I thought I was gone.

This was a stressful day.

Sophi and I

saw one of our closest allies go home.

We just had to vote out Jeremiah.

I mean, we made it through all of this chaos.

And tonight really solidified that bond between Sophi and I.

And we're in it to win it together.

It's us two... somehow.

- Oh, my God, it's crazy. - I know.

Like, literally six days ago,

we were just all six, and now it's just us.

How are we the last two standing?

I know. I know. It doesn't even make sense.

No, and it's horrible. Like,

and we've had to be forced to play this game,

and now we're going into a game where, like,

people haven't backed up each other yet,

- and we've done that. - Yeah.

And we've done it again and again and again.

- We're good, you know. - We're good.

We went from a tribe of six to two.

It's almost incredible

that we're the last two standing.

I can't believe it.

And so far, this experience has been pure torture.

But hopefully,

this is the start to an underdog story,

because there's only a way up from where we are now.

of Survivor 49.

Yeah.

- Quarter of the way done. - Quarter of the way done.

Yeah, numbers. A lot of numbers involved in Survivor.

Number of seasons,

number of people in your alliance,

number of votes you might get at Tribal Council.

But numbers are also very important

when it comes to challenges.

We are now down to a tribe of two.

And as you can see, we have set up

a challenge that is two v. two v. two.

Oh, my God.

But you know where else numbers are really interesting?

- Oh, boy. - Oh, boy.

Is when it comes to a tribe switch.

Mm.

Let me give you a little insight

into the game design of Survivor 49.

A tribe switch is on the board

at 14 players.

We just got here a little earlier

due to Jake's unfortunate evacuation,

but we're at 14 players.

We're switching tribes.

Everybody, drop your Buffs.

- Oh, my God. -Oh, my.

Oh.

- Wish you all the best. - All right, guys.

Buffs down. Hina, we love you.

- All right. Yeah. -Stay strong, y'all.

A big part of the game design of Survivor is uncertainty.

We try to exploit it at every turn

because that's what's interesting.

Who here is willing to admit

the uncertainty is at a ten right now?

- Oh, yeah. - Yeah. That's what we like.

You two did not raise your hands.

- We're used to whatever's coming our way. - Yeah.

-You know? -We welcome

- uncertainty at this point. - I mean, Jeff,

we woke up this morning to waves hitting us, drenching us,

- and our boat flying away. -Oh. My shoes flew. Yeah.

Sophi's shoe was gone.

So if things couldn't get any worse,

My shoes were taken by the ocean today.

I'm wearing somebody's shoes that was voted out, like,

three days ago, and they don't even fit me,

- but I have no other choice. -Hopefully, none of you

end up on Kele beach.

- Yeah. God. -What?

- Geez. -All right.

Everybody's fate is about to be tossed up in the air.

So, a real mixture of tribes both ways.

So looking at the new Hina tribe,

you have four former Uli--

Rizo, Jawan,

Nate and Savannah.

Then we have Matt and Jason from Hina

and Sophi, the only member of Kele.

All right, the new Kele tribe,

led by Alex, who knows the beach

- you're going to well. - I know it well.

I know it all too well.

And then we have,

from the former Hina, four tribe members,

once again from the same tribe--

Steven, Kristina, MC and Sophie.

And then we have Shannon and Sage from Uli.

All right, if you are wearing yellow,

that means you're on Hina,

and you're going to the beach that has everything.

How great is that?

And if you're wearing blue,

it means you're part of the Kele tribe,

and you are going to the beach that has

absolutely nothing.

Just like that, the game has been flipped upside down.

Kele has

no fire, no flint.

I don't think they have a shelter.

But I look around, and I see four Hina,

and that makes me excited.

Having the majority is amazing.

However, everything else

is tragic.

Well, as you just saw, numbers are important in this game.

Survivor is a big game of uncertainty,

and I think if you're too comfortable

in the position that you're in,

that means you need to get uncomfortable.

And what better way to get uncomfortable

than swapping tribes?

-Wow. -So this is the infamous Hina,

I like it.

Obviously, knowing that I don't have a vote

until I have an idol is scary.

However, luckily for me,

to be in the majority of a swap,

it's almost like hitting the jackpot in Vegas.

You don't understand. I'm super excited to be here. Like,

I'm like... Guys, you don't understand.

Oh, we felt so bad for you guys over there.

- Welcome. - I have been in hell for, like...

I'm so happy to meet you guys and be here.

And, like, I'm excited.

Being here at the Hina beach

is such an incredible experience,

but it does remind me of how bad I had it before.

Guys, I haven't seen fire unless it's at Tribal Council.

Aw.

Yeah, I haven't seen fire once.

I feel like I just won the lottery.

This beach is incredible. Like,

there's coconuts, there's a machete,

there's a hammock.

All right, there might be a method

to this that I don't know of yet.

People are offering me, like,

coconut juice without me even having to open it myself.

So,

I feel super excited to be here,

even though I'm the only one from the Kele tribe.

Luckily, there's been beef between Hina and Uli,

and I want to capitalize on that.

You know, I want to be the middleman.

I want these people to think, "Okay, I need her

to work with me to get out that other tribe."

I wonder how the other... others are adjusting.

I'm a little afraid.

The people that came from your tribe

to ours are probably miserable.

Welcome home, everybody.

This is just embarrassing.

The place is a mess. There's flies everywhere.

There's broken goop fruit.

I mean, there's... Underwear's hanging from a tree.

So this is just a disaster. Plus,

there's four people from Hina,

two people from Uli and me from Kele.

And so, there's a numbers game

that I'm gonna need to try and figure out.

You know, so far, I've kind of been

on a Survivor vacation in certain ways.

So now to be here and to be

one of two Ulis out of a tribe of seven,

it's probably as difficult as it could get.

But I'm happy to be here, and I'm happy to make the most

out of the situation that I have ahead of me.

Hi, guys. I'm Shannon.

I run a high-vibe women's community,

- yoga and meditation. - Okay.

And one thing about me,

other than being on a new tribe

where you're not in the majority,

'cause honestly, happy to be here, guys.

My name's Steven with a "V," I'm 35,

and I'm a program manager at a space engineering company.

So, if you need to know every single Excel shortcut...

Um, I'm Sage.

I'm gonna lead with this, because I think it says

a lot about my personality,

but I also don't blame you

if you think I'm a psychopath afterwards.

I like blackheads,

but I like them so much that I put them in a jar,

and I just keep them for a little bit.

-Like from your skin? - Like, your skin?

- Yes. -Oh, okay.

I'm looking at both of those members

from the Uli tribe and thinking,

"Shannon is all smiles, and she seems very peaceful,

"very centered and, like, she has

a good head on her shoulders."

That's someone that I'd like to work with.

In general, those are great qualities to have.

And I see Sage, and she seems like

kind of an odd duck, but I mean that in the nicest way possible,

'cause I'm kind of a weird duck, too.

And I vibe with people like that.

So, I'm Alex, I'm 26, and I've had

a total of one coconut the whole time I've been out here.

- Oh, really, just one the entire time? Whoa. -Yeah.

-How are you alive? -I mean, it really

has just been tough out here.

You guys, like, have fires every night,

and then, do you guys eat?

Like, what... like, what does that look like?

We literally had nothing but coconut.

- You were eating snails? -Ew.

- Escargot. - Oh, my God.

- I would eat that in a heartbeat. -No.

I had two, and I was like, "I can't take anymore."

There's, uh... Jeremiah had a worm farm here

where we were eating worms.

You know, just picking them out of the ground,

just putting 'em in our mouth.

Oh, my God.

The food situation is going to be tough.

We've been eating crab.

We've been eating snails.

We've had some fish.

Those are things civilized people eat.

Alex said they were eating worms.

I don't think I can swallow a worm whole.

Like, these are things people do not eat.

- It feels so good laying in... - I know. Oh, my God.

No, no, no. Not only hammocks, but Hina's hammocks.

I know.

Oh, you're getting some good sparks.

Coming into this new Hina tribe,

I'm just even more ready to play now.

You know, I'm no longer on fire. I can relax a little bit.

I just feel like there's just an abundance of opportunities.

- I'm a one-man girl type of thing right now. - Oh, 100%.

- And, like, you guys are four. - Yeah.

- And I know, like, going into the merge, - Yeah.

you probably want to beat out Hina, right?

Yeah, there definitely feels like

- there's a little bit of a rivalry. - Yeah.

I just happened to land on a new tribe

where there were four Ulis, So I guess

that's the direction I have to take.

I have to align with them.

I'm not the strongest, but, like, I am loyal.

- Like, I am that girl. - Right.

Like, if you want to work with me, you know, I'm your girl.

We should keep talking.

We are entering a new stage of the game

where you need someone who's gonna be loyal.

And so that's what I'm trying to show to these people.

I want the Uli tribe to look at me as a number,

someone that they can take to the long game.

You know, I'm just another number for you guys now.

- You know what I mean? - 100%.

Like, if you guys want to make a move,

- I'll be another vote, another number. - Yeah.

I think people kind of look at me like the lost puppy.

And you don't want

to leave a lost puppy out alone.

You want to adopt the lost puppy.

And that's what I want.

I just want to be adopted by somebody

to love me and care for me in this game

and take me to the end.

Yeah.

I know. Me too.

- I feel like I could tell you. - I know.

Like, I don't know why, I get the vibe

- that I could tell you anything. - I do, too. No. I do, too.

If I were to talk to my friends back home,

I'd say like, "You know, we're both cute, short,

but I'm kind of hairy.

- Yeah. - Yeah.

And also, like, we're the only girls on this tribe,

- so we should stick together. - I know. Absolutely.

- Absolutely. - Um...

I think no matter where you go in life,

you always look for someone who might remind you of home.

And for me,

like, Sophi kind of provides that.

Just by looking like she's one of my friends from back home,

she instantly looks like someone who I can trust.

Do not tell anybody this.

- Alex used an idol last night. - Okay.

And I wanted to kind of tell you to, like, give you my trust.

- Yeah, of course. - He told me not to tell anybody,

- but I'm gonna tell you. - Yeah, I won't say a thing.

Um, I was with Jeremiah, but when I found out he had an idol,

- I had to vote Jeremiah out. - Of course. Of course.

I think Sophi's telling me exactly who she is.

And that might sound kind of crazy,

but, like, I knew within the first couple minutes

of meeting her and hugging her and just looking, like, at her,

I'm like, "I feel like this girl's gonna be my girl."

- I'm so excited. - Yeah, when I saw your yellow,

- I was like, "Let's go." - Yeah. Let's go

- You deserve a break. - Thanks for having me, guys.

- You deserve a break. - Thank you. I appreciate that.

Being the only member

of the new Kele who's from the old Kele,

the numbers are kind of in my favor,

because, hey, if we keep going with this Uli-Hina battle,

I'm kind of out of the fray,

and someone might want to scoop me up

because they can see me as a number.

I just have to

go with the flow, and whoever wants me can have me.

I'm open for business, everybody.

And then to close out this prayer,

this meditation, just

call in a higher power

of God, of Jesus,

of spirit, of Mother Nature.

Yeah. This is kind of my whole thing.

It's really tricky, the Shannon situation.

I really like her, but

Shannon is a shark in a spiritual guru's body.

She just kind of blinds you

with this like, "Let's meditate, let's, ah!"

And she talks, talk, talk, talk, talks,

talk, talk, talk, talk, talks, in such a rhythm,

and it just kind of, like, blinds you

to the fact that this girl is really smart,

this girl is really great at connecting with people.

And ultimately, the two people

that seem to be on the bottom of the tribe are,

obviously, the two Uli members.

And if there was any shot to be taken,

it just comes down to, are we gonna go with Sage

or are we gonna go with Shannon?

A lot of tossing and turning.

-Yeah. -I slept all right.

But it was also the first night

I dreamt about my kids, so that was tough.

-Aw. -Aw.

-Can I ask what? - I have goosebumps.

Like, that makes me sad for you.

Just seeing them, yeah.

NATE Thinking about it.

Aw, Nate.

- It's okay. - Oh.

No, it's all good. It was gonna happen.

- It was gonna happen. - I miss my family, too.

My initial take on Sophi is,

I think she is a little bit of an open book.

This is a temporary situation.

Yeah, that's what I just keep

saying-- it's not forever.

Yeah.

It's hard to imagine, though,

the finish line,

like, at this point.

Like, it feels so far away.

It does.

It totally does.

Ooh.

Sophi's an incredibly loyal family person,

and she's actually very fun to be around.

I think she's looking for a home, and I think

it's clear that she's gonna be an asset to us.

- You guys need a refill or anything? -Oh, yeah.

Okay, cool.

If you're looking at the new Hina tribe,

you got four former Uli, meaning we have the numbers

on this tribe, and even though

the numbers might seem pretty obvious,

you literally never know in this game.

I don't know if you've been... you know, chatted with anyone.

- Um... -Not... not yet.

I just, I feel like I want to get to know all y'all first.

So it is important that I make those connections

with the two former Hina,

which are Jason and Matt.

- Kind of, like, where my head is at, like, at the moment. - Yeah.

It's, like, if you have the numbers, you can, like,

do whatever maneuver that you want.

You know, my bonds on Hina are very strong.

- Mm-hmm. - Um, so, yeah, I don't know.

Like, if y'all keep me around, then, like, I'll make sure

that if we get to a merge,

then I can steer the Hina bullets away from y'all.

- You know what I mean? Um... - Sure. Yeah, I appreciate that.

That old Hina tribe-- like, they were so tight.

Like, I can see that Jason is talking about them now,

like, he's so in love with his old Hina tribe.

So, ultimately,

he's being upfront about where he is.

And honestly, even though I don't like

that he's super into his old Hina tribe,

he's being honest about it.

I was talking to a buddy of mine,

and he said, "Dude, I'm late. I got to go.

I'm late for my job."

I said, "What in the hell job do you have?"

He says, "Oh, I work at the airport, and I get

flight benefits for life."

And I said, "That's brilliant, man.

Are they hiring?" He's like, "Yeah, I think they are.

Come on down. I'll get you on."

Oh, my God.

I do think my interviewing skills are coming

into play right now.

I mean, look, I'm a naturally curious person,

but it also just happens to serve me

really well in this game, too.

There's always more to someone than meets the eye,

and I love digging into that.

So, have you always worked at the airport?

No, I started at the airport about 11 years ago.

-Okay. -Okay.

That's funny you should ask.

I kind of... I kind of thought,

"Am I gonna, like, you know,

- keep it under my hat or am I gonna tell anybody?" -Uh-oh.

Even though Matt might seem like the old-time

loyal player, I'm starting to think he's not.

- Well, don't leave us hanging. -Yeah, what is it?

My-my background is in finance.

Wow.

Wow. I would never have guessed.

I was a branch manager for a brokerage firm for a bit

- and moved up from there. - Wow.

Matt shared with us that he used to be very high up

in the finance world.

And to me, that

raised a red flag.

Why weren't you gonna tell us about your profession?

You're the first person who asked,

"What did you do before that?"

And I wasn't gonna not tell you,

I was just waiting for someone to ask.

It showed me this guy is a lot smarter

than he's coming off.

And that is dangerous, from my perspective.

I feel suspicious of him now.

Matt's super smart.

Did you hear what his background is?

- Oh. ... Oh, yeah. - He was high up.

- Oh, yeah. - And, like, honestly,

like, you don't get to be that high up

without being a freaking sociopath.

- Yeah. - Like, I'm sorry.

And I love him. I think he's super cool.

- Yeah. - But I also think that he's very cutthroat.

- Yes. - I don't know anyone

who's in a leadership position like that

who's not, like, a sociopath.

I'm serious.

Really?

Maybe me, you and Alex should team up.

Oh. I love Alex.

Me too. And I love you.

I was literally praying for the two of you.

Yeah, yeah.

So here's the thing, right?

We're down in numbers.

There's not three tribes. There's two tribes.

I have one person

from my original tribe

who wasn't in my core alliance,

who I haven't talked a ton of strategy with.

This is not the ideal situation whatsoever.

So, I'm choosing to see this as an opportunity,

because a huge part of my strategy and my strengths

are my ability to connect with people in a way

that people feel like the connection is really authentic

because it is. And naturally,

people want to work with people they feel good with.

I just want you to know everything you share with me

- is totally safe. - Same.

And I was just praying to God. I was like, "God,

"I don't need to be in the majority.

Just bring me to the people I'm meant to be with."

- That you're meant to be with? - And when it happened,

I was just like, "Trust."

- You're like, "All right." - All right, this is good.

- She will be fine. - If you will take me under your wing,

- I will... I will do... - We will get there when we...

- Yeah. - No. And I want to be with you.

You're not going anywhere. I'm telling you that right now.

You're not going home.

Shannon-- I've just always felt

good vibes with her.

From the moment we were on the mat at the marooning,

I just felt like she had this spiritual side to her,

um, that I connect with.

I just love how God-centered you are.

- I know. - And I also love that you're a mother.

- Oh, gosh. - One of my best friends

from home is a mom, and there's just a different level

- of compassion and depth. - Yeah.

- Nice. - So I came out here wanting to work with a mom.

Yeah.

Tomorrow is the three-year anniversary of my mom dying.

- Wow. - And so I'm like, "We're gonna..."

I was... I was like, "We are gonna win for her."

- What's her name? - Karen.

- She's still with you. - Yeah, but I call her Kare.

Being without my mom has been

the hardest thing that I've ever had to do.

She's the person I called about

for everything. Um,

my mom had a...

alcohol and pill addiction

that came from a procedure that she had.

And three years ago, I was on my way to work,

and my dad calls me.

And he says, "Baby, she's gone."

I knew that my mom was like this superhero.

She had a master's, she had a PhD.

She was a preacher, she was an author.

Like, she had a perfect, beautiful marriage,

two kids.

I mean, just so much love there.

And it still hit her.

Because addiction does not have this target audience.

My mom was full of life, every adventure.

Like, we traveled everywhere together.

I did everything with her.

Like...

I literally lost my best friend that day.

I swear, I'm not even lying,

she would have, like, bought a ticket to Fiji with us

just to, like, sneak and, like...

And to be, like...

We were... Yeah, we were very close.

I'm like, "Oh, I guess I'll have to go

- on trips with my husband now." - Yeah, right?

My mom is my "why" out here.

At the end of the day,

I'm doing this for my mom.

I really was not expecting

- to walk up to this. - Yeah, I thought there was

- literally nothing. - I was expecting it to be way worse.

- Nothing like fire fast type stuff. - Same. Yeah.

God gives his hardest challenges

- to his... - to his strongest soldiers. Yeah.

I would love to trust Shannon,

but I feel like Shannon's been laying it on thick with

her spirituality and religion here,

which-- no shade towards that at all.

I just noticed, like, she's talked about it

a lot more over here once she saw everybody perked up.

I found faith, like, myself,

- and I found God, like, myself. - Oh.

Wait. I love that.

And she just looks you in the eyes

with those big blue eyes and that smile.

It just makes you feel so safe and comfortable.

- And Jesus says that, you know? - Mm-hmm. He sure does.

And he even says, "Don't worship me. Like, I'm also within you."

- And it's love. It's really beautiful. - Yeah, it's love.

I feel, at this point,

Shannon is coming off as more performative to me.

That's not to say, outside of the game,

that she might not be very genuine, but in the game,

I think she's found a direct pathway

into everybody's hearts and souls.

And I am more of a slow burn,

and I can't fake it.

I can't fake it, whereas I feel like she can just put it on.

And I'm like, "If I'm tired, I'm tired,

and my face is gonna look how it looks."

I know. Oh, my gosh.

So, I see her playing hard.

And it could be like a, "Hey, it's you or me,"

with Shannon right now.

Come on in!

- Look at that. Sophi smiling this time. - Yeah.

Wow. How a tribe swap can change

an attitude.

Oh. Used to that.

For today's challenge, on my go,

five members of each tribe will leap into the ocean.

You're gonna pull a boat

containing your two remaining tribe members

to a series of floating platforms,

where you will collect large wooden cubes.

Once you have them all to shore,

one tribe member must first transport

ten smaller cubes

across a single balance beam.

Then the remaining tribe members will use a wooden plank

to transport the larger wooden cubes

across two balance beams.

Once you have all the cubes to the finish,

you will work together to stack them 20 high.

First to finish wins immunity.

Safe from the vote.

We don't need this one.

Because the tribe that loses

is going to Tribal Council, where somebody

will be the fifth person voted out of Survivor 49,

and as a penalty for losing, I will keep your flint.

Kele, as a tribe,

wearing blue, you are

still working to earn yours for the first time.

which means Matt or Jason.

between Hina and Uli brewing.

And the fact that Uli has majority in this tribe,

we have the opportunity to strike first.

because I found the Beware Advantage back at Uli.

No matter what camp I am at in this game, the same rules apply.

Once I lose immunity,

I got to go to the well and find this thing.

And what marks the cherry on top

is I have three other Uli members

that are gonna help me accomplish this goal.

These guys are just trying to talk strategy,

But as I approach the rock, I still don't see anything...

until I get to this little crevice.

I put the key in.

I turn it, and the chest just speaks to me.

This is

the treasure that I need.

which, honestly, he kind of is.

But they're trying to use that to their advantage

to try to find that crack and leverage it.

But, yeah.

Matt has said my name,

so, Matt's dead to me

in this game at this point.

And I want nothing more than to send him home.

I think it's three on Matt and two on Jason.

Nate wants to vote out Matt.

But for me, personally,

I would actually choose to get rid of Jason.

I don't want to keep someone around

who doesn't want to work with me.

The fact that Uli has all the control within this tribe,

it really becomes a debate

of who's a better person to strike first at.

Matt's been going around trying to devise a plan

and playing really messy and really hard,

but Jason is very cagey.

That, to me, means you don't want to work with me,

so why should you be in this game?

Knowing that there is this ongoing beef

between Hina and Uli,

it does feel very personal.

It does feel very Yankees versus Red Sox,

like a long rivalry

ready to erupt.

And with the opportunity

to eliminate an OG Hina,

you got to take the opportunities that you're given,

so, I'm ready to go to war.

If this is your first time to Tribal, grab a torch,

dip it in and get fire.

This is part of the ritual at Tribal Council because,

in this game, fire represents your life.

And when your fire's gone,

sadly, so are you.

So let's start with you, Nate.

At the end of the challenge, I asked you,

"Is it reasonable for Matt and Jason

and Sophi to be concerned?"

And you were pretty honest and said,

"Yeah, we have the numbers right now."

Yeah, I mean, I think it's reasonable.

You look at the tribes.

There's still four former Uli on this tribe.

And to be quite honest, we took to Sophi kind of immediately.

We do feel like Sophi is a part of us.

So it does put Jason and Matt

- on the outs. -Sophi,

what's it like to hear

that the Uli Four have taken you in?

It feels incredible.

You know, I've seen the empathy from them,

from being on the tribe mats, in the challenges,

and I gravitated towards that,

because I did feel like a lost puppy for a while

who needed to be adopted,

and these people adopted me, and I feel great, you know?

So, Matt, when you got back to the beach,

was it immediately game on

and "let me see if I can figure something out"?

It absolutely was.

And my approach was

to sell why they should keep me

over Jason or Sophi,

but at the time I was making my case,

I had no idea that Sophi had been taken in,

so, that is news to me.

Good on you, Sophi.

- ... - Jason, how about for you?

Because it appears, at least on the surface,

- it's you or Matt. -Jeff, I'm, like,

holding on to dear life with Matt here,

and I think that we've been spending so much time

cultivating these relationships on Hina.

And after the swap,

all of y'all got to keep your relationships,

and me and Matt are here

- fighting for our lives. - Unfortunately.

So, Savannah,

if it's really Matt or Jason,

then it comes down to which one and why.

I will tell you this, Jeff.

I had conversations with both of these guys today.

One of them was very open

to working with me in the future.

The other one said pretty much

that they are going to stay Hina strong.

And so, on the outside, like,

I think it's a little bit odd, but that's just my take.

- Nate? - Well, I think there is the elephant in the room,

which is, my name was thrown out today.

And what we learned today is

we did get two different stories from these men,

and it's interesting to compare and contrast stories and go,

"Oh, somebody's been a little bit

"more forthright and somebody has a little bit

of another game going on."

Matt, does that bode well for you, that comment?

I honestly don't know which one he's referring to.

Jason, can you read between the lines

about what they're saying? Do you know which side

of that conversation you fall on?

I know how I approached everybody,

but I don't know if I am the deceptive one

or if I am the honest one.

I, like, have no idea.

You mean the perception they have of you?

The perception that they have of me.

I don't know what Matt's conversations were.

All I know is what I did,

and hopefully, I said the right things

to be on the right side tonight.

Rizo, what does it say

about how the five of you approached this that

you can sit back and say, "One of them presented this,

and they don't even know who presented what?

The harsh reality is that

the past is the past.

Whatever they had with Hina doesn't matter anymore.

They never even voted together.

and we have two friends that don't come over often,

but they're trying to hang out with us.
