Something about freedom and free will.

Are we truly free?

you do.

Have you actually had a free will?

What does it really mean to be free? What does it mean to be able to choose?

Think about everything.

Every life choice you've made.

So I'm nearly following the path that was laid out for us.

Maybe free will is just an illusion.

To truly choose.

Free will isn't an illusion.

And we just stretch it up in varsity jackets and college apps.

We do as we're told.

Get the scores we're told that matters.

It's just a game. Some just play it better.

They say to be authentic, but only in ways that look good on camera.

So what do you exactly mean by that?

I think we fake it until even we start to believe it.

something, the more you're just starting to believe it, and you just start to

become that.

You think you're choosing which cheese to chase, but the maze is already built,

Classically, it's a metaphysical proposition, but determinism has a

philosophical foundation.

The illusion of autonomy is comforting, but functionally irrelevant in a casual

universe. Don't worry. It always comes like that.

And maybe, maybe, to be brave enough to find out

what happens.

What happens when you stop trying to fit in and you start setting yourself.

your choice because you wanted to get here faster?

Or was that just a path that had already been laid out for you?

Think about that.

to control those choices that you have.

Do everything that makes you happy.

How are you feeling with choices you feel like you've made that you think

been 100 % in control of?

I went full force into making every decision that I put my

mind to. I want to do something and I do it. And sometimes I do it

unconsciously. And I think that's the true meaning of free will.

Perfect. I like that. Yeah, right?

Yeah, because you're like not giving too much thought into it. You're just kind

of letting your body go and just letting it experience it and just getting it

done. I like that.

That sounds really good. I love that. Lexi, how do you feel about that?

I think a decision that I made was, you know, choosing my major.

The reason that I ended up here, I was actually going to do computer science.

But when I used my free will, I realized I wanted to take a different path.

That's beautiful.

I love that. You decided, you know what, that's not my path that I thought, and

you were able to change that. And you just switched and changed your mind like

that. I love that. Tony, what were you thinking?

I think the life goes through as it is.

You don't have to have the choice.

You just do.

You just do.

Okay. You just don't think about it. Just whatever happens, happens kind of

thing.

Wonderful. I like that. These answers are really great answers, guys. I feel

like, you know, I said there's no wrong answers, but I feel like these are very

insightful. And you guys are really just giving me great answers.

love your insight. A little more insight from you would be wonderful.

I think I'm understanding where you're coming from with that one. That makes

sense. You make us think a little bit more.

dramatically developing these amazing language

So how do you feel? Do you think that's something that by just hearing others

speak with language like that, you've acquired that knowledge?

You get to choose what you guys want to write. Does it have to be long?

This is the thing. I get that you don't want it to be long, but I feel like I

Okay, this is what we're going to say.

I'm not going to give it an actual length, like, oh, it needs to be three

long. It can be as long as you need it to be to get your point across on how

feel and your thoughts about free will and freedom.

amazing point, but what I'm trying to say is if it's executed properly, then

And, you know, with all those choices, consequences do arise.

And that does happen. So you also have to remember, it is free will, and it is

the freedom of choice, but there's also consequences.

But that's not like it's illusion.

All the free will is just illusion.

It's illusion? Do you think everything is set in stone, and it's kind of like

it's your destiny for things to happen?

See, so I think... Whatever you do, it's just the theory of the... Whatever you

do, eventually, eventually it's just going to go the way it's supposed to be.

The way the universe wants it to be. So you only have so much stay in your free

will and freedom. Because at the end of the day, the universe is always going to

do what it's meant to happen.

Because I just feel like, how could we know that?

You know, like, how do we know whether everything is predetermined and set for

us? Or versus, we have our own free will, right? How do we know? And that's

we're trying to figure out. And that's what we're trying to study.

And it's one of those things, I don't think it's very black and white. It's

either this or that. I think there is a lot of things that are intertwined.

But I definitely had a good, I feel that Tony's...

You know, questioning it and history.

I definitely a hundred percent agree with that. But I do feel like we do have

some sort of choice.

There's a sense of comfort in believing that we have free will, right?

you feel, Kylie? I definitely do agree on that. I think we're meant to be where

Right. Like, you can't name a wrong choice. I think there's so much comfort

that, too.

You just learn everything, even if you don't like it, which everyone always

likes it. Yeah.

It's just like if you don't know what the outcome is, you're still technically

making a choice, but is it a choice that was already predetermined for you? Mm

-hmm. Right? That was already ingrained in, like, your being, too.

So just follow.

These are all, this is what I love about this class. You guys are always

connecting. You're going to find that out, gal.

That they're all very, everyone, they're very interactive.

Interactive. Interactive. You guys are super interactive.

You guys all get along very well. You guys all help each other out. And you

love to take the time to actually discuss things.

And, you know, you guys appreciate and respect each other's opinions.

You don't just.

Like, shoot down, like, what Tony was saying. A lot of people might be like,

no, I don't believe in universe things and stuff like that. I think free will.

But you guys don't shoot his, you know, his beliefs or his ideas down, which is

wonderful. You guys all just work together and have a great time.

And then you're going to find that, Gal, that this team, this group of students

is very interesting.

thing, all these different things, how language, your hearing, the way you're

brought up, it all is intertwined with the freedom of free will.

You know? Or the belief of having it, but like we said, is it really true? Is

really actually happening?

Or is it just supposed to happen versus it

actually being true?

we're going to stick to the whole free will, freedom, destiny, path.

look at different cases.

Correct. You know, is it a nature versus nurture kind of thing?

Was it already in their blood or was it, you know?

What's like a nature versus nurture thing?

Can you explain that?

You know what? It's one of those things that, hey, where you just brought, like,

you're just already coming into the role. It's already in your veins. It's

your blood. This is just who you are and what you're going to be. You're

destined for that.

Or like the nature part.

I think that's the one, right? Or no, nature would be that one. The nurture is

top. Yes. So the nurture one is...

I want to teach you.

And, you know, when you start learning these leads, and that's your choice.

Because you're taking time and you're choosing to learn about these different

things versus what they'd already be instilled in you. Right. So I feel like

that also has a lot to do with freedom of choice and free will.

It's very interesting.

There's a lot of different, like,

ways to portray this.

It's not just like, I gotta say, it's not just very cut and dry.

You know, yeah. I totally feel you.

I just need a little refreshing.

So I just want to make sure you're understanding that whole, you know, the

nature of nursing.

That plays a big role, I think, in people. That's what we want to do.

I always agree with things. Nature is always so beautiful because it helps

When you're nurtured, you learn free will.

Our lives before we ended up here are also different.

That affects the way that we make different decisions.

That's really interesting.

We're all from different places and different backgrounds.
