Philadelphia Police Department.

Two city officials may be caught up in--

- [Reporter] Day 165 in the case of

Marcus Tate vs. the state of Pennsylvania

Marcus Tate, an ex-police detective on the force

for over 17 years is facing 79 counts of conspiracy

and falsifying police reports

In over 60 cases, forcing convictions.

- [Journalist] If convicted, he could face life in prison.

- [Lawyer] The judge has two principal duties today.

One is to ensure the defendant is informed

of the charges against him.

Although most likely--

- [Reporter] A black eye for the police department,

wire taps were released today--

- [Journalist] Hot shot defense attorney David Marshall,

is petitioning the courts to dismiss the tapes,

claiming the tapes could easily be tampered by colleagues

trying to clear their names.

- [Lawyer] And the second is to decide on

whether the accused can be released with bail.

- [Reporter] In spite of all these new revelations,

defense attorney David Marshall still feels confident

that he can get a not guilty verdict.

- [Juror] We the jury in the above-entitled case

find the defendant not guilty of conspiracy

as charged in count one of the indictment.

- [Reporter] Not guilty on all counts of conspiracy

and falsifying police documents,

a joyful Marcus Tate, a stunned courtroom.

Marcus Tate cleared of all charges.

speaks on the verdict.

The head engineer at High Star Productions based out of L.A.

We all remember the River Creek accident

that happened over a year ago,

involving head engineer, Colin Mendez.

It happened on the film set of "Raging Water",

filmed outside of Philadelphia.

The accident injured seven cast members and onlookers.

One of the seven injured was in a coma for the past year

and recently passed away.

But after the death of 12 year old Sarah Bloom,

an onlooker who had been struck by falling debris

and almost drowned,

the case immediately turned into a case of

criminal negligent homicide, along with other charges.

If convicted of all these charges,

Colin Mendez could face 20 years to life in prison.

Many believe it to be a gutsy move

by the undefeated defense attorney,

who has faced tough cases in the past before.

It was the most terrifying moment of my life.

You know, when they rescued her,

they found that she had damage to her head.

One of the pieces from the set hit her.

My daughter was in a coma for over a year before she died.

No amount of money can bring her back.

I believe someone has to be responsible for this.

Someone needs to pay.

I visited him regularly.

So I learned all about Sergeant Colin Mendez' character

He let the man die and cashed in his prized possession.

Would you defend someone like that?
