Varroa mites-

are tiny predators
that prey on bees.

They are so deadly-

that they are wiping
out bee populations-

North America.

So that must be what caused
Garrett's colony to die off.

because Newfoundland
is an island-

it's one of the only places
that Varroa mites don't exist.

And there are very strict
regulations in place-

to keep it
that way.

How'd they end
up in Garrett's hive?

One of the bee

A dead queen
