Original subtitles

(male narrator) Chosen from among all others by the Immortal Elders

Solomon, Hercules, Atlas

Zeus, Achilles, Mercury

Billy Batson and his Mentor

travel the highways and byways of the land

on a never-ending mission to right wrongs

to develop understanding and to seek justice for all.

In time of dire need, young Billy has been granted

the power by the immortals

to summon awesome forces

at the utterance of a single word..

Shazam!

[thunderclap]

[instrumental music]

[electricity crackling]

A word which transforms him in a flash

into the mightiest of mortal beings

Captain Marvel!

[music continues]

[instrumental music]

Boy, I can't get over the size of these rock formations.

Fantastic.

'I always thought the desert was a big sand box.'

Oh, the desert is much more than a sand box, Billy.

It's a living thing full of plant and animal life.

This particular desert is rich in Indian history.

Whoa. That's the kind of history I'd like to see at closer range.

[beeping]

Uh, history after wisdom, Billy.

[instrumental music]

Oh, Elders fleet and strong and wise

appear before my seeking eyes.

The desert sand of which you speak

carries a message for all of us

upon its ancient face, Billy.

A message, Solomon?

The eternal face to the desert

marks man's haste.

A cactus grows slowly, but once grown

it stands tall for many years.

Yeah, I never thought of the desert like that before, Zeus.

The desert has much to teach us, Billy.

That's why it must be preserved

for future generations to see

and to know.

(Billy) 'I wonder why the Elders are so concerned'

about the desert changing?

It's been here thousands of years and it hasn't changed yet.

Perhaps, they're worried that it's going to be changed, Billy.

By men.

[engine revving]

[instrumental music]

[panting] How much further, Johnny?

Just a little ways, grandfather.

[instrumental music]

[indistinct shouting]

[engine revving]

[indistinct yelling]

See for yourself, grandad.

[instrumental music]

What about the other places?

They're hitting all of them.

We'll be cleaned out before you know it.

'They don't care about our heritage.'

Then we must tell the police.

This is something we have to take care of, grandfather.

Johnny! Johnny!

[instrumental music]

[engine revving]

Wait. Wait. Wait.

- What's the trouble? - It's my grandson.

He's up on the ledge and I need help to pull him off.

- Do you have any rope? - Sure.

This way. This way.

[indistinct yelling]

[instrumental music]

He's right over here. Right down there.

Right.

There he is.

Yeah. Alright now.

We'll have you out of there in a minute.

Johnny, you loop this rope around you

'around your body'

'and we'll pull you out.'

Under the arms. Under the arms!

Here we go.

[instrumental music]

[groans]

Easy does it.

'Now watch yourself.'

'Don't scrape yourself on those rocks'

'Take it easy.'

That's a boy. Here he comes.

[instrumental music]

'Alright, John. Careful.'

It's fine, Johnny. You're gonna be alright.

That he is.

- Almost got you. - That's it.

Keep your feet away from it. There you go.

We are both fortunate you good people came along.

- Aren't we, Johnny? - Yeah.

I'm glad we could be of help.

Hey, Johnny, how did you manage to wind up on that ledge?

Hiking or something?

Or something.

Come on, grandad.

Johnny, you're not only shamming yourself

but you shame me too.

I'm sorry, but I'm still upset about

what's going on out there.

What do you mean?

There are youngsters in a desert vehicle

who are ruin' the beauty of the land.

Yes, but there's something else, isn't there?

Yeah, there's something else.

Those guys out there are digging up the relics

and taking them.

The desert has much to teach us, Billy.

That's why it must be preserved

for future generations to see and to know.

Hey, Johnny, maybe it's none of my business

but don't you think you ought to notify the authorities

rather than tryin' to tackle that yourself?

The authorities? You sound just like my grandad.

Billy is right, Johnny.

We should let the law handle this.

Grandfather, you of all people should know better than this.

This was once all Indian land.

Until the law came and took it away.

Now what few relics we have left

what few valuables

they're digging up and carting off.

Well, I'm gonna do something about it

even if you aren't.

You mind if I go with you?

Come on.

Look at this.

Oh, this oughta bring a nice price on the market.

What's wrong, man?

The collectors will freak over this Indian junk.

We got our self a real find here.

I don't know, man.

I just don't feel right about digging this stuff up. I mean..

Well, what if this is like some kind of

ancient burial place or something?

Better for us.

That kind of stuff brings heavy bread.

Put that stuff back and get out of here.

What'd you say?

He said, put those things back.

They don't belong to you.

Yeah? Then who does it belong to, wise guy?

It belongs to my people.

I'm Indian and those are Indian artefacts.

- You see, man. I told you. - Hey, shut up.

Look, this stuff has been sittin' here for years.

'It's like buried treasure.'

'Finders keepers.'

So bug off, man.

Okay, we'll bug off

right to the police.

Come on, Artie.

Well, what are we gonna do now, Jed?

What do the wagons do when the Indians attack?

They drive in circles.

[engine revving]

[indistinct shouting]

Adam, it looks like your hunch was right.

What's the matter, fellas? Scared?

Hey, Jed, we got company.

What do you know?

The cavalry's coming to the rescue.

'See ya later, fellas.'

[engine revving]

Did you see what they did, grandfather?

I know, Johnny. I know.

This is why it's more important now to tell the police

about those boys.

You forget one thing, grandfather.

'They're all on the same side.'

Billy, look, thanks.

Thanks for trying.

But I'd like to try this my own way.

[dramatic music]

[instrumental music]

Oh, my goodness.

Beautiful morning.

[laughing] Look at all these animals.

Good morning.

It's like Noah's Ark.

Yeah. It's a beautiful morning.

Best part of the day, huh?

I wonder where everybody is.

Adam and Johnny are usually up at the crack of dawn.

Good morning, Adam.

I have some hot coffee for you.

Bingo!

Man, this is almost too easy.

Yeah. That's just what bothers me.

I feel like a sitting duck out here..

Maybe they went fishing.

In the desert?

Oh, yeah.

However, they may have gone hunting.

[instrumental music]

[music continues]

[music continues]

Okay, we've got a good haul. Let's get out of here.

(male #1) 'Suits me fine.'

[music continues]

[music continues]

[engine revving]

[music continues]

Johnny's in trouble.

Those boys drove over

'him hiding in back of their jeep.'

Which way did they go?

Towards the airport.

Of course, that'll be the perfect way for them

to get rid of the artefacts they dig up.

Airlift them out. Hop in, Adam.

[instrumental music]

Mobile operator, get me the highway patrol.

[engine revving]

[siren blaring]

Dump the stuff. We can come back for it when things cooldown.

I said, dump it.

[instrumental music]

[tires screeching]

[engine revving]

[music continues]

Get out!

Mentor, look.

[grunting]

They're taking Johnny.

[instrumental music]

Shazam!

[thunderclap]

Billy. He's Captain Marvel.

Yes.

And now that you know we only ask

that you keep our secret.

You have my word, Mentor.

[instrumental music]

Let me out. Stop.

'Let me out. Stop.'

Jed, do something. We're gonna crash.

[plane engine revving]

Let me out.

[indistinct talking]

...and I can't get any lift.

Let go. Let go!

Johnny, kill the engine.

[siren blaring]

Captain Marvel. I wondered what stopped the plane.

Thank you for your help too, Johnny.

Oh, what's this all about?

It's about the Indian treasure

you've got in your plane.

What?

Hey, man, I think

you've got the wrong guys.

Captain Marvel, it isn't there.

What happened?

They threw the stuff out along the road.

Haven't any idea where.

That kid doesn't know what he's talking about.

Yeah, we don't have whatever it is you're looking for.

So if you don't mind we're gonna go.

[siren blaring]

Hold it.

Adam here has something I think

you'll find very interesting, Captain Marvel.

Well, looks like you fellas have been doing some digging, huh?

Nice likenesses. Aren't they, Johnny?

Couldn't be better.

Officer.

I think we better hold these for evidence.

Grandfather, where did you get those pictures?

I went out this morning to do some scouting on my own.

And I figured three eyes would be better than two.

[laughing]

Grandfather, I really owe you an apology.

There. The desert is starting to look normal again.

Yes. And hopefully safe from people like Jed and Artie.

Oh, careful, Billy.

Is it an artefact?

Could be. 100 years from now.

[laughing]

Hi, today you saw what happens when people show disrespect

to the land, history and artefacts of other people.

As the Elders said, "The desert and traditions

"of other people have much to teach us

"and must be preserved for future generations

to see and to know."

See you next week.
