Thank you very much, Vince. I'm really happy to be here. It's my privilege.

Lou, your wrestling career spans an extraordinary number of years.

When did you begin wrestling professionally?

Yeah, I started wrestling professionally in 1936.

It's incredible.

You look like years ago several years ago. You look like you could walk into the ring right now

You're looking great shape. I still train Vince and I work out constantly and I go to Japan and coach and wrestle in

Mexico and pretty well around the world and I still enjoy what I'm doing also as I know for a fact

One of the most sought-after guest referees also

I enjoy that. Of course, having spent all these years, you know, 50 years as a professional wrestler and the thing,

I should know a couple of things about the rules. As a matter of fact, I even helped write a couple of them, so...

I'm sure you did.

Who do you feel were some of the more formidable opponents that you've had through the years?

Let's begin if we may, back when you first started in professional wrestling.

Well, when I first started, just prior to my getting into the professional ranks,

I worked out with a fantastic wrestler, a man by the name of Ed Stranier Lewis.

And I got a lesson real quick from him, you know, they told me I wouldn't have any problem with him, but they lied to me.

I had more than a problem, you know.

But nevertheless, he ended up as my manager later, my mentor and coach and a fantastic person.

But there are many other great wrestlers down the pike.

We had fellas like Jim Landis and Ray Steele, he helped me quite a lot.

John Pesic and many other really greats and they devoted their entire lives to

wrestling that's all they did and I mean seven days a week and I guess when

you get fairly good or better at a particular sport than most people you

devote most of your time to it it's a labor of love is what it is.

Back with us, the legendary Luthez, and there are a number of awards here with this.

Lou, for instance, the one that's here in front of me, could you tell us a little something about that?

I went to Mexico City about four years ago from a fellow by the name of Canak,

and I want to beat him for the heavyweight championship of Mexico at that time.

We wrestled at the Palacio Disportus, which is a building that they built for the Olympics.

And it was an impressive thing, and I enjoyed it very much.

That was just four years ago?

Yes, sir.

What about some of these other words offered?

There are a number of them there.

What what is which one is this now that one there? I was in in Japan again with a great wrestler by name of Carl

Camera.

Gotch and he and myself were tag team partners, and we won the heavyweight tag team partners

Championship in Japan, and he received one of these and so did I

Carl got sure as tag team partners you and Carl must have been quite a formidable combination. We thought so and I'm sure your opponents thought

So it was a lot of Hungarian German, you know

And we both speak the language a little bit and we and we treat a lot of training together and we enjoyed it

And we had a lot of fun doing it, you know, I'm sure you did Alfred. What is this next award? What is this?

Well, that's a referee award. I was awarded an all-Asian referee emeritus there in

In Japan, they brought me over there each year to referee their tournaments, the all Asian tournaments.

And one year they decided to be very generous and gave me one of these.

Well, there of course is only a sample of some of the extraordinary awards that you have won through the years.

We understand your trophy room is cavernous.

I do have a pretty good trophy, Roman, so we have so much of it, you know, you build up the little things,

it's pretty soon you put them in the basement, you know, you don't have a place to put things.

One thing, Vince, the diversity of Luthers is absolutely amazing.

For example, I know for a fact, he sent a dog that he had trained personally to England,

and it was shown in Wembley at the Crofts Dog Show, which is the premier show of all animals,

and it won a first place.

But that dog there was a constant

Albreed winner and won a lot of best in shows. I

acquired him in 1942 and I showed him for four or five years and did tremendously and

He produced some really refined animals. You were a GI then

I was a pill-rotor, what they called a medic in the army, you know?

Surely, there are more aspects of Luthez.

I know that your career and your interests are so varied.

It's phenomenal.

Well, what I had to do, so far as the dogs are concerned, I got hooked on dogs, Vince,

and I really spent a lot of time and effort at it, and so much that I decided I'd better

go back to work and pay my taxes and everything, and I was spending too much money, time and

effort at it.

I got back to training again, I never did leave wrestling, of course, but I got real

good shape, went back on the road, and everything is beautiful again, you know?

Lou, I'd like to take you right now to some videotape footage and get your comments afterwards.

if we may, to the videotape we just saw

If you would somewhat compare and contrast your particular era of pro-wrestling as compared

to Mr. Wonderful, Paul Orndorf, if indeed you feel he is exemplary in present-day wrestling.

Well undoubtedly he's a fine athlete and his record speaks for himself and he's done very well

and I just think he's a young man that's had too much too soon and

He has kind of a narcissist complex and he's very happy with himself. I'm not sure about the rest of the world

But he's kind of impressed with himself

And, as I said before, he's a fine athlete and we have many fine athletes today.

Some of them are a lot larger than we were and some of the moves that we thought were

very sharp and sophisticated were, are today commonplace, everyone's doing them, you know?

We thought they were really inside things, you know?

Right.

But today, even some of the amateurs are doing these things.

But it's a good spectator thing for people to make themselves attractive as he is, but

I think if he would stick to his athletics, which he's very good at, he's a very fine

wrestler.

He's an ostentatious dresser and he wants to push his weight around and that just isn't

the way to go through your life.

Dick Murdoch, a bombastic wrestler from Texas, he's a little pretentious, but he can back

that up with a lot of skill.

Adrian Adonis we all knew in the beginning was a very fine wrestler, but he's been able to blend his talents successfully

With dick Murdock and nobody expected them to hold that title as long as they have done

But they have been able to achieve that and I think it's going to take a considerable duo to knock them off that perch

No doubt of that you mentioned the Adonis and Murdock both rugged individualist as it were and it seems to me that most

Individuals most fans would feel that

That combination is a rather unusual one

in its concept in the first place.

You would think possibly that they

would come against each other, but they don't.

They seem to be able to blend so well.

Is it that they're putting a lot of hours working out

their moves, getting a successful blend

because that's what a tag team is after all, isn't it?

Luau Bannel, by the way, is currently negotiating

I would suspect that somewhere in the background,

Luau Bano lurking and offering a little advice

to the Tag Team Champions, Adonis and Murdoch.

I would suggest he's hopeful of signing Adonis and Murdoch

to a contract in the upcoming weeks.

What could I say for your forbearance for a little while?

Recently, we went through a trying period here at TNT

when we lost one of the men who was closest

to everything that we have tried and strived for.

We lost infant Vincent J. MacMonsenia,

who had been the promoter of...

the greatest wrestling that we've ever been entitled to witness.

He was also more or less a founder of Madison Square Gardens,

and a tribute was paid, a very high tribute,

when he was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

And here we have a little piece of film

to show you where Vince Jr. went to accept his plaque

on that induction ceremony.

The last wrestling match promoted by Vincent J. McMahon was a 26,000 fan

sell-out. The 21st straight sell-out at Madison Square Garden. Not just the main

arena of course, but including fell forum as well.

Like others installed here today, McMahon's career spans two gardens.

Unlike the others, he is one of three generations of McMahon's whose careers at the garden date from the very first boxing match held at the Old Garden on 8th Avenue, 1925, promoted by a legendary man named Tex Rickard.

McMahon, who developed the unique combination of showmanship and athletic skills, which enchant

the fans today, promoted his first match in 1935 as a New Jersey and became the garden's

matchmaker back in the mid-fifties.

He was a natural, of course, when named as promoter at the opening of this garden back

in 1968.

Few events at the garden or anyplace else in any arena, anyplace, can boast of the amazing

pro-wrestlers today, and even those who aspire to careers in the future, and those among the 26,000 regulars

who packed the garden for wrestling should make this room a special spot to visit someday, to visit Vince McMahon's plaque.

Just to say thank you to him, his plaque will be accepted by his son Vince, the third representative of the three McMahon generations serving Madison Square Garden and us.

Unfortunately, my dad recently, as many of you know, just several weeks ago passed away.

But if ever there was one individual who carried the banner of Madison Square Garden,

no one quite did it like my dad.

have been associated with Madison Square Garden.

He was so proud to be associated, as was his father

before him, and as I am now.

My dad liked to kid around from time to time,

and he was born in Harlem.

He used to tell me that he was the last white baby

to ever be born in Harlem.

And he would say, with his New York accent,

From time to time I would bring up the new arenas were popping up all around the country and that they certainly

Were attractive marketplaces for us in the future and he said yes, he said but remember one thing

I feel, and I express my feelings with people around.

Sometimes I feel like many people.

I'm a man who's well-versed in the world, well-versed with personalities.

I know that by giving a little Mr. Rogers, I can antagonize somebody.

By doing a little Ernest Angel, I can bother somebody.

It's not only a physical sport, but it's a psychological warfare.

If you have a man beat before you go into the ring,

whether it be by his thinking you're overconfident,

or his thinking you irate,

or his thinking you're incompetent,

there's always an edge.

And with my talent, I don't need much of an edge.

But yet you seek it, do you not?

I like to humiliate people. I think there's a lot of people that deserve to be humiliated.

There's a lot of clowns around. There's a lot of people that don't have my talent.

Luthes, I heard out here earlier talking about the wrestlers of all times.

That's like the New York Giants of the 57 playing the Raiders of today.

I'm 1980. I'm 1984. I'm magnificent. I create. I invent.

Blackening the horizon. It's a challenge in my life. It's an excitement to survive.

I enjoy surviving. I enjoy the contest. Not of only man against man. Not only one

man against thousands. Not only one man against nature. That keeps me fresh. That

keeps my head in tight with everything else. That keeps me one step, two steps,

five steps out of every wrestler in professional wrestling today or every

Working out training is a priority priority and one my parties in life because I try to stay in shape

You know, I tip top shape. I'm a professional and I try to conduct myself as a professional

The only way I'm going to win and be a true professional if I stay in the best shape

And I'm in that gym, Vinnie, every day, just pumping that iron, working out, running, boy.

I take care of that body because I love wrestling and I love what I'm doing.

And therefore, the better shape I'm in, the harder I work out, the longer life I'll have in wrestling, in professional wrestling.

Oh, no doubt you have had and continue to have one of the longest careers in professional wrestling.

What we'd like to do is take you back, if we may, into a recent matchup involving Ron Shaw.

Ron Shaw, the opponent who's just about ready to step into the ring now with the Polish power will take a close look of Ivan Putzky.

you know it takes a lot to get me mad you know I'm uh you know Polish people are good-hearted

people we're hard-working people and it you know it takes a lot to get a Polish person mad but boy I tell

you saw when I get mad I don't know what I'm doing in that ring my mind goes

blank and I'm just like a machine inside that ring you know it's I guess you

can say I just go out of control well it seems to me that you're mostly in

control and you spend a great deal of time training and on the mat in the

gym and your training regimen and also your nutritional regimen I'm sure is a

food. You know, I'm very particular in what I eat. You know, if a man's going to work

out, take care of his body, working out isn't everything for him to understand. You got

to put in that fuel. If you have a good car, if you have a car, and if you want it to run

good.

Are you going to use the best oil, the best gas?

You're going to treat it the best way you know how, right?

Without a doubt.

Okay, so with a body, you got to eat the right food, the best food, you know?

And I'll tell you what, I want to show you some.

You talk about the people in the United States talk about the soul food, this food, I'll tell you what.

Oh, I have goals in professional wrestling.

Number one on the list, number one goal to me,

is the man with the blonde hair, the incredible Chump Hogan.

The man has been running for me.

He's been hiding from me for three going on four years now.

Every time it seems that Jesse the body shows up,

the chump Hogan finds his way to the other side of the country.

To Japan, to Europe, he just never wants to be where Jesse the body is.

And why would you suspect that, Mr. Ventura?

Because I think he realizes his championship is in jeopardy.

Because when the chump looks into my eyes, I'll hypnotize him before the match even begins.

And when he does that, he's mine.

Notwithstanding that rather high aspiration,

what are... how would you compare and contrast your skills

with those of the individual whom we had as our guest earlier on,

the Polish power, Ivan Putzki?

Ivan Putzki's a strong man. There's no doubt about that.

I don't know if he thinks he's Lekwilense or what out here,

but he is a powerful man, but Ivan Putzki has one problem.

And I like to refer to Ivan as Ivan the Wart.

He's very ugly, and he's short.

And you know, he can have all the muscles packed into that dynamo package of his, but

there's a thing called leverage.

And when you're six foot five and have muscles, that makes a big difference over being five
