Too wet.

- Why do you look like that? - Like what?

Like that, scared.

Because you're acting crazy, Uncle Jim.

Because I want to go home.

You don't have to be afraid when you're with me.

You know, nothing can happen.

Nothing bad can happen when you're with me.

You said you wanted us to be together.

That can't happen if we die out here.

We're lost, and we need help.

I can't get the fire started.

I read that if you shoot your gun into the air three times,

that means S.O.S.

That way, they can find us.

Oh, okay.

You mean like this, huh? Huh?

Is that what you wanted me to do,

so that now maybe the cavalry will come?

Oh, I know you're watching me, and I know what you're thinking!

We're gonna send old Uncle Jim to jail! Oh, yes!

But that's not gonna happen

'cause I'm gonna walk right outta here with my girl

and start a life together!

Do you hear me?

I am gonna walk right outta here

with my girl and make a life!

What, you don't want to play?

Huh?

Jim? Jim?

Stay on the ground!

Keep your hands where we can see them!

It's okay now, Hannah.

Everything is good. It's over.

- Hey, sweetheart. - Dad.

Hi.

Where's Mom and Ethan?

Are they back in San Diego? Are they okay?

Hannah.

Dad, tell me they're okay.

Please?

Hannah, I'm so sorry.

No.

I'm so sorry.

After a harrowing rescue from her kidnapper...

Hannah Anderson was treated at local hospital.

According to reports, Anderson was not aware...

Anderson was not aware of the murders

of her mother and younger brother Ethan.

Reunited with her father,

Hannah is expected to return home to Lakeside, California,

on Monday.

You know, a lot of people spent a lot of time looking for you.

They're gonna be really happy to see you.

What about Mom and Ethan?

- Hannah... - He was feight years old.

It should've been me.

Don't say that.

You weren't there, Dad. I could've done something.

I should have saved them. I didn't even try.

You don't think I have regrets, Hannah?

There are a million things I'd have done differently.

We can't change what's happened, no matter how much we want to.

Hey, I'm just glad I have you.

Hannah, sir, any comment?

Has she given you any details?

Hannah. Hannah, how are you doing?

How does it feel to be back with your dad?

Thirty seconds, Hannah. That's all we need.

Just 30 seconds on the stoop.

Thank you.

Hannah.

Mr. Anderson, how does it feel

to have all this support for your daughter?

Mr. Anderson!

Hannah sends her love. She's doing good day by day.

Right now we're just looking towards her future

and getting her settled in.

- Thank you. - Can I talk to you later?

Hannah!

Uh, some people brought stuff by.

I put it up in your room in case you want it.

Thanks.

Hey, we're gonna be okay.

I'm gonna check the messages.

Cassie's here.

Welcome to the Anderson carnival.

Are you a family member?

Uh, I'm just a friend, a good friend of Hannah's.

- How is she doing? - Can you tell her to come out?

We want to hear more about what happened in the woods.

What exactly... What kind of friendship do you...

Do you... Hello... Excuse...

Can you believe the press out there?

What, are you hiding One Direction in here somewhere?

I wish.

How are you holding up?

Good days and bad days.

I look in the mirror,

and it's like I don't even recognize myself anymore.

It's just gonna take time. I'm really glad you're home.

Yeah, it's nice. I guess it's nice.

Sometimes I still feel like I'm a prisoner, you know?

Then why hide? I mean, go out there and talk to them.

Are you kidding? My dad would freak.

You're everywhere,

and I am not just talking about on the news.

It is all over the place online.

Really?

You mean you don't know?

You gotta see this. Come on.

Oh, come on. There can't be that many.

You're trending.

You weren't kidding.

This is, like, totally insane.

Well, everyone wants to know what happened to you.

Let's check your in box.

I've been gone for, like, a week, so of course...

Wait. 1,097?

You know, just 'cause you can't talk to people outside

doesn't mean you can't answer a few questions.

- Cassie. - What?

What are you so afraid of? Just a couple.

Fine.

Okay. "Are you glad that Jim was shot,

or would you rather him be in prison?"

Um, shot. He got what he deserved.

Good one.

Okay, let's do one more.

"Did he tell you he had a crush on you,

or is that just a rumor?"

- What should I say? - Move over.

He said he had a family crush.

He had feelings, but he just wanted to protect me.

Kind of creepy.

Yeah.

Ooh, here's a good one.

"You're hot."

"LOL. Thanks."

- "What's your favorite color?" - Pink.

"What's your favorite movie?"

Mm, Step Brothers.

"What's your favorite music?"

Mm, Drake.

What?

Um...

"They say you wrote letters to Jim

and spent a lot of time with him.

Why'd you run away with the guy?"

- Hannah. - No, I'm gonna answer this.

Okay, it's just some crazy troll.

Can I sit, please?

He said he would murder me.

Does that sound like someone I'd run away with?

Everything all right in here?

Cass, maybe you should head home now.

Yeah.

- Bye, Mr. A. - See ya, kiddo.

Dad.

I think you should stay offline for a while.

These people have no idea what you went through.

I like meat. I just don't like red meat.

How can you not like red meat? It's the Cadillac of meats.

Because it's bad for you,

and Cadillacs are for old people anyway.

Haven't you ever heard the slogan,

"Beef, it does a body good"?

That's milk.

Well, it should be beef, at least with stir-fry.

So, what classes are you gonna take this year?

Basic core.

- Sounds like a workout. - Something like that.

What about geometry?

I aced geometry.

That was last year, Dad.

Right. Sorry.

Here you go.

What's wrong?

Mom used to make the fried rice with chunks of yolk.

- It's okay. I can just... - Dad...

- No, listen... - Dad, it's fine.

It's okay, really.

Sorry. I just feel...

It's been so long.

We'll be fine. You just...

You need to stop trying to fix everything, okay?

And in other news, what was once viewed

as a Hollywood movie-style rescue and homecoming

has now taken an odd turn.

- You've gotta stop watching... - Shh.

...amid the Hannah Anderson social media frenzy,

Hannah herself took to a chat room tonight,

holding court with moonstruck fans on a number of topics,

including which young celebrity she'd like to date.

Certainly a far cry from the quiet victim

we've seen portrayed since her rescue.

And in...

You went on a chat room?

I just answered a few questions.

It's none of their business.

You should hear some of the things that they're saying.

And talking to them will only make it worse.

You ever think that they're just setting you up

to knock you down?

Is that why you said no to The Today Show interview?

We need to focus on our stuff, not theirs.

I could use help with the funeral.

Reports are coming in now from various...

Hannah, the funeral next week.

...relationship with her captor, Jim DiMaggio.

Some are even suggesting a romantic link between the two,

including a vacation she and DiMaggio took together

alone in Los Angeles.

Back to you.

Hannah.

What are you doing?

I can't let them say those things!

No, Hannah, not like this.

Every accusation, every question you answer,

they're just gonna throw two more at you.

Did you hear what they're saying?

Just give it time, I promise.

That's easy for you to say!

You're not the one being called the Lakeside Lolita!

Hannah!

Don't let 'em get to you.

They're just trying to get a reaction out of you.

Hannah, any comment on reports

that you were having a relationship with Jim DiMaggio?

Wait for me.

- Excuse me. - Anything at all, sir?

Excuse me. Not now.

Come on. It's a funeral.

- Not now. - But Jim DiMaggio...

- Hannah? - No comment.

Any comment at all?

Hi.

Hi, Sara.

- You probably need this, huh? - Thank you.

Look. You're famous.

They love talking about me. There's a big difference.

Maybe you'll get movie offers.

They're saying that I killed them, Cassie,

that I killed my mom and Ethan.

What?

They're saying that Uncle Jim and I...

that we...

How could they say those things about me?

Hannah, you okay?

It's fine. Just calm down.

It's gonna be fine, okay?

Okay. I can't.

For the death of Tina and Ethan,

there are no easy words.

We are touched by this evil,

and we will never be the same again.

These senseless acts

were an abomination

in the eyes of God and humankind alike.

We pray for you, Hannah,

and we pray for your whole family.

And we ask for the Lord

to help you to lift the burden

of this awful happening

and to find strength in God at this difficult time.

Amen.

Hey, do you guys want to take a photo?

- Sure. - Cool. Come on.

Okay, ready?

Good. Thanks for coming, you guys.

You're welcome.

Ethan loved football, loved his team.

The season was supposed to start in two weeks.

I just thought I'd take some Instagram photos

to remember him, you know?

I'm so sorry for your loss.

Thank you, Agent McKinnon.

- How are you holding up? - Okay, I suppose.

Uh, I wouldn't let them bother you.

It's just a lot of people talking, that's all.

Thank you.

You're a strong girl, Hannah.

And don't let anyone take away from the memory

of your mother and your brother.

I won't.

And, look, if you ever want to talk...

And I mean it.

Thank you.

I promise it will get better.

Thanks for believing.

There's not so many of you out there anymore.

Hannah!

All right, you guys, come on. Leave the girl alone.

Let's go. Let's go. Out. Leave her alone.

Get out. Come on. Get out. Let's go.

They said you were smiling at the funeral.

I was just taking pictures with Ethan's team.

That you then posted online.

To remember him.

Hannah, you have to think about how this looks to other people.

Right. If I do smile, then I don't miss them.

If I don't smile, then I'm a bitch.

What am I supposed to do?

I'm sorry. It's...

It's just a lot for me, you know?

I know.

I'm going to turn it off.

Good idea.

...that it looks like a place he escaped to.

We'll never know all of the answers, will we?

But I believe that he ran...

- Dad. - Your dinner's getting cold.

Dad, come here.

What are you saying?

I'm saying that I remember...

- What is it? - very clearly...

- That's his sister. - telling Jim that I thought

Hannah was trouble.

Trouble? What do you mean?

I told him he needed to watch out for her.

Well, what specific things did Hannah do

to make you so wary of her?

She was like a puppy dog with Jim...

flirty, sending him pictures,

just not normal things.

Forgive me, but why didn't your brother

just distance himself,

say something to her parents?

He was very close with the Andersons,

and he only wanted to help Tina and the kids

while Brett was in Tennessee.

He wouldn't have wanted to add to their stress.

That's the type of friend he was.

Hannah knew he'd keep quiet, and she took advantage of that.

I wouldn't put anything past her.

What about murder?

I wouldn't put anything past her.

But what I know for sure

is that Jim wouldn't hurt anybody.

Anybody.

Those are total lies, Dad. How can she get away with that?

Because she can point to a girl posting Instagram pictures,

doing online chats,

and say you're being flippant about all of this.

- Dad! - Don't "Dad" me!

You got to knock it off with the selfies!

I already warned you about all that stuff,

and I shouldn't have to do it again, Hannah.

She basically said I killed Mom and Ethan.

Are you okay with her saying that about your daughter?

Dad.

No.

No, I'm not okay with that at all.

We need to fight back.

Fight back?

I have to answer this.

You want the spotlight to shine even hotter, huh?

Because if we go in that direction,

there is no getting it back in the bottle, none,

and the attacks are going to be even crueler.

Are you ready for that?

I need to tell the truth.

It's the only thing that matters to me now.

Call The Today Show .

Agree to the interview.

Please.

Okay, right this way.

- You okay? - Yeah.

We're thrilled to have you, Hannah.

- Is this your first time on TV? - Yeah.

You're gonna be great.

This is the craft service table. Help yourself to anything...

coffee, tea, soda, whatever you'd like.

Parker needs a copy of the rundown.

Thank you. Right this way.

It's all right.

- Colleen Ryan. - Ms. Ryan, hi.

- Colleen, please. - Hi.

I'm so glad that you decided to come on and share your story.

Thanks.

How are you feeling? Are you okay?

I'm just a little nervous.

After what you've been through,

this is gonna seem like a walk in the park.

- Thanks. - You'll be fine.

Go ahead.

This?

- Mic check. - One, two, one, two.

Thank you.

Places, everyone!

We're back.

Five, four, three...

It has been over a month since Hannah Anderson was kidnapped

by the man believed to have murdered

her mother and young brother.

She now joins us in the studio to talk about that ordeal.

Hannah Anderson, good morning to you.

How are you doing today?

Um, good.

Tell me, why is it important for you to speak out?

I feel like a lot of people have been judging me,

judging what I went through,

making up stuff they don't have the answers to.

So by speaking out,

you're hoping that you can put

a lot of the speculation to rest.

Silence them once and for all.

Yeah, hopefully.

So I want to go back to the beginning,

to your family's relationship with Jim DiMaggio,

somebody you knew your entire life.

What was he like?

I'd known him since I was born.

Ethan, get ready for dinner.

Can you help me get some stuff from the kitchen, please?

Come on.

Uh-oh, uh-oh. Who's this guy?

Oh! Gotcha. Nice.

Jeez.

All right. Hey, remember everything I taught you?

- Yep. - Right? Firm stance.

Open palm.

And go for the pressure points.

Oh! Oh! Nice, nice, nice, nice. What if I do that?

Ethan, don't.

Sorry, girl.

Did you talk to your mom about what we talked about?

- Not yet. - What?

So you know how my birthday's coming up?

- Uh-huh. - Uncle Jim invited me

to go to L.A. with him.

It's just for the weekend.

I got a bunch of stuff I gotta take up to my sister's.

I thought she'd come along for the ride.

Oh, Hannah, I don't know.

Mom, why not?

Why don't I want my 15-year-old...

- Sixteen. - Sorry.

My 16-year-old daughter to go to Los Angeles

without a parent?

It's 130 miles away, for starters.

She's not a little girl anymore.

I'll talk to my daughter as I see fit.

You don't really talk to her. You talk down to her.

Yeah, Mom.

She'll be with me the whole time, okay?

I mean, you know nothing bad can happen.

Plus, Uncle Jim taught me and Ethan self-defense,

so nobody will hurt me.

- Well, I'll think about it. - That means no.

It means I'll think about it.

- Dad would've said yes already. - Really? You're gonna go there?

Whatever.

Hannah.

- You never let me do anything. - Hannah!

Don't ever tell me how to raise my daughter.

Ever.

Not long after, we found out that Uncle Jim had lost his job

and probably his house.

I didn't know when I'd see him again.

So Mom let me go.

One last trip with Uncle Jim.

Look at this.

It must be awesome to be loved by so many people.

Well, people love talking about them,

but there's a big difference.

Spencer Tracy. Who's that?

Oh, he's just an old-time movie star

from way back in the old days.

- Like the '90s? - Before that.

Oh.

- Who you got? - No one.

This is gonna be mine someday.

- Oh, really? - Yeah.

You want that kind of attention, huh?

Are you kidding? Who wouldn't want to be famous?

All right. Well, here, let me, hmm?

Here you go. Come on. Really work it, all right?

Here we go. Nice.

- Like this? - Yeah, yeah.

Keep going. That's good. That's good.

Arch your back a little. That's fine. That's good.

- Nice. - Okay, let me see.

That's good. What?

What? Who are you sending it to?

Instagram. Dylan's gonna freak when he sees these.

Is Dylan like a boyfriend or something?

- More like a friend-friend. - Oh.

Is that Jake Gyllenhaal sitting over there with Channing Tatum?

- Oh. - Gotcha.

You're bad.

This is so good.

My mom cooks, like, the same five things over and over.

At least my dad used to have a little variety.

Yeah. How's your dad doing anyway?

You talk to him recently?

Mom says they're taking time apart,

but being 2,000 miles away isn't helping.

Right, right. You and Ethan hanging in?

He's still so little, thinks everything's fine.

Right. And you?

Great. I love watching my family fall apart.

You shouldn't have to deal with those kinds of things.

You should be free, doing what you want to do,

you know, doing what feels good.

Tell that to my mom.

She doesn't get along with anyone.

My dad's side of the family won't even talk to her.

She's just so...

I don't even know anymore.

Well, you've got me.

Yeah.

But for how long? I mean,

who knows where you'll end up?

Well, let's not worry about that now.

I'm just enjoying the moment.

- Yeah. - Yeah.

I was just thinking, you know,

you know, if you were a little older,

or, you know, if we were the same age or, I don't know...

- What? - I know, it's funny, right?

It's just, uh...

I was thinking like I...

I have a crush on you.

- What do you mean? - Like a family thing.

Like I care about you.

Mm, Dylan just liked the photo.

Oh, of course he did.

Trying to have a conversation here.

It'll just take one second.

Yeah, well, whatever you're texting or posting,

that can wait till later, okay?

- Jealous much? - Hey.

You know, I'm... I'm trying to open up to you here.

I mean, the least you could do is listen, right?

I mean, has Dylan ever taken you to Hollywood?

- Why are you doing this? - Now I'm doing something?

It looks to me like you're the one

being a little bit ungrateful.

Can I have my phone back, please?

- Let's get out of here. - Go where?

My sister's. I'm done here.

- But why? - I damn said so, that's why.

Come on.

It seemed kind of really weird.

Did you ever tell anyone

what happened in Los Angeles, what he said to you?

Why not?

Because my dad and him were best friends,

so I didn't want to ruin things between them.

It's been two days,

and you haven't said a word about your trip with Uncle Jim.

What's to say?

Well, was it fun?

Lovely, yeah.

She was crying in her room today.

Shut your pie hole, Ethan!

Be nice to your brother, Hannah.

Look, kids, I know it hasn't been easy,

but Uncle Jim really has been a big help

since your dad left.

He never just left-left.

He's working, and he's trying to hold this family together,

which is more than I can say for you.

We're all trying, Hannah.

Maybe I should just live with him.

Look, I know you don't think

I know what you're going through, but I do.

- Trust me, you don't. - Well, then tell me, please.

How can I help you if you don't tell me anything?

Dad'll be back soon, right?

- Yeah, right. - Hannah.

What? Be real with the kid. He deserves to know the truth.

Ethan, honey.

Look, Uncle Jim invited us over one last time

before he moves on Saturday.

So you better get that attitude in check,

or you and I are gonna have a major problem.

I can't. I have cheer camp.

Well, then you'll go after camp. Have I made myself clear?

Let's talk about the first day, that Saturday.

You were at cheerleading camp?

Yeah, my cheer girls, who I coach,

had camp at Sweetwater High, so my mom dropped me off.

See you later. Bye.

Jim picked me up

because my brother's game had already finished,

so they were going to meet us up there at his house.

And when he picked you up, did everything seem ordinary?

Yeah, it was perfectly normal.

Everything was fine.

The girls must be getting pretty good.

- They're working really hard. - You enjoying it?

Yeah. I like helping them.

Good. It's important to have something in your life

that you love, you know?

Yeah.

I wanted to apologize about what happened in L.A.,

the way everything went down, you know,

some of the things I said.

It's just that there's been

a lot of stress with the move and everything.

But I shouldn't have done it.

Don't worry about it.

You sure? 'Cause I felt bad afterwards.

It's fine. It's all good.

Good. I'm glad to hear that.

It's good to know that you and I are okay.

You know, it means a lot to me.

So, at what point do you realize that something is really wrong?

When we got to the house and my mom's car wasn't there.

Where's my mom's car?

Oh, you know, Ethan probably went next door

to play with the kids.

You know how they are.

You coming?

Where's my family?

Uh, why don't you grab me a beer and we'll talk about it.

Thank you.

Sit, please.

Tell me what's going on. Where's my mom and Ethan?

Um...

I'll tell you if you sit.

Help! Somebody!

I wouldn't do that if I were you.

Get over here.

I taught you that, remember?

- Help me! - Shut up, or I'll kill 'em!

What did you say?

Okay, look, I don't...

I don't want to hurt anyone, Hannah, okay?

But I will do what I have to do. Do you understand?

This isn't you. Why are you acting like this?

Do you understand?

Yes.

Get on the chair.

I don't understand, Uncle Jim.

Is this some kind of test, some kind of...

Put these on. Put the other end through the armchair, okay?

I'm gonna bind your feet now, okay?

As long as you stay calm, no one has to get hurt.

- You understand? - Where's my mother?

She and your brother are safe, as long as you stay calm.

Now I just want to explain everything to you

so you can understand why you don't need to be afraid.

I don't want to leave San Diego,

but they took my job, and they took my home.

And... there's just nothing left for me here.

Of course there is.

Just let me go, and we can talk.

You know, we could... we could start a whole new life,

just you and me, you know?

You know, get away from all this, away from your mother.

You know, I mean, that's... that's what you want, right?

I mean, freedom?

Please let me go.

Uncle Jim, what are you doing with that?

No. Please, no.

How many things in life give you a five in six chance to win?

Not many, hmm?

Don't do this!

You have so much to live for!

Oh, Hannah, tell me all about what I have to live for,

because you've already made it clear how you feel about me.

Now maybe two can play, hmm?

- Please. Please don't do this. - Okay, five in six.

Five in six, five in six.

Just tell me where my mom and Ethan are first.

They're safe.

They're in the garage.

Ethan?

Ethan, I'm here. It's okay.

No one has to get hurt, okay?

Now tell me what it was I had to live for.

I'll go.

Just please don't hurt anybody.

This is gonna be a whole new life for us.

Uncle Jim, I don't feel good. I think I'm gonna throw up.

I have something for that. Hang on.

Pills.

Okay, there we go.

Okay.

Here. Take this.

- What is that? - Just take it.

There. Uh. Okay.

- There you go. - Oh.

I'll do whatever you want.

- Just let my mom and Ethan go. - Shh, shh, shh.

It's okay. I told you they're safe, okay?

It's all gonna be fine.

No. I don't feel so good.

No, no, everything's gonna be okay.

It's gonna be okay. It's gonna be okay.

No, I don't think so.

Don't try to move. You'll just hurt yourself.

What did you give me?

It's all right.

- Uncle Jim... - It's okay.

It's okay.

Hey, Kelly.

Stay.

Oh, boy.

Well, the main house is pretty much destroyed.

Luckily, the firefighters were able to stop it

before it destroyed the garage, too.

Does the arson investigator have any idea what happened?

Accident, faulty wiring maybe?

You need to see this.

Firefighters discovered this when they made entry.

My God.

Female, late 30's, early 40's.

I'm working on the I.D. now.

Is she the homeowner?

Working on it.

This is Brett.

Jim's house?

And this was on the news?

I'll check it out. Thanks for the heads-up.

Jesus.

Aw, Jim.

Come on, come on.

Hey, Tina, it's me.

I think something horrible might have happened to Jim.

Can you please call me when you get this?

Thank you for coming.

On August 4th, deputies and fire personnel

responded to a structure fire

in the unincorporated community of Boulevard.

They entered the structure and found a body inside.

The victim has been identified as Christina Anderson,

and it has been determined that Ms. Anderson

had been murdered.

Sheriff and arson investigators searched through the rubble

of one of the burned buildings on the property

and found the remains of a child.

The child's identity

has not been determined at this time.

The suspect in this murder and arson

has been identified as James Lee DiMaggio,

the 40-year-old owner of the residence.

Upon an extensive search of the property,

bomb and arson investigators

located a number of explosives,

apparently homemade by DiMaggio,

that had been set up to 24 hours prior to detonation.

The location of Ms. Anderson's children,

16-year-old Hannah Anderson...

and 8-year-old Ethan Anderson,

is unknown.

It is believed that one or both of the children

have been abducted by DiMaggio,

whose whereabouts are also unknown.

An Amber Alert has been activated

in the hopes that the children and DiMaggio

can be located.

DiMaggio is believed to be driving a blue Nissan Versa,

California license plate 6WCU986.

The San Diego County Sheriff's Office

is going to be working in conjunction with

Agent Frank McKinnon of the FBI,

who will be heading up our search

for DiMaggio and the children.

Now, if you have any questions,

I'd be happy to try and answer them.

Hi.

- He was your friend. - Sara...

None of this would have happened if you'd been here.

Honey, honey, come on now. You know it's done.

Can't we just put everything back to order

and just worry about finding the kids?

Come on, Brett.

Put on a decent shirt

and look like a responsible father.

- Mr. Anderson? - Yeah.

I'm Special Agent Frank McKinnon.

Oh, yeah, Glenn said you'd be coming by.

Mr. Anderson, can I have a word with you in private?

Yeah.

You'll have to excuse my in-laws.

Things haven't exactly been the best between us lately.

I need to tell you something,

and it's going to be very painful.

What is it?

We're still waiting on a dental match,

but it's almost certain

that the second body found in the house was Ethan.

No, uh, the press conference...

the guy, the detective, he said that he didn't know, right?

Yeah, I know, but our medical examiner

is pretty certain that the dental records will confirm it.

I'm sorry.

No...

Ethan.

God...

I don't... I don't understand this.

Jim was my friend. He was our friend.

I just asked him to watch out for the family while I was gone,

you know, check in once in a while.

Why would he do this?

We found a box in his house full of 8x10 glossies

of Hannah, printed from various Web sites,

social media, that sort of thing.

A lot of the photos could be considered

a little suggestive.

Oh, God.

I am going to bring your daughter back to you.

I feel that in my heart, and you have my word.

Hey.

Here you go, boys.

Nah, come on. It's on the house.

Have a great one. See ya.

- You help me, and I'll help you. - Excuse me?

What can I get for you?

Oh, uh...

Just, uh... Just these.

Help.

Help.

What, you going camping?

You know, personally, I absolutely hate the dried fruit.

It tastes like plastic.

Give me a candy bar any day of the week, right?

It'll be, uh, 18.35.

Sir? It's 18.35.

Yeah.

Out of 50.

Help me.

Oh, you gotta be kidding me.

This thing jams on me. I'm sorry.

I keep telling my manager I gotta get a new one.

One second. I just gotta jimmy it.

Oh, God. I'm sorry.

This thing's always...

Oh, my God.

Oh, God.

What do you think you're doing?

You could've gotten hurt.

Someone is looking out for us.

It's truly meant to be,

just like I said.

The following is a Fox News alert.

A massive manhunt is still going on this morning

for this man, suspected killer James Lee DiMaggio,

and two children he may have abducted,

Hannah and Ethan Anderson,

the two children of Christina Anderson,

who was found dead

in DiMaggio's scorched California home.

At this hour, an Amber Alert is still in effect

for 16-year-old Hannah and 8-year-old Ethan.

Joining me now is the father of these two missing children,

Brett Anderson.

Good morning to you, sir.

Good morning.

As a parent, as a human being,

I can't imagine the pain you must be going through.

You've lost your wife,

you don't know what's happened to your two children,

and you weren't there to really know the details.

Tell me, what do you think happened on Saturday?

All I know is that he killed my wife,

most likely my son.

We're just waiting on the DNA test.

And he took my daughter.

If Jim DiMaggio is listening,

is there anything you would like to say to him?

Uh, tell him the damage has been done.

Get your head together and let my daughter go.

Let her come home to me.

You're leaving.

They got several sightings up in Nevada.

I just keep imagining this was Becca, you know?

They found large trash bags in the attic of this guy's garage,

receipts,

boxes of handcuffs.

Apparently, he's been planning this for weeks.

Oh, my God.

I promised her father I'd get her back, Nic.

And you will.

Where do you think Jim and Hannah are?

Not right now.

Is the search expanding up to Canada?

Is it true that Hannah and DiMaggio were texting each other

extensively on the day of the murders and the abduction?

We will not be commenting on my daughter tonight.

Please respect that decision.

- Hi. - Hi.

Father.

I can't say how much it means to me,

to us,

to see you all out here supporting Hannah.

Tonight, each one of you

is a member of her family.

And I know my daughter isn't here right now,

but I believe...

and I know each one of you believes...

that we will see her smiling face again soon.

And to my beautiful wife...

and son,

I will love you both forever.

And I will see you someday in heaven.

And the next thing you know, you're in Idaho.

Yeah.

Where's my mom and Ethan?

Uh, don't worry about them. They're back at the house.

- But are they okay? - They're fine.

They're tied up.

Where are we?

Someplace safe.

Okay.

Come on. Let's go.

Come on.

What are you doing?

Lake's a couple of days' hike into the forest.

What about the car?

We'll hide it.

Hide it? Why?

It's just you and me now, okay?

We don't need anyone else anymore.

We can take care of ourselves.

Now go find me some branches so we can cover the car.

The thicker the better.

Let's get something clear between us.

What's happening right now, this,

we need each other to make this work, like a team, right?

But I'm getting the feeling that you're not on the team.

So, as much as I like you, Hannah,

if you wander off or disobey me again,

I will have no other choice but to put a bullet in your head.

Last thing I want, but I will,

and it will be your fault.

Do you understand me?

Good.

Now help me cover the car, okay?

You set out on a hike.

Tell me about that trip

because that is some rugged terrain.

It was really slippery.

There's lots of rocks and boulders.

So you'd trip and fall and slip down and stuff.

And he made me carry these 50-pound backpacks.

There was two of them.

Come on. We gotta make camp before the storm hits.

I don't wanna do this anymore.

What do you think I brought you out here for?

You're young. You're athletic. You can do it.

Uncle Jim, please.

It'll flatten out once we get around this bend.

Hannah!

Hannah.

- Are you all right? Huh? - I don't know.

Do you think you can... Hang on, hang on, hang on.

Think you can stand, huh?

- Ah! My knee. It really hurts. - Okay, okay. Oh, okay, okay.

Here, here. All right, let me help you. All right?

Let's just get you up. Now let me help you there.

Okay.

Now, come on.

Oh! Oh! I need a doctor, please.

No, no, no, no, no. Here, let me help you.

Listen, I promise we'll get this thing wrapped once we make camp,

but right now we just gotta keep moving, all right?

Just hang on a second.

Can you stand for two seconds?

All right, come here. Come here.

All right, nice and easy. Nice and easy. Come on.

Come on.

In all of that time, was there ever a moment

where you thought,

"Maybe I can make a run for it, maybe I can escape"?

Yeah, a lot,

but he had a gun and threatened to kill me

or anyone else who tried to help.

- Hannah? - Don't.

- What are you doing? - It's over.

Whatever you think this is, whatever you have planned,

I'm going home.

What are you gonna do, shoot me?

If I have to.

Then go ahead. Shoot me.

Finally, you want to play.

Five in six, remember?

- It's fully loaded. - Then I guess I'm screwed.

I don't want to be here anymore! I want to go home!

Then pull the trigger,

and you can do anything you want to do.

Hell, you can drive to Tennessee

and be with your father if you want to.

You need gas money?

More than enough.

All you gotta do is kill me.

Do it!

I can't.

You should eat something.

I'm fine. Thanks.

You're not doing her any good

if you pass out from hunger, exhaustion.

When's the last time you slept?

What day is it?

I'm trying to funnel some tips to Agent McKinnon.

I just... still feel so helpless.

He likes to go to the middle of nowhere.

So... that narrows it down to only...

20,000 square miles.

What if they don't find her?

No, no.

That agent looked me in the eye and he made me a promise.

But you were right, Sara.

I never should've left. I should've stayed.

I should've...

been more of a father.

I know what I said.

It was just emotions.

And you know I'm sorry. I am.

I know you were a good father.

Now you're going to eat that food.

Okay.

And I'm gonna see you in the morning, okay?

Okay. Thanks.

Now, at one point in the middle of the week,

you and Jim ran into four people on horseback.

What happened?

No, no, no, no, no.

You're not listening to what I'm saying.

I'm not saying it would be exactly like the United States.

All I'm saying is that, if we wanted,

Idaho could be very self-sufficient, that's it.

Mark, what would we live off of?

Potatoes and fish and great views?

Yep, we'd do that,

and we could also have trade partners just like the U.S.

Keep quiet, or I'll have to kill them.

- Is that what you want? - No.

All right, well, you let me do the talking.

Hey, there.

Nice day for a ride.

Yeah. A little bit warm, but we're okay.

This your daughter?

Yep. Spending some quality time with my baby girl.

They grow up so fast, huh?

Where you all headed?

You know, you're in one of the most godforsaken places

on God's green earth.

And your baby girl there, she's dressed up

like she's heading to a slumber party.

Yeah, we're heading over to Morehead Lake.

Well, you know, if you're headed to the lake,

you're heading in the wrong direction.

Morehead's about

five miles back that way.

Where you from?

We hardly ever see anybody up here.

Uh, Texas.

- Hmm. - You don't have an accent.

No, actually, that's not the first time I've heard that.

- Right, sweetie? - Yeah.

Anyway, morning to ya.

- We didn't catch your names. - Dan and Laura.

Huh. Well, Dan and Laura, it's a pleasure to meet you two.

I'm Mark. This is my wife Christa.

And this here are the Youngs, Mike and Mary.

Hi.

Nice to meet ya. Have a nice day.

Dan, I'd be, uh, careful with that tent.

That tree there'd be a pretty good lightning rod

in a storm.

Thank you, sir, for the warning.

Uh, we'll heed that. Thank you.

Take care now.

And when they walked away and nothing happened,

did you think that that was it,

there went my chance?

I know what you were doing today.

- What? - You were signaling to them.

No.

Don't you lie to me!

I'm not lying.

You think I don't hurt, too, huh?

You don't think I feel pain?

I've had pain my whole life, the worst kind of pain.

And now I am so close to getting away from it.

Yeah.

I need to think. I need to think.

I need to think and think. Think, think,

think, think, think, think, think, think, think.

Why do you want to mess this all up for us?

Huh? Why do you want to ruin it for us, huh?

Why?

Because I'm scared.

Hannah. Hannah, Hannah, Hannah.

Everything's gonna be okay.

Hannah.

Why are you looking at me that way?

I'm not a monster.

Everything I have done

has been for us.

Do you hear me?

Everything.

Okay, you just wait till we get to the lake tomorrow, okay?

Okay?

I'm hungry.

- Just... Just... - I'm hungry.

Hey, McKinnon.

Listen, we're gonna head across the street for some bad sushi.

Why don't you take a break and come join us.

Nah. I had salmonella for breakfast.

Okay, I'll get you a doggie bag.

Hey, Jernigan, you hear about this guy DiMaggio's father?

Yeah, yeah. You mean about

when he broke into that 17-year-old girl's house?

Yeah. In 1989, he brings in a sawed-off shotgun,

threatened to kill her and her family.

- Like father, like son, huh? - Yeah, but get this.

Six years later, he takes off for the desert,

kills himself.

Crazy.

And that was 18 years ago this week.

So what do you got?

You know, I got a feeling

Uncle Jim never planned on this being a round trip.

No, he knew exactly what he was coming up here to do,

which means we're running out of time.

Well, hello again. Glad to see you found your way.

Lake's not far from here.

Everything okay, honey? You look a little spooked.

She's just a little tired.

I think we overdid it a little yesterday, you know?

Is that it? You're just a little tired?

Yeah.

Really, she's looking kind of rough.

You know, maybe you two ought to think about heading out of here.

There is a ranger's station

about two miles back up the trail here.

You know the area pretty good, huh?

He used to be sheriff.

No kidding? Sheriff, huh?

Retired now.

But we do head up these parts about two, three times a year.

We can take you to the ranger's station if you want.

Oh, that's really not necessary, but thanks.

Might not be a bad idea.

Your daughter's looking pretty bad.

Oh, we're fine, really.

You really don't know your way around these woods very well.

Your daughter's dressed in her pajamas,

and you set your tent up like a lightning rod.

And those boots you're wearing,

not exactly suited for this particular terrain.

Now, tell me, why are you really out here, Dan?

It was my idea.

It's kind of funny, actually.

Last year he picked, and we went to Hollywood.

This year I said I wanted to go camping by the lake.

Yeah, I guess we're not really good at it.

No, not really.

Which way did you say the ranger station was?

Back that way about two miles.

Guess we'll head there in a bit.

Um, I think I'm gonna stay out here a little bit longer.

It's so peaceful, you know?

What do you think, Dad?

I could stay out here a little longer.

All right. Well...

you two have yourself a fine day.

And, uh, I hope you enjoy the rest of your trip.

Take care now.

Looks like we're all in trouble now.

Jernigan. Yeah.

Really? When?

Okay, we're on our way. Hey, McKinnon.

- Yeah. - Four hikers

just reported seeing our girl in Idaho.

Looks like we're going to Idaho.

Mason here.

Anything yet?

It's a pretty big park, Captain.

I'll let you know if I see anything.

All right. Talk soon. Over.

This is Mason. We got a situation here.

How are you?

Hey.

How do I look like I'm doing?

I'm starving. I'm shaking. I can barely walk.

Oh, you're alive,

and you're with someone who cares about you.

Stop!

Is this what caring about someone looks like?

- Do I look happy, content? - Hannah.

No, I really want to know.

Is this the great life you had planned?

Getting lost in the woods looking for some stupid lake,

taking backpacks up and down mountains?

Is this really what you wanted?

- Did you even have a plan? - Don't.

No, 'cause I'm not so sure about that anymore.

I said don't.

Come here.

You're drunk.

Come here.

Get in.

Pan the camera 10 degrees to the left.

Gotcha.

- What are you doing? - Building a fire.

What, now?

We have to act natural.

We have to show them we're just a couple of normal campers.

Go find some firewood.

This is Idaho 2-6-0.

I got a positive on the campsite. Over.

Do you have a visual on the suspect? Over.

Affirmative.

Wait a minute.

She's flagging us down.

Repeat, Anderson is flagging for help.

Copy that, Idaho 260. Rescue team is en route.

What are you doing?

Nothing.

Come get some wood, would you? We gotta build this fire.

This is where the camp was spotted, here.

I want the hostage rescue team up here to surround the area.

Make sure we're in position before anybody makes a move.

There's an aircraft overhead keeping an eye on the scene.

But there's a lot of wilderness here,

and I don't want to lose 'em.

Now, remember, he has a hostage with him,

a 16-year-old girl.

Make sure you know where she is at all times.

- Am I clear? - Yes, sir.

All right, move out.

Jeez!

- Why do you look like that? - Like what?

Like that. Like you're scared.

Because you're acting crazy, Uncle Jim.

- Because I want to go home. - No, no, I told you.

You don't have to be afraid when you're with me, okay?

Okay? Nothing bad can happen to you.

You said you wanted us to be together, right?

Well, that can't happen if we die out here.

We're lost, and we need help.

I read in a book

that if you fire your gun in the air three times,

it means S.O.S.

That way, somebody can find us.

Oh.

Okay.

Like this, huh? Huh?

Is that what you wanted me to do,

so now maybe the cavalry will come?

Oh, I know you're watching me,

and I know what you're thinking!

Hold fast. Wait for my order.

We're gonna send old Uncle Jim to jail.

Oh, yes.

But that's not gonna happen!

I'm gonna walk outta here with my girl.

I'm gonna walk right outta here with my girl

and make a life.

You hear me? I'm gonna walk

right outta here with my girl and make a life!

Uncle Jim, hey, stop it, okay? They will kill you!

This wasn't supposed to happen this way.

I promised you we were going to find the lake

and we were gonna be happy.

We were gonna be happy.

Just put the gun down.

Get down.

Uncle Jim.

Now.

Get ready to move in.

What, you don't wanna play, huh?

Hannah, when did you realize this is it,

this is my rescue?

When they pulled me aside and wrapped a blanket around me

and made sure I was okay.

I'm gonna run these over to the sheriff's station.

- Want any help? - No, I'm good, thanks.

Hey, Brett.

Mr. Anderson, we found Hannah.

Do you remember the hikers?

Yeah.

Well, what if I told you they were here?

Would you like to meet them?

Sure.

Nice to meet you.

We brought a hat for you from Idaho.

Thank you.

- Glad you're safe. - Thanks.

Hannah, thank you so much for trusting us with your story.

I hope that this is the beginning

- of a lot of healing for you. - Thank you.

How do you feel now, kiddo?

Now that I finally told the real story,

it can finally be over.

Thank you.
