying out.

- I don't regret the opportunity

to go down there and pray
and intercede for that.

I really, really don't.

And, I even brought Cory,

our 15-year-old at the time,

because I wanted him to witness

what democracy and what
freedom looks like.

Once the tear gas started
and the smoke bombs started,

I headed for the bus, because
I had my 15-year-old with me.

You know?

And I'm sitting on the bus
and I'm on my way home,

and the Spirit of God came over
me like a flood, and I wept.

I get emotional even
thinking about it,

but I wept almost
all the way home.

But what God was telling me was,

"I was allowing an opportunity.

I was allowing an
opportunity for my people,

in a setting like that,

where the whole
country is watching"

to get up, to walk to
the front of the line,

to put my back to the doors,

to put my back to the
Capitol Police and say,

"Uh-uh, this isn't happening
like this. Not like this."

And I didn't.

And if I don't hold
that heavy in my heart,

the next time I
have a chance to be

in a martyrdom
situation for God,

I'm going to miss that one, too.

I feel so bad about it.

- So, what's important to you?

- Well, the extremism
frightens me,

to be honest.

the idea of

trans kids being marginalized,

or LGBTQ kids
being marginalized,

or not even having a voice

because the books that
they would relate to

are not in the library.

I'm concerned about

the kids being able
to be authentic

for who they are in the schools.

- Why are we talking about
this? These are children.

I mean, how do
people not understand

how important it is that we
just let people be who they are?

- I don't know. I really don't.

I don't understand it.

- And it sounds trite,
but kids are our future,

and if we just allow them to
teach our kids all this stuff,

imagine the United
States in 20 years.

- [David] Oh, in
less than 20 years.

- Yeah. You know, it's
going to be insane.

- What choice is left?

- Yes.

Yes, I agree.
- Brainwash your children?

- Yes.

- That's not an option.
- And Elizabethtown's

SEL program, aka Marxism, is
very intense, very intense,

so we need to work on that.

We need to get rid of that.

- At the very least.

- Yes.

- They're getting
ready, on Wednesday,

to push in the House
a transgender bill,

so that transgenders
will be able to use

whatever bathroom they want.

They'll be able to be forced
to be at Christian schools,

in Christian daycares,
as employees,

and all we can do is we
can go make a lot of noise.

So, you're going to do the job
that you were elected to do,

or you're going to be gone.

- Yeah, I hear you.

- So, the fight's not over,

and that's why we're partnering
with people like this,

with John Birch.

We think what they're
doing here is fantastic.

They've been doing a
great job for so long.

And, you know, why
wouldn't we partner

with good organizations
like this?

I understand we have a couple

things about Alex Newman,

who will be presenting tonight.

Alex is an international
award-winning journalist,

educator, author and consultant.

He's the author of
"The Deep State" book,

Behind the Scenes,"

and co-author of "Crimes

It's an honor to be here.

It's an honor to able
to speak with you.

So, I've got a lot of stuff

that I want to
share with you here,

but we'll start
with Adolf Hitler.

All right, speaking
of socialists,

Adolf Hitler was the leader of
the National Socialist Party.

They don't teach the
young kids that anymore.

They tell them Hitler
was a right-winger,

kind of like Trump or
Ron DeSantis, right?

But Hitler was the leader of
the National Socialist Party.

He was very much in
favor of socialism,

government-controlled economy,

government-controlled
everything.

So, he was wrong about
essentially everything,

but he was right
about one thing.

And this is a real quote.

This actually came up at
the Nuremberg tribunals.

He said, "He alone who owns
the youth, gains the future."

The strategy was clear.

You've got to divide
children from their parents.

You have to convince
children that the Reich

cares more about them
than their parents,

that they belong to the
whole community, all right?

And this is actually what we
see in our country right now.

Here's Joe Biden.

- [Joe Biden] Look, we always
talk about these children.

They're not someone else's
children. They're our children.

- [Alex] "They're our
children." Yeah, exactly, right?

- Oh!
- Okay.

They are not your
children, right?

But anyway,

this is really serious, guys.

I mean, they are
telling you to your face

that they're not your kids.

They're the
government's kids, okay?

See, now how many parents
do you suppose know

that there's a social change
function of the schools

when they put little
Johnny or little Susie

on the school bus?

My guess is probably
not a lot, right?

They think their kids
are going to learn how

to read, write, maybe do a
little math here and there.

But no, there's a social
change function of schools.

Now, they'll get a
steady diet for 12 years

of "You came from a monkey,
the world is getting hotter

because your mom
drives with an SUV,

and, by the way, there
are infinite genders."

That's what passes
for science today.

So, the world is divided
up into two camps:

those who are with Christ and
those who are against Christ.

And anybody want to argue here

that the public schools
are with Christ?

So we all know that's
ridiculous, right?

We all know that's ridiculous.

So if they're not with
Christ, what are they?

- They're against him.
- They're against him, right?

We're on the verge
of total destruction,

and most of us don't
even realize it.

There should be no excuses.

There should be no child

stuck in a government
brainwash camp.

- Because I want to
make books accessible?

what the First Amendment says?

- Because you want
to deny my freedom.

"Protect parents' freedoms to
monitor what their kids say."

- It does allude to the fact
that I can bring my children up

in the way that I
think they should go.

to live in our community

Democratic Party.

What I have admired and what
I have been most grateful for,

outgoing members of the board,

is that you never,
ever made me feel

like my voice didn't belong.

I don't know if I'll ever
get on this school board,

but I can tell you that you
have set a great example

for what it means to be an
effective school director.

And please know that
you can always come back

to school board meetings
and sit with me,

your former opponent,
but never your enemy.

as a person of faith
in this community.

Too many people,
like I've heard here

at this microphone today
and many other times,

use prayer as a weapon.

They say they're
praying for you,

but what they mean is that
they want you to change,

that you aren't
okay the way you are

and the way that you believe.

It is not an
attitude of humility.

The Bible that I read
in Matthew 6 says,

"Whoever says he is in the light

(Mrs. Ritchie whispering)
and hates his brother

is still in darkness."

And I challenge us as
a community to stop
using words like,

"I'm praying for you"

and "I love you, despite
what you do or who you are"

to represent something that we
want to pass on to our kids,

because they don't
feel your love.

- And so, I guess I would just

ask that we try our best
to not make it personal.

is that they will try
to institute policies

or even sometimes do things
that violate their own policies

And that's something
we can grieve,

and so that might be something
we might have to do a lot of,

if it comes down to it.

- So understanding that
we're not grieving you.

- We're grieving

whatever it is, the policy.
- Mm-hmm.

Yeah, it's hard to predict
exactly what's going to happen.

I'm going to do my
darndest to try to advise,

to try to block,
to try to redirect.

They may or may not
be open to that.

I wanted to thank you for
inviting me into this community.

I have been ministering
for about 27 years,

and my journey actually
began here in Pennsylvania.

So I wanted to open the floor

and just ask what
you're thinking about,

what you're wrestling with,
where the tensions are,

where the joys are,

and you can share as
openly as you'd like.

What have you thought about

as you walked into
this room today?

- My question is, I think
probably everyone in this room

knows at least one person

who has fallen deeply
into the Trump cult.

And I have a family
member who has,

and I say to myself,
"How did such

an intelligent, well-educated,

well-read,
well-traveled feminist

get sucked into this?"

And so, my question is,
is there a Christ-like,

loving language that I can
use to help pull her back out?

Or should I even try?

- I don't want to leave.

I want to stay here. I want
to keep working for change.

I know that you don't
have a crystal ball,

but, like, are we going
to be able to do this?

I think the answer is yes,

but I just need to
hear it from you.

(audience laughs)
- Okay.

- No pressure.
- Yeah, that was an easy one.

(audience laughs)

I can look at a group of
people in this country,

who are people of faith

or a particular
political affiliation

and realize that they are
primarily motivated by fear.

The problem becomes when I
then, in turn, fear them,

because that anger
is really your fear.

The only thing I can
say is this country

has been through
times when the discord

has been horrible, when
the violence has been real,

and anything that we feel
like we're losing right now

was only because someone fought

so we could have
it to begin with.

All we can do is say, "We
are Elizabethtown, too."

There is an Elizabethtown
worth fighting for,

and you know what that can be,

and so, you know if it's
worth staying or not.

- And everyone else can
express some concern

for reconciliation and
actually do something.

Because that letter-

- Welcome, to the members
of the public and district.

to move into public comments,

and please be respectful
of the community members,

and you are addressing
us, as the board,

and primarily myself,
as the president,

so, without further ado,
we have Kristy Moore.

It's troubling that a
majority of the board

is now connected to one church,

a church whose leaders have
expressed anti-LGBTQ sentiments

and pro-Christian
nationalist views,

that the majority
belongs to FreePA,

an anti-government
extremist group.

It's one thing to
campaign on the issues.

It's another to spew
dangerous lies about us,

painting us as sexual predators

in a small,
close-knit community.

I don't think you realize
the harm you've caused

to the five of us who are
now your constituents.

Mr. Emery once referred
to us as demons.

Miss Wilson suggested we
weren't real Etownians.

Recently, Pastor
Lamb referred to us

as a bunch of loudmouths.

Well, this is our Etown, too.

We all live here.
We all belong here.

We're mothers,
fathers, grandparents,
neighbors, friends,

pastors, students,
teachers, retirees.

Etown is for all of us,

and it is my hope that you
will serve with that mindset

and do what's best for our kids.
