for some of the younger players
to get on the pitch.

Making the most of his chance
is 17-year-old local lad Phil Foden,

one of Man City's and England's
brightest young stars.

That is an absolutely super goal
from Phil Foden.

England have stretched
into a two-goal lead

inside the first three minutes
of the second half.

What a goal it is as well.

[narrator] Foden recently won
the U-17 World Cup with England

and was named Player of the Tournament.

But the awards didn't stop there.

It gives me great pleasure to announce the
BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year

for 2017 is England and Manchester City's
World Cup winner, Phil Foden.

Foden is a product of Man City's Academy.

An example
of how important homegrown talent can be

to maintaining a top club.

We have a lot of talent in the Academy.

One of our targets,
five or six years ago, is

to try to sign
the best talent of the country.

A type of an environment
which is...

highly challenging
but highly supportive as well, I think.

To create an environment
where the parents drop their players off

on an evening and they feel as though

it's a safe environment
where they can learn,

where they're going to get
an education second-to-none.

Football-wise, and off-pitch as well.

That's really important.

-[Foden] I'm not. It's nothing.

the giant leap to the first team.

But his run with the big boys took
a nasty turn in only his second outing.

and he just cleaned me out.

Strong tackle and then he fell on my ankle
to make things worse.

We have to remove all the blood and
increase the movement a little bit but...

it's an early phase.

Trying to feel comfortable
to reduce the pain and reduce the oedema.

We are looking
for the proper solution for his problem.

[narrator] Foden's is the latest
in a long line of injuries.

Eliaquim Mangala,
Vincent Kompany and John Stones

are also struggling for fitness,

while Benjamin Mendy will spend months
in rehab with a severe knee injury.

[Soriano] I think the case
of Mendy's injury, it was bad luck.

How many injuries of this kind do you
have in the Premier League every year?

It's a bit of bad luck

but you have to accept it.
This is part of the game.

Obviously we were very disappointed
when that happened.

But disappointment can last for 24 hours.
We don't have more time.

Every day I keep taking one more step

and I wait.

-[man] When is he going to start running?
-I mean...

we have to go from the surgeon,
we have to go from the physios.

But there'll be certain criteria
that he'll have to pass

that enables him to start
that loading phase.

When they start running,

there's a lot more load going through
the joints and tissues

and we have to make sure
he's ready for that.

You have a lot of injuries,
a lot of games,

a lot of competitions.

You're not just playing
the Premier League.

You're playing four competitions.

So it's impossible to think
that it's already done.

Even now, in this position
in January, February,

it's impossible to think it's done.
It's a lot of games to play.

[narrator] Every team must deal
with injuries. But for Guardiola,

the biggest worry at the moment
is complacency.

Try to focus on that, guys.

Tomorrow in the game,
don't give away the chances.

You arrive late five, ten minutes.
