I'm Davy Jones and I do comic strips for Viz magazine.

I do stuff like The Real El Twats and Gilbert Ratched and Major

and stuff like that.

I'm trying to draw a scene of the Scala's auditorium and trying to capture

of the mayhem of it. So far I've done four scenes from the anecdote about

the Scala.

So, for instance, the story of Shane McGowan taking a piss in the

auditorium and then the plan is to fill up the seats in the

auditorium with various other characters related to the Scarlet and related to

the films that they famously showed.

We were thinking maybe...

Get King Kong in there, because King Kong was part of the start and the

of the Scala, I believe.

And other people like Spandau Ballet and Divine, perhaps, and some of the

characters from Clockwork Orange.

I quite fancy drawing Leatherface, so I'm hoping to squeeze him in there as

well. I grew up in Hereford, in the West Midlands.

And so we didn't really have somewhere like the Scala there. But I think I

have very much liked it if we did have that.

We had an Odeon in the Hereford, and that was pretty much it. In fact,

was one of the councils that banned Monty Python, The Life of Brian.

And so I didn't get to see that until ten years after it was released.

So, yes, I think the Scala would have been a good thing.

growing up i think um as a cartoonist uh especially doing the the kind

of um nonsense that we're doing viz we're very often drawing um characters

fairly extreme characters and and and fairly extreme um goings -on

and uh so i think that this seemed to fit in with that quite well really
