(male narrator) Chosen from among all others by the Immortal Elders
Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, Mercury
Billy Batson and his mentor travel the highways and byways
of the land on a never-ending mission
to right wrongs, to develop understanding
and to seek justice for all.
In time of dire need, young Billy has been granted
the power by the Immortals to summon awesome forces
at the utterance of a single word..
Shazam!
[thunder crashing]
[dramatic music]
A word which transforms him in a flash
into the mightiest of mortal beings
Captain Marvel!
[theme music]
[instrumental music]
[indistinct chatter]
- Hey, guys, here's Vinnie. - Alright.
- Hey! - Hey, Vinnie.
- Ooh! - Aah!
- Alright! - Billy!
Oh! Okay, okay, okay.
- Alright, man. - Whoa!
[indistinct chatter]
Geez.
Hey. Hey, it's good to be back in circulation.
- Yeah. - Alright, man.
Hey, hey, Vinnie, what was it like in jail?
I couldn't tell you, man. I wasn't in there
long enough to find out.
[laughing]
Alright, alright. Lighten up, huh?
Listen, we, uh, we got some business
to settle with a fink named Jackie.
- Hey, right. - Alright.
- 'Alright.' - 'Alright.'
- Okay. - Right on.
Have a nice day.
- Hello, Jackie, how's business? - Mr. Mentor, Billy.
What are you doing back in these parts?
Oh, you know us, traveling vagabonds
who drift with the changing winds.
[chuckles]
I suppose you read about your pal Vinnie
being out on bail.
Yeah, I heard. But don't worry about me.
I'm gonna stay as far away from that troublemaker as possible.
Hey, let me check this tire for ya.
[car honking]
[tires screeching]
[honking]
[indistinct shouting]
It was Vinnie.
Well, he didn't waste any time comin' after you, did he?
No, he was just sending me a little message.
Vinnie and his friends call themselves
the Vultures, don't they?
I'd say that the meaning of Vinnie's message
was loud and clear.
Look, I'm really cool. Don't worry about me.
Vinnie can send all the messages he wants to.
'I don't need his kind of hassles.'
[beeping]
(Mentor) 'Uh-oh. It's the Elders.'
Oh, Elders, fleet and strong and wise
appear before my seeking eyes.
'Sorry, I'm late, Solomon.'
A lot of water has passed under the bridge this morning.
Billy, even as water, which is vital to life
can become a destructive force
'so to the human energies'
can function as forces for good or evil.
And the difference lies in the channeling of those energies.
You yourself will be made to learn that lesson by trial.
When the moment comes, rember
one must not seek to resolve differences
through physical combat.
You know, Mentor, I-I can't help but feel
that we're talking about Jackie.
Alright.
(Mentor) 'Jackie, will you, please, listen?'
Look, I told you, I'm not gonna make Vinnie's scene.
But that doesn't prevent Vinnie from bringing his scene to you.
What am I supposed to do? Move to the North Pole?
No, Jackie. We're just saying that
Vinnie's not gonna stop hassling you.
He's gonna make it tough for you not to fight.
Look, I told you, we're cool. Will you believe me?
But if he keeps his sister from seeing me much longer..
Tell you what, Jackie
we'll do what we can to help you on that score, hm?
[dramatic music]
- Any sign of Mellie? - No.
I don't think this is any way to find her.
Mentor, turn the corner and stop.
Okay.
[dramatic music]
(male 1) Inside.
This court is now in session.
Everybody in attention for the judge
'and leader of the Vultures, Vinnie.'
Oh, you gotta be kidding.
Bring the victim.. Oh.
Excuse me, I..
The accused forward.
Well, dig this, he wants to split.
[laughing]
Sit down, smart guy.
Okay, I'll play your silly game.
Just so you don't get any more ideas about splittin'
tie him up.
Hey, man, a joke's a joke, you know.
Read the charges.
You're hereby charged with
stickin' your nose in where it don't belong.
Wrong. I was just trying to stop
some serious trouble, that's all.
Hey, dig this. He only wants to help.
[laughing]
Well, this court don't want any more interruptions.
You heard the evidence. What's the verdict?
[scoffs]
This here court's gonna adjourn to the judge's chamber
to consider what we're gonna do next.
Wait a minute. What about him?
'He starts makin' noise, we're all in trouble.'
(Vinnie) 'Man.'
'He won't make any noise.'
[all laughing]
Come on, let's go.
[dramatic music]
[door opens]
Billy!
- Oh, Mellie, it's you. - Where's Billy?
Well, he's out looking for you.
Oh, I've gotta find him. I hope it's not too late.
Billy!
[sighs]
[dramatic music]
[laughter]
Hey, forget it. They're comin' back.
- I can't undo this. - Look, get out of here.
But I can't just leave you here.
Get out of here.
Shazam!
[thunder crashing]
[dramatic music]
[indistinct chatter]
He split.
Man, there's somethin' weird goin' on around here.
- What is it? - Yeah.
Come on.
[dramatic music]
I shouldn't have left Billy.
I have a feeling he'll show up safe and sound.
Shazam!
[thunder crashing]
[dramatic music]
Billy!
- How did you know? - Oh, just a lucky guess.
Mellie, you've gotta talk to Jackie.
He's really getting uptight and I can't say I blame him.
- Well, then let's go. - You bet.
Jackie, I'm so happy.
Maybe that will cool things down for a while, huh?
I don't think so.
Billy, even as water, which is vital to life
can become a destructive force
so to the human energies
can function as forces for good or evil.
You yourself will be made to learn that lesson by trial.
Well, I did learn a lesson from the trial.
'You can't reason with people like Vinnie.'
- Well, don't you agree? - 'Yeah, right.'
No, Billy, I'm through with fights and reform school.
But, no, that's not what I meant.
(male 1) 'Hey, chickens.'
We'll be waiting for you at the refinery. Dig?
- Let's go. - Let's go.
Hey, hey, wait a minute, you guys. Wait!
You're makin' a big mistake.
[sighing] Thanks a lot, pal.
Billy, you've gotta do something.
I love Jackie, but Vinnie's my brother
and I don't wanna see either one hurt.
(Mentor) Billy..
...you don't resolve differences with someone
through physical confrontation.
[sighs] Well, we've gotta stop them.
'What do you think, Mentor?'
(Mentor) 'I think there's trouble brewing'
and the police should be notified.
I hope we're not too late.
[dramatic music]
Here they come!
Alright, Vinnie, we see 'em.
[Vinnie whistles]
Vinnie, I'm not lookin' for trouble.
Hey, what's the matter, chicken? You scared?
No, but I don't see what your guys
fighting my guys will prove.
Hey, what do you say, chicken?
You and me first.
I'm not lookin' for trouble, Vinnie.
- Look, I wanna talk to you. - What?
I can't hear you, chicken.
You guys stay here.
[dramatic music]
You know, the police are right, Mentor.
We can't expect them to arrest a bunch of kids
because of what they might do.
Yes, that's right.
And they did say they'd keep their eyes open.
- Well, we can do that too. - Alright, let's.
[dramatic music]
Come on, Vinnie, this is stupid.
Okay, guys, he's mine.
Oh, I've got a feeling we're gonna be too late, Mentor.
Okay, Billy. Do what you've got to do.
Shazam!
[thunder crashing]
[dramatic music]
Mobile operator, get me the highway patrol.
Do it, Vinnie. Get him, Vinnie.
[all cheering]
[indistinct shouting]
[dramatic music]
[indistinct shouting]
Come on. Come on. Come on.
[indistinct shouting]
[intense music]
[siren wailing]
[indistinct chatter on police radio]
[intense music]
Wow, Captain Marvel. Never thought I'd be glad to see you.
You may not believe this, but I'm glad I saw you...in time.
[instrumental music]
Fellows, looks like this took some of the fight out of you.
I hope for good.
'But the next time, I may not be around.'
There isn't gonna be any next time for me.
Yeah, well, don't count on it, punk.
Oh, Vinnie, you'll never change, will you?
'You're always itching for trouble.'
(male 1) Yeah, but you can count me out, Vinnie.
I'm not making trouble for anybody.
Well, Vinnie, looks like you're on your own from now on.
The rest is up to you.
So long.
That Captain Marvel is an alright too.
- Yeah. - Yeah.
You're pretty alright yourself, Jackie.
I'm really proud of you.
Hey, here comes Billy.
Well, where were you?
I mean, you started all this, then you were gone.
Sorry, Jackie. I really blew it.
But I did learn one lesson.
You can't settle things by fighting.
Right on.
(male 1) Yeah, but, you know, you can get
little restless being peaceful all the time?
Well, you could use some of that energy to do positive things.
Oh, yeah, you mean, like, paintin' fixin' up
some of the old buildings, you know, stuff like that.
Yes, exactly.
Yeah, yeah. I think I can do that.
I think that's a wise decision.
You've just seen what working against each other can lead to.
Don't you think it's time we started working together?
Well, what do you say? Are we together, fellows?
- Yeah. - Yeah.
Well, I'm glad this part of our vacation is over.
I'm pooped.
- I don't think it's over yet. - What?
Come on, we're gonna play basketball.
Yeah, all together now. Just like Mr. Mentor said.
Did I say that?
[laughs]
Oh!
[laughter]
Hi. Today we learned what some people never learn
that in the end fighting doesn't prove anything.
It makes more sense to work together
and to iron out differences
in a constructive rather than a destructive way.
See you next week.
