So we're a couple months in. We've been sluicing pretty good.

Tony Beats is on a roll.

Just two months into the season, he's already pocketed $8 million

in gold.

I mean, with the way gold prices are, you like to sluice as much as possible.

Because, boy, what an opportunity it is.

While Tony rides his crew at the Indian River, he's left son Mike in charge

of his other claim on Paradise Hill.

Last week, Mike finally got a plant running.

sluicing old -timer tailings through wash plant Harold.

Harold's up and going.

It's nice to finally be sluiced, and now I'm actually making a bit of money

instead of just spending it.

My dad would be glad I'm making a bit of money.

Mike's also been charged with stripping the super pit to feed the trommel, but

it's been slow going after Tony pilfered his crew.

I would love to do more, but...

I don't have the people, and that's the problem.

My dad takes, he don't give nothing back.

It ends up being a one -way street.

With his depleted crew now at the super pit, Mike needs to hire new personnel to

keep Harold running.

Despite my dad taking, I'm going to get this done.

I got these two new girls. I'm going to see how they do. One says she has a bit

of experience with farm equipment, and the other one, I don't know.

He has experience, but I can always train him.

Whereabouts are you from?

New Brunswick, but I moved to Alberta like four years ago.

So where are you originally from?

I'm originally from British Columbia.

I did a bit of construction, so like road pipe and started road work.

How are you feeling about today?

We have to run a plant by ourselves. It's our first time running equipment.

Honestly, I'm pretty nervous. I haven't really stepped in a hole before.

Is it your first time running equipment?

No, I grew up farming, so I ran loader before, but nothing like what we're

to be running it up here.

I ordered breakfast this morning. I look at it like this. It's the least

appetizing thing I've seen in my life. I asked for scrambled eggs with cheese,

so I got an omelet with cheese on top.

Pull it out slightly and open it to relieve the pressure in the hose.

Next time, you lift it. You make sure the nozzle's in the tank. You relieve

pressure. That's how we don't get fuel everywhere.

Next, Mike sends Kendra.

to check the oil level in the water pump.

I think I'll be fine. Like, I did pipe fitting and water transfer back in

Alberta, so I know a little bit about pumps.

The engine oil in the pump was a little low, so I'm going to put some more oil

in it.

I would like to have them a bit more time to get trained up because they're

way too nervous for my liking.

I'm still debating whether I'm actually going to let them loose today.

Things right now are going really good. You know, we're like at a pretty decent

point in the season and starting to pick up momentum.

Back at his Dominion claim, Parker is hitting his stride.

The next thing is just like how much can we handle with how spread thin we are.

It's going to get real bad with three plants running this early in the season.

There's just a lot going on, so.

If we can keep the wheels on the bus, you know, we're in a very good place.

But it's going to take a lot of effort and work on everybody's part in order to

make that happen.

With Mitch and Brennan pulling in gold from sulfur.

And Tyson with the extra pressure.

Tyson is doing a really good job, but it's a lot for one guy to take on. He's

got a lot on his plate, so hopefully he can handle it.

So this is the last bit of hay here for the first setup of Bob in the bridge bed

of the season.

Then she'll be moving Bob to its new home.

But there's a lot of work to be done to get the wash plant actually move like in

preparation.

We have our super stacker pad we've got to get in place. We have our feeder pad.

That's a lot of work to happen by the end of the week here.

Probably have to pull some late nights to get this happening here.

While Tyson gets ready to move wash plant Bob to its second location in the

bridge gut, in the Golden Mile, the cleanup crew is pulling Flucifer's mat.

I'm just checking to see how much gold we have in the run, and I'll make sure

that there is no gold at the bottom.

Actually, there's tons of gold down here.

It's not good.

Gold at the bottom of the sluice run could be a sign that some gold is being

washed away into the fine tailings.

I think trying to slow the material down might help.

And so I think putting in kickbacks that kick the material back upstream, right?

Yeah. And it just gives it a chance to kind of slow down and see if that makes

Wash plant slucifer runs 250 yards of pay dirt an hour, but its gold -rich

slurry is pouring into the sluice runs too fast, causing some gold to flow past

the ripples and out of the box into the fine tailor.

Parker's plan is to redesign the distribution chutes that sit behind a

curtain at the top of the sluices with eighth kickbacks.

If they work, it should take some of the impact energy out of the gold -rich

slurry as it falls and is kicked back, slowing the flow down, allowing all the

gold time to settle and be caught in the sluice boxes.

We got all day to do it, but it's two days worth of work.

We're going to cut the back wall out of the distribution here, and then this

plate will go up inside on an angle.

That'll effectively, when the slurry comes down, it'll come towards the back

this loose box.

and just put one tack on it? Yeah.

Before Kevin can realign the angle of the hopper feeder's skid plate, he needs

to lift it out, remove the rubber mat, and clean out the dirt that pushed

the plate up.

And like I'm sure I can get somebody in here to shovel, but then I'll be

standing watching the shovel, and a few things put me up the wall of standing

around.

So by taking out a lot of the stuff underneath the skid plate that's causing

everything to rise up, I'm hoping by making it more angled, all the material

that falls in here is just going to go straight into the plant.

Kevin plans to replace the rubber mat with a more robust steel plate.
