but I guess the point is

that a fiery morning sky can mean a storm is on the way.

Before we moved to Spring Hill,

I didn't know that all horses, like all people,

have their own personalities.

They recognize people and remember them.

They're quick to learn things and they love to eat.

I think of a horse as an athlete.

They have strength and speed and endurance.

They know what they like and what they don't like.

Shadrach doesn't like it when I sneeze.

He also doesn't like butterflies, which is sad.

Just the sight of a butterfly can rattle him.

Maybe he thinks a butterfly is a slow-moving bird.

But what really makes him crazy

is the sound of a plastic water bottle crunching.

That noise puts him on high alert.

A horse doesn't just know how you feel.

They feel how you feel.

If you're afraid, then they will be too.

And if you have confidence, so will they.

Because they don't just want food, water, and shelter.

They want companionship.

It's so quiet.

You could hear a pin drop.

The place is so much cleaner.

Definitely not so much stuff lying around.

There's no line for the bathroom.

One less egg to fry.

More like eight fewer eggs.

They can really eat.

I miss them

But hey, they're just down the road,

not hundreds of miles like they were before.

And Anna's here for Shadrach twice a day

and Michael's with her a lot.

And I still drive them to school.

We've turned into grandparent hogs.

Now I'm guessing that one of these properties

was initially on well water.

Well, we've owned our place for 42 years

and we've never used a well.

I'm new to the place.

There's a pump out back by my barn.

Okay, well, there's probably some sort of easement granted.

But look, I pulled this up from the bureau of engineering

and so the Y connection right here,

which is the point of the break,

is right in between two parcels,

number 2237 and number 2247.

Water's coming from their meter on their property.

Well, the break is at the point of the shared pipe.

What that means is the repair work

is a shared responsibility amongst both parties.

This is their responsibility. Anybody can see that.

I'm gonna go cap off this main line

while you all sort this out.

The equipment is gonna have to be brought in for excavation

and that's gonna be some tricky work.

What I would do is to get a survey

to determine your actual property line.

That way you can make a decision.

Of course, you always got the option of eliminating the Y connection

and each paying for excavating for your own hookup,

but that's gonna be far more expensive.

How do they do a land survey?

They start with what's called a plat map.

It gives legal descriptions of all the properties

along with the measurements,

and there are markers. The road, telephone lines,

sometimes even buried markers that are known and set.

So they find those and measures from there.
