Welcome to our Kindergarten book drive.

We're giving away books you no longer read to younger kids.

? My book's Timothy the Trash Truck ?

Well, I feel it. And I can't give a little kid a sticky book.

Since today is all about books,

we're making our own.

Each table will make a book together.

It can be about whatever you want.

Ooh! And soccer-playing scuba divers who swim there.

Um... I'm not ready yet.

Sure, it's your favorite book from when you were little,

We learn them by heart, and then they're ours forever.

Good morning, kinder cuties!

I see the Limes are at their work table.

The Cherries table is all here.

Grapes! Welcome to a new day.

Wow! That's amazing!

Oh, you noticed my brand new whiteboard.

Yeah. Your new whiteboard is great, Ms. Moreno,

but I'm talking about that!

The huuuuge box the whiteboard came in.

Can we make something with that box?

Wonderful idea, Berti, and it fits in perfectly with today's theme.

Reusing things instead of throwing them away.

So we create less garbage. An egg carton can hold paint.

An old sock can become a puppet.

So what can we do with that box?

I know! A house for cats!

Or we flatten it and make a dance floor! Uh-huh!

[gasps] I just had the most meravillosa marvelous idea.

We can make that box into a backdrop.

[Radish] Awesome!

Um... What's a backdrop?

I'm glad you asked.

Ladies and gentlemen, come with me

as we learn about the magical, amazing, backdrop!

- [kids chatter] - [Kenji] What's going on?

? Where do you wanna go? ?

? Who do you wanna be? ?

? We can turn this stage into any place ?

? With a change of scenery ?

? We're in a pirate ship middle of the ocean ?

Well, let me tell you.

A backdrop is a big piece of cloth,

cardboard or wood, with pictures painted on it

That actors stand in front of during a play.

Any questions?

Mm, nope.

? It's called a backdrop ?

? It's how we change the scenery ?

? Backdrop! ?

? From ocean blue to greenery ?

? City street to county fair we can be anywhere ?

? Any place the story needs to go ?

? There's a backdrop ?

- I'm in. - Me too.

[kids chatter excitedly]

Fantastic.

Now we just have to figure out what we want the backdrop to be.

Ooh, a basketball ballet court.

- A forest. - A bird's nest.

- [Jamil] My house. - [Kat] Your house?

- [Tej] The Zoo! - [Radish] Anywhere!

[Kenji] Wow! Cool!

So many marvelous ideas.

But we only have one box.

So we'll have to agree on one idea.

But how will we pick just one?

Good question. How do you all think we should, class?

- [Kat] Hmm? what should we do? - [Tej] Hm... I don't know.

Hey! What if each work table picks their favorite idea,

and the one we all like the most, we paint on the box?

Everyone, please talk with your table mates

and start box-painting brainstorming,

So what would be the most fun place in the world to play in front of?

Oh! A really big city. With buildings that go up to the clouds.

- And lots of theaters! - And cars! Vroom, vroom.

[all] This is the best idea!

Me and my sister love pretending to be queens in a castle.

Great idea. We can paint a castle on the box with a drawbridge.

It'd be cool if a dragon could fly the king and queen around.

Or the queen and her best friend queen.

[all] This is the best idea!

[Jamil] We could put the moon here,

stars and planets here, here and everywhere.

And make a spaceship.

[both] This is the best idea!

What do you think, Tej?

I want to make a land filled with brontosauruses

because they're my favorite dinosaur.

But, Tej, each table has to agree on one idea.

Then I'll be my own table. The Apple table.

[clinking]

Okay, the ding-ding-ding of the triangle

says it's time to share, share, share your table's idea.

- Come to the rugs, everyone. - [Berti] Okay, let's go.

[kids chatter]

Tej, why aren't you at the Cherries table?

I'm with Apple now.

I think we should paint a Brontoverse on the box.

That's a universe with lots of brontosauruses.

How about we paint a city? Tall buildings everywhere!

Hear ye! Hear ye! We think we should paint the box like...

[all] A castle!

The Cherries will take you to outer space.

[clamoring]

Now class, let's be open to new ideas.

Especially if we all have to agree on one of them.

Class, we seem further apart on deciding on one idea than ever.

The backdrop was supposed to be something fun to make together,

but it's just tearing us apart.

Since we can't agree on one thing,

let's tear the box into four pieces.

Yeah. Then we'll all get to paint any place we want.

Uh...

It could fix the problem.

But are you sure that's how you want to fix it?

- [kids yell approval] - [Rose] Let's do it!

We work in a super tall building,

I didn't love the idea of making four different scenes,

but at least now everyone gets to play in front of something they like.

That would make me royally happy.

I thought one big backdrop everyone could play in front of,

was a showstopper idea.

Now there are four different backdrops, and no one seems happy.

Well, sometimes you just have to look at the problem

in a new way to see how to fix it.

Wait a minute. Hey, everyone!

I have a showstopper of an idea!

Ladies and gentlemen,

I mean, gentle teacher.

We kindergarteners have a show for you.

Curtain, please.

? Once upon a time in the Brontoverse there was a little dinosaur ?

? He played with friends, till they all got sleepy ?

? But he wasn't tired and he wanted to play more ?

? He heard about a city that never sleeps ?

? Its streets full of shiny cars ?

? He said, "That's where I wanna be" ?

? And whoosh that's where we are ?

? You went to see a show and you loved it so ?

? I gotta get home it's late ?

? He didn't know the way, but the dancer in the play ?

? Said there's a better view from way up there in outer space ?

? Hey, little dinosaur what are you looking for? ?

? This will help you see real far ?

? He spots this home and he starts to go ?

? But takes a wrong turn at a star ?

Where am I now?

Oh, wow, there's a castle in this play?

? We're queens Abigail and Ellie ?

? Maybe you can tell me, do you know the way home ?

? So now he's home by a volcano ?

? With all his Bronto friends ?

? We hope you have enjoyed our show ?
