When we first lost our father and Mick had to take over

he tried to lay down some strict rules.

I mean really, really strict.

He did not even want me going to a movie with a boy,

had I kissed one of those boys.

Well, at first I did what anybody would do, I rebelled.

And it was terrible.

We fought so much.

Honestly, it felt like it was happening every day.

I was so upset that I spent most of my time in my room crying.

So what happened?

It was funny, it's just the most simple thing,

but your dad and I were arguing again one day

and I looked at him and I could tell that he was really upset.

He was even tearing up a bit and for some reason in that moment

I stopped seeing him as somebody that was trying

to fill my dad's shoes and I started seeing him as someone

that was just as scared and just as nervous

as I was about the future.

Wow.

I mean, I'm not saying that things were perfect

but after that they got better.

A lot better.

Julie, do you think you could start to see your dad

as someone that has his own reasons for reacting

the way he does to things?

I do know that he's always regretted

that he just went off on tour and never finished college.

And do you think maybe he's worried

that you're making the same mistake?
