have been invited to this castle

in the Scottish Highlands.

[Contestant] Come on! Get in!

- [Claudia] To play the ultimate game of deception

in the hope of winning up to 120,000 pounds.

[Contestant] Oh my God.

- [Claudia] They'll build up a huge prize pot

by completing epic missions.

[explosion booming] [group yelping]

- [Contestant] My hands are literally shaking.

- [Claudia] But hidden amongst them are the Traitors

who will secretly murder their fellow players.

- [Contestant] I'm one of the Traitors.

- [Claudia] It's up to the faithful

to work out who the Traitors are and banish them

before they become their next victim.

- [Contestant] What the hell is that?

- New year, whole new game. [bell ringing ominously]

This is "The Traitors".

[dramatic orchestral music]

My name is Lisa.

I am 62 years old and I actually think

any self-respecting murder mystery

needs to have a priest in it.

My strategy in the game is to blend in with everyone else.

So I'm not actually going to openly declare

that I am an ordained priest.

Oh.

[Lisa laughing]

- I'm the first person in my family to go to university

and I've always wanted to be

maybe like the first Black Prime Minister.

I'm quite a mummy's boy, so it'll be quite nice

to see how I cope on my own.

been enjoying your journey so far

because things are about to get interesting.

and it's about one person making the sacrifice.

So I did go into I guess mission mode.

I kind of thought to myself, do you know what?

So, I'm gonna remember all your faces now,

'cause it's a big sacrifice I'm prepared to make.

I don't know what came over me

but I done it for the team

and I done it for all the people who know me.

and I was a British diplomat for 10 years.

As a diplomat I worked in Asia, Africa,

and the Middle East doing conflict resolution.

My biggest strength is that I like

decided within the timeframe.

- [Claudia] You have successfully banked 7,000 pounds

And once the Traitors have been picked,

you are officially in the game.

removing them from the game.

In order to survive, you're gonna have to stick together

I'm from London where I am born and bred.

I've been putting on a Welsh accent

because my mum's from Wales.

It's one of the most trustworthy accents,

so in a game where we need people to trust each other,

I need an accent that people can trust.

I've lived in London since post uni.

So all my Welsh friends from school are like,

- I can hear it a little bit, you know?

I am now terrified that she will work this out.

I can probably remember

how to count to five, you know, things like that.

and I was so excited to find out

that Charlotte is actually Welsh.

It brought me a lot of comfort, you know?

So that would be the start of our IVF journey.

So I'd love for us to have a gorgeous honeymoon

and be able to put a deposit down for a home.

so that I can actually spend

and enjoy my time with my daughter.

We found ourselves kind of in a place

where everything has become very tight

very quickly out of nowhere,

to the extent where I'm having to work lots of extra shifts.

My strategy is to make

whatever self-interested move I can

to get me forwards in the game.

My strategy is to take advantage

of how people tend to underestimate me.

My wife's made me spaghetti bolognese

for the past 35 years, she thinks I like it

but I don't.

I don't know whether lying about a pasta sauce

And then I was like, reign it in.

[laughs] I can't believe it.

- As a doctor, my general day-to-day demeanour

tends to be very chilled out and relaxed.

But when Claudia was doing the laps,

it was so nerve-racking.

[Armani breathing heavily]

My heart is pumping insanely!

This is where everything changes.

Now that I know I'm a Traitor,

the game has finally started for real.

When she touched me I thought,

I've now got to keep a straight face.

I mustn't do anything or breathe heavily or do something.

I'm totally gonna have fun!

It's woken me up completely. [laughs]

I have selected my Traitors.

[tense music]

The rest of you will be known as the Faithful.

The course of the game has now been set.

Will you please remove your blindfolds.

You will meet and discover each other's identities tonight.

Your task is simple.

Remain undetected and murder the Faithful.

Faithful, your task is to track down the Traitors

and banish them from the game.

Get it wrong and you could banish an innocent Faithful.

Remember, if there are any Traitors left at the end,

they take all the money.

But winning the money is gonna require

even more smarts than ever this year.

Listen carefully.

Those who make it to the final

will no longer reveal their true identities as they leave.

Instead, you will need to rely solely on your instincts

as to whether any Traitors are left in the game.

I'll let that sink in.
