to the Rainbow Room?

A duster, a spray bottle, a rag to the elevators.

A recycling bag to the mail room

and walkie talkie to your dad in the courtyard.

Whoa. That's a lot to remember, Grandma.

[chuckles] You're right.

Sounds like we need a checklist.

Yeah! A checklist.

We can write down what we need to do

and check, check, check it off when we're done.

But we're gonna organize this checklist

in a new way.

First, you can write down each room

and then list what you need to drop off

beside that room name.

Oh!

Then we can remember where to go.

And what to do when we get there.

[chuckles] My babies.

Okay, let's make this checklist.

One place you need to go is the Rainbow Room.

That looks like the Rainbow Room picture

on the way-finding sign.

And remember what you need to take there.

Three trash bags.

Got it.

Beside the Rainbow Room picture, I'll write a three

and then draw a trash bag.

And put a check box

so we can check it off when we're done.

Done!

Let's do the rest of 'em.

You need to go to the elevators

and drop off a feather duster,

spray bottle... uh-huh...

and a cleaning rag.

Oh!

Draw feathers for the duster.

Bet.

Feathers for the feather duster,

a little spray bottle,

and a rag.

Next, you need to go to the mail room

and drop off a recycling bag.

I'll draw an envelope for the mail room.

And one green bag for the recycling bag.

And the most important thing.

You need to go to the courtyard

and take a walkie talkie to your daddy.

Wait.

A walkie talkie?

Dad can't clean with that.

You're right, but these aren't for cleaning.

Nope, I'm gonna use these to let your daddy know

when it's time to open up the grill

and thank everyone for their hard work.

Is it his special honey barbecue?

Mm-hmm. Yup.

His Yarber family recipe, but it's a surprise.

That means it's a secret.

So, don't you say anything about it.

Jay, I know you can keep a secret.

How about you, Miss Phoebe?

Why are you using a walkie talkie?

Well, if I use a phone, I gotta wait

for someone to answer, and I ain't got time

for all that.

Somebody's playing the organ in the Rainbow Room.

Hi, Jaxxon.

Whatcha doing?

Oh. Hi, Phoebe. Hi, Jay.

I'm just polishing up this organ and beatboxing.

That's when you make musical instrument sounds

with your mouth, like this.

[beatboxing]

[beatboxing]

Phoebe. [laughs]

[in unison] Whoa!

Cleaning and cool music?

I love it!

And wait till you see the surprise.

A surprise?

Tell me everything.

it's nothing.

you gotta wait for something great.

And we have to give you some supplies from Grandma Annie.

They're on our checklist.

Beside the Rainbow Room,

I see a trash bag and the number three.

One, two, and three.

Perfect! Thank you.

Jaxxon has the trash bags,

so we get to check them off the list.

Wanna go to the elevators next?

Now we just need to take the walkie talkie to Dad,

and we're all done.

This is gonna be a great surprise.

We can't give the walkie talkie to Dad

if we don't have it.

And Grandma can't tell him

when to have the barbecue ready.

Oh, no.

We're gonna ruin the surprise.

We can find it.

But how? It's lost.

We don't know where it is.

but we know where we went today.

The checklist has all the places we stopped at

to deliver supplies.

I bet the walkie talkie's in one of these places.

You're right, but we gotta hurry.

Everyone's almost done cleaning, and Dad has to know

when to have the barbecue ready.

Let's go back to the mail room.

Miss Jean, I lost the walkie talkie

Grandma gave to me to give to dad,

and I have to find it.

I'm sure you'll find it, sweetheart.

Now, where did you last see it?

I'm not sure.

But Jay said we could use our checklist to remember

where we've been, in case we've left it there.

Oh, that sounds like a good plan.

Let's all look together.

Hmm. I don't see it.

Well, do you know where else it could be?

First, I'm gonna cross off the mail room picture

so we know we already looked here.

But we went to the elevators too.

I hope it's there.

He's trying to tell you that Grandma wanted us

to give you this walkie, so she could tell you

when to get the barbecue surprise ready.

And I lost the walkie talkie.

But Jay made a checklist so we could remember

where we went so we could find it.

Aww, thanks for bringing the walkie talkie, sweetheart.

I'm proud you two worked together to find it,

and to help with community cleanup day.

I think that deserves a little sneaky peek taste

of my famous honey barbecue.

[chewing]

Mmm!

Dad, you're the sauce boss!

[Grandma Annie on walkie] Pete? Pete!

Yep. Go for Pete.

Go where, boy?

[sighs] Yes, Mama. I'm here.

[Grandma Annie] Get the food ready.

[Grandma Annie] Hey, everybody.

Pete made us his special honey barbecue.

Everyone head to the picnic table.

As I was saying,

I'm proud of you both.

Mm-mmm.

Now, how about you two get your plates

for some more famous honey barbecue sauce.

Yes!

[Grandma Annie] Mmm, mmm, mmm.

[Jay] Mmm!

[Pete laughs]

Hey, Khalen.

It's time to do your chores.

But how come I have to do chores?

'Cause doing chores keeps the house tidy.

Use your chore chart.

Oh, yeah.

See, it says 'to do', and it says 'done'.

On the 'to do' side, you have toys, books and bed.

When you finish one, move the picture over

to the 'done' side.

That way you can keep track of which chores you've done.

First, pick up my toys.

That's right.

Toys go in the toy chest.

Clean up toys.

All done.

Then I need to pick up my books.

Books going on the shelf.

Put away books. All done.

Then I need to make my bed.

You're an expert bed maker.

Make bed.

Done.

Yay, Khalen!

Chores all done.

Now, whenever your room gets a little messy,

whatcha gonna do?

Gotta use my chore chart.

First, pick up my toys.

Toys are going in the toy chest.

Clean up toys.

All done.

Then I need to pick up my books.

You got it.

Books on the shelf.

Put away books.

All done.

Then I need to make my bed.

Super tidy.

Fix bed. Done.

I did it!

Wow!

That's a clean room, Khalen.

Now rock out.

[laughs]

[Phoebe and Jay giggle]

Grandma! Grandma!

I gotta show you the comic book I made.

Well, let's have a look, baby.

The astronaut is nice,

but what if it had a superstar singer?

Hmm, maybe.

Look, Grandma.

[chuckles] Now, this looks like a comic book

you could buy in a store.

Thanks, Grandma.

It's about a hero named Captain Graviton.

He's the best 'cause he never gives up.

All I have to do now is finish the cover page.

A good cover makes you wanna pick up a book

and read what's inside.

What you got so far?

Ta-da!

That's Captain Graviton.

Okay, Jay.

You definitely need to put your name on the cover

so everyone knows who wrote it.

See?

Here's the title of my book.

Wanda and Duck Save the Bank.

And here's the author's name right here.

M. Sinclair.

He's the person who wrote my book.

I didn't just write my comic, though.

I drew the pictures, too.

And that means you're also the illustrator.

That's the person who draws the pictures.

Okay, I'll write my name.

Jay...

Yarber.

Y-A-R-B-E-R.

[Jay] Jay Yarber.

The author and illustrator.

[Phoebe] Looks like your name's

gonna fall off the page.

[groans]

If you look at it from far away,

maybe it's not so bad?

[gasps] Captain Graviton!

[slurping]

They coulda got all wet.

But now everything's in the wrong place.

What happens if the order's mixed up?

The story won't make sense if it's out of order.

There. Fixed it.

But...

what if someone else is reading it

and the pages get mixed up again?

You can use page numbers.

Look.

Page numbers tell us what order

the pages of a book should go in.

Oh, yeah.

I see page numbers on all my comic books.

Almost anything with pages has page numbers.

Even magazines. See?

Page numbers help you read things in the right order.

If you don't have all the pages in the right order,

things don't make sense.

I need page numbers.

Let's see.

One.

Two.

Three.

Four.

Five.

Six.

There.

Now everyone can read the pages in order.

[Jaxxon beatboxing]

Oh! Is that a comic book?

I love comic books.

Who made this?

Hi, Jaxxon. I did.

Let's go to the clubhouse.

Gotta get 'em before they blow away.

We got the pages.

Let's go inside the clubhouse to read 'em.

Do we have all the pages?

I remember Jay counted to six

when he wrote the page numbers.

But we only have one, two, three pages.

Let's use the page numbers to see which ones are missing.

I can do that.

Here's page five,

and page three.

Wait.

That's not the right order.

[Phoebe] It should go page one,

two, then three.

Uh-oh.

There's no page two.

But here's page three.

After three is four.

[groans]

We don't have page four.

But here's page five.

Now they're in the right order.

Okay.

We have pages one, three, and five.

That means pages two, four, and six are missing.

So, we're only missing three pages.

That should be okay.

Hmm. Let's read it and find out.

Okay. Page one.

Jay said the astronaut guy's name is Captain Graviton.

This must be him.

He looks like Jay!

Yeah, and he looks sad, too.

Probably 'cause his ship's broken.

Look at the smoke coming out the back.

I wonder what happens.

Me too, me too!

Next page, please.

What happened?

Where's his ship?

Why is he in the air?

What I wanna know is, whose arms are those?

[laughs] I don't know.

We're missing part of the story.

Let's check the page numbers again.

This page is page one.

And this page is page three.

We don't have page two.

Page two would tell us what happened.

Let's keep reading and see what we can figure out.

Page five.

He's somewhere new and he's smiling at something.

What?

He was just flying through the air.

Are we missing another page?

Let's see.

This is page five.

And the page before is page three.

But it should go three, then four, then five.

We're missing page four.

What's Captain Graviton smiling at?

Is he gonna get home?

I need those other pages.

I hear ya, Pheebz.

There's so much good stuff in this story,

but we don't know what it is

without all the pages.

I think this calls for a page rescue hunt.

Think we can find them before Jay gets back?

Yes, but we gotta hurry.

Let's go!

[paper flutters]

Ha! Got it.

Yes! Found one.

We just found page two and four.

Just need to put them in order with all the other pages.

Page two comes after page one.

And page four comes after page three.

So, now we have page one, two, three, four, and five.

Now we can read this story for real.

Page one.

Captain Graviton is sad because his ship's broken.

What's gonna happen?

Page two.

The alien made a bouncy air bubble

so he didn't crash.

That's why on the next page, page three,

he's bouncing off the air bubble

and the alien is gonna catch him.

Now, that's a nice alien.

And this story is so good.

Let's keep going.

Page four.

Oh!

This mountain looks big.

Where's he going?

This is getting good.

Page five.

He's on top of the mountain and he looks happy.

But what's he smiling at?

He still has to find his spaceship.

How's he supposed to get home?

Let me check the page numbers again.

One, two, three, four, five.

And Jay counted six pages?

That means we still have one last page to find.

[groans]

I promised Jay I'd take really good care

of his comic book.

And I really want to know what happens

to Captain Graviton.

It's really nice how much you care about

fixing Jay's comic book.

That last page has got to be around here somewhere.

Where are you, Captain Graviton?

Jay said you never give up.

And I won't give up either.

Captain Graviton's climbing a mountain.

Hmm.

Maybe I need to climb too.

Let's go!

[Phoebe gasps]

I think I found it! Follow me.

[groans]

It's so high!

I can't reach.

I have an idea.

Climb on my back.

I'm not giving up.

I know we're gonna get that page back.

[twinkling sound]

[Phoebe giggles]

It's page six.

We found it!

Ooh!

I want to make sure we have all the pages,

and it's all in the right order.

Here's page one,

Okay.

Let's see what happens after Captain Graviton

climbs the mountain.

A princess alien is helping Captain Graviton,

and she's singing.

And she kind of looks like me.

This is the best comic book ever!

[Jay panting]
