Rookie miner Fred Lewis is fighting to
get his mining season back on track.

The goal is to get as much pay dirt
through the plant and pull all that gold

of the ground.

The crew is running pay dirt from the
Liberation Cup with the best gold he's

so far.

It's all coming together, finally.

We've got to keep working hard at this
Liberation Cup and make sure we can find

as much pay as possible.

Fred sunk his last $20 ,000 into the
Elkhorn claim with the hopes of paying

team in gold.

Babe, we have a huge problem. We're
almost broke again.

But more than halfway through the
season, he's banked just 1 .1 ounces of

worth only $2 ,100, and he's rapidly
running up debts.

We need more gold.

We need more money. If we had the money,
we can get more gold.

We have a laundry list of debts to pay
right now. I know, babe. We don't have

enough in the account to cover the
balance due.

Actually, I think the only way we're
going to be able to do this is with an

outside investor.

But we need to sell gold to get an
investor.

Or somebody I know that trusts me.

I've got a buddy, Carl.

If we can give him a good enough deal,

Carl and I, along with Stefan, have been
through probably one of the toughest

times in the military I've been through
was a firefight in Afghanistan lasting

In the 225, Sergeant Stuart McKenzie
feeds the plans.

The amount of problems that we have is
astronomical.

Fred has just talked to an investor,
which at this point in time is in dire

need. We need more money up here, and we
need it quick.

We lost one, two, three, four, five of
these bolts.

The lower screen deck is secured by 16
carriage bolts, held in place by half

-moon washers and knots.

The vibration of the deck has rattled
the bolts loose.

Without them, the ancient wash plant
could stake itself apart.

The vibrations are so violent, it's
loosening itself, and the bolts and the

halfling washers are falling down into
the sluice and going over into our

tailings, so they're lost forever.

I clearly see the problem here, but
what's our fix?

Our fix is to get the correct carriage
bolts, nuts, and washers. You're talking

all of them that are gone?

Yes, every single one of them. These
washers were fabricated by Freddie and

We need to work with them in.

It means more downtime, but that means
we're going to be able to run longer in

the long term.

Ordering all those parts is going to
take two days.

It's getting to a point now where if we
don't run now, there's no chance of this

season being salvaged. This thing is
bouncing rocks all day. We've got to fix

long term. No, I get it, but the plan's
never been 100%. I feel like we should

be running.

I think right now we've got to go for
that long -term fix. Sui, I love your

that we're doing things as solid as we

Basically, we're just trying to keep
this working. We've had some long days.

And the hopper feeder's now jam -packed

The rock is like the support and the
clay binds it.

It's like building materials.

It's kind of a pain in the butt.

You know, Rick's been gone for not even
half a day and we already miss him.

Every hour the plant is down makes it
harder for Carl to hit Rick's 70 -ounce

weekly target.

Do you want to try to get the bucket in
there and I'll be your eyes?

Faced with hours of digging, Carl comes
up with a risky solution.

So we're just going to try to get the
bucket in here. The bucket's bigger, but

we're going to try to move this dirt
around just like that because it's hard

Trommel and the Shaker Deck are still

Mike Trommel is eating through the 18
-acre mega cut, and the Shaker Deck is

running 50 ,000 yards of old -timers
tailings, which have already produced

ounces of gold.

worth over $360 ,000.

We've been finding some very good gold
in the tailings that the old -timers

behind for us, and they're basically
free money in my pocket.

No dozer, no rock truck, just a loader
and an excavator. So it's super steep to

run. And you're curious as to what the
hell is going to come out of it.

This is the cheapest way of gold mining
I have ever seen.

It's just me and Terrence down here
running the whole stuff.

Three weeks into the tailings, the small
operation of just two is down to the

last 12 ,000 yards.

Ruby Mahoney feeds the plants, while
mechanic and rookie operator Taryn

runs the loader.

So you're making quite a burn for
yourself. A really good thing to do is

time you go and jump, When your bucket
is tilted like this, you can put it down

and scrape the firm back. All right. So
that you're killing two jobs at once.

Kevin, we have a major problem here.
It's a six attack.

It's spinning because the groove is

We'll throw a new belt on. We're going

Welder and wash plant specialist Cody
Hunter steps in.

When a belt has been loose and not
gripping, the pulley spins inside the

instead of gripping to the pulley. So
that makes the inside of the pulley

almost. When that happens, it's called a
glazed belt. So you're losing traction

basically. So what is happening when you
lose traction is this shaker.

is not shaking, so it's not separating
all the material the way that it should.

So we're going to change this pulley and
put a new belt on. 10, 15 minutes,

we'll be rolling.

Oh, wait, I might need the big one.

Terrence just brought the new pulley.

So all we got to do now is just slide it
on.

Beautiful.

So we're trying to change this pulley
here.

And the way that these go together is
just a shaft coming out of the motor,

then there's a taper lock that holds
this pulley onto the shaft.

And the taper lock has now come apart in
pieces.

So they're usually quite simple, but the
taper lock has seen better days.

On Tony's data deck, a taper lock
secures the pulley to the shaft.

Kevin has removed the grub screws.

But the taper has cracked and is now
jammed inside the pulley.

It's kind of a shame I was just one
thing after another with this plan.

He's out.

This is what is supposed to be in there.
This is what holds the pulley tight to

the shaft.

So when you go to take this apart, you
use the bolts that are in it to push

lock away from the pulley.

This is what was in that one.

When it broke in half, all the bits and
pieces come out, and we had no threads

for the bolts to push it away.

So it just required some tender love.

Yeah. And now we've got to put it all
back together.

Well, I should look at it. You got it?

Everything's together. About to fire up.

Oh, fire up. I want to have a look at

the numbers here to get you through the

We have about eight to ten weeks left,
depending on the weather. We have lease

costs, fuel costs, and maintenance
costs.

On average, you can run the mine for
about five grand a week.

And I'm confident that if we have that
capital.

We can minus the end of the season, no
problem.

Compared to my other investments,
there's a lot of risk here for it. Yeah,

I'm telling you right now, Carl, it's a
gamble.

But I feel like the biggest investment
you could make is not in the gold that

we're going to get distributed in the
team.

We're going to pull every ounce of pay
dirt out of this claim that we can.

And if the gold's there that it's
supposed to be there, we're going to do

well. But that's the risk of taking gold
mines.

I know that you can solve most any
problem put in front of you. I like the
