Chosen from among all others by the Immortal Elders
Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus
Achilles, Mercury
Billy Batson and his Mentor
travel the highways and byways of the land
on a never-ending mission
to right wrongs, to develop understanding
and to seek justice for all.
In time of dire need
young Billy has been granted
the power by the Immortals
to summon awesome forces
at the utterance of a single word.
Shazam!
[thunderclap]
A word which transforms him in a flash
into the mightiest of mortal beings
Captain Marvel!
[theme music]
[instrumental music]
What are we supposed to find with this gadget?
Pirate's treasure, doubloons, who knows, anything metal.
Just for fun.
[engine revving]
- Right on schedule. - One week to the day.
Let's go dig up that money.
That's what we're here for. Where'd you hide it?
Up the beach where nobody would ever find it.
[dramatic music]
You're looking for something, Billy?
Yup.
[chuckling]
Okay, I give up. What?
- Sharks. - Sharks?
Why, yeah. I understand there's a whole bunch of 'em out there.
Oh.
Mentor, I see one!
Come here. Take a look.
No, no, no. No, thanks.
The less I see of a shark, the better. I..
(Mary) 'Excuse me.'
Uh, just a minute, please.
Oh, no. I-it's alright.
I'm quite able to maneuver this thing myself.
Uh, may I use your binoculars for just a moment, please?
- Yes, certainly. - Thank you.
Ah, there they are.
Kate and Laura.
'Tagalongs as usual.'
'Why they brought that metal detector'
'escapes me completely.'
Oh, I'm sorry to barge in on you like this.
But it's very difficult to keep an eye on so many girls
from this distance.
I'm, um, Sister Mary Catherine.
Oh, uh, my name is Mentor, this is my friend Billy Batson.
- How do you do, Billy? - Hello.
[crow cawing] Oh! And that's Tut.
[Tut cawing]
It's a noisy little bird.
Actually, it belongs to a friend of mine, Andrea Thomas.
[Tut cawing]
She's a teacher.
Tut's only with us for the day.
Well, it's nice meeting you.
Oh, uh-uh, why don't you, uh
use those to keep an eye on your students?
Uh, we'll get them from you later.
Well, thank you very much.
- Goodbye. - Bye.
[Tut cawing]
You know, I knew that bird looked familiar.
Tut came to get Captain Marvel once when Isis needed help.
(Mentor) 'I rember, yeah.'
[cawing]
Whoop!
It's really going crazy!
Wow!
It feels square.
Do away more sand.
[sighing]
I can't move it.
- There! - Oh!
- It's so heavy. - What's inside?
[gasping] Money! Oh!
- "Grand City Bank." - In the newspaper.
I remember, I read it about a week ago.
The Grand City Bank was robbed!
It's stolen money.
What should we do?
Turn it over to the police, I guess.
For sure.
Oh, but there's so much.
I wanna keep it.
The insurance company will pay the bank back and..
Kate!
Oh, I know it's wrong to keep something
that doesn't belong to us.
For sure.
But if we gave it to someone who really needed it..
Sister Mary Catherine still wouldn't approve.
Sister Mary! That's perfect!
We'll give it to Sister Mary secretly.
She could really use this.
You're right.
If she had this, she could have an operation.
Maybe even walk again.
- Do we dare? - Why not?
It's not going to be like stealing.
It's going to a worthy cause!
[dramatic music]
[device beeping]
Oh. The Elders.
[beeping continues]
Oh, Elders, fleet and strong and wise
appear before my seeking eyes.
Billy, some people believe that a dishonest action
can be covered by a good deed.
What do you mean?
Even the best intentions
in the world never work out
'when there is a lie behind them.'
But why are you telling me this?
You will understand soon enough.
You look puzzled.
Well, the Elders told me about lying.
Ordered to turn something wrong into something right.
Uh, that only leads to more lying
'and more trouble.'
Well, it sounds like we're gonna meet someone
with just this problem.
[music continues]
I can't see the rest of the kids!
Maybe they're back at the bus.
Here it is.
Look!
Empty.
- Somebody beat us to it. - But how?
Nobody else knew but me.
They knew where that money was.
They must've been the ones who put it there.
Let's go!
They got a metal detector.
[music continues]
[engine revving]
[panting] Let's hide it under the rocks.
Good.
I knew we shouldn't have taken that money.
We'll be alright. Look!
Quick, get in.
Let 'em go. Let's find their knapsack.
Maybe they hid it back there.
[dramatic music]
[both screaming]
- Oh, no! - Ah! Ah!
[both whimpering]
Alright, girls, now it is exactly 11:10.
We'll have lunch at 12:00 sharp.
- Okay. - Okay.
Go get your projects done. Hurry now.
And, rember, twelve o'clock.
[girls whimpering]
Help!
- Oh, no. - Ah! Ah!
Help! Mr. Mentor! Billy!
Oh, please, help. They, um..
Kate and Laura are down there
and there's a shark swimming around them.
I'll get the lifeguards.
Shazam!
[rumbling]
[crackling]
[water splashes]
[dramatic music]
(Captain Marvel) 'Hold on tight, girls.'
[instrumental music]
[barking]
- Oh, thank you very, very much. - Thank you, Captain Marvel.
Thank you. If it hadn't been for you..
What were you doin' there in the first place?
Well, we were just sitting in the boat
and-and it drifted away.
How do we find our money with Captain Marvel around?
Just wait. He'll go away.
Those girls will come back, too. Wait and see.
[instrumental music]
[seagulls squawking]
I feel terrible lying to Captain Marvel
and Sister Mary like this.
But we couldn't tell them the truth.
Now, we have to tell lies.
Remember, we're doing it for Sister Mary.
Now, we can sneak down there and get back
before she knows we're gone.
But we promised we'd stay here.
But we have to get the money!
[instrumental music]
(Sister Mary) 'Kate?'
'Laura?'
- Kate? - They..
They promised they'd stay here.
- They're gone. - Well, let me check.
Maybe they're down this way.
Kate?
Laura?
Come on, we left the knapsack right over here.
Sorry, girls. Bank's closed.
We don't know what you're talking about.
Let's go.
Hey, wait a minute.
Kate, Laura.
Oh, we all know each other, huh?
- What's this about? - They stole some money.
Never mind that. You're all coming with us.
Now, just a minute.
[Tut cawing]
Let's go, friend.
You stole that money.
You're robbers.
That's what you are! You're robbers.
[cawing]
I said, let's go.
[instrumental music]
Mentor?
Mentor?
Mentor?
Mentor?
Sister, have you seen Mentor?
He went looking for Kate and Laura.
They promised me they'd stay here
but they're not here.
Why would they lie to me?
Even the best intentions in the world
never work out when there is a lie behind them.
I'm gonna start looking at the beach again.
I'm coming with you.
No, now, the girls are my responsibility.
They may be in trouble.
[intense music]
[engine revving]
I think these are Mentor's footprints.
Billy, look!
These are Mentor's, alright.
I'll go to the lifeguard station
and call the police.
Okay. I'll stay here and keep looking.
Good.
[Tut cawing]
Tut!
Robbers! Robbers!
[cawing]
Tut, get Isis.
I need Isis, Tut.
[cawing]
[instrumental music]
[cawing]
[engine revving]
[intense music]
Alright, let's go.
[music continues]
[knocking on door]
Come in.
[knocking on door]
Come in.
[knocking on door]
(Tut) Down here.
[cawing]
Tut, you're supposed to be with Sister Mary.
What are you doing here?
Robbers! Robbers!
[cawing]
There's trouble? Show me, Tut.
[intense music]
[wind gushing]
If I understood Tut, you would like some help.
Yes, I was. Mentor and two girls are missing.
They were here before, but that was hours ago.
You can see into the past. Tell me what happened to them.
Oh, time, turn back and then hold fast
and let me see into the past.
[dramatic music]
(Isis) 'I see the girls and Mentor'
'and two men.'
'They were driving north'
on the Crest Highway.
- May I help you find them? - Yeah, you sure can.
Shazam!
[thunder rumbling]
[crackling]
[wind gushing]
[instrumental music]
[sighs] It's Mentor's. He must've dropped this for us to see.
He's probably inside.
I have an idea.
Keeper of the winds swirling o'er
smoke those robbers out the door.
[dramatic music]
It's gonna be real smoky in there.
Mm-hmm.
[coughing]
Look.
[coughing]
Let's get the girls.
[coughing]
- Girls, are-are you alright? - Are you alright?
We're so sorry we caused so much trouble.
We were only trying to help Sister Mary.
We'll talk about that later.
(Captain Marvel) 'They're taking Mentor.'
No, they won't.
Oh, mountain wind and northwest breeze
lift Mentor safe above the trees.
[wind gushing]
No! I don't believe it.
To the tunnel! It's our only chance.
[intense music]
Don't go in.
But the tunnel may open up
on the other side of the mountain.
They'd get away.
There's a chance.
I-if you could loosen the ground
I could pull it out from under them.
It's worth the try.
Fiery powers in the Earth's core deep
arise and tremble beneath their feet.
[ground rumbling]
[indistinct yelling]
[indistinct yelling]
I'll take that.
Felt like the Earth was moving.
It was.
I couldn't have done it without you, Isis.
My pleasure.
Make sure the girls will want to give that
to the proper authorities.
See you soon.
[instrumental music]
We took the money to give to you
for the hospital.
We thought we were doing the right thing
but it turned out wrong.
And now you understand, hm?
It is never worth covering up
wrong deeds with lies
even if you're doing it for something you feel is right.
- We've learned a big lesson. - The hard way.
Well, all's well that ends well.
All's well that ends well.
All's well that ends well. Wow!
[all laughing]
In today's story, Laura and Kate
learned that doing something wrong even when you think
it's for a good reason doesn't make it right.
The wrong deed is usually only the beginning.
You find yourself trying to cover it up
and then the wrong deed is led to lies
and then they get bigger and bigger.
Most of the time we can pretty well tell right from wrong
so don't try to fool yourself.
Stick to the right way, it's the best way.
See you next week.
[instrumental music]
