Well, I had a sad C -section at 1 in the morning. The patient was 10

centimeters, but the head was still like minus 2, minus 3. I don't know what the

baby was in there doing. What have you been doing?

Most days, it's a good day.

Yeah, and some days, non -talkative days.

Right. Good days and bad days.

About a year ago, my dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. When my dad was in

Mississippi, it meant my family was kind of scurrying about and having to drive

for hours to get him help. I really thought bringing him here to Atlanta

could fix it. But that hasn't been the case.

It's a progression downward.

You know, we're just pretty much getting into that, you know, stage of our lives

where helping to take care of the parents just kind of becomes part of it.

I go by Daddy, it is, I go in always hoping that the old Daddy would

be there.

You know, I was a Daddy's girl, and so that was my rock.

He has been that man in my life that, you know, I look to him for almost

any and everything.

When I made bad financial decisions, when I made bad boyfriend decisions,

whatever it was, I could go to my dad and calmer heads would always prevail.

You know, we've had those episodes where he's had seizure activity, which looks

like cardiac arrest, but he's breathing and he has a pulse.

And so they asked me to sign DNR papers.

How did you feel about that?

I haven't signed them yet.

Because I can't. And the thought of me making a decision as a physician

and as a daughter to say I'm not going to resuscitate my father takes me to a

really bad place.

Yeah. I pondered and questioned and prayed about what's the right thing to

whether to sign a DNR, do not resuscitate, order or not.

It's a lot. It's just, I'm warring with two sides.

I'm worrying with the doctor, who is every day facing it and handling it.

But the other side of me is his daughter, who absolutely loves her

What would you do?

You know, in my mind, I always think that quality of life is the most

thing.

I can relate to Jackie right now, even though my father's not dying.

He's gone.

Alcoholism has stolen him from me.

That's a lot of pressure.

That's tough.

sure my mom thinks that everything is always okay, and I got it.

But some days it gets really tough.

I think the good thing about family is we're all in it together.

And then probably one of the hardest parts for me is...

When you get on here,

I have to make a decision.

They are looking to me not only as a family member, but they're looking to me

a doctor to make a decision to do a DNR, do not resuscitate, should my father

have respiratory or cardiac arrest.

I've not been able to ever sign that DNR paper, though. Well, I'm not going to

say I would do that.

So you don't. God is in the plan. We don't want you to do that because that

forever be in your heart that you did it.

Don't do it. Well, you know, I go along, I support whatever the decision is. And

I know you do.

We support it. And I know you hate to be the one to make it. Yeah. But know that

you're making it for me and I'm okay with it.

I would always want to honor and respect my dad's wishes, but I don't know what

they are. We never really had the opportunity to talk about it.

It's hard.

So let me finalize what we say. On the DNR statement, I'm not signing it,

and we're all okay with me not signing it. I don't think I will sign for life

support. Okay. But if they can pump... A heart and a word, that's life number

eight. Right. Whenever God gets ready for Leroy, he's going to take him.
