Well, you have the challenge of your crew, a little bit

hesitant to deal with an 18-year-old man.

And I share somewhat your concerns.

I came here when I was 19.

One of the big problems is just, you know,

motivating my crew.

A lot of them just kind of check in and check out.

Well, that's probably the biggest problem of any job

is to have the crew motivated.

So you've got to establish some confidence on their part

to work with you. -Right.

I'll tell you what it really is, is the crew are attracted

by the incentive of getting paid with gold.

I got some really good advice from my grandpa.

We've been burning the candle at both ends up there

in the Klondike, and it's good to take a step back.

[Greg] I'm at the point now where

it's become a production line job.

Right now, we need to have a little bit of hope.

Armed with grandpa's advice, Parker returns to the mine.

I just want to say that I appreciate you guys stepping up

and you know, it's a pretty unappreciated job,

but that doesn't mean that you guys should just

turn into robots. -That's how it's felt.

I mean that's kind of the motivation that I've been

I wanted them to care about the operation.

a half a day of sluicing because we shut down earlier.

And his wash plant, Monster Red,

is down for repairs.

[Carl] I got way too much work to do.

Nothing's happening any time quick, right?

They could have been up there welding the whole time, right?

While Carl works into the night,

the rest of the crew call it a day.

Desperate to hit his 500 ounce goal,

Rick tries to get Carl back on board.

I've been doing my best to try and make it [bleep] work,

but the only way that I see through it is to finish,

try to learn something, and come back.

Unable to operate heavy equipment

due to his combat injuries,

retired marine Johnny Stanz is in charge of the pumps

that feed Fred's wash plant.

But internal feuds can quickly sink an operation.

In 2024, Kevin Beets is stepping out from his father's

shadow to prove himself as a mine boss.

But this is the first time that it's all my [bleep].

My ground, and at the end of the day, it's going to be

my and Faith's gold.

To hit his ambitious 1,000 ounce goal, he hires master

dirt mover, Brennan Ruault, as his foreman.

[Brennan] It's a struggle to try and reach 1,000 ounce goal

on the first season with a small crew and old equipment.

So I had Matt and Ashley get on.

I worked with them last year up here.

We were mining at another mine site.

Brennan is depending on experienced operators,

Matt Keifer,

and his fiancée, Ashley Phillips,

to bolster a crew of greenhorns.

[Ashley] I have to watch out for the other operators.

The main thing here is not beating the iron up so we can

keep running it. -[excavator roars]

At the end of the 2017 season, it all comes to a head when

Parker buys his own piece of Yukon ground.

with Tony anymore, and, like, on this ground,

we don't have to pay him any royalties.

Parker has been leasing ground from Tony all season.

Now he wants to run his own dirt before winter

shuts him down.

With no time to move a wash plant,

Parker decides to truck his pay dirt

straight through Tony's camp

to his plant on Tony's ground.

[laughs]

[Monica] Do they have to drive so fast?

I'm pretty sure we need to park a rock truck,

like, right in their way.

[Minnie] No, you can't stop them.

As far as in the Yukon, there is no trespassing law.

You have to give people access to their mining grounds,

so you can't really stop them.

[Mitch] You should see the look on these guys' faces.

They don't look too happy.

It's gonna take a lot more than Tony Beets

to stop this crew.

[Parker] Think we got enough of a pile to fire up a wash plant.

After building a stockpile, Parker fires up

and runs his own dirt for the first time ever.

[Mitch] Nice thing about all this pay dirt is, no royalties.

No royalties.

Well, hopefully there's some gold in it.
